4 Frozen Stars
Seven years ago, someone was killing women; attractive young women. But before killing them, the perp tortured them and then put them alive into a freezer to froze their bodies. They named the perp "Iceman". Only one of the perps’s victims survived. Now after these years, some similar killings are happening. And the goal is finishing what the "Iceman" couldn’t finish! But they don’t know who is this killer. Because the Iceman supposed to be dead (without any proof). So the perp can be the original one, a copycat or maybe it’s the Icemen! Who knows!
Like her other works I loved it and enjoyed it! She is one of my fave writers! I liked everything about this story. The characters were fantastic. Dawn was a victim but she believed the perp didn’t break her. She was smart, badass and strong. she wasn’t like a victim at all. Tucker was so confident, so protective. The writing style was great. It was well-paced and well-written. It just was a little predictable for me.
The story is told in multiple POV, 3rd person. It’s the second installment in "Killer Instinct" but it can be read as a stand-alone. All in all, it was an enjoyable read; hope you like it as well!

I can’t remember every detail I read it a few months ago.
But H and h are head over heels in love
H twin brother? Or just his brother is a serial killer and takes the h tortures and plans to kill her.
H saves her but she has trauma. H doesn’t stick around to long after when h hasn’t gotten over the ordeal fast enough and it’s effecting their sex life.
H takes off - 10 yrs? more or less
He stalks her and keeps an eye on her. Visits her town and watches her
BUT HE CONTINUES TO HAVE SEX W OW THE WHOLE TIME. He is staling her and she is the ONE. He loves her. But he is fucking OW!?
And like what about her trauma? What about sticking around while she gets therapy? These things take time and you leave? Oh yeah but she is the love of your life and you can’t let her go….. fucking douche
She does try to move on…. Barley. She does date. But she is the victim here. I don’t blame her when douche bag left.

I feel like a broken record when I say that I love this author's books and one thing I can count on her is to give me a strong bada** heroine and an awesome hero too.
A heroine who can save her own a** and save the hero's too if needed.
As long this author keeps writing I'll keep buying and reading her books, She's an auto buy for me and it doesn't matter what she writes. She can even write a cook book and you can be sure I'll read it happy.

Cynthia Eden knows how to write second chance romances I adore.

Dawn Alexander has loved Tucker Frost since she was thirteen and he sixteen and they were close friends for years before they became lovers when she was 21. The brother no one knew was the killer known as the Iceman, who liked to use his knife on pretty young women before he froze them to death. The very brother who looked just like Tucker. But Dawn survived because Tucker killed him. Now it is seven years later and it seems that the Iceman has a copycat or he never really died. And his new playground is the very place Dawn has been trying to rebuild her life as a P.I.
The fact that she was the one person who made him wild, who pushed him over the edge...that just meant that he would do anything for her. He wouldn’t rest until she was safe.
There were no limits for him, not when it came to Dawn.
And Tucker who’s now part of the experimental profiling team in the FBI is determined to protect the woman he was forced to walk away from seven years ago. The woman he never stopped loving.
She hadn’t stopped loving him. She’d lost her way for a while—they both had—but what she felt for him had never died.
Dawn loved Tucker seven years ago but what happened broke her and she wasn’t strong enough to differentiate between the man she loved and the monster who looked just like him. But she’s not the same person she was then, she’s become stronger, more confident. But seeing Tucker again still twists her up inside, the feelings she had are still back then, just as confusing. I felt so bad for Dawn and what happened to her. Her reaction to Tucker after what happened was perfectly understandable and I’m so glad they got a second chance and that this time she was strong enough to see that difference, to see that Tucker would never hurt her. I also understood how torn up she was when he left back then after their disastrous encounter, without giving her a chance to heal, to come to terms with what happened.
I can’t walk away from you again.
I loved Tucker. The depth of his feelings for Dawn back then and since then was so palpable, how strong his need was to protect her, to never cause her pain. He had such a horrible childhood and it was so sad seeing how devastated he was to realise the big brother who always protected him, was a monster who tried to kill the very woman he loved. I loved that his past made him determined to make a difference, to stop other monsters.
She was the one dream he’d had all his life.
The one thing he wanted most.
The one fucking thing his brother had tried to take from him. And, now, finally, she was back in his arms.
This is my kind of second chance romance. Awful circumstances forced them apart but neither had ever gotten over the other. Both might have had the occasional lover but it never meant anything. Both had dreamed of another chance in another lifetime and fate had provided. Their romance was so full of love and hurt and it was wonderful.
Once again this author has written another thrilling and suspenseful addition to this series. Although I had my suspicions about who the killer was I still was surprised at the twist near the end.
Cynthia Eden is one of my favorite authors and her romantic suspense novels are always the perfect blend of dark suspense and terrific romance. This series has been amazing so far and I can’t wait for the next book. Highly recommended to all RS fans.

Ex-SEAL Tucker Frost and PI Dawn Alexander have a past shrouded in blood, death and passion, now 10 years since the last time they saw one another they find themselves face to face looking for answers, as it seems a ghost from their past is back, killing, and has them both in his sights.
Somehow this one book I completely missed by Cynthia Eden, it made for a nice little romantic suspense read that will be staying on my kindle, although it’s not my favourite by the author. The start of the book started strong and had me really engaged but as the book progressed, the tension and energy I was expecting to emerge like a tightly wound string didn’t manifest. Nevertheless, I remained overall engaged in the story and main characters.
Tortured heroes and second chance romances can be components that create a fabulous read, but I have to say that in this book I didn’t find myself as gripped by the scenes of emotion and vulnerability as I should have been.
There are elements that Eden quite prolifically uses in her books in this series and series like it, thus to fully enjoy the books, and this book in particular, it would be a good idea to space out your reading of the series.

4.5 stars - Romantic Suspense
Cynthia Eden writes tortured heroes and heroines, sadistic killers, and creeptastic, dark suspense really well. Even though I had a strong feeling about who the killer was for most of the book, it was still a twisted, gripping read that kept me on edge. I'm looking forward to more books in this dark, thrilling series!

Apesar de ser narrado em 3ª pessoa, curti muito a narrativa, assim como gostei no primeiro livro!

Before the Dawn combines two of my favorite kind of stories: second chance romance and romantic suspense. I know when I pick up a Cynthia Eden novel I’m guaranteed a sizzling romance and thrilling ride! Even though I figured out the killer’s identity pretty early on it was still an exciting read; fast-paced, and full of action. This killer gets personal mighty quick, and it forces Tucker and Dawn to stick close, and overcome the past. I love it when two people who should’ve been together get a second chance to make it right and get their HEA. There are forces that try and separate and plant doubt between them, but I was pleased with this couple’s united front. This romance doesn’t disappoint!
Cynthia Eden sets the stage for the next book in the series, Into the Night. I know that Macey was a victim/survivor of a serial killer, but I’m not sure Bowen’s past. I’m looking forward to finding out!

Three and a half
This started with such an incredible idea that I immediately felt thrown into this story. It's very hard hitting and so twisted that there's a moment or two when as a reader I really questioned who really is the bad guy! Then the story moves forward in time and we catch up with the Icemans one and only surviving victim Dawn as the man she once loved Tucker ( aka the Iceman's brother! ) turns to her as it appears there's a copycat killer or is there?
So ten years later and still this couple pine for each other but will they get a second chance? The author really aims to confuse her readers here as there's no proof that the Iceman isn't still around and everything points to him coming back from the dead and finally catching up with Dawn. Yet the reader knows that Tucker carries a very dark secret and after all didn't his brother claim they worked together? Yet Dawn wants to believe in Tucker no matter what her eyes tell her.
We first met Tucker in the previous book After the Dark when this ex Seal played such a pivotal role in securing a happy resolution. I think that's possibly what I missed here. I'd imagined Tucker as an action hero type and yet here I just didn't see it. Plus the odd romance really didn't quite convince me. Sorry but Dawn whilst trying so hard not to be a victim just didn't quite feel real to this reader.
What does work is the killer and the way he goes about terrorising Dawn. Yes she's a pawn in his plan that involves those around her but as the author throws around red herrings it's quite possible the reader has already guessed who but not why!
Tortured heroes and second chance romances are very appealing but unfortunately this time as I'd built Tucker up so much in my imagination ( think McGarrett in Hawaii Five O ) I'd expected a lot more gun toting action packed scenes. Still as a suspense driven story it really works although it's the heart wrenching truths that Tucker reveals, the vulnerabilities of this couple as they push ever forward that I will remember

Before the Dawn, the second book in Cynthia Eden’s Killer Instinct series delivered on so many levels. A Second chance romance, suspense, mystery, a strong heroine and a hero who would do anything to protect the woman he loves.
The story started out on an interesting note. Tucker and Dawn, the main characters, shared a friendship which had slowly developed into so much more. However, their love would face the most diabolical test when Tucker’s brother chose Dawn as his next victim. Forced to end his brother’s life to save the woman he loved placed Tucker in a difficult situation. A situation further worsened by Dawn's inability to face Tucker because he looked like his brother, which led to the end of their relationship. Fast forward seven (7) years later: a killer using the same MO as Tucker’s brother has struck. The question on everyone’s mind was, has the Iceman returned or is this the work of a copycat.
Dawn has grown since that fateful day seven (7) years ago. She now works as a Private Investigator. I admired her refusal to be a victim again, and also her strength and determination. Tucker being a member of the FBI’s serial killer task force and because of the nature of the murders and his connection to a serial killer he was chosen to head up the investigation.
He had a horrible childhood, and seeing how his brother turned out had him doubting himself several times. He, however rose above the stigma of his childhood. I found his refusal to open to Dawn about his past disappointing.
I enjoyed the interaction between Tucker and Dawn. Their reunion may not have been under the best of circumstances, but their love for each other still burned bright as ever. Despite this, they still struggled with the issues which drove them apart all those years ago. Being hunted by a killer didn’t work in their favour either. Despite Dawn being capable of protecting herself, Tucker did not want to leave her unprotected. I loved how she stood her ground and let him know in no uncertain terms that she did not need protection.
I thought I had the identity of the killer figured out, but then the Eden put a wrench in my theory, which threw me off my game for a moment. The killer’s motive proved to be the biggest shock of the story. That I never would have guessed. The journey into his mind proved to be an intense and sometimes scary experience.

Cynthia Eden can write romantic suspense with the best of them. I loved reading this book and want to dive right into more by her.
The Good: The opening sequence was written so well. It captured my attention exactly as it was meant to do and made me want to keep reading. The momentum continued throughout the book as well. Nothing sucks the life out of a Rom/Susp that can't keep up with it's own prologue. The characters are well thought out and I liked that we continued to learn and understand them throughout the book. The secondary characters are intriguing, especially Macey and Bowen who are part of the special task force Tucker is on. I also enjoyed the investigation aspect of the book. From the precinct, to the morgue, to the hospital, we were with the team every step of the way. The mystery suspense aspect in the story was well balanced with the romance as well. There weren't a lot of annoying misunderstandings between Tucker and Dawn and the characters didn't constantly push each other away (even though at one point it felt like it was almost going that way.)
The Bad: I went into this book with no knowledge of the series, the book order, or even what this book was about. With that in mind I need to say that even though this book was easily read without any other background of the characters or the special FBI unit Tucker is part of I am now very aware of who the perpetrator was in the first book, After the Dark. I'm not sure if this was common knowledge, meaning if the identity was known from almost the beginning of that book, but I'm a bit disappointed in knowing the killer's name and his ties to the other characters. So with that said, I'd recommend reading this series in order. I would prefer to read books as I pick them up and since you really shouldn't in this case I find it a negative. I also thought the killer's identity was a bit of a stretch and his reasoning a bit sketchy but nothing that would prevent me from recommending this book to lovers of these sub-genre.
In a Nutshell: A very good book to what appears to be a good series. I'm looking forward to reading the others and if I didn't already have several books lined up I would even consider reading them all back to back. I never binge read so that says something about this book.
The Good: The opening sequence was written so well. It captured my attention exactly as it was meant to do and made me want to keep reading. The momentum continued throughout the book as well. Nothing sucks the life out of a Rom/Susp that can't keep up with it's own prologue. The characters are well thought out and I liked that we continued to learn and understand them throughout the book. The secondary characters are intriguing, especially Macey and Bowen who are part of the special task force Tucker is on. I also enjoyed the investigation aspect of the book. From the precinct, to the morgue, to the hospital, we were with the team every step of the way. The mystery suspense aspect in the story was well balanced with the romance as well. Ms. Eden has a method to her writing and darn, it works every time! She combines thrilling suspense with intense emotions and sizzling chemistry into stories that a reader cannot put down or walk away from after the last word. I should know because I just spent this past weekend reading every single book in this series, five in total. BEFORE THE DAWN is dark and twisted but also very engrossing and you can't help but become invested in the characters and the possibility of a second chance at love for them, something to make up for all the pain and loss.
Tucker Frost is a decorated ex-SEAL and an FBI agent selected for a new profiling division, but it's his past and his connection to an infamous serial killer that makes him a perfect fit for the experimental unit. With a killer on the loose with striking similarities to a supposedly dead monster, Tucker has to face the possibility that he let a killer walk and that the only woman he's ever loved may be in danger again, but he is determined to not fail her this time.
Dawn Alexander is the only survivor of the infamous Iceman but her survival cost her the only man she loved. It's been seven years since that horrific time and she's more confident and stronger. But the past has come back to haunt her with the investigation of a killer whose methods match those of her attacker and he may be trying to finish what he started seven years ago. Dawn knows that she needs the FBI, but will seeing Tucker again remind her of her attacker, whose face he shares? Or will the love they once shared overcome the bad memories?
Tucker was a bit (and by a bit I mean a lot) obsessed with Dawn, his feelings for her were overwhelming and for the first time, something about this author's writing that has been at the back of my mind for some time now came into full view: no matter how good we think we are, anyone can become a killer in the 'right' circumstances. He killed for her before and was willing to do it again, if he needed to. Dawn used her past to make herself stronger and she was not willing to giving this new terror an inch or let it rob her of another chance at happiness.
Tucker and Dawn's past will definitely have you rooting for them to find happiness this time around. The bond between them was so powerful that all it took was being together to snap back into place.
The villain was quite obvious from the beginning, but there was room for doubt and the twist at the end was definitely unexpected but all in all, this was a solid addition to the series. I do wonder what the toll is on authors as they dive deep into this cesspool to research crime and killers for their stories.

When Dawn, the heroine, was described as a short and scrappy blonde (oh look, the cover model is wrong AGAIN) private investigator, I immediately thought of another short and scrappy blonde PI...
Dawn had Veronica's smarts, and her strength, and her own "epic" love story with Jason Frost. Talk about lives ruined and blood shed? What about when your boyfriend's brother kidnaps you, tortures you, reveals himself as the serial killer "The Iceman", and your boyfriend is forced to kill him to save you? Oh.
Dawn and Jason find their way back to each other as they, along with Jason's elite FBI profiling unit, search for the copycat imitating The Iceman. Dawn and Jason are tormented figures, and their relationship is steeped in angst, angst, and a little more angst, and passion, and a love that endures amid darkness.
Although Eden threw in twists that I did not foresee, the villain wasn't exactly a surprise. And the distrust among Jason's FBI team annoyed me. But then I remembered that every single individual in the unit is, frankly, screwed up. Since Eden writes such complex characters so well, I can't complain too much. It created a tense and compelling atmosphere.

Before the Dawn is suspense driven story from first page to last. It pulls the truth out of each persons past bringing painful memories as well as why they chose their chosen paths.
The couple in this story has a gut wrenching past that has readers will want them to have their happiness.
The story is a more predictable than I had expected and that came from the back the serial killers seemed to change his MO never once having a direction which made it even easier to figure out the truth.
This book doesn't stand out as much as others in the series because it seem to follow a lot of her most recent books and lack the twist she is known for. The sex is hot like always, the characters are dark but lovable and this story can be read in a day leaving readers very satisfied.

I finished this book a week ago but with the holidays and all, I totally forgot to rate it. Anyways, I thought the suspense in this one is much better than the first book of this series. And the h is stronger (for me, okay?) She went through a traumatic experience and end up a fighter.

I think the steam is running out of this series. Not as gripping and read more like a Harlequin Intrigue story than how the prequel and first book were. Funny thing, Tucker was more of an alpha and on his game in Hunted then he was in his own book.
Hoping the next book which I think it is last in the series is better..

Before The Dawn is a pulse pounding, action packed read. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and didn't let me go until the very last page. I enjoyed it immensely amd cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

This is the second book in Eden's Killer Instinct series. I do have to admit I enjoyed the first one a little better but this was still a good read.
Our two MC's meet up again about 7 years after they were separated due to Tucker's brother kidnapping and torture of the heroine. There is much between the two. Tucker has always looked out for her, checked up on her and I liked that aspect. He just wanted to protect her. She, on the other hand, became a PI and learned to protect herself. She wouldn't be the victim again.
I always enjoy Cynthia Eden's RS books. She is a great suspense writer. The only disappointment I had with this one, is that the killer was easily guessed. There was no other explanation after reading a key scene in the story. It was pretty much a dead give away.
However, all in all, a good story. Eden always does a good job of entertaining me.

A suspenseful and drama filled tale of a killer on the loose, trying to establish who he is while time runs out and watching long lost love get a second chance.

I love Cynthia Eden, she's one of my favorite authors. That being said, I wasn't so happy with this story. First off, it contained one of my least favorite RS tropes, that of the person doing the investigation becoming the prey. Then there was the FBI agent set up to take the fall. The bad guy was painfully obvious from the moment he entered the story. The ever so-convenient third possibility that pops up when needed to free the good guy up from suspicion. The lengthy explaining it all at the end because he's about to kill you anyway...it was just a whole big old wagon full of overused clichés.
Well written as always, but contained more creaky, worn out tropes than the book can feasibly contain.

One thing that always amazes me about this author is how she’s always able to surprise me. Her villains are well-rounded and different each time.
Dawn and Tucker were dating until one day Tucker’s brother took Dawn up to their father’s cabin and tortured her. He was the Iceman, a serial killer who had been killing in that area. But more than that, he told her that Tucker was coming to join them.
Tucker was in the Navy and on leave when his brother told him he had a surprise for him. That surprise was a bleeding Dawn. Tucker saved Dawn, but he and his brother look so much alike that she could only see Jason.
Seven years later there’s a serial killer targeting New Orleans, and it’s a perfect copycat of the Jason Frost kills. Tucker is out of the SEALs but in the FBI now, and the detective who recognized the kill style immediately called in the feds. Tucker’s team is known for taking down serial killers, so he’s sent down.
Dawn is a PI and she’s really good at her job. She’s brought into the police station and feds are telling her there’s a copycat of the killer who almost killed her? She wants in. She’s nobody’s victim, and she wants to hunt down this sadistic killer. She also needs to prove that it’s not Jason Frost. Tucker shot him, but the body was never found. Maybe catching this copycat will force her brain to realize Jason is dead.
Tucker is doing his best to give Dawn space because he knows his face is the last one she wants to see. But he refuses to leave Dawn alone since she’s got a big target on her back. Dawn doesn’t want Tucker to leave her alone. She’s missed him so much. But she’s no longer a broken 21 year old girl. She’s changed and she wants him still.
But the case isn’t quite what it seemed, and it’s impossible for Jason Frost to be the killer, right?
Dawn and Tucker never stopped loving each other, but can they move past their shared nightmare?
I love how Cynthia Eden has a way of making the villain a surprise without it feeling like he’s coming out of left field. She’s so good at intricate plot lines and villains who feel creepily real. I can’t wait for the next book.!

Can Tucker and Dawn overcome the shadows of their past and stop a killer before he comes for the one who got away?

While the characters and romance are enjoyable and the serial killer plot has some intense and gripping moments, I really wish Cynthia Eden had a better proofreader as her writing is choppy with excessively repetitive vocabulary choices.
Dawn's strength and resilience in rebuilding her life following the Iceman's attack make her a particularly appealing heroine. Moreover, she thankfully avoids the TSTL actions that so often plague this type of book. Tucker has not fared as well in the aftermath of killing his brother and losing the woman he loved. Eden portrayal of Dawn and Tucker's initial reunion is both realistic and heartwrenching. There are even times when it is difficult to accept that they will ever be able to reconcile their pasts, but Eden manages to make their second-chances romance believable.
The Iceman returns investigation is a strong police procedural with a couple of convincing red-herrings. That said, it is possible to guess the culprit by following the clues.
The next and final installment in the series focuses on the two other members of Samantha Dark's unit, Macey Night and Bowen Murphy. While Macey's connection to killers is obvious, Bowen's is only hinted at. It will be interesting to see its exact nature.
All in all, an enjoyable read despite my issues with Eden's writing.

I can honestly say as of right now I have yet to not enjoy a book by Cynthia Eden. I'm just a huge fan of hers. She has a way of writing hero's that will make your heart sigh! I just don't know what it is about them that makes me feel that way.
Of course I do, they are always tough, warm caring and loving men that will go to the ends of the earth for you. Who wouldn't love that? They also know when to step back and let you handle your own life.

Haunted by the past and not being able to be around Tucker, because the 'Iceman' was his twin brother, she left him. Yet now, a killer with the same MO as Tucker's brother has surfaced and is determined to wreck havoc on Louisiana again. Dawn isn't about to shy away from investigating, but working alongside Tucker might just get them both killed, if they don't work through their issues stemming to the night Tucker had to kill his brother to save her. Will Dawn be able to give Tucker a second chance, even though he's a constant reminder of the worst night of her life, or are they both too haunted by the past to ever be together again?
Although I haven't read the first book of this series, I found this could easily be read as a stand-alone, and from the very first page I was drawn into this story because of what the heroine is going through and then the decision the hero has to make. However, it was from the moment that the hero and heroine are reunited years later that made this story a real page turner for me, as I wanted to know what happened to Tucker's brother and if he was the one killing again.
As for the dialogue, it was really intense and at times had my pulse racing due to the investigation; the deaths and how they're connected to the original crimes committed by Tucker's twin brother; and how the investigation is closing in around the hero and heroine and making it palpable that they are the end game for the killer. Will Tucker be able to keep Dawn safe? Will they figure out who the killer is before it's too late? Furthermore, the heroine is resilient and brave and I liked how far she's come since that fateful night where her life was turned completely upside down due to her being the target of a serial killer. I also liked how far she's willing to go to stay in the investigation, because she's not about to give up on figuring out what the madman committing the crimes now wants.
While Tucker, he's confident, determined and I liked how protective he was of Dawn. She means the world to him and always has and he's not about to let anything happen to her. I also liked the challenge Dawn provided Tucker, because after everything she's been through, she's not about to let the killer get to her a second time. Because facing the past and helping solve the case is another way to help her heal from the past and hopefully find her way back to the man she has always loved. Will Tucker be able to keep Dawn safe, so they can achieve their second shot at happy ever after?
Overall, Ms. Eden has penned a thrilling read in this book that takes readers on a wild ride with its twists and turns. However, in saying that, I had a feeling of who the killer was the more into this story I read and it turned out I was right. Still, that knowledge didn't worry me, because I couldn't stop reading, as I wanted to know what the madman had in store for the hero and heroine when it came to his end game. The way this story ended had me on the edge-of-my-seat due to the suspense, but I liked how things turned out for Tucker and Dawn, because they're meant to be together. I would recommend Before the Dawn by Cynthia Eden, if you enjoy romantic suspense, second chance romances or books by authors Sharon Sala, Heather Graham, Kat Martin and Mary Burton.

I guessed pretty quickly about the plot yet C E kept me wondering anyway with her twisted ways ^^ .
I didn't buy that much the romance especially with the issues they were facing but the story was good and engaging.
The end was very rushed IMO and the killers intention/explanation felt off to me though ...
Anyway i'm very curious about the other agents !
