Soul Eater #4

Scorpion Trap

Rate this book
Given a choice, I’d prefer never to return to Egypt. Isis doesn’t do choices.

The old world is dead. Legend tells us the gods are myths. But some remain, like a noose around Ace Dante’s neck. And none are more dangerous than Isis. She demands the Soul Eater return to the land time forgot, break into a newly discovered tomb, and retrieve the skull from the sarcophagus inside. If Ace does this one thing, Isis will reveal the secrets he desperately seeks. Ace knows there’s a catch, there always is, but the truth is far worse than even he can imagine.

As Isis’s true intentions unravel, so does Ace’s past, leaving him no choice at all.

History is wrong. The past is a lie.

And for the Soul Eater, the truth found in Egypt is far more terrifying than any god.

Actual rating: 8 pathetic little stars. In my defense, I've only read this book once. I clairvoyantly predict the little stars shall multiply exponentially with every reread and stuff.

I had a job to do. Free the archaeologists. Find the skull. Destroy it. Go back to New York. Polish off the bottle of vodka in my bottom drawer. And be the surly asshole everyone loved to hate.

In Scorpion Trap, Ace and Shu are dragged back to their home and native land by Isis, Goddess of Light. The world's top evil bitch.
Once there, they go about angering the gods as usual, this time with some extra grave robbing like a cherry on top:
Shu panted, hand on her thighs. She looked over at the bundle of scrolls under my arm, grinned, and held out her fist.
I bumped my fist with hers and said, "Best tomb raiders in Egypt.
"You know it."
Shu and Ace's evolving eternal love partnership got a lot of attention in this book and almost made up for the distinct lack of Cat. Pippa DaCosta keeps on building their relationship, which is remarkable since Ace and Shu have been tied to one another for five centuries and only now are beginning to consider one another a friend.

The other central plotline in Scorpion Trap is Ace's ongoing quest to make sense of his own identity and the distant memories he just can't seem to access. We finally get a some answers to the mysteries building up since book 1. Plot reveals had me like

Two more months until Serpent's Game. And now we wait.

Pippa DaCosta (PD), what did you just do???? This is my first series by PD so I have no idea if they are all this daring and leave you hanging on the edge of your seat at the end of a book but dang I really like the unexpected twist this book took the series into.

You should ask yourself three questions

① - Do you like Urban Fantasy?

❷ - Are you a fan of Anti-heroes?

③ - Would you be interested in something without Vampires and Werewolves but instead has Egyptian Mythos as the base and some crazy gods?

If the answer to those questions is yes THE WHY AREN’T YOU ALREADY READING THIS SERIES. Well if you are like me it is just because you have a huge TBR pile and just haven’t made it there yet. Well I’m telling you that all of PD’s other series are totally getting bumped up that list since I enjoyed this book so much.

Ace Dante. I had a few theories of who/what you might be and I was so totally wrong but in the best way. Now whenever I read the name Ace Dante this happens.

description

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Ace tries his best to avoid the gods but ever since he got the reputation of being a God Killer he just can’t seem to get off of their radar and now Isis is trying to pull him into something he is pretty sure might just get him killed.
That smile was a portent of doom. When gods smile, someone is about to suffer.

Isis is the living embodiment of the cautionary tale of why not to marry your brother. I mean there are a plethora of good reasons why it is a horrible idea but they totally take dysfunctional relationship to a brand new level cray-cray. Isis herself is all over the crazy hot scale and I can’t decide if she is trying to seduce Ace or just piss Osiris off.

description

I loved that this story takes us back to Egypt. Sure it is the last place the Ace and Shu (since they are required to go everywhere together) want to be but I enjoyed the new backdrop. PD did a great job bringing the pyramids to life both figuratively and literally. I loved the idea of them holding power and being a living thing.

Shu is the shining light in this series for me. Yes I know she has a pitch black soul and in the past has possibly tried to sabotage Ace a time or two and maybe get him killed. That doesn’t change the fact that I love this once enemies, to frenemies to not quite friends but possibly a step up from frenemies relationship that they have.
“It’s sweet.”
“What is?” she grumbled.
“How much you care.”
“About you?” She snorted. “If we weren’t cursed together, I’d steal a bus just to run you down and grind your lifeless carcass into the asphalt.”

It is fantastic that I know there will never be a love interest between them but I’m rooting for an actual acknowledged friendship because who knows you better than your worst enemy. I like Shu and her possible journey for redemption. Looking at her soul you know she has a long way to go but she is a Demon Sorceress so it isn’t like she doesn’t have time.

THAT ENDING OMG, it threw me for a loop and I’m pretty worried about Ace. But I’m even more excited to see what kind of vengeance he is going to reign down. There are some Gods that need a lesson and I’m looking to Ace Dante to see if he can make them pay and still keep a shred of humanity. The Jury is definitely out on that until August.

A Buddy read with my friends and family in the Wensday UF Group @ BB&B!

Wow! We just got another very Pippa type of book! We should be used to it by now - nothing ever goes quite the way you think it would, and this is exactly why we keep coming back for more. You always expect that there is more than could meet the eye, but even with your whole being prepared for the catch, Pippa DeCosta still manages to outmaneuver you and she always has another trick up her sleeve...

Ace and Shukra, our resident bound Demon-Witch, once again get pulled into the games of Isis and Osiris, the most bored, self-involved and despicable Egyptian G-ds, still living among us. My friend Robin is right, if nothing else (and there are a ton of good reasons not to) discourages you from marring a sibling, those two's travesty of love and marriage should be the poster children of not doing it!!!! Add to this unlimited power, crazy embedded in their genetic code, and life span of infinity, and you can see how they might think that all around them are like annoying fleas on their luxurious pelts... It does not bode well for the flees, once they get noticed... Isis even attempted to play to our human emotions at one point.... Hmmmm....

"...“Yeah, she could take her pseudo-sadness and shove it where her eternal light didn’t shine.”..."

So, the twisted bitch Isis, has obviously created some plans for her eternally beloved brother/husband, and she is looking for a fitting victim, hmm, partner, to pin those on, or rather, assist her with:) For whatever reason and by throwing in the bate that she will let him know who he truly is once they are done, Isis gets Ace Dante, The Nameless One, to come with her back to the Old Land, Egypt. The land is beautiful and magic crackles just under the sand, titillating with memories just out of reach. Ace is awakened to feelings he cannot understand, not congruent with whom he believes himself to be... And being off kilter, Isis finds ways to make his life miserable, the vicious viper! And as much as he is unhappy about Shukra"s meddling, he knows he more than once got away from mortal danger because of the multifaceted demon-witch. I love Shu! In case someone has missed it by now, she is my favorite character and I will come back and ask for more as long as she is in the picture - she makes this world full of darkness a bit more bearable and hopeful. It is a very sad commentary on the state of G-ds, when the lonely demon with dubious motives is the one who becomes the beacon of hope for humanity.

"...“I don’t love Isis. I don’t even like her. I don’t hate her quite as much as I hate you, but it’s a close call. She’s a grade-A sociopath, and so are you. So are the rest of the gods awake and breathing today. Driven insane by time and power, you’re so consumed by your own divinity that you can’t see it for what it truly is: a noose around your necks. Your world is dead. Your time is dead. Get over yourselves. You could do a lot of good in the new world, but you can’t see past your own egos to try. That makes you a bunch of hypocritical, inbred assholes.”..."

The writing in this series is the best that Pippa DeCosta has delivered up to date! She has tighten her prose, her plots have become more purposeful, and the length of the books is perfect - a bit on the short side, but filled to the top with action and intrigue. I love that she has gotten to the point where she lets the action of the characters to show us who they are, instead of falling into the trap of explaining them to us. Overall, this is becoming a must-read series for all UF fans and those who like some Pulp-Noir:) I can't wait for the next installment and have already pre-ordered it:)

Now I wish you all Happy Reading and may you always find what you need in the pages of a good Book!!!

Isis and Ace in Egypt? What could possibly go wrong?

4.5 stars! Absolutely loved it!

“Some things happened in Egypt.”
“Things like you lost your wallet, or the we’re all gonna die kinda things?”

Isis, the Goddess of Light, demands that Ace go to Egypt with her to retrieve a skull from inside a tomb. She can destroy him with a raised eyebrow; he is irresistibly drawn to her and she has an insanely jealous & very powerful God for a husband. What could possibly go wrong?

Ace and Shu are caught up in the mystery and history of Egypt while trying to keep in Isis’ good graces in hope of staying alive. Ace knows that he is being used, but is driven to find out whom and what he truly is and Isis is willing to tell him if he does her this one favour.

I love the volatile and dynamic relationship between Ace and Shu. It is founded on hate and the need for survival as they have been bound together for centuries. They know each other too well to try to hide anything from each other. Shu easily sees through Aces lies and calls him out on it frequently. She does her best to keep him alive, even if it is only to save her own hide.

If we weren’t cursed together, I’d steal a bus just to run you down and grind your lifeless carcass into the asphalt.

Ms DaCosta’s creative and vibrant writing brought Egypt to life in my mind. I have never been there, but I could see it clearly with the crowds of tourists, the endless sands, the ancient Pyramids and their magnificent history. I could feel the magic and the atmosphere, and vividly pictured the lush glorious splendour of the past that Ace remembered in comparison to the noisy polluted city with its barren ruins of today.

Despite the invading tourists, grumbling tour buses, and chattering tour guides, this was a sacred place. The earth hummed with slumbering power, fragmented and scattered over time until all that was left might as well have been dust in the wind, but it was there, like the dying embers of a collapsed inferno.

This was one hell of ride that left me in shock as revelations about Ace’s past are revealed. And what a conclusion! Ms DaCosta never ceases to surprise me and keep me guessing.

The truth was far worse than I could have ever imagined.

I need the next book right now!

Buddy read with both the MacHalos and BB&B. Because we all worship Pippa DaCosta!

How am I supposed to wait two months for Serpent's Game after the way ST ended??? That teaser at the end is insufficient! I need more and I need it NOW!

Fow a while now Ace has been trying to learn more about who and what he really is. And it seems that the Bitch Goddess aka Isis has the answers. So when she comes knocking, Ace has no choice but to follow her to the last place on Earth he wants to be - Egypt. Being back in the homeland is slowly unraveling the Nameless One's tenuous control. Add to it Ace suspicions of Shu's motivations and our favourite Soul Eater is in deep shit.

With each new instalment I hate Isis and Osiris more but here Isis really outdid herself! That goddess not only needs to die but she deserves to suffer for eternity. Though being married to Osiris is pretty much the same. Still I don't feel even a drop of pity for her. She made her bed and deserves what she's got. The best punishment for her and her brother/husband is to be turned into ordinary humans with all of their memories intact. Her complete disregard for anyone other than her is monstrous. And she has the gall to call Ace "monster"! Her constant attempts to lead Ace by his dick are getting on my nerves. If Ace ever fucks her I'll go nuclear! Poor guy! I feel sorry for him because he hates her so much and he desires her. It must be a horrible feeling.

Shu's my favourite character and she keeps shining in ST. Even when Ace is acting like a dumbass she's still there for him. Unfortunately the man has the thickest skull in the universe and his suspicious nature gets in the way. Adding the events from the end of Hidden Blade, which Isis expertly uses to manipulate Ace, and we get a confrontation that ends up almost destroying them. I always knew that Shu's manipulation of Ace's memories will come and bite them on the ass but now it's imperative that Ace gets his memories back before he does something unforgivable! Sure, the truth will rip him apart but with the revelation at the end of this book Ace needs all the help he can get to remain "human" for a lack of a better fitting word. Because without that humanity he will turn into something as bad as Osiris and Isis.

Isis conned Ace into going to Egypt for an unknown purpose. She promised to reveal who he really is if he helped her. Another motivating factor was she wouldn't tell Osiris anything. Of course Shu had to come with, but it put their relationship to the test. Nothing went smoothly. That's just the way his life works.

Isis is devious as hell. It was obvious she was using Ace, but I actually felt slightly bad for her when she told Ace her story. Sometimes I wished he had listened to Shu's advice and avoided the situation. OTOH he needed to know who he is. I'd probably do something crazy if my past was a mystery too.

Ace and Shu have a fascinating love/hate relationship. It's understandable why Ace has trust issues with Shu. I'm not sure she is really there, but it doesn't appear that she genuinely hates him.

I loved the end! Ace finally learned who he is!!! I'm so excited! I'm dying to know what happens next! This really changes things.

This was the best book in the series yet. While it didn't have some of the characters I had grown to love in it, it did have lots of Shukra (who is kickass) and some crazy twists.

Oh, also, a frickin' massive cliffhanger. So there's that. Thank goodness Pippa writes like a beast and book five will be out in August.

Awesome!
Have you ever been to Egypt? Reading this book felt like revisiting Karnak, Luxor, tombs of Valey of the Kings and Queens except this time – filled with mystery and magic and breathtaking adventure of the likes Indiana Jones and Mummy. An intense journey full of twists and revelations. Unputdownable.

Cliffhanger warning! Better have the next book ready.

If you haven't started this series yet you're really missing out, just imagine sociopathic Egyptian gods roaming modern day New York (and now Egypt) and multiply however awesome that sounds by at least 10 and you'll have an idea what you're getting here. I'd highly recommend reading the series in order though so go away and read my review of Hidden Blade and then BUY YOURSELF A COPY IMMEDIATELY!

Well if you thought their last trip to the Hamptons got complicated you've not seen anything yet. Isis wants Ace and Shu to travel to Egypt and steal a skull from a recently discovered tomb - what could possibly go wrong? Well when the Goddess of Light insists on going with them an awful lot actually and don't even think about what will happen when Osiris finds out his wife has taken Ace on a romantic getaway!

This series just keeps on getting better and Pippa DaCosta keeps blowing my mind with the shocking revelations she makes about poor Ace's past. I thought I knew where his story was going and now I have absolutely no idea but whatever happens it's bound to get worse before it gets better so I feel pretty sorry for him right now. He's such a brilliant character though, one with dark secrets and a delicious bad side. You never know what kind of move he'll pull next and he's just about done with being manipulated by crazy gods so things are getting extremely interesting. Shu is awesome too, totally badass and more than capable of standing up to Ace when he's being an idiot but equally capable of having his back when he's facing off against an army of enemies.

I loved the Egyptian setting here too, the author has captured the desolate feel of the desert and the majesty of the tombs and temples perfectly so it's like you're right there alongside Ace and Shu as they dig through tombs searching for what Isis needs. We get to meet some interesting locals, see Ace and Shu in action and uncover so much more of their past lives. I absolutely can't wait to see the results of certain revelations in Serpent's Game so I'm really relieved I've only got to wait until August to get my hands on a copy! That gives you plenty of time to catch up with the series though so make a start now and make sure you're ready.

"Rarru, Kormod. Woda omd Rakakbar ka."
Hello, Karnak. Wake and remember. Remember me."

Oooh, fateful words;-)

When Dante, with Shukra in tow, is sent on a mission to retrieve a missing skull in Egypt by Isis, long buried secrets resurface. The question is: Should they have remained buried?

"What if the apocalypse is not an event?"

Not only do we get a closer look on old plots and counterplots that were set in motion during Pharaoh Hatshepsuth's rule, we also learn that there may be an even deadlier entity out there than the deadly trio of immortals from the Egyptian pantheon.

Or as Dante so succinctly puts it:

"Isis, Osiris and Seth: keeping insanity in the family since 3000 B.C."

It all starts with one single hieroglyph...

"You are not Ace Dante and you are not the Godkiller, the liar, or the Soul Eater. And now you are no longer the Nameless One."

But how will it end, once Osiris finds out about Dante's whereabouts...?

The being formerly known as the Soul Eater continues to delight and surprise me. Now it only remains to see if Dante has learned a thing or two that will help him in the coming fight - or if indeed Osiris did the right thing... for once...

Oh. My.

So, when Ace is good he is very, very good - and when he is bad, well, you wouldn't like to see him when he's bad.

Suckered into going to Egypt, Ace learns more about himself than he really wanted to know - and now, he can't un-know it. It's what he will do from now that will change everything.

I was trying to think of a cool way to summarise the storyline and hook you in - but just read it. Please. Do yourself a favour and find out what happens in this book, and strap yourself in for the ride!

I find reviewing this book incredibly difficult without giving anything away. I don't want to spoil any of the many wonderful surprises this book has to offer. I will disclose this book gives us a peak into Ace Dante’s past & gives us some insight into his world. It adds depth & moves the story arc forward in ways I certainly couldn't have guessed. As always the relationship dynamics between Ace & Shu will cause you to scratch your head & lol. Let's be honest If you're 3 books into this series it's unlikely you'll need much convincing to buy book 4 but for those who haven't followed the series....

If you enjoy reading about gods & mythology & you've never had the pleasure of reading Pippa DaCosta's work, I'd recommend you start with the Soul Eater series. She does a fantastic job entertaining her readers with unpredictable plots, a fabulous antihero, & a fantastic cast of characters. This series has quickly become one I look forward to reading.

5 stars, I will be re-reading this one. =)

Utterly fabulous read! Every book gets better, more richly detailed, and even more "I just have to know!", than the last. I devoured this entire book in just a couple of hours after getting the kids to bed, it sucked me in for a wild ride that didn't let go until an abrupt ending! With the developments at the end of the book, I can't wait for the next, I have to see what happens!!! If you are looking for a thrilling, atmospheric, and enthralling series this is it, and this is the author!

I love, love, loved it! This book has to be one of the best in the series. We finally get a little insight into how Ace fits into all of the crazy God Stuff, and OMG! What a way to fit. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but you need to read this book! Pippa has pulled out all the stops. The mystery, the mythology and just the dynamic of the characters and the parts they play are fantastically written to pique your curiosity and tucjle your imagination. READ IT!

If you ever thought you knew who Ace Dante, the nameless one, liar, thief, was......well think again.Scorpion Trap takes you back to Egypt, Ace has to accompany Isis there whether he wants to or not. Ace and Shu go on a pretty turbulent ride in this journey, and the truth comes out who Ace really is. No spoilers, but by shemek Osiris can rot in Hell for all I care. Once again Pippa has bought her characters to life and make you love, hate or just want to kick them into the next universe.Cant wait for the next book.highly reccommended reading.

This was yet another awesome installment in this series. I swear, this series just keeps getting better and better. Where in the last book, questions of who Ace is were brought up, in this book, some things were answered, and DAMN, I was expecting some shit, but not THIS shit. This was one hell of a wild ride, and the conclusion was intense. It definitely left me feeling like, whoa, where do we go from here, because ANYWHERE this series goes after this, that's not a ride I want to be on, but it damn sure is one I want to see and read about. Things are only going to get crazier and I can't wait.

In the last book, we got to see more of Shu and who she's become as a human, and this book, we get to see even more of her, and her relationship with Ace. I really hope they continue working together, because I think being cursed together has been good for them. Also, we get to see more of Isis, love her or hate her. We get to see into her world a little, and get a peak behind the curtain of her master plan, and boy is it a doozy. some shit goes down, that's for sure.

I liked the dose of history we got in this book. Anytime a book can teach me something that I didn't know already within the context of a good read, I consider that a HUGE win. And I loved learning about the tomb that isn't quite a tomb nestled in between the Valleys of Kings and Queens. I loved learning about Hatshepsut and Senenmut and their actual place in history (I know the author embellished their story, but they really did exist and I love learning about stuff like that).

This book was definitely exciting, with plenty of twists and turns, full of mystery. I really loved that we started to get some answers, and that Shu was there the whole time to help Ace. (Really, it's a pity he doesn't trust her, because I think over the hundreds of years they've been bound together, she's really come to be a true friend, and I like her. Plus, she kicks ass).

The reveal was intense, I expected something big, but not like that, and now that we know what's up, I really want to see how this pans out in the next few books. I want to know how Ace deals with things, how the world fares in the wake of this, and what happens with with Osiris and all of his family members. I'm sure things are going to get a little rough for Isis, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I feel like the prophecy is really starting to shape up though and make sense. It is a little worrying though, because I could definitely see things going off the rails, so we'll see how this turns out. I commend Pippa for continuing to write fascinating books that keep me begging for me. I'm sure she has a master plan for this series, and I've so enjoyed watching every piece of it unfold throughout this reading journey. This was maybe my favourite book yet, and I feel like I say that with every book, because they just keep getting better and better. I recommend this series to ANYONE who enjoys action and badass-ness in their paranormal/urban fantasy reads. Anyone who would like to read about the point at which ancient Egyptian magic and contemporary urban fantasy collide, pick this series up, because you'll love it.

Another exciting read by DaCosta. The Soul Eater Series gives a distinct urban fantasy feeling not unlike that of the Dresden Files and Hellequin Series. These books all have a badass protagonist thats constantly surrounded by powerful beings attempting to use him for their own gains. They also all have a pretty convoluted background background which as the books develop this gives more power and control to the main characters.

Book 4 of Soul Eater takes us back to Ace's homeland (of Earth) of Egypt. We explore much more of the Gods backgrounds, the insane family issues that Isis and Osiris (and their siblings), and finally delve into Ace's background more. This book was a really fun action packed read and I love that we are slowly more learning about Ace and how he's not what he appears to be. Pippa has been hinting at Ace's differences from normal soul eaters for the past 2 books and its extremely satisfying to see more light being shed on Ace's unique history. However at points I was disappointed with the regression of Ace and Shu's relationship, just as they seem to be becoming friends (Shu making a huge sacrifice at the end of book 3 for Ace), how easily Ace keeps regressing to his base desires (although that may be on purpose giving the character he's supposed to be). Overall I love the way the plot is laid out, Pippa does a great job foreshadowing exciting future events (I keep hoping Ace's memories about Bast will be addressed as its kinda sad to know that his ex-wife has been seemingly killed yet Ace still somehow has no idea) without leaving the ending unsatisfying. Whats even better is that she seems to have the sequel already written and ready to release in two months. 8/10 would recommend especially to fans of urban fantasy.

I have been a fan of Ms. DaCosta’s for awhile, and I truly love her books. Now, I have to admit that while I love the Soul Eater series, I didn’t think it would ever beat The Veil series. Well, after reading this latest installment, Soul Eater is now tied with The Veil series! Aside from how well-written it was, what great action the book had, and the great character interaction and development it was full of, the book just took everything to the next level, a level I don’t know how the author will beat in the next one. Ace is all turned around and doesn’t know who to trust, comes to realize who he really is, and, as I don’t want to say too much, finally has something drastic happen at the end of the book that might change everything. I just wanted to smack the characters at various times throughout this book, which to me means I was thoroughly enjoying myself. I didn’t want to put the book down and was furiously “flipping” the pages to see what was going to happen next. If you are a fan of this series, you will love this installment. If you haven’t, start at the beginning and brace yourself for a wild ride! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

Absolutely amazing!

Normally I review each book as I read it but with this series I couldn't stop reading long enough to review each book. The only reason I stopped now is because I had to!

I do love a good series about the old gods brought into modern times. And this one has been so much fun. It's refreshing to love the hero that is basically evil incarnate, but doesn't really remember that so he's trying to do good. His equally evil, quirky demon sorceress sidekick id's just as much fun. And the clashes between them and all the gods interfering in their lives is so twisted it's hysterical.

Not to mention the level of adventure they go through! These books just flow so smoothly stopping between each one has been torturous. Now I have to stop until the new one comes out and that is going to be true torture!

Between Ace and Shu and Osiris and Isis there is adventure and trials, emotion and laughs and so much story that this series could go on forever. But I fear the next will be the last. Can't wait for it to come out! If you enjoy a good novel about the old gods, this series is it. Very Well Done!

It only took a handful of pages to remind me while I'd fallen in love with Ace Dante and this entire series. I've loved every book that has come out, and this has been no exception, but I have to say I think this is my favourite book of all of them. The story was complex and surprising, filled with action and emotion, and had a huge twist that I did not see coming. I almost missed my train stop I was so engrossed in the adventure. As usual, the characters were stellar, and while I don't like her, it was great to get some back story from Isis. I really loved Shu and Ace's relationship and how it altered. But of course, Ace is the star of this story. I loved his torment and his struggle with who he is and who he was, and I can't wait to see what the consequences will be. I seriously can't tell you guys how amazing this series is. You'll be hooked after the first few pages. It's such a unique series in urban fantasy, and is not to be missed by anyone looking for a great, exciting read!

The problem with an unreliable narrator, is that he's, you know, UNRELIABLE.
And it gets worse when he is thousands of years old and has friends he may/ or may not have asked to mess about with his memories. [if he has forgotten he asked? Do they have real consent? now there's a question.] That's not a spoiler, readers know he did this, but he has 'forgotten'.
I suspect the dark & light prophecy might have more to do with his secret daughter and HER child with Osiris. Surely that would tick the prophecy bucket, too? That's the problem with prophecies, they can be applied to different events.

Each time I wonder why I don't buy more books on Kobo, I remember that their phone app is dreadful. It just won't update, which means you lose your place, your time stats are skewed, and it is just bloody annoying. Sighs. Two more titles to go in this series.

Another great read!

This series continues to grab my attention. I love reading about all the ancient Egyptians and the Gods, and how in the story, some are still alive today, acting as humans. Ace and Shukra end up traveling to the last place either wants to return to- Egypt. There, Isis continues her games and tries to enlist Ace’s help, by promising to share who he really is. She dangles the carrot the entire time, only giving tidbits and hints until she gets what she wants from him. Meanwhile they have to worry about Osiris and his obsessive jealousy in regards to any who spend time with his wife. Will this trip be the straw that broke the camels back- or will Ace finally discover his history? Read to find out!!

Ace is on the path to find out who and what he truly is. Unfortunately in order to find out that information, he has to do a job for the last person he wants to work with, Isis. She is the only one who is willing to tell him who he is, for a price of course. Ace has to learn who he can trust and what memories he can trust. This book is filled with twists and turns, trials and triumphs. Such an excellent book and so eye opening. Pippa DaCosta has done it again. We finally have some answers, but with answers, comes more questions. Thank you Pippa for allowing me to read this amazing story for a review. I cannot wait for the next one to come out.

I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet. My personal review of the book is as follows:

I personally feel that the main point of this book in particular from a story arc point of view was a vehicle for the main character to find out his main backstory and truly come to terms with himself as a whole with a “tomb rader” temple raide grab artifact for almost in my (personal opinion) background interest(for lack of a better way of phrasing it).

As a side note I really enjoyed the parts with the “Ferryman” in them. I can’t wait to see what the main character does with his knowledge of his background. Overall I personally rate this book a 6 out of 10.

OK, so the storyline is still good - I couldn't put the book down - and I really want to know what happens in the rest of the series, but I thought Ace was acting like a real idiot in this one, and for that reason, he got a bit annoying. All the times he got himself burned dealing with Isis, and yet he kept going back and talking to her alone so he could stuff up again...

Too frustrated with him right now. I think I need a break. I will read a different book and then get back to finishing the series.
