I've come to Earth to hunt down a killer, not find a mate. But then I see her and all I can think is...MINE. Just one dangerous problem— My enemy knows she's here...and he wants her for himself.
Cassie Anderson has been an orphan since the age of four. Left on her own, she grew up a hard-working, pragmatic woman of the Montana Territory, her steady employment at the Selby boarding house the only life she knows. When strange, sensual dreams drive her from her bed at night, her body heavy with desire and the scar on her palm burning, Cassie isn't sure what to think. When the handsome stranger tempting her each night with stolen kisses and irresistible caresses suddenly appears in the flesh, she believes she's truly lost her mind.
Maddox of Everis was born a Hunter. Second son to a powerful ruling family, he volunteers for the dangerous mission to a far away, primitive planet called Earth. His mission? To track down an evil foe responsible for his twin sister's death. He's come ready for the hunt, prepared to kill, if necessary, but he is not prepared for the mating mark on his hand to burn with sexual fire. Shocked but desperate to find his mate, Maddox will do whatever it takes to protect her from his enemy. He expects to find a mate eager to welcome him into her bed and her heart. But Cassie is an Earth woman, an orphan who has no idea who or what she is... not a simple cowgirl, but a descendant of ancient warriors who once colonized Earth.
Cassie is a powerful shock to his system, a woman he will do anything to possess. But when he tells her the truth, that he's an alien bounty hunter and she's his marked mate, she refuses to believe him. That is, until the dangerous madman he's traveled across the galaxy to hunt finds her as well. Suddenly it's not just Maddox's skillful kiss forcing Cassie to rethink everything she thought she knew, but an evil alien bent on possessing her for himself. She'll have to trust Maddox with both her life and her heart if they're going to survive.
This was part of a boxset (Alien Romance Holiday Spectacular) that I picked up somewhere… hopefully a freebie since it doesn’t look promising. 😊 I didn’t realize until I finished it that this is part of the Virgin’s spinoff series. (which I haven’t loved) This is my 13th book from her Interstellar Brides (w/ spinoffs), they’ve been hit and miss, but The Alien’s Mate had an odd feel that didn’t work for me.
First, Cassie isn’t a virgin, so it doesn’t fit with the rest of the series. The females are virgins because they’re marked Everis mates (mark on their palms) and don’t feel attracted to other men. Personally, I find virgins annoying, but think you should be consistent.
The bigger issue, IMO, is that the story takes place in 1885 which did not gel with the sci-fi theme. If you can overlook the ridiculousness of an elite alien hunter hoofing around on his horse with his ion blaster, ReGen wand, and invisibility shield. It left Cassie completely clueless which made her annoying. I don’t have patience for a TSTL female constantly pushing back because she can shoot a gun.
For example, this is after the bad guy ripped the throats out of her family, and she’s refusing to get on the safe spaceship.
“Forget the damn sheriff, Cassie. You have to come with me. You don’t have a choice.” “Yes, I do,” I countered, crossing my arms over my chest. “And I choose to go to town.”
“Neron can go hang. I have a rifle, and I know how to use it.” I saw the familiar object sticking from my saddlebag, but in comparison to the ship beside me, it looked old and simple and useless. “I’m a damn good shot.” I could shoot the tail off a wasp at a hundred paces.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Bottom Line- Not great. Maddox was a constant ass kisser, Cassie was difficult, and there was no chemistry. She went from “Then leave! Go and take the danger with you. You made your problems, my problems to I’m your mate - I can't live without you- take me with no development. Meh.
A good length, sexy book between our cowgirl Cassie and our alien Maddox. Cassie has been widowed for three years. She had a passionless marriage where she basically married her housekeeper's son to keep a roof over her head. Maddox is an alien who's been searching for his true mate, who carries the same mark on the wrist for a long time. When a dream warrior enters and makes love to a Montana cowgirl, sparks fly. Soon they meet and she understands his world. Added is a villain Neron who is hell bent on destroying Maddox. It started out amazing but got a little boring by the middle. That being said it was sweet. Can't wait to read about Thorn and Elizabeth. Safe read 3.5/5
This was a fun read. I enjoyed the combination of historical and sci/fi romance, which I don't see very often. It made Cassie's difficulty in believing Maddox even more powerful, since her world didn't have any of the basic inventions that would help her relate to the world Maddox comes from.
I like Cassie, she's strong and intelligent, but she wasn't as easy to relate to for some reason. From the beginning of the book, her thoughts about her dream lover sounded far more experienced and modern than I'd expect someone of that era to be. Overall it was a good story, somewhat lacking in world building - although there was a reference to Ms. Goodwin's Interstellar Brides series. I'm definitely looking forward to Elizabeth and Thorn's story and finding out more about this world.
Avrei dovuto chiuderla lì, a pagina 0 o sfidare i miei pregiudizi sugli erotici?
Chi ti conosce davvero davvero, davvvero?

This book was fantastic! I’m not usually one for historical or western romance, but the author managed to mix both of those genres with good old fashion SciFi romance to create a story I just couldn’t put down. The characters were eye catching and down to earth. Well she was, he was eye candy and from out of this world, and together they tackled every obstacle and bad guy that came across their path. I enjoyed getting to see her learn not just what she was to him, but what the future looked like. I’m right there with her because I would give up just about everything for indoor plumbing. This book was a wonderful weekend read and an amazing series starter. I can’t wait to see what happens with Thorn and his reluctant mate.
I think we know what kind of crazy book this is. It is also one set in the 1880’s in Montana. Go figure. Oh, and as there’s 4 hunters and the second one was set up to find his Earth girl…I see this as a 4 book arc.
DNF. If you are going to set a story in the 19th century, your character’s voices should sound as if they came from that period, NOT some cheap porn film. I swear I lost a couple of IQ marks reading this.
The Wild West meets dominant alien in this exciting new series. From the planet Everis, comes a group of Hunters to capture a group of criminals, escaped from their prison and are now on earth wreaking havoc. Maddox has more at stake than just capturing Neron; he has a score to settle since Neron killed his sister, Maddie. But what happens when his mark starts pulsing and he dreams of his marked mate? Is she here in the Montana Territory? Cassie was orphaned at four, taken in by the Anderson family as an adopted daughter, but never shown love, and then at eighteen married to their son, Charles. It was not a marriage of love but convenience. She is twenty-one and widowed, still living with her adopted father/father-in-law, helping him at his boarding house.
The plot has Maddox and Cassie sharing intimate dreams several nights in a row, getting more detailed with each dream. Maddox realizes she is his marked mate, and he must find and claim her. Cassie has grown up assuming the mark on her is a birthmark, but now it is itching and burning, and these dreams she is having, what is happening to her. Maddox knows that he must find her, get her to his ship to protect her, and claim her as his own. How do you convince someone in 1885 earth that you are from an advanced planet and that they are your marked mate? The story is full of adventure, passion, danger, and new beginnings. “Home wasn’t a place or even a planet. It was a person. For me, it was Maddox. Wherever he was, I wanted to be.” This is a new series and I look forward to the next book. Disclosure: I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and ratings are my own.
Written in first person, The Alien’s Mate is book 0 (don’t ask me why it’s considered 0 instead of 1, maybe because the characters weren’t actually virgins?) in this spinoff series (from the Interstellar Bride Series) and follows the human bride Cassie and her alien mate Maddox from the planet Everis. This book actually takes us back to 1885, LONG before Earth was a part of the coalition, the bride processing center and the truth of alien existence, and is written like nothing else Grace Goodwin has given us in these series. The format and plot might have you asking “am I really reading an interstellar bride book? What is this?” Once you can get past the differences, the book becomes an interesting read. Cassie’s husband and his mother died, leaving her to help her dead husband’s father run a boarding house. She never loved her dead husband, never had great sex, never became pregnant, but she did have sex with him, so she was definitely not a virgin. Maddox and Cassie had shared dreams together, and their matching mate marks on their palms (which she mistook as a birthmark) flared to life upon Maddox’s arrival on Earth. He was hunting an escaped convict, guilty of killing his sister, who fled to Earth. His mission changed to finding and claiming Cassie once his mating marks came to life, along with the dreams. His primary goal was to track her down and claim her as his mate, which eventually happened with much persuasion. She thought he was crazy at first with all his alien talk. Neron tracked down Cassie through her mark and killed her husband’s father. She fled with Maddox to his spacecraft, where she finally believed him. Maddox tracked down and killed Neron, but not before he took another human captive. They both survived and presumably live happily ever after.
Everians are humanoid. What sets them apart from everyone else is their size (they’re slightly larger than humans but smaller than most other alien species, which is why they blended into Earth’s society so easily), and they are born with a birthmark - their matched mate bearing the exact same mark, their one true mate, and the mark comes alive when they are near, burning until they are claimed. It also acts as a tracking beacon somehow. Most Everians can’t conceive unless it is with their one true matched mate.
I have no idea why this series is called the “virgin brides” because not all the brides are virgins. Cassie wasn’t. She was a widow, with her husband dying years before she met Maddox. If you are reading this series in chronological order, it would be between books 6 & 7 of the interstellar bride series. However, if you are just starting on all the books, I would recommend reading this book BEFORE starting the interstellar bride series, since its time line takes place long beforehand.
There have been way too many romance novels I’ve read that had me frustrated and yelling “Jesus Christ, when are they gonna fuck?! Get to the good shit already!” When we’re 50% in, and the main characters have barely kissed each other, leaves readers like me aggravated. This is NOT one of those books. The very first chapter gives a very clear indication of what we are in for. I’m fairly confident that there is more sexual content in this book than adventure. It is, quite literally, word porn.
As I’ve read through this series and all its spin offs, I can attest that the plot is incredibly addictive. I am way too invested in each book, in all its adventure and romance.

Heather's Notes So this book was not what I expected and that may have affected my rating. I was not expecting it to be a historical, so I had a hard time relating to Cassie. I felt like she was in denial for too long, and this was a short book. I also felt like the ending was a bit of a let down. I did not like the fact that Maddox didn't care that she saved his life. He did not treat her as an equal and that bothered me. Still it wasn't all bad, and I do kind of want to read Thorn's story.
So this was interesting as the book takes place on earth in the late 1800’s. The 4 Hunter aliens had been sent to either kill or capture fugitives that got away from their planet. One of which killed the twin sister to our main male character.
Our female protagonist is in her early 20’s but has already been a widow for a couple years. She lives with her father in law as she was an orphan before they took her in years before, so it’s the only family she’s ever really known.
She starts dream walking with the one hunter & is shocked when he shows up at there little Inn.
He tries explaining things to her but she doesn’t believe him. That is until the one bad guy kills her father in law and a man who was staying with them, leaving her no choice but to go with the hunter back to his ship.
There she learns lots & they complete there mating. Then he has to go back out to face the bad guy that killed his sister but our female protagonist ends up saving the day.
Then this book ends up leading into what I believe would be the next book about the captain finding his mate

I really enjoyed this story. It pulled me in from beginning to end with Maddox on the hunt for an escaped prisoner, one that killed his twin sister. He is a hunter and they track the escaped prisoners to earth. This one is set back in the past in the 1800's so there is no knowledge of aliens. He is an Everian and they have marked mates. A mark on their palm that awakens when their mate is near and allows them to dream share. This story had plenty of action and intrigue as they are tracking the escapee/murderer and he is now after Cassie since he has figured out that she has the mark and is Maddox's marked mate. Cassie is strong and I loved how she wouldn't entirely just back down but she wasn't stupid either. I enjoyed how both Cassie and Maddox went about the fact that he is an alien and she knew nothing about what the mark meant and how it was a shock and hard to believe. The story pulled me in from beginning to end and was well done. Looking forward to more and really wish/hope that Thorne's story is out there somewhere. The narrator did a great job with the characters and story.
I have already read many of the Interstellar Bride Series books, when Audible pulled this series of the Virgins section of the series. I really enjoy all of Grace Goodwins books. I'm not sure if its the way she writes but she is able to mix innocents and spice so well that its very enjoyable to listen to her books. Her writing is similar to Ruby Dixon. So if you like Ruby's books you'd enjoy this series.
The Aliens Mate is the real start of the series, takes place before the Interstellar Bride program has started and before Earth knows anything about other planets and the large war going on. Its taken place on Earth in the 1800's. A young widow woman starts to have dreams of a man who desires her. The Everian male has come to Earth to avenge his sisters murderer.
When Maddox gets to Earth he realizes that his mate is there, something no one realized could happen as they mate only other Everian. He now has to claim his mate and keep her safe, and get her to believe such a crazy story that ships fly and he is an alien.
First let me say that the book title/pic has changed. It is now "Alien's Mate." I actually read this one last. I have read ALL the Interstellar Brides books. I love the fact that this is set way back. Cassie having never experienced anything outside of her small town. When she meets Maddox, she just "knows" there is something about him. The mark on her palm heats up. Maddox, was on Earth to hunt down the man that killed his sister. He didn't expect the mark on his palm to get hot. But that drove him to find his marked mate. The way that they are bonded changed from this one to the current ones. Which I think that was great. Plus it wasn't just Maddox on this journey. We have Thorn, Jace, and Flynn. They need to have their stories told as well. Especially since Thorn's mark just flared up and he is now on the hunt for his mate.
I thought this was a well-formed story and well thought out. It made sense and was easy to follow. They did have a special bond and I liked the old school feel of the man who came out of a dream. I liked him and his team, she was just okay, but a little stubborn and clueless which made her unattractive, but I liked that they were aliens on earth dealing with their technologies in a classic ranch setting. The bad guy had a long history with the hero which made it more interesting. She had kind of a sad life and he swept her away to his ship. I liked the way the next book was teased so I'll have to pick that up next. I felt like this was a good introduction to the world of alien romance. She certainly wasn't abducted but she was fated mate to an alien commander.
First in chronological order. Expensive for self-pub’d novella with some editing issues. I enjoyed the first book I’d read in this series, so thought it might be worth it. Not so much. Yes, it’s highly erotic and steamy (lots of sex for the length), yes it’s a romance and the heroine is strong, etc., and the hero an all-around good guy. And although it’s first-person, readers get from both MCs perspective, so that’s nice. The historical western setting was a draw for me, but there really wasn’t much western flavor to it at all. Cassie was a bit anachronistic here and there too (she’d think stuff like “inner ear” and other things she couldn’t possibly know). The sf world-building was great, though, and pulled this up to 3 stars for me. I will likely read more books on the series as the Interstellar Brides premise is great.
What a way to start the Virgins, part of the Interstellar bride series. Back to the wild west, 1885. The earth was a baby compared to other planets in the universe. Cassie was working in a bording house with her step father when a stranger comes. She could not figure out why her birth mark was on fire, especially when he was near. Not to mention her very real dreams. Maddox and a couple of other fighters came to earth to hunt outlaws from the coalition of planets. He came to earth not expecting to find his fated mate. It was not going to be easy to convice her that not only were they mates but he came from outer space. Loved this book, exciting, fun, and loved the desriptions of the old west. Can't wait to read more.
Not sure if Grace Goodwin is a hit or miss author for me or my reading tastes have changed. Almost through chapter 11 (of 15 plus epilogue) when spanking (not a fan) happened and I thought...'I am not enjoying this novel'. I was never pulled into the story, it was just background noise while I went about doing chores. I was fretting about not reading Goodwin's novels in the proper order (I believe chronicle order is recommended) so 'The Alien's Mate' is the first book of said. It was disappointing compared to some of her other reads. Will I read more of Goodwin's creations, probably but this was a DNF.
The premise is good, and the characters are alright, but it seemed a little too dull and drawn out in a lot of places. I know it's a prequel and novella in length, but it took a bit too much energy to have to stay with the story. I did finish it, and Cassie's attitude was very stilted to me. She wanted to be in charge in a time and place she couldn't be, but when given the opportunity to stand up to Maddox she does so only halfheartedly. I am curious about the others on this Hunter trip, but I might need to go to another story since this one wasn't jumping off the page for me.
This novel has an interesting premise. In it Maddox is an alien that has come, with three others, to catch some criminals from their home planet. Meanwhile, Cassie is a widow of about 30 working at a boarding house in a small town.
They are "made" for each other with marks that pull them together. At this point, the book goes into sex...soft core porn basically of discussions of great sexual need and a desire that is overwhelming.
Unfortunately, it is not for all...it is very distinctly heterosexual, which is fine, but the science fiction aspect ends up being scantly.
Story of Maddox and Cassie. Cassie is a young widow in 1800’s Montana territory. Maddox is an alien from Everis who is chasing an escaped criminal across the galaxy. Cassie is his marked mate, but she doesn’t know what her mark is since she was orphaned at a young age. As with all the interstellar bride books, the steam is HOT. Narrator is quite soft spoken. I think he did a great job, but I had to turn him up whenever there was any other sound around me. Their mating is sealed when they have sex with their marks touching (on the palm of their hands).
Cassie's dreams of her and this handsome man are very erotic. Her birthmark/scar is also burning which has never happened before. Then Maddox comes into the boarding house where she works. Cassie is surprised to find Maddox is the man in her dreams. But Maddox is an alien and he has a difficult time with getting Cassie to believe he is not only an alien but he is her mate. Maddox's mating mark is burning for Cassie. Add into the mix a murderous alien who is bent on hurting Maddox in any way possible. There's lots of action and some unusual goings on which does end up in a happy ending.
Sci-fi meets the old west in this first episode of the Interstellar Brides book. Maddox has come to Earth looking for the escaped criminal who killed his twin sister. He didn't expect to find his fated mate.
Cassie is a widow caring for her widowed father-in-law. When she begins having vivid erotic dreams about a man she never met, she doesn't realize how much her life is about to change.
This is a great story with action, adventure, danger, love, and plenty of steam.
Cassie an orphaned widow discovers there is so much more than she ever dreamed of beyond her town. The story is set in 1800s American West where trains are the new big wonder. So when Maddox tells her he is from another planet she is his destined mate and wants to take her to his spaceship.... She thinks him crazy. Add a little danger and you have there story. Oh and of course plenty of sex with a side of spankings.
Read this as a standalone. It started off quite steamy but as the story progressed it lost steam and traction. Maybe it was the pacing or the lack of character and relationship development. I just couldn't immerse myself into the story. *Side Note- There is some BDSM- spanking mostly nothing too hardcore.*
Can we just for a second talk about how much of a badass the heroine Cassie is? She is strong, resilient, willing to follow her heart, brave, smart, steadfast, and about 1,000 other things. I was so impressed with her arc and how spoilershe is the one doing the saving, not Maddox!
I would really love Thorn and Elizabeth's book, but from what I've researched it doesn't look like it was ever written. (If anyone has info that there IS a book for them, please share with me!)
The first 60% of the book was spent him trying to convince her of anything and everything. It really dragged on with zero action of any kind. Boring dialogue. She was quite whiny as a female protagonist and didn’t live up to the description of this book. It’s heartbreaking for me because this is one of my favorite authors. It’s almost as if, she didn’t write this book. It does not read like her alien books. Is this the same author that wrote Bachelor Beast? I think not.
This was an unexpected surprise. I went in blind and had nonidea it was set in what I'm guessing was the late 1800s. The FMC was a bit annoying and wishy-washy, but thinking on it, her reactions kind of made perfect sense for her time period. I did enjoy the story and the characters. I wasn't crazy about the narration, but on 1.75 speed, it got better. An interesting start to the Intersteller Brides series.
