Most girls fall for the allure of a bad boy at least once in their lives.
Their love can feel like obsession. It’s exhilarating to be wanted that badly. There’s a rush in the danger and even fighting can be intoxicating.
Until the romance turns possessive and jealous…
Brooke Dell is the often misunderstood oldest of three sisters. She knows all about dating a controlling man and wants nothing more than to put it behind her, but when her younger sister starts having an affair her past is brought to light. Paired with feeling inadequate as a stay-at-home mom, she doubts herself. Will she be able to find herself and close the door on her past? Or do old wounds cut too deep?
For the record, I received a copy of this book in exchage for an honest review. Having just read the first in the series, Like Crazy, it was evident how much the author's writing improved from the first to the second book. I really wanted to give this 5 stars, but it was the editing that held me back. I felt like were several times the wrong name was written and I would go back and re-read to make sure I didn't miss anything. So 4.5 stars it is! There are so many things I loved about this book. The first being Jake. He has officially moved towards the top of my Book Boyfriend List. Personally, Brooke was much more relatable and likable than Allie was. We obviously know a bit about their relationship from the first book, but not their history, so I really enjoyed that aspect. From Ashes is one of those books that every woman needs to read. There is some serious life lessons to be learned about regarding unhealthy relationships: recognizing the signs and knowing when to walk away. Read this. You won't be disappointed.
Loved Brooke's story and the parallels to Allie's. You never do forget your first love no matter how unhealthy it was. This book illustrated those feelings and worries for her sister. Makes me wish I had sisters!
Excellent sequel. I enjoyed the plot and "lesson" of this story. There was a particular point where the main character Brooke, realizes what she needs to do that resonated with me and hopefully other women will read and understand when it's time to walk away from something... you actually need to fricken run! It was a heartwarming tale of the love of family, sisters and finding the right person to be with.
