If you've read one Delores Fossen book, you've read them all! However, she brings the seemingly neverending Ryland family saga to a close with a pretty banging good book! The plot is the usual: a Ryland family member, (this time Lucas Ryland), is reunited with a woman the whole family hates, (this time Hailey Darrow), through circumstances that put them in danger, including a baby. This time, Hailey has info on a millionaire and his son. The millionaire went to prison and was killed in a prison fight. The son might want the info because he's incriminated. Or it could involve Hailey's half-sister, who has ties to the millionaire. Or it might be an FBI agent in the millionaire's pocket.
Where Lucas works better than most in the series is that the plot is less convoluted. It's clear what each suspect might be up to and why. The actions scenes are standard for a Fossen book, but at last, FINALLY, there isn't a shootout at the police station! The scenes are all crisp, well-described, and exciting. Also, thankfully, the sex scene doesn't take place at the police station room. That room needs some industrial strength bleach cleaning, in my opinion. Best of all, Fossen has held back on her need to include every single Ryland cousin and brother. Instead, only 4 of them have any real presence in the book. Much appreciated!
Of course, the romance between Lucas and Hailey is all tell and no show, but I could get past it, along with the overabuse of the word "mercy". The action got started from the get-go and generally didn't let up, and Fossen avoided several of the annoyances that usually lead me to rate her books lower.
This was a good Intrigue book to come back to, after my self-imposed break. Sure, I got plenty of cliches, but most mainstream thrillers being released today are all pretty much the same as well, so what is there to lose?
Mercy word count: 12 (I'm still perplexed as to why the editor doesn't just nix them).
This is another great read, by an amazing and talented author.... In this book, we get Lucas and Hailey story.... This book, will hook you from the first page till the last..... You will fall in love with another Ryland.. lol

There is so much action, suspense and mystery and yes some HOT and SWEET romance in this book it will hook you from the first page till the last.... Get this book today, you will love it....
**** I received a copy, of this book but I voluntary reviewed this*****
Hailey up and ran without a word, got into an accident and landed herself in a coma. Its been three months since the accident and the emergency c-section to save the baby and Lucas has been raising their child. Hailey is up now and seems to have secrets shes been hiding. Now things are starting to get complicated when its revealed that some has a hit out for Hailey and Lucas will do everything in his power to keep her and their baby safe.
I loved this book, it had everything I love in a action / mystery / thriller book. It'll keep the readers at the edge of their seats questioning when the assassin will strike. It's loaded with twists and turns and enough clues to keep the readers guessing who might be behind everything that happens. Plus the added element of wondering if those close to the characters might be a mole. It was such a fun read and I was hooked to the very end.
This story appears to take over a period of a few days. Just when you think it's ok to put the book down to take care of business drama happens. Storyline is vague without much character development, but with all the drama, suspense it gets figured out. Good book
She didn’t. Hailey smiled, slow and easy. A smile that lit up her whole face, and she pulled him right back to her for another kiss. “Good. And you can’t take it back.” Lucas had no intentions of ever taking it back. Ever. He gathered Hailey and his son into his arms and held on.
I was thrilled to get a chance to read Lucas & Hailey's story, knowing from the previous books in the series that Hailey was in a coma and Lucas was raising their newborn son alone. I have been looking forward to this tale and it didn't disappoint, what an adrenaline rush it was! So take a deep breath and jump right into the action, the fact that this is the last installment of the Ryland clan series is no hindrance to the enjoyment of the story. The suspense is elevated, the tension is high, the action is constant, and there is more than one possible culprit who the lawmen can pin the crimes on. Every single story of the series I have read has been filled with action, battles, and suspense that had me on pins and needless, making the books impossible to put down until the end. Lucas and Hailey had a history between them, they had a baby. The circumstances around the baby's birth and Hailey's troubles had brought animosity into Lucas' mind towards her. As Hailey is able to bring light to the past events and current attacks, Lucas realizes the truth and is willing to risk his own life to keep her safe. The attraction between them was sizzling. I loved the way they were with each other, the allure pulling them closer at every chance. The difficult timing - with the constant attacks at Hailey - didn't matter that much when the feelings took over. The tender feelings they had with each other had strong roots, and it didn't take a long time for those emotions to bloom again. A fantastic thriller where every moment counts, each of them filled with unexpected twists and turns in the plot with nonstop, explosive, deadly action while the guns are blazing. Mix in a loyal family who is willing to do anything for you, plenty of babies, and a little romance with palpable passion and you have a greatly entertaining story that will leave you breathless! ~ Four Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
So, Ali got me this book at RT, and that bitch KNOWS ME.
Lucas and Hailey. *sigh*
Lucas is a badass Texas Ranger cowboy, and Hailey is an IT gal who is on the run from some crazy people who want her dead after she put some dude in jail. She's knocked up after a one night stand and after getting into a car chase, she crashes and goes INTO A COMA. *gasp!*
Fast forward and she wakes up from said coma and has GIVEN BIRTH! *what!*
And the cowboy she rode one time has been taking care of the baby like a bad ass. *swoon*
Anyway, Hailey wakes up and knows she's in big trouble. And thank god her baby daddy is a nina cowboy extraordinaire because the second she's awake there's gun fighting and shit exploding.
There are a lot of characters and you don't really know who is bad and who is good. Is the FBI who put her in witness protection to blame for her being found? Is the dude's son she put in jail trying to get revenge and save his own ass from the info she has on him? Is her sister who was SLEEPING WITH THE BAD GUY trying to revenge her lover (because that bitch is shady AF)?
You guys. There's not one but TWO surprise babies. A cowboy gun slingin' single dad. A giant ranch that's like... full of other gun slingin' cowboys that Lucas is related to. Like a cowboy compound filled with sexy ninja badass cowboys. Lots of kidnapping. Gun fights. Shit exploding. Bazookas!
This book pretty much has everything I need in life - minus a very few select things.
If you like WITSEC stories as much as I do, you won't want to miss this romantic suspense.
Hailey got pregnant after a one-night-stand. Even though she was in WITSEC, she was still being hunted. On the run, she had a car accident and went into a coma. That's where her one-night-stand, Lucas, found her - at the accident site. By the time she woke up, she'd had a c-section and Lucas had been caring for their son. When he found out that she was running for her and her baby's life because men were after her, he had to protect her.
This suspense will keep you guessing. Who was trying to kill Hailey and why? As I said, I love WITSEC stories. But this one was different because Lucas met the woman when she was already in her new identity.
You will enjoy the romantic chemistry, the suspense and the conclusion in Lucas.
This is the 4th book I read Delores Fossen. I loved ❤ this book's story line. I loved ❤ the action in this story. I loved ❤ Hailey's character. My heart broke 💔 for Hailey. I loved ❤ Lucas's character. I loved ❤ the ending. Awesome job Ms. Fossen.
The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch will rally together to protect their own and keep the evil out of their jurisdiction. And here’s another of Delores Fossen’s series as her simmering lawmen stand guard under the big Texas sky. From one series to another she creates romance filled with danger and suspense, captivating and spell binding stories of love, support and families.
Lucas Ryland has a lot of questions for his son’s mother. He may have saved Hailey Darrow from an accident, but her being in coma is not what he had expected, nor the fact that she’s missing from the hospital and he’s her only hope of protection. With the entire Ryland clan and the extended family in protection mode, Lucas needs to find answers fast to keep Hailey alive and dodge the bullets to even think of a future with her.
As a great computer hacker, Hailey Darrow had a good life and Lucas was her shining moment. But as conspiracies and betrayals come to light, she goes under protection but her identity is compromised. Now fighting for her life and come to terms that she had delivered a baby boy when she was in coma is hard to comprehend and the fire of passion still burns between her and Lucas.
As bullets fly, secrets come to light and family betrayals are exposed, Lucas and Hailey have to fight with their very breath to keep their son alive and not let Hailey sacrifice herself to keep her loved ones alive. With pages of action, doses of passion and family dynamics, “Lucas” is a fast paced read of suspense and tail spinning action that Delores Fossen is known for and delivers yet another thrilling ride.

The name Delores Fossen all but guarantees a book filled with, suspense and a plot that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Filled with drama and a touch of romance. Lucas remembers everything and Haley remembers nothing, not even their baby boy. Ms. Fossen did not disappoint.
You know things aren’t going to end well when you’re only a few pages in and the heroine already has you going, ‘don’t be an idiot’. Seriously. Don’t. Be. An. Idiot.
Here’s what’s going on: Hailey’s been in a coma for three months, although she was pretending the last week of it. Apparently, she’s superwoman because while she was pretending to be in a coma, she was getting out of her hospital bed and exercising her legs while no one was watching. *Insert Eye-rolling here* She knows she needs to make a run for before the hitman catches up with her, so she attempts to hijack her ex’s SUV. When he catches her, he ends up taking her back to his family’s ranch so all his law enforcement family members can protect her and their son.
The blurb sounded intriguing and I’m always up for a solid romantic suspense, but this one just didn’t do it for me. And, if I would have realized that this one was part of the Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series, I would have passed. I think I’ve DNF’d most of the books I received from this series, with the expectation of Kade and it only received a 2 Cup rating.
Normally, I’m a fan of Delores Fossen, but every book in this series is basically the same. A TSTL heroine is rescued by a Ryland, who happens to be their ex, generally a baby/child is involved, murderers are after them, the heroe’s angry, and there’s little romance and a whole lot of inappropriate lusting/loving when people’s being shot at.
Having read all the previous The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series, this was no different. If you read one, you feel like you read all of them as they all have the same theme. Each Ryland brother/cousin always has an ex come back in his life that is being hunted by killer/killers. 9 out of 10 times, there is a kid involved and 3 potential suspects. There is very little to no romance, a lot of angst from Hero & his family for heroine and a quick ending that doesn’t seem to wrap up any of their issues. This is was unfortunately no different, but all that aside, it is still an interesting read for those that may be new to this series.
Lucas has had his son Camden since Camden's mom is in a coma in the hospital..Lucas is called there to find out that Hailey is gone..when he gets in his truck she is hiding there and points a gun at him..she is scared and trying to get away from someone trying to kill her...Is it her own half sister or someone else..This all sets Lucas and Hailey on a rocky road to try to protect their son and to get away from the killers..but they attack where lucas and all the rylands live and I was surprised by who was behind all the devastation and killing.i had it figured for someone else..It is another really good book by Delores Fossen!!!
Lucas by Delores Fossen is another romantic suspense read. I love this writer's books. Her characters are funny, hot, and charming. They are always in trouble both the romance and the danger kind. Two stubborn people share a night of passion. Passion that leads to a baby. Then, the law enforcement Cowboy finds her on the run with their baby. He takes them in swearing to protect them both. But once in close proximity, both are starting to feel the tug of chemistry build up once more. Sexy, sweet, and entertaining. I loved reading Lucas by Delores Fossen. She's definitely hooked me in as a new fan. Overall, I highly recommend this novel to all.
Wish I didn't waist my money buying the last 6 books of this series (Josh, Sawyer, Landon, Holden, Drury and Lucas) (The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch). I skipped through reading the majority of these last 6 books because there was way too much sexual content and the books were literally the same, just the names were changed. If you read one you are good for all. I was so VERY disappointed in these books, especially after enjoying the first set of 6 (Grayson, Dade, Nate, Kade, Gage and Mason) in this series.
A good, quick, summer read. I liked how the story was a romance but also had a lot of action and suspense. I stayed up past my bedtime last night to finish this book because I needed to know what was going to happen with Lucas, Hailey, Colleen, and the Ryland clan and I wasn't disappointed. The plot twists kept you guessing until the very end.
I have read all of The Lawman of Silver Creek Ranch and love them all. I have read the first six two or three times. I can't seem to get enough of them.
Lucas is the third novel I've read in The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series and there are many other titles in this series, but having now read several of them, I'm noticing that these novels are a bit formulaic--the hero is a Ryland family lawman, strong and protective but a bit chilly when a former lover/one-time sex partner re-enters his life and is in some sort of danger, and for that reason, and the fact that I wasn't terribly fond of either the hero or heroine, I can only give this latest entry in the series a 3-star rating.
Lucas Ryland, is the hero in this novel, a no-nonsense western cop, who has sole custody of his 3-month old son, Camden. Camden's mother, Hailey Darrow, has been in the hospital, her son having been delivered by C-section when she was first brought in because she was comatose and near term when a car crash nearly killed her and her unborn son. She's actually been conscious for week before letting anyone know, exercising in secret and tampering with her monitoring equipment to do so. When Lucas learns that she's missing from her hospital bed the action in this novel hits the ground running and doesn't let up.
Lucas finds Hailey hiding in the back of his car in the hospital parking lot, and what she wants most is information about her child, and what Lucas wants is an explanation of why she went on the run 3 months ago, a move that nearly got her and her unborn son killed--it was Lucas who found her and got her to the hospital. As it turns out, the Hailey he met and slept with almost a year ago isn't who he thought she was--she's been in the witness protection program, having stolen and hidden incriminating evidence against a former employer, information that sent him to prison. But he's not the only guilty party, and the other guilty party wants that information back and will repeatedly attempt to kidnap Hailey and her son to get it--and that's just for starters.
Lucas is on the case, as is almost every other Ryland relative/lawman in Silver Creek, and there's no shortage of them, but because Hailey had tried to run, Lucas gives her the cold shoulder for most of the novel, which is so action-packed and filled with deadly scenarios and possible perpetrators that's there's no time for romance, nor do Lucas and Hailey seem to want that, until they suddenly do want it. Although Ms. Fossen tries to breathe some life, physical attraction and build some heat between these two characters, when they do finally make it to bed, the scene seemed forced and devoid of any real emotion.
If you like your romantic suspense novels loaded with action and suspense, I can't think of a novel I've read recently with more of both, but for this reader, the romance was practically nonexistent, as was the character development between the two main characters, and there were so many secondary characters, good, bad and otherwise, and the action scenes were so complicated and confusing that I often had to backtrack to remember who was who. While there is an HEA ending of sorts, it too felt incomplete and insincere, which is why I could only give this novel a 3-star rating. As I mentioned in my review of an earlier title in this series, I wholeheartedly recommend starting this series from the very beginning, because the cast of Ryland relatives and their inter-relationships is so large and complicated, it should come with a scorecard.
Each series by the author has a certain theme. The theme of this series is an ex with a baby running from a killer. The hero is a lawman, either sheriff, deputy, marshal, Texas Ranger, or FBI agent. The men are all related, either cousins or brothers. The heroine is a former lover. She shows up with a killer after her. She is either pregnant, or has the hero's baby, or another baby that is related. The hero then swears to protect her and the baby even though he is angry with the heroine and wants nothing to do with her. But, of course in the end they come together. That is the plot for every book in this series according to the blurbs for each book. There needs to be a little more originality.
This book seemed to be a lot more violent than the other books I have read by the author. It reminded me of the TV shows and movies that a lot of men like. Cars/SUVs were being shot up or blown up. Almost every time Hailey and Lucas left a building they were shot at. Lucas' house had tear gas shot at it. Of course, all of the brothers and cousins come to their aid. With all of the mayhem going on, Hailey and Lucas made it through without being shot.
I bought an anthology of this book, Lucas, and Drury. The strange thing is that Lucas was first in the anthology but comes after Drury in the series. I guess it doesn't matter as the books are stand alone. At least it doesn't have a continuing mystery as several of the author's series do.
I found the book to be just a little unbelievable. I did not care for it, though I have liked some of the author's other books.
I will attempt to read Drury as I already have it. After reading the blurb for Drury, it is not much different plot wise than Lucas. I have no interest in reading the other books in the series.
Once more, Delores Fossen has wowed me with her writing. This novel was just as superb as the rest of her books. I can't resist a sexy cowboy and a stubborn heroine. Together they both must go through the danger and risks of losing those they love. Right away, my heart was melting. I felt the characters' emotions. Anger, loss, fear, and pent up frustration. The heat was at the all time high. Their passion leaves them with a child. I especially, loved how the lawman aka cowboy was just as stubborn as the heroine. Their lust and attraction was intense. Lucas by Delores Fossen was exciting to read. Action, suspense, and a brewing romance.
Inside Lucas, I meet the cowboy who had his way with Hailey. Hailey has their child and is running from something dangerous. But then complications came tumbling her way. Once again leading her back to Lucas. Lucas is struggling with his emotions. He wants his child to be safe as well as the mother. However, the woman is sparking new feelings that don't just include protectiveness. His heart is on the line. It was fun watching the lawman fight to keep his son safe. A tough and sexy man whose finger is wrapped around an infant's made me go weak for him. Sweet, engaging, and a beautiful told story. Delores Fossen has created another brilliant plot. Instantly, I was swept up into the characters and their situations. Overall, I highly recommend this new novel to all.
If you like WITSEC stories as much as I do, you won't want to miss this romantic suspense.

You will enjoy the romantic chemistry, the suspense and the conclusion in Lucas (The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch #12).
Texas Lawman Lucas Ryland had no idea why Hailey Darrow dropped him after their night of passion until he discovered her unconscious in a wrecked car with a fake ID and enough cash to disappear with. But he will soon learn that she was trying to escape while pregnant with his child. Now she lays in a hospital in a coma.
After being in a coma for months and giving birth Hailey awakens from the coma knowing that she is still in danger. Her attempt at escaping are at a stand still when Lucas stops her. Lucas will learn the reasons for her attempt at leaving and will do everything he can to protect her and reunite her with their son. It will be a battle to the end when there are forces from every side trying to kill them. Along with the threats are some deep unresolved feelings that will resurface.
Hailey and Lucas shared a past, now that she is out of her coma, he finds out that she is missing from the hospital. Once he gets the call that she is missing he heads to the hospital and she hides in his truck.
From this point on you will be at the edge of your seat and you won't want to put the book down. I read it in one day because I just could not stop.
A woman on the run, a baby in danger and a man that wants to protect them. Lots of twist and turns. Kept me guessing til the end. I really liked this story and recommend it.
Won this book through a GoodReads Giveaway. Interesting read and definitely held my attention in the Hailey & Lucas saga. I did enjoy the novel and would read the other books in the series after reading this one.
