At age twenty-nine, Charlie Cooper’s life is not exactly a hit. Working as a precinct secretary at the Boston Police answering phones, making appointments and writing up crime reports means she might not be on the fast track to her ultimate dream job.

And her living situation? She is the proud inhabitant of the most minuscule “master suite” she can afford to pay, where she can brush her teeth, get her clothes out of the dresser drawer and turn on the hallway light without getting out of bed.

But when a job opportunity arises, she’s ready to take the bull by the horns and prove she is more than just a fast typist. Sure, she has to bite the bullet by returning to her hometown and living with her wacky family, but this is only the cover for her real assignment: finding clues involving a real big drug case.

What starts out to be just harmless snooping turns into a pile of dead bodies, slashed tires and threatening notes. But Charlie is determined to solve the case and catch the killer before he catches her.

Throw in two fearless waitresses and a hot fry cook who is not what he seems and you’ve got the perfect mix of a fast-paced and exciting mystery.

Hard to buy into the story.

Overall this was a cute story, great progression, funny and would make me want to read the next however, it is hard to believe that a chief would send a secretary on an under cover mission. It ruined the story for me. It would have been more believable that she was on vacation at home and became tangled up into the case some how.

I hate to give this one star, but I must

Ok. These cozy mysteries are rarely realistic. That’s the point isn’t it? But this author butchered the concept.

She actually isn’t terrible with dialogue. The story was predictable but aren’t they all. No, I have two gripes. The first is that the author paced the story poorly. Nonsense details were added to make people seem more interesting while other areas, which could have used more meat, were sorely lacking. Rookie mistake, but I don’t see how anyone would publish this as is.

My second gripe is more serious. The story was utter shite. This involves a secretary of a police force that is tasked with returning to her home town to snoop around. That would NEVER happen. Then, this secretary doesn’t involve herself with the local PD or check in with the other detective assigned to the case. The whole time, she thinks she will get promoted to detective, ignoring the very GOOGLE-able fact that you need to make it through the police academy and pass a test before you can become a detective. The entire story was filled with these errors.

I fully understand that cozy mysteries are escapist and silly, but this author didn’t respect the genre enough to google basic facts. I just can’t support that level of laziness

2.5 stars - it was okay.

This is a "cozy mystery" so if you enjoy those types of books, you may enjoy this one. I picked it up because I was looking for a quick lighthearted read. What captured my interest was the idea of a heroine who had a very boring life, no real friends to mention, and a goal of obtaining a life by age 30. How the story played out was a bit of a let down. I expected the heroine to be a bit more competent and that is where I lost my enjoyment of the book.

Not a bad book, but easily forgettable.

Awkward with a hint of humor

So I really enjoy a humorous mystery with a girl who is a bit insecure. What I don't care for is a complete clutz who stumbles over herself constantly, especially over a cute guy. I would really like to see Charlie step into her own and make a name for herself.

Actual Stars 3.75-4.

I wasn't sure what to expect because Jammed is a Kindle Unlimited Book and I'm the type to judge a book by its cover, and the cover really wasn't very appealing to me. But that's why they have that saying, because it turned out I actually really liked the book.

Charlie is a Klutzy Boston PD Secretary turned amateur detective with a thing for all things sweets, especially cookies and an uncanny knack for tripping on just about anything including air. Charlie is sent to Springston by her Chief to do a little digging to uncover any information related to a drug ring that may be located in her hometown. She is not looking forward to a visit home with her kooky family. Her mother is always trying to read her aura and do sage cleanses, her father is the life of the party always just a little too boisterous and her brother Brad is a homebody couch potato who is devoted to the TV.
Once Charlie gets to town she decides to hang out at her fathers dinner to see if she can pick up any information about what's going on in her childhood town. As Charlie's "investigation" progresses she picks up 2 very interesting waitresses (Marge and Celeste) as friends and a big crush on Alex the fry cook. All three become part of Charlie's support for her mission to find the bad guys. And it only adds more laughter and mayhem as Charlie try's to solve the big case and get a promotion and a little recognition.

I think my favorite character was Marge. She came across as a lovable gal who was good to her friends but who had a flip side of her that turned into Dirty Harry and drove like someone who should have their license revoked. I liked Celeste a lot too with her calm as ice attitude even when being chased by a midget undertaker with a shotgun she pretty much kept her cool. And the MC Charlie was pretty endearing she was pretty meek for the most part but then she would have this moments where she got a backbone and turned into a semi ninja. I'm hoping she'll become something along the lines of Stephanie Plum as the series progresses and have a little more heart. The only thing that I thought could change was that she spoke like she was still a teenager at times, especially when interacting with Alex, when she supposed to be 29. It was really hard to read and not cringe at her vocabulary.

But overall this was a fast, fun and easy to read book. I definitely will read future Charlie Cooper Mysteries. I am looking forward to seeing what other messes the dynamic trio will get themselves into. And what other love interests Charlie will acquire.

This was such a fun book! I've been trying to read some of the books I've had on my TBR for a couple of years, and I'm getting around to reading some new to me authors and new to me series that way. I absolutely loved this unlikely group of amateur sleuths. Charlie had gone back to her hometown as a civilian undercover for a case that the Boston police, her employer, was working. The waitresses she made friends with were so hilarious and were some great best friend material. The cute cop wasn't so bad either! ;)

I had no idea who was behind any of the crimes and was completely surprised at the end. The showdown was amazing! I don't want to say too much due to spoilers but I know one thing, and that's that I can't wait to read the next book!

Charlie Cooper is an aimless 29-year-old precinct secretary to the Boston Police Department. “What does it mean that the highlights of your workday are a cookie and the chance to slip out early? It means that your life is not exactly a hit. It means you might not be on the fast track to your ultimate dream job.”

One particularly dreary day, Charlie’s boss calls her in and sends her off on an assignment to her hometown of Springston to do some undercover intelligence gathering on a drug ring. She’s accompanied by a Boston detective who pats her on the head a lot and generally dismisses her existence. She’s determined to gather some good intelligence and do her boss proud.

Mixed opinions on this one. In the no category, I was bothered by the idea of a police supervisor sending an untrained civilian employee into a dangerous situation (hello, liability?). And I initially found Charlie kind of annoying. On the plus side, her internal dialogue is entertaining, and there was something endearing about her that made me want to see her succeed. The secondary characters (the two waitresses at her father’s diner that seem to know more about police work than she does, the hot fry cook with a lot of knowledge about the underside of Springston, and Charlie’s wacky family) were actually more interesting to me than Charlie.

The plot was a little pat (random civilian and some wacky sidekicks solve a crime the police can’t), but the writing was decent, and the ending was a surprise. Would I read this again? No. It was moderately entertaining for the treadmill, but there wasn’t much that would make me want to revisit Springston. Will I read more in the series? Possibly, at least the second book, to see what happens to Charlie and the really interesting wacky bffs, and to see if Charlie returns to her unsatisfying safe life, or takes a step in a different direction.

MY REVIEW
A cute cozy mystery with a few comical characters to add to the story. This was a good mystery with just the right touch of humor. A nice story to pass the time away, grab a copy and enjoy.

This is a lot like the Charlotte Gibson stories by Jasmine Webb, so much so I wondered if one author copied the idea from the other in both series: a late twenty’s sassy, low self esteem girl whose life is not going as planned ; each main character is a “Charley”; a crazy Mother; and two older women who befriend the “Charley” in each book. There is also the handsome, yet annoying cop in each series that each Charley dreams about, yet each Charley and corresponding cop trade barbs continually.

Personally, I think Jasmine Webb’s characters are more interesting and well developed of the two authors. Of course, I started this book at 2:30am trying to unwind after an EMT call when my mind just needed to relax, so my judgement may not be as fair as I would like. I’ll let you know when I finish the second book in this series.

DNF at 16%.

The narrator has an adorable voice, hence the two stars.

The problem is this is supposed to be a cozy mystery for adults, but the tone is too juvenile. I feel like I'm reading something written by a 9th grader. A talented 9th grader, but, sorry, I need a voice that actually sounds 29 (as is the age of the protagonist).

An example: "Those tequila shots are awesome, but they make them really strong at the Clam Chowder Festival." It's a shot. How the heck do you make that strong? You pour it from the bottle straight into the shot glass. It seems like a 'grown-up' would know that.

Furthermore, no town would ever have a festival on a weekday. It just doesn't happen. People work 8-5 jobs.

Another inconsistency: The author deliberately gives Springston a small-town vibe (Ma & Pop shops, weekly festivals, salon-type gossip), yet the population is stated as over 40,000 people. Does the author not realize this falls within the range of a large town?

Oh, and the fact that the Chief of the Boston PD sends a secretary on an undercover job with no training...? *sighs*

When too much of a novel rests on faulty premises, it loses entertainment value for intelligent readers who expect better than that. Bummer because with a few tweaks and more research, this has the potential to be a cute story with a lovable protagonist.

Did not enjoy this & only just managed to finish it. I won’t be reading the rest of the series. The characters were annoying, the plot was unrealistic, and the characters’s reactions to some situations were unbelievable. The dialogue seemed very juvenile.

This book seems like a wannabe. And, seriously, does anyone really say "craptastic cookie crumbles" or "holy waffle on a stick"? If so, maybe they should be the murder victim.

Charlie Cooper is a geeky police secretary—a bookworm with a fetish for chocolate and cookies. Right away, she warms your heart with her self-deprecating humor.

“I was not a people person. I was a Netflix person. A paperback mystery girl.” (LOC 362)

When her boss, the police captain, assigns her to go undercover to catch a drug dealer in her hometown, she’s floored. An undercover spy? Why her? She’s just a secretary. Of course, her first instinct was to reject it, but when the gig came with a pay increase, she was in no position to refuse.

So, back home she goes. Does she have a plan to this whole thing? Would she know what to do if things got rough? Hell no. But she’s sure going to try. Like Sandra Bullock, Charlie Cooper is cute, spunky, and klunky.

I loved hearing about her disastrous date with the boring, talkative clarinet player doofus, who wouldn’t shut up and worked in a jam factory. Loved her little comments throughout.

It’s a good thing she teamed up with two brassy, sassy waitresses from her father’s diner. They were two funny broads with a no-nonsense attitude, karate skills, and guns.

I enjoyed the bulk of the story, but the ending was a little too quick for my liking. But, overall, a good read.

A great start to a cozy mystery series!
Charlie is a secretary in the Chicago Police Department and dissatisfied with her life. When presented with an opportunity to work with an undercover officer sent to her hometown to investigate a drug ring, she jumps at the chance. Celeste and Marge are waitresses at her father’s diner. Soon after meeting them, Charlie wishes she had a BFF relationship like the one Celeste and Marge share. It isn’t long until she gets her wish. Celeste and Marge overhear snippets of a confidential conversation about the case and invite themselves in as partners to help Charlie solve her case after the murder of her undercover partner. Soon they become a trio of best friends and the adventure begins!
I must not forget to mention the handsome and sexy local undercover cop that pops up like a “whack-a-mole” wherever Charlie goes. What is his problem?
I won’t share any spoilers, but I will say that these three girls can get into more hilarious, albeit dangerous, situations than you can imagine. This story kept me guessing until the end. Grab a copy of this book and get ready to experience an entertaining mystery!
I can hardly wait to read the next story in this series.

Charlie Cooper is not your everyday, average detective. In fact, she’s not a detective at all. She’s a 29-year-old, underpaid precinct secretary working for the Boston PD, with a ton of bills, a ratty car, and a nonexistent love life. Then, her boss asks her to go back to her hometown of Springston and snoop about to see if she can find out how her small town is tied up with a major Boston drug case.
Back home, she has to deal with her nutty family, a couple of wacky sidekicks, and a drop-dead-gorgeous undercover Springston cop who gets on her nerves—oh, and with someone who is trying to kill her.
Jammed by Deany Ray is a deliriously funny mystery with a wacky main character that you will fall in love with. Like war, which is hours of boredom interrupted occasionally by seconds of chaos and panic, this book is pages and pages of wackiness and humor, broken up with a few pages here and there of spine-tingling action.
If you like a laugh along with your mystery, give this one a try.

Great, if improbable little cozy mystery

Such a good clean fun read to take you away from the every day. Highly improbable scenarios but it is fiction after all. Charlie, a secretary for the Boston police, is sent to her home town in an undercover operation to see if she can find out any information about a drug trafficking ring. (Honestly, would police really send an untrained secretary??) She befriends two ladies working in her father's diner and the three of them set about finding the drug dealers. The fry cook, handsome but arrogant Alex turns out to be an undercover cop, yet the ladies find leads he doesn't??? Like I said - highly improbable, but fun, especially when Charlie is a klutz and Alex always seems to be rescuing her.
As long as you don't take this too seriously, it is an enjoyable read, even if it does make you roll your eyes at times. Great quirky characters too.

Another wonderful Cozy Mystery

Charlie Cooper goes back to her home town to see if she can hear any information regarding a drug ring. She's a secretary at a police Department in Boston. Her chief knows she likes to snoop around & try to solve the murders they've had so he send an officer with her to make sure she doesn't get in trouble.
She meets Marge & Celeste who work at her father's diner. The twists & turns are amazing. He officer that went with her to watch her gets killed, so she's adamant to solve this drug ring now. Along comes Alex working undercover. You know she's interested, but won't admit it.
These three women are hilarious how they decide to work together & solve th crime.
Very funny & entertaining. A very well written story that pulls you in. Loved it!

Charlie Cooper is living in Boston, but her life is not exactly going like she wanted. At 29, she is still a receptionist at the Police department, writing about the crimes. When her boss calls in the office one day, he wants her to go undercover to help bring at a drug ring, in her hometown. Charlie agrees and drives back home.

Her father owns the local diner and there she meets up with the 2 fun loving waitress, Marge and Celeste..What do these three have in common, crime solving! Also, not to bad for the eyes, Alex is the cook whom Charlie just might fall in love with. But, wait a minute, he's a cop!

This was an easy read and very enjoyable book. It was the kind that is just right for a rainy day to bring sunshine in!

Ok, this book made my Saturday afternoon - night a huge marathon of laughs, facepalms and thinking about the excess of innocence, cluelessness, and some ineptitude from the main character and the occurences of her new friends.

The book was a quick reading, but the plot sometimes seemed a yo-yo with its excess of ups and downs; however, the plot twists (specially at the end) make a sort of life savers. The characters gave me mixed feelings; I found some of them a little infuriating at the same time that I fell in love with others. Some of them, specially the main character, need to have a little more development, something I hope to see in the following books.

Despite these points, the reading made my Saturday relaxing. Hope to read more of Charlie and her friends in a future.

Charlotte Cooper, the quiet unassuming secretary (with a degree from junior college in medieval studies) in a Boston police office is asked to unofficially go under cover back in her home town of Springston, MA. Where there is a possible connection to a drug ring. Within 24 hours of arriving in town she receives a note to return to Boston or she will be sorry. So Charlotte, with the help of Celeste and Marge, two waitresses from her father's diner, (along with an overprotective short order cook that always shows up just as things are getting a little too dangerous for the Charlotte), sets out to solve the drug ring problem in their town.

Undercover Police Secretary

If you needed someone to go look for a drug connection in their hometown would you pick a secretary, even if she typed reports, answered calls and compiled statistics on crimes? She knew the area and the other Boston detective that went undercover didn’t so her boss thought she might have useful information to add to the case. The trained professional is killed quickly and Charlie has to make do with 2 waitresses as partners. Now who will solve the case, local police or the amateur detectives?

I could not finish this book. There were too many times the reader had to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy it (and I understand that in this genre of cozy mystery it's almost always required). Also, I felt like there were a lot of inconsistencies, for example, the fact that the protagonist grew up in this supposedly small town, but doesn't know anyone that lives there except her family. That at least would have added some more depth to the plot and background story. I really tried to like this as I enjoy a good cozy, but just could not continue after just over half the book.

I enjoyed this cute cozy mystery, mostly because of the main character, the cute but klutzy Charlie (Charlotte) Cooper. Her job writing reports for the police station is interesting but not absorbing, her aspirations are minimal, her family members are each uniquely crazy. The plot takes her back to her hometown where she is drawn into a bigger mystery than she expected, with lurking dangers, and two new crazy friends to help her solve it.

Note: If the inclusion of language bothers you (basic stuff, no f-bombs) you may want to pass this up, but the story and characters are cute.

Charlie is a secretary for the Boston police. The captain asks her to go back to her hometown sort of undercover and listen for news in their case. Not that he even tells her what the case is.

So Charlie goes and soon ends up knee deep in hijinx. She makes friends with two waitresses who work for her Dad. Together they start kicking butt and taking names.

Also their is a hot guy named Alex who is under cover police at the diner as well. I could never quite trust what was going on with him.

If you like cozy mysteries and crazy girl friend adventures then you should give this book a try.
