Here's a menagerie of animals and birds to be found in the world's great works of art--if only you look! With its rich variety of artists from around the world and throughout the centuries, this is a treasure of a book for every member of the family to pore over and enjoy. "Brilliant, beautiful, and fun."--Kirkus Reviews.
Too simple for me. Doesn't indicate sizes of works, and is mostly much older work. Still probably fun for the littles, especially if the educator has patience and asks the children what they see 'hidden' in each work. Could also be inspirational for a real-life trip to a museum, or to play the game in another art book from the library.
Some pieces were about the 'hidden' object and in others the object was so hidden it took me a very long time to find it. My favorite is the mouse in Jan van Os' *Fruit and Flowers in a Terracotta Vase.*
Even though this isn't my favorite, I will continue to look through/read every Micklethwait that my library has and encourage you to do the same... these should not be weeded.
I feel that this could have been done much better. Some choices were good, but others were way too obvious. You have a picture called "The Virgin with the Rabbit" and you want me to find the rabbit? Really? It's front and center - why not one of the sheep? It also doesn't follow up on anything. You look, you find, you turn the page. Some other questions or information would have been a lot more useful.
I bought this book at a yard sale when last summer when Catherine and I spent a morning going to yard sales. I love children's books that incorporate real art.
