Is It Getting Steamy In Here?

Andi O Rourke is a fire chief and a darned good one -- one of only a handful of women in the U.S. to make it. Raised in a family of firefighters, she s a natural, barking out orders and keeping her guys safe at the same time; and her big, tough guys respect her, treating her just like one of them. Away from her job, though, Andi doesn t have a clue how to handle herself with men. That s why arson investigator Tucker Fields is so dangerous -- and so tempting. Tucker is no slap-you-on-the-back kind of guy; he s all man. A man who makes Andi feel sexy, alive, desired...

Or Is It Just Us?

Tucker likes what he sees in Andi. He loves her passion. Her strength. That sizzling sexuality she tries to hide. He sees the ribbing she takes from the guys if she even puts on lipstick. To prove herself in a man s world, Andi has had to fight being a woman. But she s not the only one who knows how to give orders. As they spend days and nights on his investigation, Tucker s determined to start a fire of a different kind, releasing Andi s every inhibition and enticing her into losing all control as he shows her just how delicious being a woman can be -- and how good love can feel...

Tuck is a very naughty boy, "she walked to the credenza and bent over to open one of the doors. She had the kind of hips that made a man's hands tingle wondering what they'd feel like in his hands. She straightened and caught him staring. He shrugged. He was attracted to her and wasn't even going to pretend he wasn't. Everything about her turned him on." He doesn't beat around the bush, he's not one to hold his thoughts, "that I can't get you off my mind. That one damned kiss is still replaying in my mind. I'm so hard I could come with just the thought of your mouth on mine again." He can sometimes be caveman-ish, "he kissed between her breasts, turning his head from side to side, scraping her with the stubble on his jaw. "I want to leave my mark all over your body." The boy is a natural born cuddler, "you can be very sweet," he said, tracing his fingertips down her back. He cupped her rump and shifted underneath her so that the tip of his erection nestled between her legs." I enjoyed reading this book, and I loved Tuck.

Body Heat by Katherine Garbera
C+, inferno, no kink, contemp, 384 pages

Andi is one of the rare female fire chiefs. She grew up in a household of men and learned quickly that to get ahead in her chosen line of work she would need to hide any part that made her seem womanly. Tucker is an arson investigator, content to never be settled in one place. And it seems that Tucker is the only man that sees Andi as a woman, rather than just a competent fire chief.

This one was a refreshing break for me. There's no villian, no scheming, no conflict, no suspense. It was simply the story of Andi and Tucker learning to push past the things that have limited them in the past. And there is a passion between the two of them that was a joy to read.

If you're looking for a light-hearted, but heart felt romance, this is the one.

Raised in an all male household, full of firefighters, Andrea O’Rourke’s career path was always clear. She felt it was essential she be seen as just ‘one of the guys’. She felt it was necessary to gain the respect of her co-workers and maintain a reasonable level of professionalism. This made it very difficult for her to establish personal relationships; especially intimates ones. But that all changed the moment arson investigator, Tucker Fields, entered her office. He instantly penetrated her façade; exposing her feminine side.
“She just wasn’t a girly girl. She’d always known it. Growing up with her four brothers and a strict father had reinforced that. But unless she missed her guess, Tucker Fields had noticed she was a woman.”
Katherine Garbera’s writing style was remarkable. I enjoyed the method she used that allowed Andi to feel vulnerable, sexy, and desired without undermining her strength.

Tuck loves his nomad ways and is unwilling to put down roots for a woman.
“He took a deep breath. He needed to tell her about his past, needed to make her understand that when he hurt her it wasn’t because of anything she did—that it was all him, because of the choices he’d made for his life.”
He is an incredible character. I was mesmerized by his attraction to Andi. The author pulled all the best Alpha male traits together to create Tuck. His ability to anticipate her wants/needs is impeccable.

I assigned this book a 3 due mainly to the imbalance of romance and suspense. The arson investigation was barely mentioned; it appeared only to bring the main characters together. This was the first book by Katherine Garbera I read – up next is In The Heat Of The Night , Rory O’Roarke’s story.

This review also appears on Harlequin Junkie.

Mmmmmm Smokin' Hot Firefighters. You can't go wrong there. Body Heat by Katherine Garbera is a re-release from 2006 but is still one hot story. A very hot but not overly erotic story. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read.

The O'Roarkes series starts with the only girl in the family, Andi, well she's not really the girlie girl type as the Fire Chief of her own station, a task very few woman have actually accomplished she's tough as nails. The O'Roarkes are all firefighters, their dad wouldn't have it any way. But being the only girl in the family she had the toughest time especially with no mother and her fathers strict way of raising her like one of the boys. Practiced at hiding her emotions and trying to get the guys to forget she's a woman she is thrown for a loop when Tucker Fields comes into her life and blows all that to pieces.

There to investigate a series of fires, arson investigator Tucker Fields isn't looking for anything permanent and the fact that Andi isn't either is a perfect ideal for them both. An undeniable attraction and a connection between them it's easily decided that while he was there they would spend that time together and easily stop when he leaves. Andi has issues outside of work she has no idea how to deal with men, and Tucker is afraid of repeating his father's mistakes and leaving his loved ones behind.

It is a good story about people who aren't really damaged just really stubborn and set in their own ways and scared to take the step toward any kind of commitment. The attraction, the lust is instant but the love grows between them grows with time the short time they spend together they realize they are perfect for each other but neither are willing to bend and give in to the other. The drama going on with Andi's best friends keeps getting in the way and the investigations emanate closure is looming closer. Can two stubborn people give in a little and realize they are meant to be together?

Andrea O'Roarke is a strong, confident woman who is successful in her chosen profession. She is a firefighter and Captain of her own squad. She doesn't need a man to complete her or so she thinks until she meets arson investigator, Tucker Fields. Their attraction is as hot as any five-alarm fire, but what happens when their hearts become involved? Both have insecurities and fears that drive them. Can they let love and commitment in their lives? I enjoyed this book. The sexual chemistry between Andi and Tucker is so intense. I love the snappy dialogue as well as the tenderness and passion that Tucker showers on Andi. The plot is well written and filled with characters that I cared about. I want them to find their happiness. The story of Mick and Sara tugged at my heart. It was so emotional. Once I started reading Body Heat, I was hooked. I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait for more stories with the O'Roarkes and their friends. This book is a keeper. I love the writing of Katherine Garbera and I never miss one of her stories. She writes with such heart.

3 stars - Contemporary Romance

Quite honestly, the best thing about this book is the steamy cover. The firefighter on the front might give off some serious "Body Heat", but the story itself is rather tame. It's basically about a female fire chief who has to constantly prove herself in a male dominated profession and with her own father and brothers and the sexy arson investigator who brings out her vulnerabilities and makes her feel more like a woman. It's a light, quick, romantic read, but based on the cover, I was hoping for a bit more heat.

This book really disappointed me. Andi O'Roark comes from a family of firefighting men. She's managed to become a fire chief in her own right. But she really doesn't know how to be a woman. She meets Tucker Fields when he comes to investigate a series of arson fires. This book had the possibility to be a really good story. Instead it just glosses over everything but the sex between them. You know Tucker is investigating but not details. It just doesn't go in depth into anything at all except the sex.

Sweet and Strong wanting nothing more than to live up to other family expectations. Without losing a little bit of herself.
Andi was exactly that. I was surprised that this author put a woman into such a strong role. Chief of a fire house isn't a tipocal place a woman ends up. Kudos!
And I gotta say...Tucker is a smooth mover. Knows what he wants and goes for it.
I'd have liked a little more suspense.
Sometimes the "should I or shouldn't I" got a little tiresome.
A good read

Starting out this book had some potential, I mean just look at the cover! But.... it started lacking. There were so many twists and confusion that I wasn't sure if the characters were upset, getting together, leaving etc. Also almost missed the who dunnit with the arsonists. Started out fine but lacked a lot of writing yet it had too much filler.

I enjoyed Body Heat! It wasn't what I was expecting. Tamer than I thought it would be but thats fine. A good read! I liked that the main character, Andi, is a female fire chief! Definitely a little different from what you normally find. And I loved Tuck! He was great! A nice little read about two people falling in love!

I enjoyed this book it was a fun read. The thing that was funny though was the guy wasn't a fireman? Leave it to the publishing company to put on a cover that will sell...not the authors fault. But it was good.

Not my kind of book.

I can't say I enjoyed the book, it just wasn't what I thought it would be. I thought it would have more fire fighting in it and less sex. I am not a prude by any means I just wanted more story and less of the two main characters doing each other.

So-so - and a heroine in her 40s who can still do 100+ chin ups is WAY too intimidating for a mouse potato like me!
