Aisling Grimlock is living a charmed life … kind of. Things are going well for Michigan’s favorite grim reaper, though. She’s moving in with her boyfriend Griffin Taylor, her best friend Jerry is doing his best not to melt down and her back-from-the-dead mother doesn’t appear to be munching on the unsuspecting populace. Er, well, maybe. All of that changes when another reaping family goes missing and Aisling and her merry band of family and friends are tossed into the middle of a mystery that will have long-lasting repercussions. When one member of the reaping family shows up hurt and needing help, Aisling makes it her mission to discover what happened to the girl’s family even as she tries to keep the people she loves most safe. In the end, Aisling will uncover a dark secret … and it may lead back to her own family thanks to her mother’s unwholesome escapades. Will Aisling survive to protect those she loves most? Or will she fall prey to an enemy she never saw coming?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
4.5 Stars... The story continues to unfold and more mystery surrounds the Grimlock family... All answers seem to connect to the assumed death and disappearance of Lily Grimlock; her sudden reappearance continues to shift suspicion on her and the role she plays in relation to wraiths and the disappearance of a reaper family... As Aisling, Griffin, and the Grimlock men attempt to unravel this mystery, many more questions arise as to the true nature and intentions of Lily Grimlock and what her ultimate plan may be for Aisling's future... An entertaining read that keeps a steady balance between humor and mystery.:)
I enjoy this series! It's clever and flows quickly. The reintroduction of characters and plots is a little annoying now that I'm 5 books in but still reading all of them. I understand why it's necessary in case someone picks up one of the books to check it out, but do people really start a series in the middle?
Possibly my favourite instalment so far. Aisling shows her more petty and most mature sides all at once here and she manages to express wisdom and have fun at the expense of others all at the same time. The family dynamic really zings off the page and as ever Aisling finds herself at the head of things, all the while proving to her family that she is as strong as the rest of them. Wonderful shenanigans with Griffin as they move in together and his place in the family is cementing. Dark and heart warming all at the same time.
I had...issues with this one. Maybe it’s bc I just discovered the series and I’m reading one right after another. Maybe I should take a break between them.
It’s getting difficult to root for/want to continue reading books about a heroine that has not one shred of self preservation or self-esteem. Seriously.
The bantering between the Grimlock kids is funny most of the time but as I’m reading, it seems years of 4 older brothers going after their younger sister with snark and calling her stupid (too stupid to live) has made her an insecure smart mouth. She mouths off to mask her lack of faith in herself.
Throw in that she doesn’t actually seem bothered by her near death experiences and can’t seem to comprehend how much her death would destroy Griffin and her family and it’s getting a little tedious.
And every. single. book. we have to have Aisling being reassured by Griffin that he doesn’t want to leave her. It’s ridiculous but the author just keeps doing it. Again, no self-esteem. The only thing she believes she excels at is having a smart mouth.
It’s sad. I’ve wanted to see Aisling grow. I was hoping midway through the series that she would show SOME growth. It hasn’t happened. I’m not sure it will.
I love Lee's books and this series is a blast. Unfortunately at this point though the whole drama with the mom is starting to get old and I'm losing some respect for Aisling's dad which makes reading the series harder. I'm going to postpone reading books 6 and 7 until the last couple books in the series are out and I'm hoping to rekindle my love for all the characters.
Love the characters. The series is a good one. The only negative in this book to me was the constant stream of conversation between the characters, it seemed like a filler to me. I love the laughter this author brings. Read and enjoy.
I wanted to like these and finish the series but I'm going to bail after book 5. The main character is very unlikeable. A grim reaper, the only girl in a family of all men, she plays the "tomboy" role to a hilt. She can't stand other women, fights everyone, uses the "you're such a girl" insult and constantly makes stupid decisions. In five books she's shown no character growth. Everyone else is also a walking stereotype with no depth. The flamboyantly gay best friend who is a cook and cake decorators, the meathead women chasing boyfriends, etc. This books was just not for me AT ALL. I appreciate the author making them available on Kindle Unlimited so am giving three stars because it was cheap and had a story line. Just not one I liked.
I never seem to have a bad thing to say about this series. I love this author and so far all of her series that I have read so far. This one is no exception, Aisling is a great character and her family are just as well written as she is. I love the interactions between her and jerry and ? angeleka, I always forget her name. And the love story is cute but of course frustrating at times. I am on to book 6. This book involves another family that has gone missing and of course someone I am not going to spoil it if you have not read the series yet keeps on showing up and bothering her. And of course she keeps getting herself in trouple. lol
I like the book but the story of the family a. The bossy cop is close to the witches of the Midwest. I feel there is something wrong if the books Amanda Lee writs is about family's fighting so often an how the cops in both books and very bossy an demanding. The way the are constantly talking about sex an being all over each other in front of family is weird! How normal is that? Why are they always fighting in both books?? The words an phrases are exactly the same. I understand the books have different plots but the way they go around them is the same!!!
Being a role model isn't something she ever thought she would be
And they're back! Fantastic. The moving in together is going well. Well as well as can be expected with withdrawal symptoms on both sides. However a curve ball arrives with a young teenager. Her family is missing, she is being hunted and is on the run. Can Ais and the others find out what actually happened. Great action packed plot with great interactions between all the characters. A delight and pleasure to read as it has sarcasm, snark, humour all wrapped up in a terrific plot.
Great series! Aisling is still suspicious of her mother. But when a reaper family appears to be killed except for teen Serena, Aisling and the Grimlock family try to hunt down the supposed killers. Griffin & Aisling move in together but Jerry is going through withdrawal. If you don't understand this, you need to read the Grimlock series. Snarky and sweet, this series is an hilarious delight.
I have come to love Aisling and her family and of course, Griffin and Jerry! Thanks to, Amanda Lee's fabulous insight to her characters and her way of directing a film with her words. I have greatly enjoyed and very much look forward to the next saga of Aisling and Griffin and the Grimlock family!!! It will be difficult for me when this series ends. I hate to see the end of any of Amanda's series!!!
What I enjoyed: * The family is fun to read about as usual as their banter is fun * Serena was a fun addition * Still not sure what to make of the mom and hope all is revealed soon
What could be better: * Aisling needs more self confidence. She still seems worried Griffin will leave her and I think that lack of confidence is why she still gets in physical fights with Angelina (which is ridiculous at their age) * Needed more Jerry and Aidan
Aisling Grimlock and her gay best friend, hot boyfriend, hot brothers, and long suffering father are always fun to read about and this book doesn't disappoint. With her wise cracks and snarky humor, another mystery finds Aisling and she steps up to solve it with the help of her hot boyfriend, hot brothers and long suffering father.
Cannot get over how Amanda M. Lee pulls you into each and every characters life and make it feel like you have always been there. This is just another great story well worth the read. If I am ever in trouble, with my family by my side; I would want someone like Aisling on my side fighting to find me.
Aisling and Griffin finally move in together and Jerry has fluctuating panic attacks about the new living situation. Everyone is still on the fence whether back from the dead mom is evil or merely trying her best. Meanwhile a whole family disappears and things get tense when the clues start to add up.
If you are into this series and are about to read book number 5 I think you will like it. Big steps in the relationships of all the characters. The main story plot once again gets wrapped up in the last five pages with a lot of what is going to happen next left unfinished. I do want some cookies now.
It's just amazing how these stories just suck you in. There's so many things happening, twists and turns, never knowing what's going on next; I just can't stop reading until I know how it's going to resolve and everyone's ok, so, my perspective is = great stories, great series, please keep them coming, thank you Amanda.
Excellent read this family and their friends are so loving and funny that you want to join them and such crazy happenings occur. Can't wait to see where Griffin and Aisling's romance goes loved it
Unputdownable,I have enjoyed every one of them i think i will be reading them all, when I do get to the last one and I have finished it I'll probably read them again and be very very sad.
I am loving this series and I only finished book 2. Can't wait to read more. I laugh and cry when reading these and that's what I love in a book. When I feel like I'm in the book then that's what I love about books and what I look for in a book.
The Grimlocks are tasked with finding out what happened when another reaper family vanish. A mystery girl pops up and begins following Aisling and the Wraiths and Gargoyles are amassing.
The Grimlock family together try to find a missing reaper family and fight off gargoyle attacks. A very fun book to read. Griffin can be a little needy, otherwise a good fifth book in the series.
Wonderful characters with humorous wit. I laughed out loud at some of the dialogue. The story plot moves quickly and keeps you ready for the next turn of events.
The Grimlocks are a family of Reapers who collect the souls of the dead and send them on to their rewards. Their workload is heavy as another Reaper family has disappeared. Along with A idling as boyfriend Griffin they search for the missing family
