Awry (The Archers of Avalon #2)
by Chelsea Fine (Goodreads Author)
Sometimes love is meant to be. But sometimes love...is the death of you....

Seventeen-year-old Scarlet has just died. Only, dying isn't unusual for a girl under a centuries old curse that left her semi-immortal.

This time, though, she comes back to her current life instead of awaking in a new one, and she realizes the curse is changing. Together with the immortal Archer brothers, Scarlet must piece together her life and try to break the curse before her impending death comes again

So, at the end of Anew, I was all:
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING TO HAPPEN!?
I can't wait that long!

I'm missing Tristan!

Thank goodness! She's going back to the same life! God, I wouldn't be able to stand her finding them and getting to know Gabriel again. (no offense, Gab. Your just not Tristan)

Anyway, THE COVER!

I love it. The guy has green eyes, yo! Why are authors using my weakness against me? Love them green eyes...*sigh* that's Tristan...my lovely, sexy Tristan. *faints*

Review :

Holy mosey immortal hotness...
I loved loved loved loved loved loved Awry.

I had so many emotions while reading this. Here's some of the faces I might have made...
I'm sure you can guess who the finger is to...Don't worry, not you. :)

Scarlett dies and then comes back, in the same time with the same memories she unlocked in Anew...minus one that was never revealed...one that's extremely important. WHERE THE FOUNTAIN IS! *face palm* The curse needs to be broken! ASAP! I don't know how much more of the sexual tension between Tristan and Scarlet I can take. I'm ready to burst!

And I discovered how much I cant STAND Gabriel. So, I want Scarlet to be free of him.

Here's why:

Tristan is so selfless and amazing. I am in love with his immortal hotness. I loved the flashbacks of him when he was a lighter, freer spirit. One flashbacks in particular is my favorite and that's the one that reveals just how close Scarlet and Tristan got in the last life. Boy, that was hot. I also loved the flash back that explains his hot tattoo. So freaking sweet.

The model for Tristan on the cover: http://www.modelmayhem.com/portfolio/...

Nate and Heather are also characters I care for a lot. They are hilarious. Two characters I would love to spend a Friday night with. I would let Heather dress me and we both would make cracks to Nate about his awesome geekiness. *sigh* Fun.

We're left with another cliffhanger...but scarlet is back and tougher.
I cant wait to see what she can do. I'm all for this badass real Scarlet.

To start off...my ideal Archer brothers would look like this:

And yes, I'm aware that these are in fact, Jack and Finn, but a girl can dream :D

So Scarlet's all, "Pffft, no! I don't have feelings for Tristan!" *averts gaze* "What...what on Earth are you babbling about?!"

So basically this book was torture. The girl's got amnesia. Everyone's out to kill her. The curse gets worse. Her love life's in ruins. Plus, we as the reader, have to choose between two amazingly talented, sweet and gorgeous guys. I mean, can't we just have both?!

As for Tristan...the 'Hot N Cold' act gets on my nerves, until his green eyes melt into hers and he looks at her like he could never look away because his heart, his dreams and everything he is, belongs to her...*sighs*

And the evil guy (or gal in this case) sends ASHMEN after them. Zombies. Seriously? Do we have to go so old school? Why not a nice assassin, or a hit man or something that links with this whole 'hunting and chivalry' era. Oh, no - by all means find strange flowers and cast spells to raise the dead. Go right ahead, don't mind me!

Also, Nate needs to attend a few classes. One being "WHEN PEOPLE ARE HAVING A CUTE FANGIRL-WORTHY MOMENT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND EVERYTHING SACRED IN THIS WORLD DO NOT INTERRUPT THEM YOU GODDAMN IDIOT!" But no, he's all "No touching!", "Distance!", "Do I need to put you two in those big plastic bubbles?"

Review complete...I am now off to hunt down the next book so as to fangirl a little bit more.
There's no such thing as too much fangirling.
Or reading.
Or Tristan. :D

*5 Star-crossed Stars*

Scarlet inhaled as she looked into his soft eyes and deep dimples. He smelled like leather and water. “I think," she said quietly, now that their mouths were close to each other, “that easy and clean love is not true. It is simply convenient. Messy love, though…that is something to revel in.”

My thoughts are a jumbled mess and I am giant ball of giddiness. I can’t say this story had as good of an ending as the first (The first had an epic ending), but it did a better job of showing us peril throughout. Oftentimes authors tend to rely on cheesy dialogue and unrealistic situations to get them through a complete trilogy, but Chelsea Fine handled this second book with a grace unlike many other unmentionables do today. Sure, there was some repetitiveness and I would sooner punch Gabriel in the face than to have his grimey paws all over our dear Scarlet…..but that is neither here nor there. I loved this story, and I loved it despite these flaws.

She licked her lips. Tasting Gabriel. Feeling Tristan.
The three of them made a tragic triangle.

Probably my favorite thing about this story, aside from Tristan and Scarlet’s uber hot and forbidden relationship, was the flashback aspect of this story. Now, that is usually my least favorite part of a story, but in Scar and Tristan’s profound and utterly overwhelming journey, I think it added an intricate layer of heartbreak and desperation, loyalty and young love, and, ultimately, the foundation to one of the most beautiful and tear-inducing tragedies of, you guessed it, a star-crossed love that I have ever seen. It’s not about a clichéd back plot or the recycling of old ideas in a new story, it’s how it was executed. Execution is key if we are to care about what comes of these two romantically robbed teens. I’ve seen it happen time and again where there is a tragic story line that is literally above and beyond epic proportions…only to be floundered by poor execution. I do wish some things would have happened and that certain scenes had been extended, but overall, Fine created a flawless portrayal of desperation and impossible-but-all-consuming love, and that in itself is execution enough. And, guess what, I cared when Tristan cried in agony and I cared when Tristan’s heart was broken for the hundredth time…I just, simply, cared.

Slowly pulling back, Tristan murmured, “Is it okay if I love you?”
Scarlet tried to catch her breath as she looked into his beautiful eyes. “Only if it is okay that I love you back.”

Tristan. What a beautiful, broken boy. I must admit, I adored him over the ever-present Gabriel in book one with just a single dark look and the clench of a jaw…so sue me, I might be a tad easy. But in this book? My heart and soul shattered into a million tiny pieces as we learned the truth of what happened in the past. No detail was skimped on and no stolen moment was passed over. We learned how everyone met and what led to the death and betrayal of all our beloved-and not so beloved-immortal characters. I can’t say what I want to say, not really, but what I can say is this: If Tristan hadn’t won me over in book one, he certainly would have with these flashbacks. Every look, every touch, every ache and pain and grievance of the soul…it crushed me. Now, and don’t get me wrong, every moment from the past was absolute perfection, my favorite re-telling was the origin of the tattoo. How it came to be, what it represented, and why it meant so much to our dear Tristan. I loved it, and I likely won’t forget what it meant to him in every life any time soon.

His eyes blazed into her and he slammed the door closed. “First of all,” he said angrily, “I couldn’t stop loving you even if I tried. And I’ve tried.” He shook his head and laughed without humor, his hands balling into fists. “God, how I’ve tried. But I am completely lost to you. I am lost and empty and broken-“
“My heart is broken too-“
“My heart is not broken, Scar. My heart is dead!” His eyes were hopeless and wild. “It is a hollow black object that sits in my chest without purpose, haunting me with memories.”

Heather is back and zany as ever, along with the rest of (I swore I wouldn’t bring it up) Team Awesome. Ah, yes, they have a team name, did ya know that? Well, now ya do. And this is precisely why this series gives me the warm fuzzies on top of a heaping pile of angst-Fine can write literally the funniest conversations without making them completely over-the-top or cheesy. They are just short enough and they cut off just perfectly before they become redundant or rendered useless. They all banter and bicker, accuse and deflect, grouse and project, but they always make me laugh…and I really, really need that right now. It’s perfectly light but has just enough mystery, action, and emotional turmoil to keep me on my toes, and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s making me feel.

”So?” She threw her hands up, her chest tight with frustration. “Loving anyone is dangerous! There’s always going to be something at stake.”
“Your life is not just ‘something’, Scarlet.” He said her full name and Scarlet’s heart broke. “It’s everything.

Sigh. I loved book one. I adored book two. Now, with one book left, I have to face the only book that ever tends to be over-the-top or annoying in a series to me. My friends all don’t understand why I like series to just…end…at book three. Why is that, they ask? Well, I’ll tell you why. I fall in love with books one and two in a trilogy, only to wait a year or however long for the impending wrap-up of said series that I do so cherish, only to be disappointed by the lackadaisical explanation of why everything is the way it is and what they are going to do about it. So, when I think of a series an author is debating on drawing out or finishing snugly at book three, I’ll always root for the trilogy. There’s a point where the line needs to be drawn-the heroine can only be rescued so many times, the hero can only be dark and mysterious for so long, the newly found relationship can only lead to complacency for me as a reader after such a long build-up, and we can only expect so much. So, after that long-winded affair I will wrap it up neatly: redundancy isn’t key, and I only hope this is all wrapped up as beautifully as I know it can be….that’s all I can ask.

Scarlet exhaled through her nose as she looked back at Kristy. “She’s such a flirt.”
Tristan tucked his lips in. “You don’t like her flirting with me?”
Scarlet looked at him and answered honestly. “No.”
Tristan nodded and looked away. “Kristy is just a girl, Scar.”
“So?”
Looking back at her, Tristan leaned in close and lowered his voice. “She’s not you.”

Anew: Book 1 review

“For all the glamour of living forever … immortality is really just a long curse. Finite life is precious; it’s fleeting and significant. But immortality… immortality isn’t living at all. It’s a permanent existence void of meaning.”

So this gem was light years better than Anew in every way. Though still predictable, it wasn't as taxing as the previous book. The characters are a lot better, more defined with a lot more depth.
She licked her lips. Tasting Gabriel. Feeling Tristan.
The three of them made a tragic triangle.

While I know there are other aspects to this story let's just be honest and say this is the reason most people read this trilogy. It's obvious who Scarlet is going to end up with but that doesn't mean the ride hasn't been awesome. The angst between each of them is so thick, you can cut it with a knife. I loved their interactions together despite its awkwardness and harsh reality. Yes, Gabriel is an ass and Tristan has quite an irritating sacrificial agenda but somehow-don't ask me how- it just meshes to perfection.

How can I not fall in love with that heartache of a man? While I was rooting for him in book one, he hadn't really won me over. I just prefer to get on the winning team. But here? There was absolutely no way I could have resisted his charms. He had me drooling from start to finish, had me aching with his heartbreak and drooling with his sweetness. Tristan is the type of male lead you just can't resist. Not that you'd ever want to, either.

“Gabriel cocked his head to the side. “Is that what happened in her last life too? You just accidentally
touched Scarlet enough to set the lifeforce transition into motion? God! How much touching did you
do?”
Tristan narrowed his eyes. “What do you want, like a scale of one to ten?”

Dear lord, I loved them! For some reason despite fighting continuously and arguing endlessly, these two are a match made in heaven. Through their constant bickering you still see their love for each other, you just have to read in between the lines lol. I found their sarcastic nature brought a dark humor to the story and just the right amount. Had me chuckling more than normal ^_^
“Heather nodded merrily, still clapping. “Yay, I’m part of the team.”
“We’re not a team,” Gabriel said through gritted teeth.
Heather ignored him and looked at Nate. “I think we need a team name.”
“Ooh! Good idea.” Nate pointed a finger into the air. “How about Team Awesome?”
Heather wrinkled her nose. “Too vague. Team Super Secret Fountain Seekers?”
“Too specific.” Nate shook his head. “Team Ash Guy Hunters?”
“Ashman.” Heather shook her head. “Too hard to say.”
Nate scoffed. “And ‘Super Secret Fountain Seekers’ is easy to say?”
Gabriel rolled his eyes.”

And then we have dumb and dumber, aka, Nate and Heather. You are bound to end up cackling with these two. They bring a lightness to the story that was lacking in book 1 and an all around feel good vibe.

In the end, this one was all I hoped it wound be. It had an amazing pace, the story was interesting through out with no boring parts, the characters all brought their A game and the plot thickens to the point where maybe it's not just about a love triangle but about friendship, loyalty, and love.

Have you ever read something so good that you have to reread it 1, 2 or maybe 10 more times before you move on to another book??? Well that is this book!! I am going to be re-reading it already! (and yes it just came out yesterday!) This book was awesome! Much better than book one! Ok, how much do you LOVE Tristan? Because I LOVE him so much! I wanted to scream at his brother you have no right to her, no reason to be upset, she was never yours! I loved reading the story about how they met and fell in love, and how she ended walking down the isle with Tristan's brother. (It did make me like his brother too) However my heart just breaks for Tristan, let me tell you!! I loved the concept of this series!! Well done! This series just got better! I am hooked!!  The next book better be out by the end of the year!!!

This book has made it to one of my top favorites of the year!!

Way better than book one! I liked the flashbacks - we got to see how the three main characters met - the plot was also more captivating, though still predictable. I also came to like all the characters more, not only Tristan. The MC's best friend was much more sympathetic in this one for me. She and Nate made for great comic relief. The book was also way more fun to read. The writing is still bad though, and it's still not exactly original.

“Uh…guys?” Nate’s voice trembled a bit as it echoed across the cellar. “Does anyone else feel like we’re in a scary movie? Perhaps one in which all the main characters die?”
“I’m sure the storm just knocked out the power, that’s all,” Scarlet’s voice said.
“Yeah,” Nate replied. “That’s what all the main characters say right before they die.”
“Nate,” Gabriel said into the blackness, trying not to roll his eyes. “You’re immortal. You can’t die.”
“But I can still feel pain!”
Heather plastered herself to Gabriel’s side, sinking her fingernails into his upper arm. “I’m not immortal. I’m totally killable.” She sucked in a breath as her pitch rose. “And I’m blond. Blonds always die first.”
“That’s true,” Nate said matter-of-factly.

First off, I'd like to share a song...Uhhum...

Hey Chelsea!
Your books? So fine!
They're so fine, they blow my mind.
Hey Chelsea!
Hey, hey! hey Chelsea!

:D
Gabriel: *mumbling* Laaame... even worse than Nate's very lame toy collection...
Me:Gabriel?! Is that you?? *pulls out a bluestone sword* UGH!! I HATE YOU SO!!
*charges* Arrrhh! (<---My battle cry, LOVE YOU NATE)
Gabriel:*screams like a girl and runs away*

Hehe

Anyway back to the review;

OMIGOD! I completely ADORED this book. It was SO SO much better than the first! I devoured this book. Yes DEVOURED! The fact that it didn't face the same fate as many other 'second' books have, proves how amazing Chelsea Fine really is.

Oh, god. This story was beautiful. Beautiful and sad. So so sad. Heartbreaking and shocking. Oh Man and the drama! The tension and the angst! Oh and let's not forget, those unbelievably HOT HOT scenes! Oh Tristan! You have stolen my heart! Twisted and broken it and left me sobbing and aching. God those glimpses of the past?! *shakes head* no words...

Oh and of course the anger. I was fuming at one point, so much so, I felt the urge to go stab Gabriel something. Gosh, he pissed me off BUT yes theres a but, I felt Sorry for him. Felt, yano as in past tense. As in the Gabriel from the past. I understood him. But then I hated him again....its a lost cause....

Even so, this book never failed in making me smile and laugh, oh man Heather and Nate, you two rock! {[hugs]}

In other words it was AMAZING! This is an ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone who has read Anew! And if you haven't, well firstly why the hell are you looking at this review, but mostly I recommend you to go back read Anew just so you can read this!

God, after that cliff-hanger...Ach, Hell! This wait for the next book is gonna be well...hell!

Oh Tristan, I adore you so much. This book has sealed the deal for me. Tristan and Scarlet better end up together. I will die (not literally) if they do not!

Scarlet is immediately brought back to life moments after her death. Something has changed this time. She still doesn’t have her full memory back, but she remembers everything that happened since her last life. Unfortunately, she still doesn’t remember where the fountain of youth is. Thanks for letting everyone hope Scarlet.

I loved the chapters set in the past. They were filled with Tristan, and that made me extremely happy. Tristan has always been the one for Scarlet, not Gabriel. I knew it! Tristan is even more selfless than I originally thought. His love for Scarlett is the purest kind of love. *sigh* I understand that Gabriel’s attitude could be annoying, but I understood how he could be like that. He loved Scarlet, but he wasn’t in love with her. He wanted to be in love with her so bad that he tricked himself into thinking he was, but he’s not. It made me so sad for him.

The ending wasn’t as cliffhanger-y as the first one, but it was as exciting!

My god, Chelsea Fine, you torture us by not releasing Awry now!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?!?!?! If Scarlet admits to loving Tristan, then what happens to Gabriel? More importantly, what happens to Scar since she kind of seemingly died at the end of Anew?!

☆☆☆☆☆ 5 Hello, hunter! stars ☆☆☆☆☆

One minute please -

What a wonderful journey! It's been a long time since I enjoyed a sequel more than the first book. I'm not saying it never happens, but, well, that's pretty rare, you know? When we read a trilogy, beginning the second volume is always filled with fear and followed by tons of existential questions, which we can sum up with this one : Will the sequel ruin or glorify the expectations born in the first book?

Anew ends with a cliffhanger - the kind of cliffhangers I despise the most, you know, those ones which break our silly heart. Those ones which made us be completely eager to continue the adventure.

Well, seems to be a good way to sell your books, I guess. Because it completely works : I literally jumped on Awry - well, almost literally - begging Chelsea Fine silently : Please, please, Tristan's creator, don't disappoint me.

She didn't.

You like messy love, do you?

Because I have to say -

I loved everything. Every. single. part. of. it.

What a memory. What a wonderful, hot, passionate -
Tristan cleared his throat.
Scarlet stopped reminiscing.

Here's my lazy review - Understand : hey guys, I love you but it's 3 a.m here - Real review coming soon ㋡

Where Anew was an amazing introduction to the world of Avalon, Awry just overtakes all the single expectations we could have. Seriously. I'm speechless right now. You loved to follow Scarlet and the Archer's boys? You've seen nothing - and I'm weighing my words here.

Someone needs to fix her." Heather looked around.
"Where's the nerdy, little immortal?

Chelsea Fine offers us two stories here, thanks to the wonderful flashbacks in our protagonists first life, and I must admit : I was passionate about both of them, which is just amazing. I mean, that's the problem we often meet when an author cuts his story in two parts : I often grow bored by one or the other aspect of the story. While here, each page made me want more. More of Scarlet badass. More of Tristan's awesomeness. More of crazy nerd Nate. More of makes-me-laugh-out-loud Heather. Even more of Gabriel, that says it all^^ - well, when I didn't hate him. Sometimes. *shrug*

Dude". Nate stared at the blade. "What is with you always being armed? It's weird. "
"If by 'weird' you mean incredibly convenient, then yeah. It's 'weird'." Tristan wiggled the knife. "Just shut up and take the weapon. And, if you have to use it, no battle cries.

Love. Trust. Choice. Selflessness. Magic.

Annnnd obviously, another cliffangher.

*sigh*

But a good one - Those ones which make us eager to read more, but keep our heart filled with love and wonder ♥

And by the way, Tristan's just entered in my favorite of all times. Yep. I know, wow.

Hey! What better spokeswoman than the only red-haired princess to show you how impatient I am?

Look - eight hours after the end of Anew, I kinda feel still off -

Awry? More Tristan ?? Of course -

I know I totally behave like a little girl but Tristan? ❤❤❤ I can't wait to enjoy more of his moody style^^

"In essence - we're all screwed" . Yeah, that pretty much covers it!!! The action starts straight away, and the story twists and turns, dragging our beloved characters even deeper into the complexity of the supernatural curse that is upon them. And I loved it!

This book picks up immediately at the point of the devastating cliffhanger at the ending of book 1 – Anew– and the emotion poured into the first few chapters is staggering! Two pages into this book and I had tears streaming down my face. Maybe because I’d finished book 1 the night before I started this one, and it was still all very fresh in my mind but… DAMN!

The story quickly moves forward, with Scarlet, Tristan, Gabriel and Nate continuing on with their quest from the first book (avoiding spoilers, so I’m being deliberately vague!). Scarlet's BFF, Heather, once again lightens the situation when Scarlet confides in her what is going on, and she joins in the action, dubbing their little group ‘Team Awesome’ (hahaha – I love that!).

Adding to the intrigue, the story of the past is intermingled along with the present, and pieces of the puzzle start to fall into place as we see what actually happened when Scarlet first met Tristan and Gabriel. This brings a stronger romance storyline into the book, which I really enjoyed – it provides a lot of clarity as to why these characters are the way they are. Plus it’s just really gorgeously swoony!

“Is it okay if I love you?”
… “Only if it is okay that I love you back.”
“Deal”

… and…

“I love you,” he said. “I want you more than life itself. Forever.” He brushed a hand across her cheek. “And I will take care of you always.”

Scarlet’s relationships with Tristan and Gabriel in the present are also changing as she remembers more about her past, and learns more about the supernatural bond that links them together. And as she explores this, there are some major consequences that give the story a massive twist.

The PNR element also becomes even more complex when a new threat emerges, forcing Team Awesome to go all kickass in an action packed climax as everything snowballs into all out (and somewhat weird) chaos, allowing Scarlet to reveal her inner badass. Woohoo! Go, girl power!

I’m still loving this story. The pacing is fantastic, with lots of action happening all the way through. The concept is really original, the characters are sensational, and there is enough humour to balance the sad moments and the unfairness of it all (my heart did break for what these poor characters go through!). The romance storyline is definitely a lot more prominent in this book, but it doesn’t overwhelm the other aspects that make this such an intriguing read.

Yes, there’s another cliffhanger, but it wasn’t quite as bad as the first book, it’s more a promise of things to come, and has definitely left me wanting more!!! Can’t wait for the final instalment!

My BFF: So, how is sequel of Anew? Have you finished it?

Me: Yes, I have. It was so good. Have you read Anew?

My BFF: Why? Do I have to read it A-S-A-P?

Me: Yes, you have too, what are you waiting for? You’ve already had it.

My BFF: Why do you want me to read it A-S-A-P? Yeah, I know you gave Anew 5 stars and it was your first 5 stars for this year so it must be awesome, well....at least for you. And why you won't stop talking about it? Who do you think you are, Oprah?

Me: What do you mean?

My BFF: Well, you know Oprah used to talk her favorite books and she asked people to read it. But she has her own book club so she has a good reason to do that while you have no reason at all.

Me: Of course I have reason The Archer of Avalon series is awesome. I don't want you to be left behind. That's why I keep talking about it.
My BFF: How do you know the series is awesome? You only read 2 of 3 and I don't know whether Awry is good or not. Yeah, you said it was awesome but I need more reasons aside of awesomeness.

Me: You want more reasons? I can give you reasons. So as I said in Anew, this book still has what I love from a book. It is a paranormal romance but it also has humor, a lot of humor and a good one. I love reading about Heather and Nate, her noisy and bubbling even incoherent one, his nerdy. Love their banter. As supporting characters they really have a special place in my heart and they make the story more alive. The story itself was so good. What happen to Archer brothers and Scarlet reveal here. I especially love their past, Chelsea Fine wrote it in flashback but whenever she wrote their past it connected to their present. I mean she didn't just write their past in one chapter then continue to their present in another chapter. She intertwines it. So I can feel the connection between their past and their present. It answer why, when and how from the story.

My BFF: Why you always have questions from the book you read? Oh speaking about question did this book answer your questions from the previous one? I know that you will piss off when you didn't find it hehehe

Me: Why I always have questions? I guess curiosity take the best of me :D

My BFF: curiosity kills the cat

Me: I'm not a cat

My BFF: obviously, maybe we can call you curious Rachmi from now on.

Me: So, I'm not a cat but a monkey now?

My BFF: Hey, it's compliment, you didn't answer my questions by the way.

Me: What questions? Oh....yeah, Awry answered one of my two main questions. It was a good answer actually and made sense to me, I still waiting for an answer for another question though. But I also have one important question from this book. .

My BFF: Hmm....I think you are weird, maybe you miss something from the book because obviously other readers didn't bring it out.

Me: Maybe, I think I have to ask them whether I miss it or not.

My BFF: Ok, how about the main characters, are they still awesome?

Me: Of course they are still awesome and I have more Tristan here :D

My BFF: What about Tristan, I know that he has green eyes, gorgeous face, more gorgeous body, a badass. Basically swoon worthy kind of thing, right? So what's new about him?

Me: Well...he is indeed swoon worthy, I love reading his qualities but what I love most about him is he keeps his words. I think I rarely read male character who true to their words nowadays.

My BFF: What do you mean are you saying most male characters are liar?

Me: No, I didn't mean that. Let me tell you this way. I read a lot about male character who thought that he is dangerous to female character, his love interest. He keep saying that she shouldn't be near him, that he isn't good for her and she have to stay away from him. BUT he do all of those things. He seems can't stay away, keep near her or even sometimes kind of stalk her.

My BFF: Oh I know who you are talking about, my favorite vampire, right?

Me: Yeah and lots of male characters like him. But Tristan is different. When he said to Gabriel to kept Scarlet away from him. He indeed stays away from her. He keeps their distance and even he go away from the story for a few chapters. He is true to his words. That's what I love the most. He doesn't pretend doesn't want or need Scarlet so keep pull her away but keep meet her coincidentally.

My BFF: Ok, I understand your opinion but I still love my vampire. Oh, I remember you said that you can guess what happen with the characters. Are your guess right? It sucks when I can predict the story, you know.

Me: I know I also love unpredictable story. I had 2 guesses after reading Anew, one of it was right but the other was wrong! So this book still has a surprise for me. And it still feels good because I didn't think about it at all.

My BFF: Ok…I get it I think I have more than enough reasons to read this series. So what will you read next?

Me: Are you kidding me? Do you have to ask? Of course my next reading will be Avow.

You know how in some series, the second book can sometimes be a little... meh? It's not like the first where you have the excitement of the first meeting, the chase, the anticipation of finding out what's going on, and it's not like the last one where you get the conclusion and everything is solved. No, the second book in trilogies can be exactly what they are: an in-between where it lacks that initial excitement, and there is no closure.

But, I am VERY happy to say, that Awry proved to be the exception to the rule! I LOVED this book. After the INCREDIBLE cliff-hanger at the end of the first one, I was dying for this book to come out. I needed answers. What was going to happen to Scarlet? She couldn't die. And she certainly couldn't come back as a 15yr old again. That would just be wrong on so many levels. But how it worked out was just right.

Scarlet was a little annoying though. Nearly every chapter in the beginning of the book she would keep thinking to herself "Ugh, I am such a terrible girlfriend!" because she kept thinking about Tristan though she was with Gabriel. I was all like, just end it with him already! He's obviously not the one you want to be with! I breathed a little easy when she finally pulled her head out of her ass.

Gabriel was as mediocre as ever. He's a nice enough guy, but... he just makes me so mad sometimes. I think he only THINKS he's in love with Scarlet. I think he's confusing a close friendship with a passionate love. They were there for each other through a difficult time. What any friend would have done. It was Tristan who was making every effort to save Scarlet. He put himself through incredible pain to try and save her; he attmepted to die for her again and again. Whereas Gabriel was more concerned with keeping her from Tristan because he knows she loves Tristan more and is really meant to be with him then finding a solution to their curse which would solve everything being he would be free to love anyone he wished and Scarlet and Tristan would be free to finally be together. But, in Arwy, when you find out what actually happened, it would sometimes make me think he wasn't as bad as what I thought. But then I would remember one simple fact and that thought is obliterated quick-sticks!

Tristan (ahh, Tristan :)), is still the tortured soul as ever (with good reason). When we first met him in Anew, he was all depressed and gloomy (again, with good reason), but in Awry we got to see the other side to him. The real Tristan. A happy Tristan. When everything was right with the world. And I didn't think it possible, but I fell for him even more. I loved how we got to see Tristan and Scarlet finally interact in a happy and fun way (when Tristan and her were shooting arrows together). It just cemented the fact that they are truly each others soul mate.

The ending was superb! It wasn't quite the cliff-hanger as what the first one was. When I finished it, I had a smile on my face and it made me extremely excited for the next book! Not that that was ever in question :P And the twist at the end! Wow, I never saw that coming! It was great! So all in all, an awesome "in-between" book and an even more awesome setup for the 3rd and final instalment! :D

Again, well done Ms Fine, well done!

I really liked the fact that eventually there isn't really a love triangle going on ... I mean Gabriel wasn't a threat.at all ... a little.bit annoying.in this book I have to say but he wasn't in the "way" or anything...
and finally !!!! I know what the tattoo means!!!!! veeery satisfying!!!!
basically I liked how you got to know scarlets past and what's the real story behind her relationship with Tristan and Gabriel was!

and now about Gabriel ... and Heather???? ;-) hmmmm me like it!!! idk its really not clear yet but why nooot... they would be perfect together!

well and finally the whole not touching thing sucks but scarlet and Tristan have such a strong connection that eventually it doesnt matter if they're not touching (at least I let myself believe that :-P) plz book 3 !!!! more physical contact wouldn't be bad ! at all!!!

Come on, did any of you really think this book would fall short after reading ANEW? Shame on you if you just said yes…SHAME!

THE ARCHERS OF AVALON series is one of my favorites, for sure! After reading ANEW, book one in the series, I was like a crazed animal in need of food. I scavenged the internet hoping that AWRY would release soon but, I found nothing on the release date for weeks and weeks. Then, BAM here it is and I was able to breathe again! Thankfully the story in AWRY picks up right where ANEW ended, with Scarlet taking a deadly shot from the arrow and dying. With that, we are suddenly thrust back into the swing of things with Tristan and Gabriel, the hot Archer brothers, oh and there is more Nate and Heather too!

Chelsea Fine did an excellent job with this book. She was able to maintain the story and the characters as well as her writing enable you to flawlessly flow from one scene to the next. That is one of the things I love most about her, each time you move from one section to the next in her books, there is no jumble or lost thought, it just moves seamlessly. With a plot line like Scarlet’s you totally need that too. The ever changing life(s) and the unraveling of the curse totally build up in this book. Keeping you constant attention, total nail biter! Every time you think you have it figured out, something new happens and suddenly you feel like your back at square one! But fear not, *sigh* the beautiful Archer Brothers, Tristan and Gabriel, put up a dang good fight for Scarlet throughout the book. And, oh there is some super steamy moments for….I’m not going to tell you….it would ruin it, but, just be prepared!

Lastly, in true Chelsea Fine fashion, we are left again…wondering…waiting…with a Giant Cliffhanger! So, until the next book…enjoy!

5 STARS!!! Ms. Fine did it again! I could not put this one down. Chelsea, please tell me there is going to be a third book. The physical (and sexual) tension between Tristan and Scarlet was amazing and left me wanting more. The book ends with a HUGE cliffhanger that begs for more of their story! I'm dying to know what happens with Gabriel, Heather, Nate, and, of course, Tristan and Scarlet.

**Spoilers if you haven't read Anew**

The last two sentences in Awry have me ecstatic for the final book. I feel as though I should be jumping around my house, fist pumping the air. Seriously. No, seriously. I loved every single thing about this book. The dialogue is witty and hysterical. The characters quirks and strengths make them that much more lovable or loathable. And the element of having star-crossed lovers? Oh, this was done perfectly. Tristan and Scarlet broke me over and over again and yet somehow, I still have hope for their future. Please let there be hope for their future.

Stars filled the December night sky, peeking through the tall forest trees, and moonlight cast a soft glow against Scarlet’s cheek, making her look peaceful, healthy.
The moonlight lied.

The beginning of this book is gut wrenching. Scarlet is dying in Tristan’s arms. It was supposed to be him, not her. But after Scarlet dies, something strange happens. Her body doesn’t disappear and they don’t have to wait years or decades for her to materialize again. She just comes back to life. While everyone is struggling with trying to figure out why the curse is changing, they make a decision to go into seeker mode. They are determined to hunt for the Fountain of Youth to break the curse and to keep Tristan from trying to kill himself again.

He placed a gentle finger below her chin and tilted her head up. “My care is not wasted. You are the best part of my day and what I look forward to when I’m gone.”
Scarlet looked into his eyes. “If you continue coming here, you are a fool.”
He smiled again. “Then call me a fool.”

There’s a different element in this book that didn’t exist in the first and oh wow, it made me fall even more in love with Tristan. We get to travel back in time and watch Scarlet, Tristan and Gabriel’s lives unfold. Sometimes flashbacks can be awkward and detach you from the story. But these were done seamlessly. I never knew if I wanted to stay in the past or come back to the present, because both stories were alluring. The only thing I did know was that I was desperate for a solution for Scarlet and Tristan’s current angst. Because nothing is right in the world until Hunter can be with his Scar again.

Tristan was utter perfection in this book. We get to see the dark brooding Tristan and the Tristan that is thoughtful, caring and butterfly inducing. He is so selfless, honest, loyal, persistent, sweet, charming and breathtakingly beautiful. Now don’t get me wrong, I love dark brooding Tristan, but his other side made me weak in the knees. I now understand why Scarlet feels such a strong connection to him. And I couldn’t help but tumble even deeper into love with him as each piece of the puzzle came into play.

“I think,” she said quietly, now that their mouths were close to each other, “that easy and clean love is not true. It is simply convenient. Messy love, though…that is something to revel in.”

Scarlet was even better in Awry. Scarlett is so darn stubborn, but her stubbornness helped her persevere again and again. And while we get to learn about her past, we get a glimpse into a Scarlett that is truly remarkable. She is strong, brave and is a fighter through and through. She is definitely becoming one of my favorite heroines.

Scarlet was Gabriel’s one ray of light, one beam of hope.
And Tristan had taken her away from him.
He was always taking her from him.

Gabe is still righteous. How can one person be so obsessed with always knowing what is best for others? I understand it and maybe I’m being a little harsh, because in the flashbacks we get to see a beautiful side of Gabe. His actions were honorable and technically speaking it should have made me a fan of Gabe. But I’m stubborn, so maybe I’ll like him a little more in the 3rd book. Also, we get to see even more of Heather and Nate. They are both hysterical and I enjoyed every single moment they were in the book. You always knew that they were going to make you smile and laugh.

Heather plastered herself to Gabriel’s side, sinking her fingernails into his upper arm. “I’m not immortal. I’m totally killable.” She sucked in a breath as her pitch rose. “And I’m blond. Blonds always die first.”
"That’s true,” Nate said matter of factly.
Heather made a freaked-out squeaky noise. “I don’t want to die.”

I loved every single thing about Awry. I can’t wait to see how their journey proceeds and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a Tristan and Scarlett happily ever after!

*6,7,8 freakin'stars"

Okay guys... Remember how much I loved "Anew"? Well, it was NOTHING compared that how I feel about "Awry" because THIS second book was purely awesome. Seriously, it moved me by so many ways that I don't even know where to start to talk about it...

And after this ending? Let me tell you I am a mess... I almost call my boss saying I was sick in order to read the third book straight away... It wouldn't be rational, right ? Right. I guess...

Since "Awry" is a sequel, I can't talk to much about the plot, which is bad because there actually would be a lot to say. Chelsea Fine manages to increase her story in a masterful way thanks to several well-written flashbacks. I absolutely adored the way she offered us Gabriel's, Tristan's and Scarlet's stories in 1500s. Everything comes together and we finally understand the relationship between the three of them. So, you did guess that I've been highly convinced by all the author's ideas. I've been warned but I must admit I didn't expect so much awesomeness in this book.

Having settled the plot's issue, I can now freely rambling about the characters. Because if there is something I want to talk about, it is how much Scarlet and Tristan touched my heart. These two are the worst cursed peoples I've ever read about. Yet, I enjoyed their twisted relationship so much that I begin to wonder if I am truly sane.

First stop: Scarlet. In my previous review I was telling you I didn't know what to think about her. I found her quite great but I had trouble to encompass her. “Awry” provides me the opportunity to discover an amazing heroin. I was right to think, since Scarlet has lost her memory, she wasn't truly herself; and I must recognize the "1500s-complete-brain" Scarlet is absolutely wonderful. She is smart, strong-minded, skilled and definitely able to take care of herself. Besides she owns a perfect sharped tongue. Need I tell you how much I love girls who have capacity for forthright repartee? So, I tell you, I love it!

Next up: Tristan. *CAREFUL, Fan-Girling Time, who want to join me ?*
Tristan was already swoon-worthy in the first book but there he is so hot that I can't find my words. It's now a fact: I totally worship Chelsea Fine, just because she is Tristan's creator, I couldn't thank her enough... She unveils his past and the least we can say that she spares nothing to her character. Tristan breaks my heart so many times in this book that I always wanted hug him, kiss him, make babies with him... Okay I'm becoming weird at this point since he is a fictional character... but still... I'm definitely in love with that "hot-tattooed-archer-hunter-broken" boy. Seriously, if I can't, Scarlet should definitely make him babies... Need proof? HERE the perfect quote :

I think you've guessed I'm totally Team Tristan and I do not want Scarlet ends up with Gabriel. Even if I know now why and how they were engaged in a relationship, I can't even begin to believe in their love.

Nonetheless I must admit my appreciation of Gabriel grows up with this book. Still, Gabe is certainly fine but far from flawless and he clearly can't take the comparison with his brother. Being honest, I really loved him in 1500s but not so much in present time. He is now selfish and truly mean with Tristan who deserves in my opinion, a lot more respect for the way he reacts accordingly to the circumstances... Seriously, somebody has to tell Gabriel he has no right over Scarlet; she's not his, never was...
In fact, I totally picture Gabriel with Heather; she is totally the kind of girl he needed... A girl who made him laugh, and Heather do that perfectly *fingers crossed*

To conclude, I'm not sure this review make any sense and reflects how much I loved this book but never mind... I NEEEEEEEEEEED to begin “Avow”. Right. Now. So, See you soon with the last installment! (*Whisper* Hey Chelsea, you’d better not disappoint me and PSSST I want more Tristan!)

PS: Sorry, I just realize I haven't say a word about Nate, the nerdy-third-immortal guys. Promise, I will tell you everything about him next time!

Edit (October 2014): Buddy read with these really amazing girls: Chelsea, Anna, Elena, Jen, Portia, Harriet and Maria. ♥

“For all the glamour of living forever … immortality is really just a long curse. Finite life is precious; it’s fleeting and significant. But immortality… immortality isn’t living at all. It’s a permanent existence void of meaning.”

So, in my review of Anew I said that the story had potential. Lots of potential. I was right. I liked Anew but I totally loved Awry! It was still so much better! And since I enjoyed it so much, I decided to just make a list about all the things I loved:

- The flashbacks: I loved reading about how Tristan and Scarlet met! They. Are. Adorable.

- The secret about Scarlet's past: It was killing me. Actually, it still is. I need to read Avow.

- The heroine: I actually loved the heroine, which honestly doesn't happen very often in young adult books. Usually they annoy me to no end and I feel like hitting them for how stupid they are or for the dumb decisions they make. But Scarlet was actually very likable and didn't make me feel any of the above. And she really surprised me when she Made me like her even more than I already did.

- TRISTAN! I don't think I need to say much. I loved him. *swoon*

- Nate: One of the funniest characters ever! I adored him. He was just the sweetest. And he loves Zelda! Nerdy immortal. Just Awesome. “You are not a samurai, Nate. You’re a medically-savvy immortal with Star Wars bed sheets.”

- Heather: She was amazing!

- The action: There was way more of it than in the first book!

- The humour! 'Nuff said

“Nate called out, “Team Meeting!” and pointed a finger in the air.
When he had everyone’s attention, Nate cleared his throat. “There are a few Team Awesome things we need to discuss.”
Tristan leaned over to Gabriel. “What’s Team Awesome?”
“It’s our team name,” Heather smiled.
“We’re not a team,” Gabriel said.
“We are a team,” Nate corrected. “We’re Team Awesome and I’m team captain.” He looked at Tristan. “You can call me Captain. Or Captain America, if you’d like. I’m even willing to settle for Captain Jack.”
Tristan crossed his arms. “Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”
Heather’s eyes lit up. “Ooh! Can we choose code names? Can I be Catwoman?”
“We’re not choosing code names.” Gabriel looked incredibly annoyed and Tristan almost smiled.”
.

The only thing that really annoyed me was how Gabriel behaved. He was kind of selfish and I wanted to hit him more than a few times for how he treated Tristan. Especially in the beginning. But towards the end, I began to understand him a little. And I ceased to dislike him as much.

“They needed a plan. And manpower.
They needed Tristan” - The best and truest things Gabriel ever thought.

The love-triangle surprisingly didn't bother me. Usually they do, but not this one! Good job, Chelsea Fine! Awry is definitely worth rereading.

O.M.G, O.M.G, O.M.G,

There probably just aren't words to describe how much I love this series. I read Anew and loved it, and I told myself to pace out Awry so that December wouldn't feel so far away... or that the wait would not kill me like an arrow laced with immortal blood... which it completely is, BTW (in the words of Heather).

Okay, first, the writing and twists are incredible. I. am. the. world's. worst. predicter. I predict endings and who-dun-its like its a life or death situation for myself, and in Awry? I just didn't see it coming. I mean I narrowed down the who-dun-it or as it should be called, who-is-modern-day-Raven? But still, the smaller twists I didn't see coming. But more importantly, its the characters that draw you in. I feel for them, love them, and sit anxiously reading to know more of Scarlet's frustrating story.

And by Scarlet's frustrating story, I really mean, Scarlet-Tristian-and-Gabriel's frustrating story, because they really all got ---- well, this is for young adults so I'll keep it PG, but the tangled weaves crazy witches and devious fathers weave for their children.

Oh and speaking of crazy witches and devious fathers? I hate Cornelius with every fiber of my being. I wish I hated Raven as much, but somehow, like Scarlet says, she just seems crazy to me.

Ohhh, Ana. Your heart was in the right place, but you should have trusted your daughter to fend for herself and definitely not the same earl who lets his people starve and suffer to death.

Anyway, I love both the Archer boys, but I still have love for Tristan. His eyes blazed into her and he slammed the door closed. "First of all," he said angrily, "I couldn't stop loving you even if I tried. And I've tried." He shook his head and laughed without humor, his hands balling into fists. "God, how I've tried. But I am completely lost to you. I am lost and empty and broken-"

"I want you more than my next breath."
"Then stop pushing me away!"
He looked defeated and broken as he yelled. "I can't have you, Scar!"
"Too bad!" Scarlet yelled back, a tear escaping her eye as she looked up at him, their faces less than an inch apart. "I'm already yours! I was yours in the forest and I'm yours right here-"
Then his mouth was on hers like wildfire, spreading with reckless abandon against her lips.

And how can you not love Nate? "What? Nate shrugged. "Death by dragon? Awesome. Death by rapid forest squirrel? Not cool, man. Not cool."

So before I go rambling on somemore, just take two minutes and download it from Amazon or N&B. It's pretty much a favorite of 2012... possibly the favorite.

OMG…OMG…OMG…as Heather would say! I loved this book! Ms. Fine has done it again. But this time she’s done it with information and history instead of the mystery and suspense of the first book. How is that possible? Well, I think it’s possible because the characters are still captivating, the premise is still intriguing and the emotions are still intense!

The characters I fell in love with in Anew are better than ever in Awry. Scarlet is becoming stronger, more focused and the hero this story needs. Gabriel and Tristan are more heartbreaking and swoon-worthy than ever as they continue to live under the curse’s hold. And, might I add that the curse seems to be evolving…making itself even more troublesome, especially for Tristan who suffers more than he should…and, oh, how my poor heart suffers with him! Secondary characters, Heather and Nate have a bigger role here too. We learn so much more about them and what makes them tick. And I appreciate their humor because it gives my heart a reprieve from the aforementioned suffering! I find myself wanting them to find happiness as well. Go Team Awesome!!

This story gave me the history I’ve been waiting for. Finally, I know how Scarlet met the Archer brothers and how she came to be involved with both of them. It is tragically beautiful, but, I’m also thankful that it shows us some happy times! It provides the reader with a glimpse into a simpler time in their lives and into a Tristan we haven’t seen before…a happy, generous, light-hearted Tristan. *sigh*

Because of the twists and turns in this book, it’s very difficult to write a spoiler free review. But I must say that this does not feel like a “second book”. In some cases, middle books can feel aimless…simply filling in the necessary information to allow the next book to shine. This is definitely not the case here. This book has adventure, romance and heart-felt emotion. It provides answers and leaves us with new mysteries. And, without question, it shines! I’m not sure how Ms. Fine will top this book but I, for one, can hardly wait to get my hands on the next installment!!

*REVIEW CAN ALSO BE FOUND AT WWW.THEREADIACS.COM*

The story picks up right where Anew left off. Scarlett has “died” but before she does, she tells Tristan she knows where the Fountain of Youth is. Say what?! Of course, nothing is ever easy, so when she wakes up- still in her current life- she has no memory of where it might be. And thus, we start the cycle over again.

Things are different this time around, however. Not only can Tristan feel Scarlett, now she can feel him. So what happened in her past life to make things different this go round? That was a question I had in the last book and Awry doesn’t disappoint in revealing what happened. Every question I had in the first book was answered in this one. Of course, that just means a whole new can of questions opened up.

Back to Scarlet, she is still dating Gabriel. “Fierce Jaguar” as Heather- the still crazy BFF who is now apart of Team Awesome (her name for their group) calls him. But, emotions inside of Scarlet that she can’t help but have, hinder her from really being with him. Imagine if you were kissing your boyfriend only to feel what his twin brother is feeling? Ewww, gross. Then again, when the brothers are as hot as the Archers…

With all of that being said, I’m officially proclaiming myself-

TEAM TRISTAN!

There’s something so beautiful about the tragic, moody boy isn’t there? My heart hurt for him so many times during this book when I thought about all he had gone through.

Awry takes you from the present to the past, allowing you to understand how the trio came to be. The sacrifices each of them made that led them to where they are now.

The zany cast of characters is back with a wonderful mix of laughter, heartbreak, romance that could be deadly, Ashmen, and a villain you may or may not have seen coming.
