It's been two years since the lion roared ... the eagle flew ... and the fated Celtic warrior embraced her destiny. Now, with an unknown darkness swirling and the body count rising, Gainesboro needs a hero more than ever. A new battle is brewing. Who will answer the call to war? The time has come. The stage is set. And, the Garretts are back in a brand new novella!
I have been wanting this for a long time, longer than I even knew I wanted it. And it was worth the wait! Descent is a visit back to our friends in the Gryphon series, but from the sexy pirate we all love’s point of view, Rowan, that rascal! Less than a year after we left them, and Celeste in a delusioned bliss, living the college life…. and falling in love with the wrong guy…. Or the right guy, tomato tomato. But in typical Garrett fashion, trouble is upon them. Rowan must find a way to protect Celeste and keep her memory intact, or fake intact, so he doesn’t lose her and the love he has found himself lost in. We get to visit with a lot of familiar faces, and I forgot how hilarious they all were! Two words…. Glee Club! Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastical and hilarious, true to Rourke form read. But don’t be fooled, our dear author has a dark side and is about to crush us all! I laughed so hard I cried and about pee’d my pants, I gasped in shock, and blushed from Celeste being a naughty little minx, but I also cried, HARD! Twice. You have been warned. I need Inferno, like yesterday!
WOW....I was completely shocked by the outcome of this book, which of course, has left me dangling with another cliffhanger. I say this all in a good way though. The author has once again sucked me into this remarkable world of adventure that she has created and left me craving more, and of course leaving me open to questions. This author has a knack for keeping us in suspense until next book comes out and makes us ask questions of WHY?....The characters in the story are still awesome and the story-line kept me turning each page with the need to know more. Now, I hunger to find out where this author will take us next on this wild adventure. I devoured this book in twelve hours, because it was that good that I just couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this story to others to enjoy as much if not more than I did. Caution: If you have not read the first 4, you maybe lost.
I absolutely love the cover of this book! I had to think about this one for a bit before actually writing the review... The book was intense, flowed fast but ended too quickly with another big cliff-hanger. I just can’t decide how I felt about the story, I waffle between horror at what Rowan went & did, & shock at how he’s changed since he first met Celeste in book 1, to sadness over the loss of a life & how the memory wipe at the end of book 4 played out in this book. I wasn’t expecting this book to go in this direction, so it was a bit of a shock. I still see some snarky humor, which helps lighten the heavy load just a little bit. I’m torn that the HEA for Celeste hasn’t happened yet. I’m not sure that the memory wipe really gave her a normalcy in her life that was intended by it. I like Rowan, but I still felt Caleb was a better fit.
I want more!! My favorite bad boy, book boyfriend is back and I adore him even more than before. I'm so happy to have more of this series even if it is just a little taste. The writing in this book is excellent and the characters are still great even though they are a wee bit different. I don't want to spoil anything but there were tears at the end. Like sobbing, ugly cry tears. I want so much more!! I'm hoping there will be a full length book in the future. Pretty, please with sugar on top.
I am so excited the Garretts are back. I'm even more excited to see the pirate and the Irishman.
Of course, it isn't that easy is it? Rowan... (sigh). This guy just can't make up his mind on which team he's batting for... good or evil. Damn, pirate.
The ending will leave you thinking WTH. No..... not my pirate. Ok. Maybe that's just me, but really you will be speechless.
Set aside some uninterrupted me time. You will read Descent front to back without stopping. I guarantee it.
Like a man thirsty for water and the first drops of rain touch his lips I was dying of thirst for this book and now I have to find out everything that's going on in the next book this book completely threw me for a loop I was not expecting anything in this book to have happened
Celeste is finally living a normal life but it is all a lie. Great book. I can’t really say much about it or I would give too many spoilers. You have to read this book.
Once again Stacey delivered! I was a little confused at the beginning (it had been years since I read the other books in the series) but quickly fell into the story. And Good gracious that ending, my only complaint is that this was way too short!
This is the fifth book in the Gryphon Series. I absolutely loved it!
Rowan Wade is a fascinating character. I wasn't sure about Rowan when I first met him in Embrace, but I fell in love with him in Sacrifice. He's a bit of a rogue, an ex-member of the Dark Army and an ex-pirate. He hides a softer side that he very rarely shows.
Descent is a short novella that I wish had been a little longer. It felt like I had just started reading it when it ended. However, having said that, I found myself completely emersed in the story, which is told through the eyes of Rowan. We get to meet the Garrett family again, as well as the Dark Army Glee Club. We also get to meet Caleb (Celeste's ex and Rowan's best friend) again. This Irishman makes a welcome return to the series.
Celeste and Rowan are studying at the Gainesboro University when there are a series of mysterious attacks. In an effort to stop Celeste remembering her Conduit past, Rowan begins to investigate. What he finds will rock the readers to the core. I know it shocked me, I was left stunned and in emotional turmoil. There are several twists and turns that I didn't see coming, though Rowan does something rather noble that made me love him more whilst breaking my heart. I will not say much more, because that would be a huge spoiler. Suffice it to say, I reached the end completely shell shocked and devastated. I am now looking forward to reading the next book, Inferno, which is due to be released in December 2016, to find out what happens next.
Stacey Rourke has written a fantastic YA series. I absolutely love her writing style, which is fast paced and witty, and the story flows wonderfully. This author has the amazing ability to draw you into a story, make you love the characters and then rip your heart out, leave a bleeding mess where it once resided then leave you begging for more; I hate this about her, but I also love her for it too! I am a huge fan of this author and will read anything she writes in the future.
I HIGHLY recommend this book (and series) if you love witty, sarcastic YA Romances filled with an array of various magical and mystical beings, namely lions, angels, gnomes, dragons, centaurs, demons and (of course!) Gryphons! - Lynn Worton
Stacey Rourke brings us yet another must read! I am literally in denial right now. So many emotions going through my mind. Once again Rourke has blown me out of the water & I never saw it coming! My heart is breaking at this moment. UGHHHHHHH! This series has been one of my very favorites. To say I was looking forward to this release is a huge understatement. The characters are full of spunk, personality, & have me laughing like no others regardless of the intense scenes they are portraying for us. Descent was no different. Everything we've come to love about the Gryphon Series is very present in this book except for the tiny part where the Garretts know of their powers, their destiny, & the otherworldly things still very much happening all around them. I could not stop giggling between swooning over our beloved pirate & then the long lost Irish man I adore so! And just when I am completely torn between who I had envisioned Celeste with & what I imagined her to be doing this whole time...this ending swooped in like a tornado on a path we could not foresee. Just so you know...It is killing me not to scream what happened for all to hear, but I'm no fan of spoiling anyone's read so you will have to read it for yourself. It is absolutely worth it!!!! Just prepare yourself for a ginormous plot twist, & rejoice in knowing we will be reunited with the Garretts (& friends) once again very soon. This fall to be exact! I will be squirming relentlessly until I get my hands on Inferno!!
Wowzers!!! We are back again with Celeste and her crew. Now let me say I love this cover it stands out a lot more. In this story we are seeing Celeste as just a normal woman who is in college but this time she is in college with Rowan or favorite pirate!!!! Everyone has had their memory wiped so Celeste doesn't remember that she is The Conduit and Rowan seems to be okay with that even though he knows it is wrong. A pirate with a conscience what is up with that. As much as we see that Rowan wants to protect her it seems that there is something evil at play and it is up to Rowan to stop it. For his sacrifice he actually won my heart I just hope that the dark side doesn't pull to him too bad. He also runs into our Irish-man and we get to see how that goes! Where this story left off you know that something has to come about with it all and we can just hope that Celeste will remember enough to want to fight back against the evil that lurks around before it is too late. There is so much to say but I feel I would give it all away as this novella is short. I can honestly say if you are looking for humor than look no further than Grams and the family, along with the small bit of action that comes along it makes for one heck of a ride. If you haven't read the first book I highly recommend you start the series there before jumping into book five as this can not be read as a stand alone.
If you are a fan of the Gryphon Series, this novella is a cruel, yet wonderful tease. It’s just what that crazy, funny Dr. Rourke ordered. Some authors offer an alternative ending here and there, but this story is a totally what if alternative mashup in the life of the chosen one. And, for those who were actually a bit torn concerning the almost none existent love triangle between The Conduit and her two demon “friends”, this story pulls you in full force. Who knows who really loves her more and who she should really be with? If you aren’t totally confused by now, you are surely enticed; if you are confused, get caught up on the series. I’m offering no spoilers here.
My only complaint- it’s a novella. I want more. So looking forward to the next one.
Recommended to Rourke and Gryphon Series fans; plus, anyone who enjoys a mash-up of fantasy and paranormal with a bit of humor. Not the best, nor worst, place to start this series.
I love how his book takes off right at the end of the book before it. All the characters are back and with a normal twist that my lovely gryphon loving heart got broken :(
I love the demons and of course our funny Glee Club is back, with some characters that randomly popped up in previous books.
This book gives you a perspective into a character that i absolutely love, trickery, and deceiving with a side I absolutely loved!
Irishman, pirate, and the siblings. Oh! Dont forget granny and her horrible visuals that will have you cringing and laughing thanking yourself she isn't your relative!
Mrs. Rourke did a splendid job and my fingers are crossed that my rooting sexy character shows his face in it!
How can I put this into words? I was so excited to have the Garretts back. Celeste's wit. The family banter. And Grams! Then Stacey Rourke did the most unmentionable, gut wrenching, horrible thing. I dare not speak it! To see the message I dropped to the author go to my blog at www.2girlsandabook.com on Monday, June 6th.
Not sure I can adequately express all the feelings this one aroused. At first I was like Rowan, wth... then wondered what he was up to, then again Rowan wth....and I kind of felt bad for him at the same time. He made a hard choice, but Celeste will appreciate it in the long run,
