“Welcome to Villa Lupus Unguis, the house of the Wolf Fang.”
While getting her fortune told in a Wiccan shop in Salem, Massachusetts, Arcona’s reality has a screaming meltdown. A past life as an obsessed Celtic witch awakens and she’s flung headfirst into blood rites on a sacred island, captured by Romans, and sold in the markets of Pompeii as a pleasure slave to the sadistic owner of a gladiatorial school. Seeking revenge against Rome, Arcona lures a lonely Dacian gladiator into her bed and uses dark magic to turn him into an immortal blood-craving “Slayer,” a warlike vampire to be set loose on the Empire. Two millennia and an exploding Mount Vesuvius later, Tyr is still pissed off about being forced to spend eternity as a vampiric mercenary. Desperate to break the Slayer curse, he kidnaps Arcona, intent on learning the secrets carried in her blood. But they’re in for a surprise. Once these two damaged souls share their stories, the possibility of redemption—even love—is offered. When another Slayer tries to claim Arcona as his blood slave, Tyr has to be her hero one last time. He loved her once but can a vampiric Slayer ever forgive his maker?
This is an epic tale of witchcraft, vampires, reincarnation, and a healing act of love.
Note to my readers: The Strix is NOT a straightforward romance. The heroine’s personality exists in two time frames. She is virtually two different women, sharing the same experiences and evolving from them. This story contains Upir Likhyi or warrior vampires, graphic violence, and sex scenes, blood sports in the arena, and past life mayhem messing up the present. Full-length novel, no cliffhanger, HEA.
Katalina Leon is an artist and author who can’t commit to a single genre. Her favorite playgrounds are historical, Sci-fi, contemporary, and most of all paranormal realms. Katalina brings a sense of adventure and a touch of the mystical to erotic romance. She believes there's a daring heroine inside every woman who wants to take a wild ride with a strong worthy hero.

She went to the island to get guidance from the priestess but what happened would be carried through the years for many generations until 1 man wanted his death. Now Arcona and Tyr try to right the past so that the future can in the cards for them.
I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book. This is book 1 of Wish Stones by the author. This is not a cut and dried story because it has a present and flashback scenes for the pair which makes the story well worth the time to read.
Arcona had lived and died many times and her soul keeps coming back. In the past the Romans had came and took the land, women, and killed family. Arcona became a whore to Marius, who bought her. She asked the Gods to take away her heart and as a witch she does blood rites. Tyr had a farm with a herd of horses he loved, but them he was taken from his home and make a gladiator. Arcona makes him her first vampire. This is one of the greatest story that I have read. So hard to put this book down. It goes from present life to the past but is easy to follow. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes witches, vampires, and reincarnation with sex scene included, or to anyone who truly love a well written book this is it. There is so much going on in this story you will want to read it from cover to end. This is the one you will want to read again and again. I look forward to reading more from Katalina Leon. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy.
This book is definitely hard core and for a 18 or older reader. It's a deep and dark storyline dealing with vampires and past lives and possible redemption. A full novel with no cliffhangers once you are engrossed into the book it will be hard to put down. This writers amazing ability to create this deeply woven tale is flawless. A serious read for serious readers. This voluntary review is based against an advance copy.
A really good main character build, very much enjoyed the first half and final chapters. Although the story consistently branched off into various time frames, there was never a point that I did not know exactly where the author was leading. The only criticism would be that for me, I found a section maybe a little repetitious with a tendency to ramble, so ended up speed reading four chapters through the middle in order to hold interest. Overall, definitely an enjoyable read.
Surprisingly moving, I shed a few tears at times. I enjoyed the detailed history very much, feeling like I was transported to a bygone era. The characters were strong and the chemistry between the two leads heartfelt. Lovely HEA tpp.
Five stars is just not enough for this amazing book. It has very quickly made its way onto my top ten reads of all time. Amazing story, brilliant characters and the description of places and events were awesome. Very, very good story.
DESTINY COMES FULL CIRCLE IN THIS SIZZLING ROMANCE
This titillating tale tells the story of Arcona a curvy beauty who in one life was used for pleasure by many Romans then sold to Marius, owner of a Gladiator school in Pompeii. Though Marius showered her with gifts to keep her happy and pleasuring him, she despised him and all Romans for destroying her people and their land; swearing heartless revenge upon them all. One man stood out to Arcona in the gladiator ring; Tyr is powerful, strikingly handsome and stirred her heart without force. Arcona made Tyr the most powerful Slayer of all with her dark magic. Feeding upon murderers and forced to live the life of the undead he swore he would find Arcona, seeking murderous revenge on the woman he once loved. Arcona, today is still as lovely as she was in the past; she is sweet, has an unselfish heart and works in forensic archaeology in the historical research department at UCLA. Visiting Salem, MA with her best friend on All Souls’ Day they stumble upon Dame Bishop’s shop. The shop is filled with artifacts from the past; Dame Bishop tells Arcona that others have been waiting for her to come to Salem this day. Unbeknownst to Arcona Tyr has planned her capture. His tortured existence has catapulted him into receiving his well-deserved revenge from the woman who ended his mortal life. The intriguing plot, action, suspense, life-threatening danger, gut-wrenching moments, magical moments, picturesque powerful vivid scene descriptions, humor, and sensuous passionate romance capture and hold your attention. There are many hurdles to conquer before the happy ever after is reached.
The author has taken two parts of history and added vampire lore to make an absolutely fascinating fantasy read to keep you turning pages until the end. The author has also done an outstanding job of melding the two lives of Arcona with Tyr’s. How they finally get their happy ending is breathtaking. Both characters are powerful and I adored them both. I found myself feeling a bit teary at times but so cheered at the end. I love when an author makes you feel for the characters she writes about. There is so much more to this story than I have written including other engaging characters; a memorable read. If you enjoy fantasy romance this is a wonderful book for your library. {I was gifted this book and this is my honest review}. In the world of fantasy romance, the magic begins with the first thought to paper. Without reservations, I recommend this book.
This book was amazing! I loved it! The story takes place in the past and the present. Arcona becomes a strix and turnes a gladiator named Tyr into a slayer in order to take down the Roman Empire that killed and tortured her people. Arcona is from Germonia, the land of the Teutoni in 78AD and is a Priestess/Seer. In Present Day Arcona meets Dame Bishop while on a trip in Salem, Massachusetts. Dame Bishop is a witch and owner of a Wiccan shop. From there Arcona's life will never be the same as her past lives come back to haunt her and also free her from the past.
There are so many levels of this story. It's a very interesting read and thoroughly entertaining. The Author writes with true enthusiasm as she unfolds the past into the present. With every detail I felt more and more connected to these characters. The characters are well thought out and have great depth. I loved all of them even the evil Varn. You will enjoy the past tellings of Pompeii 79AD, the Gladiator battles and Arcona's transformation from slave to the maker of Upr Likhyi that will take down the Roman Empire. The ending is magnificent as the past and future collide to bring forth a happy ending.
I give The STRIX 5 stars for it's well written provocative tale and amazing characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Vampires, Paranormal Romance, History or just a well written engrossing read.
REVENGE OR REDEMPTION? 3.5 stars. This is the first book in the Wish Stones series. This book can be read as a standalone with no cliffhanger. There is a lot of violence and the sex is hot and steamy so definitely 18+. There also witchcraft and the invoking of blood magic, so this isn't the book for you if you don't like that. Definitely partially a dark fantasy.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The author did a great job of describing the conditions of the ancient world when the Romans went around destroying or enslaving entire groups of people, as well as the emotions and what caused Arcona to invoke the magic and curse as she did. I love the way she seamlessly wove the main characters, Arcona and Tyr, between the present and the past. This is a tale of a woman who's soul has been reborn and has no current memories of her life as The Strix. While Tyr has been forced to remember everyday what she did to him and all of the pain and misery he has both caused and endured and he has been waiting to take his revenge on Arcona all these years. Will Tyr get his revenge or will Arcona be his redemption? There definitely are some surprises in this book. It kept me riveted and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it.
I am looking forward to reading more of this series.
All I can say is fasten your seat belts !! It's a very fast paced, bumpy ride. Shifting between thousands of years, as Arcona finds out how her past is very much in charge of her present !! Arcona doesn't believe in magic or the supernatural, but when memories surface of things she can't possibly know, much less being memories of her own, she realizes she's not exactly in Kansas anymore ( Wizard of Oz reference, couldn't help myself). Katalina Leon has done an outstanding job of making sure you know exactly which Arcona is in the driver's seat as memories and feelings take her on a ride through her past lives, and she's given us fantastic glimpses of past events. 5 ☆'s for these characters, the world's they lived in and the adventures they each go through !!
Do you believe in past lives? Arcona will after a visit to a witch shop in Salem. That one visit will change all she believes and everything she thought she knew about herself.
The story rotates between present time and ancient Roman time right before the destruction of Pompeii. We watch the past of one special woman who name was and is again Arcona. She will relive her past life and that of one man who may be the death of her in present time.
Due to violence and sex this book is for 18+ only.
This book took me totally by surprise and I don't know why...Ms Leon has never let me down before so I don't know why she would this time. I loved this story, the characters were so interesting both in the past as well as the future. I guess you never know when a second chance will come around...and the author even threw in a twist near the end that shocked me! But I loved it. I definitely recommend it big time! This author will NEVER let you down trust me. Wow.
This review is from: The Strix (Wish Stones Book 1) (Kindle Edition) This book really surprised me. It had so many different things going for it that it really kept my interest. Loved it. Highly recommend you read it.
I enjoyed reading this book! The plot was well written and I enjoyed reading about the historical aspects of the story. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.
