Lexi Warren was lost in a world of darkness. A spiraling whirlwind of hate and destruction. When she made a huge mistake. All because of one moment in time, and one bad decision…nothing would ever be the same.
Until he reappeared…
Kole Hartman was a piece of her past that she had always treasured. A time before everything went dark. Before everything no longer made sense. He was also a reminder of the things she needed to forget, and holding on to those memories was toxic.
I was given a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book tackles a subject that far too many people have unfortunately been forced to go through. Every story is different but the pain is always the same.
Lex is one of those people. She's gone through hell, still is, and now she's just an empty shell. She's hollow, the life she once had has been replaced by a big black hole. Now, she drowns her pain with copious amount of alcohol. She wants to forget, and for a short time she does. However, once morning comes, she is face to face with reality. Oh and some guy who she can't remember a thing about. Thankfully she has two people she can trust and confide in. Well, almost. Meghan is her best friend and roommate. She's the only one who knows and she watches out for her. She hopes someday the Lex, the real Lex will break through her armor. Meghan' s boy friend, Radley, doesn't know the entire story, but he knows enough. He's seen enough. Meghan and Radley are all Lexie has in the world. Until Mr gorgeous himself reenter her life. Kole has his own inner demons and regrets. He's a cocky son of a bitch, but slowly realizes he indeed has a heart.
I seriously cant wait for the next book. I'm loving the direction it's going right now. It was definitely heart wrenching watching as Lexie starts to come to terms with what happened. I can relate, and I'll tell you; it's no walk in the park. Not even close.
My only complaint is the dialogue. it was kind of hard to follow at times because different characters were talking within the same paragraph. For me, it's a lot easier to follow when the lines are separated.
Started off good. Was finding it a very addictive read even if it had a bit more drama than I usually like and then the hero had to do something unforgivable . So disappointed.

Overall i really enjoyed this book. I was asked by the author for an honest review so this will be longer than most of my reviews. The characters Lexi, Kole, Radley, and Megan were all very likable. Kole was your typical frat boy but underneath it all he was really a sweet guy. Lexi was a beautiful mess. She was raped and obviously had some serious social issues from this. Megan is Lexi's best friend and she is a very caring and supportive friend. Radley is Megans boyfriend and he is also very protective of Lexi. This is a great love story and a great story of a girls personal struggle after being raped. Matt the rapist is Koles cousin and a typical piece of shit. Now the one character i wanted to punch in the face was Hope! She is just a slut. She uses sex to get what she wants and has no problem being a play toy. Hope has her eyes set on becoming a permanent part of Koles life. At every turn she is devising a plan to win Kole over even if that means sleeping with his frat brothers to make him jealous. There is some drama in this book and a few times you are like awe dammit what will happen but I like this book and look forward to reading more of her books. On a side note there were some grammar issues as far as some spelling but most of all there were some run on sentences that could stand to be broken up. Kind of like when you think things in your head and when you put them on paper there needs to be a break or pause. But overall great job :)
I'll be very honest... The beginning of the book had me like WTF! I had to re read a couple of paragraphs just to keep track of who was talking and who was narrating the book..
Okay aside from that I do like the storyline. I'm a sucker for the bad boy falls in love with girl thing so this was so up my alley.
kole is hot and so swoon worthy and yes he is a sweetheart. I totally fell in love with him and of course the only time I got mad at him was well I'm not spoiling it for you! :)
Lexi is broken and I do love how she helps herself become a better person. I loved that this book dealt with such a touchy subject. But most all how they showed Lexi looking for help. Help that she needed after what happened to her.
Now I would have loved maybe a little more background story of Lexi, Kole and Matt. As they were all childhood friends. Also maybe if we could have gotten to know Matt a bit more it would have been great and not because he is a good character but maybe just to feel more of Lexis pain...
All in all I did enjoy the book. I can't wait to see what's next in their life..
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is my third book by this author and I really enjoyed Desired Affliction. I was a little nervous at first because I find a lot of books with college kids hard to relate to but these characters come across as very mature. I enjoyed the changing POV's because it really gave you incite as to what the characters were thinking and feeling.
Lexie is starting her first year of college after suffering some pretty damaging events. Feeling broken and empty, The only person she can open up to is her best friend Megan and she avoids any other personal contact.
Kole is the quintessential frat boy, hooking up and partying but with one rule "No Relationships!"
When these two bump into each other at a frat party we learn that they know each other from childhood when their mothers were best friends, 12 year old Lexie having a big crush on the 15 year old Kole. As the sparks fly Lexie resists hard, afraid of getting hurt and Kole is surprised by his quick feelings. I liked that "The Big Secret" comes out quickly and we get to see these two share some happiness. They definitely have some bumps in the road but I don't want to give too much away!
This is not a cliffhanger but there is another book that is a continuation of their story and I will be starting that one right away!!!
Thanks again to C.A. Harms for the opportunity to read this book!

Sadly, this book didn't do it for me. It read almost like bad fan fiction.
The main heroine (Lexi) had something truly horrible happen to her. This made her afraid to trust...and stupid, apparently. The only way she could connect was to get plastered.
The main hero (Kole) was a self-centered playboy. The kind of guy you want to shoot both if he looks at your daughter or is your son.
They meet, he flirts, she rebuffs, and somehow they fall in love. But it's not that easy. Her loneliness issues arise, she ends up where she shouldn't, and he blows everything out of proportion.
Two worst scenes: her big reveal (totally traumatizing, yeah, but I've listened to survivors and none of them throw it back in someone's face) and his overreaction.
Would I recommend it? Probably not. Am I okay that I've read it? Yeah.
P.S. It also needs to go back to an editor. At least the copy I got. One of the secondary character's names was wrong at least twice. Plus, there were quite a few grammatical and spelling errors.
Lexi is on her way off to college with her BFF Megan, and was just going through the motions in life not really giving a fuck about anything especially her own self-worth. She felt shitty and unwanted, her answer: drink until she was numb and end up doing the walk of shame in the morning. She thought that maybe after starting college she would stop doing this self deprecating song and dance and be able to get back to "normal" whatever the Fuck that is and then... she falls into his path, Kole. Kole is a boy she had a crush on when she was only twelve. And shit, he brings back so many memories, the damn Good and Bad. Lexi is now in an internal struggle with her brain and her hormones on whether or not she should even approach or speak to Kole.
Ahhhhh, and like the good little natural things they are, her hormones end up winning, but her insecurities and past trauma make it difficult to do much of anything, but fuck it up.
Kole doesn't do anything remotely close to a relationship. Just Sex. That is all girls are for. He had his heart broke and fuck if he's ever going to go through that shit again. So, he keeps it simple and thinks with his little head so he can protect his big heart! However, all his simple flies out the window when he happens to see Lexi again and remember how this cute little girl was with her damned big eyes and how hard she crushed on him years ago. And fuck him, because now she's all grown up and damn it all to hell if she isn't fine as Fuck! Oh hell yeah, of course he wants to tap that! But Kole has no idea how broken Lexi is. And when he finds out what happened to her all he wants to do is keep her safe, then somehow he falls for her.
The question is how can they even try to have a NOW relationship if they can't get past their PAST relationships. The only solid thing they have going for them is the chemistry and fierce physical attraction along with their desire to be in a "normal" relationship. It's the "how the hell is this gonna work factor" that has everything fucked up.
I absolutely could not get over this book! I found myself screaming NOOOOOO IT CAN'T BE OVER, I NEED MORE! Just when you think that things are smooth... BAM You're hit with a huge WTF moment! This book is darker than her prior books but not in a bad way. You start seeing a beautifully damaged woman go through hard, soul bearing moments that make you cry. There was a point in the book where I felt that Lexi (at the end of her rope) was just going to throw her hands in the air and say F. It! She puts people in their place for doubting her, and finally finds the strength inside herself to love and heal (with the help of one sexy alpha male Kole) Kole has his own issues and with his relentless pursuit of Lexi grows into a better man. When he screws up its epic! I felt as though someone punched me in the gut. He broke my heart. Can he repair something so damaged and broken? This is a sexy, emotional train wreck, but from the wreckage comes something so beautiful! I WILL DEFINITELY 'RE READ THIS BOOK LATER! IT'S THAT FREAKING AMAZING! CA HARMS has skills that pay the bills! I'M A FAN GIRL FOR LIFE!!!
Received this book from author for an honest review.
This was a good story. Freshman, Lexie, who ran away to college to get away from her past. Lexie can only deal with men in a drunken state, and then afterwards she has no recollection of what happened with them or even who they were. She only trusts one person and that her best friend Megan who is her roommate.
Lexie meets Kole, a frat brother of Megan's boyfriend Radley and someone she realizes she knew and had a crush on growing up. Kole is a playa and is never going to settle with one woman, and then Lexie shows up at one of their frat parties. He's determined to hook up with her and lexie is determined she won't trust another man.
This story is well written. The author deals with a touchy subject that happens a lot in our communities, but is never addressed. It seems kind of rushed at the end, but that's because its a sequel and the author says the 2nd book is due out in September.
This is the first book I have read by this author, so I wasted no time in delving in, and I was not disappointed. This book touches on a very delicate subject, that many women are subjected to and never really recover from.
So that leads me on to introducing Lex our leading lady, who is very broken soul. She tries so hard to block this awful memeory away, and in doing this goes on benders and consumes copious amounts of alcohol. This always ends up(Hangover Stlye)waking up in bed not knowing what's she done and even worse, who with? Lex is on a real road to distraction until!!
Kole returns full force into her life, all sexy, alpha male with issues of his own. Kole had me swooning, fanning myself and finding myself saying awwwhhhh with his adorable ways he showed Lex how much he loved her.
This story kept me gripped from the start, right through to the end. I am now straight on to book two, with now break in between.
I was given the chance to read this book from the author for my honest review. I have to say first that I absolutely loved this book as well as the 2nd one in the series. Don't get me wrong I love FSOG, the crossfire series and those books but to be honest those aren't realistic. Desired affliction 1 and 2 are realistic and more importantly relatable. I think that why I like it so much. Lexi went through some traumatic events that broke her and she thought she was unfixable. There Re a lot of people that can relate to things that she went through that happened in her past and then when she and Kole began their relationship. I actually related to some of the things that went on in these 2 books. It put a new perspective on things. They had a real and relatable relationship. I would 100% recommend this book!!! It was amazing!
"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
Lexi has been dealt a difficult hand, but going off to college with her best friend should enable her to start afresh. Things don't exactly run smoothly for her, but as more is revealed, more is resolved.
The story is told from a number of POV, which was good, although it being written completely in the immediate past tense felt odd at times - it is just unusual in novels.
The issues in this book are dealt with well, and responsibly - there was a good combination of denial and acceptance, which I think worked well. This is the first in a series and I am going straight onto book 2 now!
I given the chance to review this book from the author. I will have to say at first ideas a little worried that I wasn't going to be about to get into reading it. But after I read the first few chapters I fell I'm love with the characters and the story line. Lexi has been hurt and doesn't trust men. Her best friend Megan can't blame her. After everything Lexi has been through she thought she would never be able to stand men and never find love. Kole didn't know what he was missing. He was living the life of a average college guy. It wasn't until he reconnected with Lexi that he knew what he was missing. Their friendship/relationship was pushed, pulled, and finally put to the ultimate test. Does true love alway work out in the end?
I was given this ARC for an honest review and once again was not disappointed...Lexi's life was turned up side down one night and she had never been the same since. The only way she can allowed to be touched is if you drunk so that she's so numb she doesn't feel anything. It's bad continuous cycle until her best friend Megan and her go off to college and start fresh. At a frat party Lexi runs into Kole from her old neighborhood whom she had a crush on. There are so many walls that Lexi has built up. Is Kole the one to tear them down and find the real Lexi that he once knew. It's a story that will touch your heart and have you cheering. To find out what happens just one click it and enjoy!!! Great job C. Harm's. Looking forward to reading more of Lexi/Kole's story.
Trust the wrong man.....utter devastation. Trust the right one.....complete bliss. This was Lexi's dilemma. You see she lived through a horrifying nightmare and tries to survive by numbing herself. She was doing a good job of this until Kole came back into her life. He wanted Lexi and knew she had a secret. The road theses two travel down is a bumpy one. They have great friends who support them but ultimately they have a choice. Choose to be happy or walk away. I was given a copy by the author for an honest review. It is told in several different pov's so be warned....it does get a bit confusing at times but hang in there as it is definitely a story worth reading.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is the third book I've read by this author and once again I greatly enjoyed this story. Ms. Harms took a very private subject not discussed by others and brought much needed awareness to it. Ms. Harms depicted the reaction to such a traumatic event very accurately as I too am a survivor of such an event.
The telling of Kole & Lexi's romance was easy to read and I felt like I was right there on the journey with them. I'm looking forward to reading more about their story in Desired Affliction 2. You won't be sorry picking up a copy to read!!
For such an short story this book packs a punch with a beautifully written storyline and characters that you can relate to. C.A Harms explains how rape can affect not only the victims but the people around them. I love how you can relate to every character ( other then Matt) in the book in some way from Lexie who is the victim to Hope who is trying to catch Kole's attention. Everything in the book was lovely, it wasn't fast pace because it is a short story,( one of my favorite things) they didn't fall in love in one day, and there are no cliffhanger. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and be reading the next book in the cherry blossom series.
It was great. C.A Harms did an awesome job to make it as real as possible! The characters did a great job at expressing what they were feeling. This book was a very easy read once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down until I was finished. There were some grammar errors and the font bothered me some when they were having conversation and the font would change. Other than that it was a book that kept me enthralled in the what was going on. I wish there were a little more to the story but with that said it ended well. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I was as to review this by the author so here u go! I actually really enjoyed this book! It's about a girl Lexi who has to figure out if she can ever truly trust anyone ever again. But she has a best friend and her best friends boyfriend who help her and are very protective of her. Then there's Kole who might I add has his own trust issues can't help but b drawn to her. It's a great story about finding your inner strength. It does have some steamy parts so I wouldn't recommend to anyone under 17. I'd definitely read it again. Author did a great job.
**I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review**
Again, I love this author.. This type of stories are my type!! I loved it. Just like her other book, Guarded Heart, I also enjoyed this.
While I'm reading the first part and the mid-part of this book, I'm a real mess.. I was so affected of how their relationship will go and what will happen next. I hope there would be a part 2 of their story. I want to know more what will happen next in their relationship and whether they are really for each other (wedding, babies and all)..
**ARC**. Lexi was just going through the motions of life. The only thing that helps her feel or forget is drinking beyond coherency. She didn't even remember their names. Megan her best friend is the only one to know her secret and the only one to still stand by her. Along comes Kole. He doesn't want a relationship and sex is just sex.....no love. This is the start of a wonderful love story. Like most of C.A. Harms stories they flow easy and you get a great feel for the characters. Look forward to the next book in September!
** I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.**
I found 'Desired Affliction 1' an amazing read. The storyline was so intense that I found my emotions ranging from happy, to mad as hell, to excited and back again. I loved it. Lexi is an amazing lead. I loved her story. Then when Kole came into the story, well, it just got better. I thought the characters were all good. The hot and steamy parts were great. I can't wait to read the next book. Definitely a great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
I recieved this book in exchange for an honest review. I liked this book! It deals with a few social issues that confront women and teens today. Lexi is a college student with a past. It is up to her BFF and roommate to make sure Lexi does not repeat past mistakes. Lexi runs into Kole, her former crush. Kole notices something different about Lexi. She is not the same happy, and sweet girl she used to be. He eventually finds out her secret.
The story wasn't a long one and it got to the point kind of quick. I felt sorry for Lexi for what had happen to her and how she had to deal with it. I fell in love with Kole and him coming to terms that he had deep feelings for Lexi. You got your bad boy turning good, plenty of hot sex, and a love story with some sad parts. All of that and less exaggerated descriptive scenery.
The author shared the book with me for an honest review. If I am honest, I did not enjoy the book. The storyline was interesting and a twist to the usual college romance, but the main characters failed to draw me in.
