His debut work was the audio play The Rapture for Big Finish Productions in 2002. Numerous further audio plays and prose short stories followed for Big Finish, for their Doctor Who line, spin-offs and other series (Sapphire & Steel and The Tomorrow People).
In 2005, he started working for the BBC, writing tie-in material for the new Doctor Who television series. He made his television writing debut in 2008 on the second series of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood and subsequently wrote three two-part stories for The Sarah Jane Adventures. He has written the two-part story "Rebel Magic" for the new CBBC series Wizards vs Aliens.
Lidster wrote the content for the tie-in websites relating to the fictional world of the television series, Sherlock. Alongside co-producer James Goss, he has produced Big Finish Productions' dramatic reading range of Dark Shadows audio dramas since 2011.
In 2012, he won the 'Audience Favourite Writer' award for his first play Nice Sally in the Off Cut Theatre Festival.

Ci mancava un po' di meta-finzione in questa stagione, un breve respiro tra drammi ben più gravi. Infatti, l'intera trama qui sopra (a parte l'ultima riga), non riguarda affatto questo episodio, bensì una soap-opera con protagonista Jason, basata sui libri da lui scritti, e che è assolutamente assurda e infondata. Si tratta certamente di uno degli elementi più divertenti, recitata in una maniera demenziale e distorcendo i fatti reali, con tanto di commenti di Nicholas Briggs che lo fanno sembrare un trailer di BF, e mi ha fatto morire dalle risate. Tuttavia non è il fulcro della faccenda.
Prima di tutto facciamo un passo indietro, e rispondiamo all'unica vera domanda tra quelle riportate qui sopra: chi diavolo è Kadiatu Lethbridge-Stewart?
Kadiatu è un personaggio introdotto nelle VNA: appare in 3 o 4 libri (che non ho ancora letto) e quindi la sua backstory è molto complicata. Basti sapere che arriva dal 22° secolo, viaggia nel tempo ed è la bis-bis-bis-bis nipote adottiva del Brigadiere. Lunga storia.
Benny viene contattata anonimamente e incontra Kadiatu in un bar, la quale la porta (un po' di forza) sulla Terra, dove dovrà risolvere una certa situazione. La Presidente dell'Impero Terrestre, infatti, sembra essere uscita di testa negli ultimi due mesi, e ha iniziato a segregare gli alieni, convincendo la popolazione umana a diffidarsi di loro in seguito alle recenti guerre.
Quello che ne consegue è una classica trama doctor-whoesca che penso si possa apprezzare anche presa singolarmente. Si ricollega però al resto della stagione per quanto riguarda il villain dietro tutto quanto, che tuttavia non è chi mi aspettavo. Inoltre, l'epilogo di “The Two Jasons” avviene dopo questi eventi.
Ma soprattutto, “The Final Amendment” avviene in contemporanea con “The End of the World”, con un'unica telefonata tra Benny e Jason come collegamento.
Ora che ci penso, credo di aver sentito un po' dell'oscurità di Lidster nell'episodio di Stone, e un po' del parodistico umorismo di Stone in questo. Chissà se si sono scambiati degli appunti in merito o hanno solo incanalato l'energia l'uno dell'altro.
A parte Benny, gli altri membri del cast principale appaiono solo in camei per quanto riguarda la soap. Scommetto che si sono divertiti a recitarla quanto io ad ascoltarla (davvero, in certi punti ero sopraffatta da risate isteriche).
Questa storia bilancia molto bene l'umorismo con la trama e gli intrighi, rendendolo un ascolto accattivante ma più leggero rispetto ad altri nella stagione. Ma il finale ci riporterà subito a questioni più importanti.

As a fan of the original Virgin novels, I'm loving the references to them, and the characters, in this case Kadi, Chris and Roz. A clever plot with the TV show within the plot having a big of a dig at the series proper. Wondering with the ending just how many TARDIS'(which aren't referred to as that) there are lurking around in this universe.
I liked the way they handled Benny's finding out about , very understated and mirrored in the TV show plot too. A nice link back to the past before moving forward.
