The Manson Girls

Rate this book
A look back at the many women who become followers of Charles Manson during his Helter Skelter siege in California in the 60s & 70s. All were hippie girls who became loyal to the maniac who told them to kill for him...Among those featured here are the stripper Susan Atkins, a sweet-voiced stripper whose looks belied a devil within. Leslie Van Houten who was an educated young woman that became a murderous animal under Manson's control. Patricia Krenwinkel and Squeaky Fromme, who were mentally unbalanced women that became puppets under the psychotic Manson.

This reads like a high school term paper that was written by a 5th grader. I am shocked it wasn't written in crayon it was so bad. There was absolutely ZERO editing of this crap. When the name of the subject (Manson) is listed in the title you would think that the writer would try and remember how to spell it but since he is referred to as Manson and Mason throughout the entire thing I would say that's not something he tried hard to remember.
Now on to the many many mistakes...I am not going to cover them all because I don't have the patience and won't bore those who choose to read my review.
---too many issues in the section on Susan Atkins to even bother with....
---Catherine SHARE was not Catherin SHER
---I have never seen or heard once that either Mary Brunner or Susan Atkins had tried to leave the ranch with their sons
---Manson brought a SWORD to Gary Hinman's house which he used to slice his face and take off most of his ear
---Steven Parent was driving a car which sadly also became the site of his death
---the house of Sharon Tate was NOT chosen at random
---the LaBianca's were tied up by Manson and both were not sleeping at the time the family broke in to kill them
---the author couldn't make up his mind as to how to refer to Lynette Fromme...it was so irritating
---most of the other 'Family' members were forbidden to be in court because they were witnesses
---the judge was Charles OLDER not Holder
---Lynette Fromme didn't assume she would be released since she didn't hurt President Ford..she wanted to be placed in jail to be closer to Manson and some others
---Roman Polanski didn't own the house they were living in at the time of the murders
---the LaBianca's lived next door to Harold True an old acquaintance of Manson's not Phil Kaufman
---Sharon Tate did NOT know Steven Parent and did NOT invite him to her home that night..he was visiting the caretaker and first suspect William Garretson
---Patricia Krenwinkel wrote in blood at the LaBianca home NOT the word written in Sharon Tate's blood at her home, that was Susan Atkins
---Manson did NOT kill Gary Hinman

Ok...that's enough but sadly I have dozens of more places marked in this true crime piece of garbage. I refuse to call it a book because as I said it reads like a term paper that wasn't edited.
Avoid this at all costs and it's not even worth getting through Kindle Unlimited as I did.

Almost unreadable because of the amount of typos though the subject matter is interesting.

I was born in the 90s so my knowledge of the Manson Murders was essentially bare basics, and this book shed some light on a perspective I don't hear or see mentioned often- the women, his influence, and the outcomes.

At times this book was written in a way that I was taught to write reports for the government, and was a breeze to get through. Other times it appeared as if it was never proofread and simply published in a hurry- spelling and grammar mistakes, the likes of which would've been seen and corrected, in my opinion.

Good read

Great summarization of the girls. I read Helter Skelter, so am familiar with the Manson clan. Seen movies and documentaries also. Only reason, not a five, spelling, tenses errors and font changing.

Too many mistakes

It was confusing and full of spelling errors. Also much of the information was inaccurate. Very difficult to grasp the details

Hard to read due to the typo and grammatical errors. Some points were not factual. Quick read.

Decent

Somewhat decent. Learned some knew things. Has some grammatical errors. Vincent Buglioisi's book Helter Skelter is a way better read.
