I have read and now re-read Stottlemyre's work on productivity and goal setting/achievement. Hearkening back to men like Jim Rohn and Zig Ziglar (whom he quotes), Stottlemyre puts a workable 9-point system in place for you to execute the goals you have in life. After reading this, I downloaded his printable planner and have been using it to help keep me on target with a few large goals I am working on.

The book is an easy read and includes some nice stories from his Major League Baseball career but this isn't a baseball book. It's a book for anyone who wants to achieve more and realize their dreams.

I'd say the author has a need to show himself as a better version than he really is. Hey, man, there is no need for that - You have achieved so much already! :) You don't have to prove anything to others. Let go, You feel lighter :D
***
Anyway, some thoughts from the book:
***
The author tells the sad story about his brother’s fight with leukemia and his fathers fight with cancer. Taking this fight with life as a comparison, he is constantly pushing out more from himself in training etc, since he “only” has to fight for the next major league win, so in his mind he must at least give the effort his little brother was giving - an honorable “warrior”, never complaining.
***
Think of your goals as a MUST, not a maybe. Don’t just be browsing the holiday catalog, but purchase the tickets (meaning: be all in, so there is no option to quit)
***
We live by who we believe, we are. You will prove yourself (and others) what you believe will come true (both in a good and bad way). Work on what You believe!
***
Success is a few good choices each day repeated, failure is a few errors of judgment repeated constantly.
***
Jim Rohn: We will all feel the pain. But we can choose if it’s the pain of discipline, or the pain of regret.
***
With each effort You make, keep telling yourself: I will gain an edge! When Your goals are big enough, every effort seems worth it!
***
There is value in the fight. It's impossible to be a peak performer without your enemies to win. When you want to give up, you must look for your enemies and fight like hell to conquer them.
***
His father: what every you'll be, be a good one.
***
Talks about the stock market crash of 2008 - even losing 20-30%, nobody will want to be left out of the “rebound” and they will still be all in. And lose it all.
***
When putting in the effort at work - Think of Your family, Your company, Your team, Your clients. There are always people that are counting on You to bring home the check, to give the best service etc. Think bigger than Yourself for the extra effort!
***
Jim Rohn again: the people You surround yourself with - ask Yourself… What are they doing to me? What do they got me reading? What to they got me saying? Where do the got me going? What have the got me becoming? Surround yourself with higher standards,
***
Gives an example where he was not confident enough to decide something (the times when to throw a curve ball). And his mentor took the decision away from him - saying when he should. And when he got back the confidence, the mentor let him decide again. So when somebody is stuck and out of confidence, You can make a deal that for some time You will do the deciding Yourself!
***
When you encounter setbacks, then put things into perspective: You are STILL closer to Your goals than a month ago. And when You put in the effort, in a month’s time You will again be closer. It might bring You the great win, or it might not - but it WILL put You closer to Your goals, when You give it Your all.
***
Success is not about doing more things, but mastering a few things.
***
If you never quit, you will win!

While very American Capitalist, Stottlemyre demonstrates through his own life experiences the necessary steps, behaviours, sacrifices and attitudes necessary to achieve and maintain your full potential in order to live "world-class".

Contains the same basic principles as most personal development books:
- Write down your goals (doesn't mention anything about making them S.M.A.R.T. goals, in fact the examples used are rather vague.)
- Develop healthy habits (He does a decent job of demonstrating how to make incremental improvements, but again, I'd rather recommend Atomic Habits or similar for this)
- Discover your Why? (He could delve deeper here, and urge pursuit of asking why? after every subsequent answer until you reach the end of the line - to truly understand what's driving you.)
- Never give up
- Build strong partnerships (This is one of the stronger segments and, similarly to Charlie Gilkey, Stottlemyre outlines the different types of supportive partnerships to enter into and how to maintain them in order to achieve sustained growth.)

Worth reading for the personal anecdotes as demonstrations of the iron will and unshakeable commitment and focus required to achieving one's goals.

For those who love baseball, it is a great opportunity to read a story about an amazing athlete, who enjoyed fame and success, without leaving the ugly and painful experiences that help him become a legend. The 9 point system makes a lot of sense, and it echoes many famous writers like Napoleon Hill to Stephen Covey and the like.
What I found unique was the first persona narration of a life with so much success that many people will not think he had very difficult moments on and off the field. I was amazed to learn about Stottlemyre's struggles to make it to the MLB, to stay there, to get back, to fight his injuries, and this challenges with crisis in his life.

A really good, encouraging, list of techniques to achieve whatever you want in your life.
Really short but pleasurable and easy to read (or listen - I listened to the audio version).
The narrator is calm and infuses his calmness into the listeners, which makes it easier to listen to the audio version (hopefully the script is equally relaxing).
The 9point system is nothing new or unknown, but explained as the author does explain it, with references to his own life and history, is a great opportunity to learn from who did it.
Some quotes which resonated with me in the book:

This is a great read if you are looking to be inspired to be better and to do better. The author combines personal experiences with tried and true principles of success. I encourage you to read with a journal, pen, and highlighter. Answer the questions presented after taking time to reflect and ponder them and how they apply to your life here and now. If you want to experience growth and change you must do the heavy lifting to release the past and embrace today.

This is one of the best books on success I have ever read. Todd stottlemyre is a 3 time World Series champion, a success on Wall Street, and a success at the highest levels of Network Marketing.

He has earned the right to tell you and I how to win.

Read this book, by 5 copies and give it to the people you care about most.

All the things he has said I have read before and in a way that is a good thing. Work hard, start slow, never give up! A good read to help keep your head in the right place but also good if you like baseball!
Good Read!
