This book was born from the need to explain others that they can facilitate a coderetreat. After many first-time facilitator training sessions during the 5 years organizing Global Day of Coderetreat, we realized that we need another medium to explain coderetreat. It is true that the depth of facilitating and hosting can be understood only after dealing with these tasks. This book will help anyone who wants to facilitate or host a coderetreat to make that transition faster and to be more productive during the learning process.
Does what it says on the cover. Must read if you care about facilitating and/or hosting coderetreats. The book gave me better insights on facilitation, putting emphasis on guiding vs teaching people.
Quite simple, and mostly common sense. The list of constraints is useful, but its not comprehensive, and it feels like it could be covered by a decent blog post
The title says it all. I'm interested in facilitating a Coderetreat and this little book is a great way to learn how to do just that.
It first touches on the goal of a Coderetreat and its history. Then, it discusses the format of the event with clear descriptions and tips for each part. I specifically liked the emphasis that the authors put on the introduction. They give several examples of how to introduce the event, with lots of tips.
There's a chapter that discusses the role of the facilitator and different facilitation styles and another chapter that touches on the responsibilities of the host.
The core of book presents activities that you can do during the sessions. Each activity is clearly described, the section going through the constraints, the goal, when to use it and facilitation tips.
With the advice in this book, I think I have a good understanding of what I need to do as a facilitator and activities that I could use.
