Children are fascinated with Egypt and this new book, Ghost Ship, will continue that fascination. The story takes us through the discovery and uncovering of an old boat, buried in the Egyptian desert. The story includes facts about Egyptian culture and speculations about the answers to mysteries the boat's discovery have generated. It's all in full color, with lots of sidebars and diagrams that nonfiction-loving children adore, as well as the index and glossary and bibliography that teachers want.

I thoroughly enjoyed this account of the discovery of a ship buried at the foot of the Great Pyramid of Giza. I learned a lot about the time and place. To read about what is currently the world's oldest still existing boat gave me insight into what life was like in Ancient Egypt. The sharp design of the book adds to it's appeal with a nice combination of text and photographs/illustrations. Like many of their other nonfiction titles, Bearport has done a great job in creating a book that young readers interested in the subject are bound to pick up.

Archeologists discoverd a huge pile of wooden pieces that were once a ship buried at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza. What was it doing there? Why was it buried in the middle of the desert? How would they put the pieces back together? Ghost Ship: the Pharaoh's Buried Vessel by Ruth Owen answers all these curious questions and more. For ages 5 - 12.

Bearport books have a way of finding unique aspects of popular subjects. This book is about a boat that was dug up by an archaeologist next to the Pyramid of Giza. The book explains how boats were used by the ancient Egyptians and then goes on to explain how this particular boat needed to be put back together using the same methods the ancient Egyptians used to first create it. The book is as well put together as the pharoah's boat.
