The heroine is a hang glider who gently floats down from the sky to land gracefully at the hero's feet for their initial meeting.

Great start to a great romance, right???...WRONG!!!

H is a luxury hotel developer who tries to persuade h to sell him her little cottage, which stands smack in the middle of his plans. He had tried to get her to sell to his company several times before, through his lawyers, but h was not interested in the huge profit she could make. She was quite cozy and comfortable in her lovely cottage that she had painstakingly customized and maintained to her taste since she was 17 years old and started making her own living, with only Percy the feral cat as her companion. She simply did not want to move.

Her backstory is that her dad was a Bernie Madoff type who stole from all their friends and acquaintances in some Ponzi scheme then abruptly left h and her mom when h was fifteen, and lived the rest of his life in hiding with all the stolen money, while h and her mom became destitute and jeered by all their former friends. The h and her mom changed their names and moved anonymously into the village where h is inhabiting her cottage in the present-day of the story. Soon after moving, h's mom died. She let the tumor in her breast grow without telling anyone or seeking medical care because she was eager to die. Never mind she would abandon her already traumatized daughter. She lived only for her husband and the double blow that he abandoned her and that she lost all her material comforts and social standing did her in. The h's dad never contacted h or her mom again, not even years after the scandal died down, when he could have discreetly at least inquired after them or sent them some financial support.

H does not know about h’s backstory nor would he care. All he cares about is to get her to sell her beloved cottage to him so he can destroy it and build his luxury property. He tries to entice h with a tour of the impressive facilities, promising h her own residential suite at his luxurious resort, complete with indoor pool and sauna, if she gives up her cottage. When that doesn't work, he turns on the charm and decides to pursue her romantically. Despite h's own instincts, and her friends' concerns that H is just buttering up h, h gives into her fascination with the H.

The next morning, the asshole treats her coldly, like it had been just another casual ONS, and the h has outlasted her welcome. To make matters worse, the H's business partner and the partner's wife, who is the vile OW in this story, both burst in on them, embarrassing the h and making her feel like a cheap floozie who had to make a walk of shame home.

The whole time that the h and H are dating, the OW is dropping Huge, Loud, Hints that h is another one in a long series of flings for H, who has an affair with a local townie every time he picks a different location for building a resort, and that h is being used, wined and dined for the sole purpose of persuading her to sell her cottage so that H can complete his project.

The OW is a rude pig yet H keeps throwing h and her together, even asking them to work TOGETHER to create a jewelry boutique for the hotel. The OW's husband and the H do absolutely nothing to curb OW's crazy rude words and actions, even going so far as to defend her against rumours that OW cheats on her husband.

h valiantly ignores OW and chooses to put trust in H, even when OW and H both coincidentally leave town for a few days, ostensibly for a business trip for H and a spa getaway for the OW, though the vile cow keeps hinting she is meeting "someone very special" out of town.

Then, a few days later, after h has finally agreed to sell him her cottage, h walks in unannounced in his hotel suite to find OW in a RED toweling robe, draped on H's bed, waiting for him to finish his shower, and purring to the h: "Not tonight, sweetie."

Poor OW miscalculated and gloated too soon because, though h had verbally agreed to sell her cottage to H after he took her to bed, she had not yet signed on the dotted line. So H sends a very contrite OW to show up the next morning at h's cottage for a half-hearted apology and a fairy tale that it was only a Great, Big, Terrible Misunderstanding.

The H himself cleverly acts as if he has no idea that anything is wrong and what h walked in. He half-heartedly denies h's accusations that he is having an affair with his business partner's wife then just up and leaves, taking off for five weeks, and completing the purchase of the h's cottage through his lawyers.

The fact that OW is colluding with H is off page and my interpretation only, but imho, it was glaringly obvious. If this OW was NOT having an affair with H, why would he keep her and her husband around for SEVEN YEARS given how absolutely horribly she behaved in public. Why would she show up the next morning and apologize to the heroine when it was clear she held her in contempt and wanted her out of the picture? OW's husband is a poor schlub who is only a minor partner to the firm. It's not like H couldn't find another architect.

Moreover, if H really loved the h, why would he throw her in OW's path at every turn if not to placate his mistress and assure her that h was just another lady in the port, and OW was and would remain his permanent number one girl?

If H really wanted h, not the cottage, he would have made a gesture NOT to go through the transaction to purchase the cottage, to prove to her that SHE mattered more than his stupid project hmmmm?

Finally, h sees H again at the Grand Opening Party of the hotel after 5 weeks of total silence. H seems more troubled than happy to see her. He is more worried that h is going to make a scene that will embarrass OW and her husband who, YES, are still partners with H and STILL invited to the Grand Opening Party, than about making any attempt to reconcile with her. Appearances must be preserved at all cost after all.

I was really sad that h eventually swallowed the bullshit that H fed her, this time by sending the OW's cuckolded husband in the morning to h's house to assure her that, despite the fact that OW is a big, fat, slut who was indeed having affairs with many men, the H was the ONE dude that she couldn't entice into her bed. LMAO.

No, of course not, OW was simply just trying it on with H that night h walked in on them, as she has been "trying" for the past seven years but H is somehow not and never has been interested! And poor schlub is willing to hang on to the OW despite all her cheating and humiliation, because he loves her. Yeah right!

Sounds to me like the two of them are pretty much extorting the H in an endless blackmail cycle. H has to pay for OW's favors by keeping the schlub on the payroll or they make a huge escandalo that will bring down his hotel empire, the one and only thing that H cares about. It would explain so much about how entitled OW acts and how she and her schlub are glued to the H's hip wherever he turns.

I felt so sorry for h and so angry that the author forced a reconciliation and supposed HEA between her and the worthless H.

She put her head in the sand and believed him in order to have a happy ending. But me? No way in hell. He is a big, fat cheater and the deranged OW had complete immunity and will 100% remain his "number one" mistress as he goes traipsing off to the next hotel venture while heroine remains behind. The only smart one in this story was the misanthropic cat. Wished he had clawed and sprayed that vile trio :(

I enjoyed this more than Naksed did (check out her review for all the plot details!). I liked the heroine, who lived in a snug cottage with her half-feral cat, dated a boring real estate agent, made jewelry, and had lots of friends. She has been pressured to sell her cottage to the hero who is rennovating the local manor house and wants her land for expansion.

The hero charms her with his indoor pool and lots of evenings out. They seem well-suited. Unfortunately, his partner's much-younger wife tries to put doubt into the heroine's mind, and after a long campaign, succeeds in breaking up the H/h for the black moment.

This is my kind of scenario. This OW was interesting and everyone knew she was no angel. I can see why the lack of comeuppance would be annoying, though.

Still, I liked the romance. H/h really do seem to get along. Heroine seems to know her own mind. The heroine selling the cottage and letting go of her past is a good thing - even if it did fit in with the hero's plans.

I feel very sorry for the people who are trying to get an idea of what this book is like based on the existing reviews. So much is left to the interpretation of the reader in this case. Unfortunately, I will be adding to this lack of a clear perception.

The real question of this book is whether the H actually had an affair with the OW. On the surface, it seems extremely likely that there was an affair because there is no way that the professional relationship between the H, and the OW's husband could have endured years of the OW'S unrequited stalking. The OW would have forced the issue and broken up her marriage, which in the process would have destroyed the relationship between the OW's husband and the H.

But what is the likelihood that the easily-bored H would remain as the OW's affair partner for years? Very low. He's a man about town (i.e., a whore). He would have discarded the OW after a few months which would again complicate the relationship between the H and the OW and the OW's husband, since there's no way that the OW would have been able to hide her displeasure and fury at being discarded. Again, she would have forced the issue in such a way that the professional relationship would have been destroyed.

So what is the reality here?

The conversation between the OW's husband and the h reveals the truth for those of us who can read between the lines. The OW's husband is neither sad nor angry that his wife is constantly pursuing the H and having affairs with many other men. If anything, his reaction seems sheepish and slightly amused. He points out jovially that he has lower standards than the H, and this is definitely the case.

You see, he and his wife mutually enjoy her promiscuity and his humiliation. He is a happy cuckold. That's why his wife's pursuit of the H could continue and not cause the necessary break one would anticipate. The H is indifferent to, and the OW's husband is pleased by, the OW's antics. In the name of business, the H brushes off the OW as needed, and things proceed as usual professionally.

So, the H is actually telling the truth, of all things. Who would have thunk it?

DNF p. 54.

This book should be titled 'psychotic bitch' rather than 'moon lady'. The h in this is unhinged and horrible. In the three chapters I read:
* She cold dumps men and finds it amusing.
* she lies to her boyfriend, and leads him on knowing she's going to dump him.
* thinking there is a woman on the phone, she nastily thinks 'I bet my legs are thinner than hers'.
*she expects the H to fawn over her, and weirdly to phone her to say good morning after only briefly meeting him once.
*she swerves into oncoming traffic and nearly kills a person because she's thinking about the H.
*she's a complete unfeeling bitch to her friend whose partner just left her
*she smashes a glass frame over a man's head, slashing his face, because he flirted with her.
* she humiliates her boyfriend at a party by giving him the heave-ho in front of all their friends. She cares so little she shrugs and keeps dancing.

After that I gave up. I just can't enjoy a book when the h is a relentless cunt.

Yikes was this bad. The book waffled between a snooze fest or just plain annoying.
Total waste of time.
