My fairytale Internet romance has quickly turned into a nightmare. Now, I’m stranded 2000 miles from home with no ID, no money and nowhere to lay my head on this hellish California night…
He was supposed to be my valiant white knight, a friend-of-a-friend sent to save me from my poor life choices. But, Maxwell Masters likes to play dirty…he wants something in return. (No, not THAT. Get your mind out of the gutter).
Maxwell Masters
I’m the ultimate NFL bad boy. And after a string of bar brawls, a bit of bad behavior on social media and a drunken game of naked truth-or-dare on a public beach, my career is on the line. My only hope of saving my very lucrative contract is to prove to the team's management that I’m a changed man in a committed relationship and that my player moves are now reserved exclusively for the football field.
So, when the gorgeous friend-of-a-friend happens to stumble into my life, desperate vulnerable and in need of rescuing, I see the perfect opportunity. Faith Monroe will be my fake fiancée. Unless she'd rather hitchhike her fine ass all the way back to Reyfield, Illinois.
"Dirty Stranger" is book two in the "Dirty Suburbs", a series of full-length, stand-alone romantic comedies about the residents of small town Illinois.
I'm who you've been looking for, Doll Face, and you're everything I didn't know I needed. Fate pushed us together.
And this line actually emphisize the point of this story-after the chance encounter that put the main characters in each other's path...it 's an alliance matched up out of awkward circumstances...but none of them is really ready to acknowledge the feels that are surfacing...
So one drunken night in Vegas...and you know what usually happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...
Well, this time it comes right back to bite they asses and make them face the fact that that one drunken night was the subconscious push to drive them right into the truth-that they do actually feel sonething for ona another and that it's time to face it and work on it!
This was an okay read, a sport romance, with a player/player quarterback and a girl that desperately seeks love... Well, since the storyline wasn't anything new that i haven't already read numerous times, i was at least, counting on a refreshing writing style since this is my first encounter with this author's work but it all was moderately wrapped up with no surprising moments.
I do however, notice the passionate strike of the sex scenes and the presentation of their physical attraction was palpable and believable, and therefore i gave it 3.5 stars.
After reading and enjoying Book 3 then Book 2, next up was this one. And I crashed. I tried a couple of times to get into it but couldn't stand either character so I didn't even really get that far into it. The hero, Max, is the younger brother of Keeland, the hero from the first book. He's a first class jerk and even though I didn't get far, he had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He's a spoiled, rich professional football player who is tanking his career with idiotic and even mean spirited stunts.
The heroine, Faith Monroe, is the sister of someone in this series. She's an idiot, a real stupid idiot. She is headed for vacation with some guy she met on the internet whom she hadn't yet met in person. Did I say she's an idiot? Because she is. Not only does she take off with some stranger (idiot) she didn't tell her family where she was headed or with whom (idiot times a million) When she discovers - on the plane no less, that her "travel companion" doesn't quite live up to his picture on the internet - gee, colour me shocked on that one - she somehow manages to get thrown off the plane, while her luggage remains. I'm not even sure she has her purse - I don't think so. Again - idiot.
So she's in California with no luggage, no purse, no back-up plan, because gee - why have one of those when you are taking off with a total stranger. She manages to get hold of her sisters friend who just happens to be married to Keeland, big brother of Maxwell who plays football in California.
They work things out so that Faith and Maxwell meet up and he will (supposedly) help her get home. But instead this spoiled, player, arsehole blackmails her into attending some function with him that he had to attend to try and make amends the owner of the football team that he is doing he best to get booted from.
Their made up story somehow gets away from them and they are stuck with each other to play things out.
At this point I loathed both of them and didn't want to spend another minute reading about either one of this duo. I've too many other GOOD books to read.
I take this one as being a bad blip on an otherwise good series so I'm going forward. In fact I have read the next one, a short novella and thankfully it's ever so much better that this pile of crap.
When I saw the "I would recommend to" tab, I snorted.
"Trust me, loose dentures, rheumatoid arthritis and four-wheel mobility scooters do not a sexy love story make."
When you write like this and include something like rheumatoid arthritis in reference to senior citizens it's clear you have no idea what that is. Maybe using the general arthritis term would have been better? It makes me crazy when I am reading and it becomes clear the author didn't research something and pokes fun at a disease that for many is debilitating and can eventually lead to worse diseases and or death.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic disease that affects all ages children and adults not just elderly. The only you got right is there is nothing sexy about it.
This story is delightful to read, fun and naughty. I like the characters effort to avoid falling for each other but eventually fell in love. Two thumbs up Cassie-Ann!
Maxwell Masters - could almost be as good as his brother...ALMOST!
I couldn't imagine being in Faith's shoes! Imagine being on board the plane, ready to take off on a romantic Hawaiian vacation with the man you'd been chatting with for months, only to discover he's not who he pretended to be.
Add to that - being thrown off the plane, your wallet and luggage staying on said flight and having told no one where you actually are.
If it were me, I can't promise I wouldn't actually end up behind bars because of my hissy fit!
Enter the playboy brother of a friend...Maxwell Masters. A guy guaranteed to show you a good time and leave you wanting more.
This book was a lot of fun! I loved how as Faith started to spiral, Maxwell kept redirecting her and pulling her from her own pity party.
The Master's brothers... cause every girl should have one :P
Max and Faith were so much fun to read about! This is a well-written sports romance with a strong alpha bad boy and the one girl who can stand up to him. This author's writing is sophisticated, the dialogue ranges from heartfelt to hilarious, often within the same scene. The inner monologues are done extremely well, giving us wonderful insight into both POVs as the two work toward their HEA.
I really enjoyed another trip to the Dirty Suburbs community; it's fast becoming one of my favorite book destinations. This series is filled with wonderful secondary characters, some of whom are primary characters in other books.
I really liked this book it was so funny! Some parts not all of it but just enough, though it did have a few typos so that's why no 5 stars. If I could give 4 1\2 I would but it's not possible such is the life. I will say I didn't buy the whole being happy with her estranged father, even if it was her dream for him to be there. You're not 5 time to grow up! Also, what happened with her sister's husband?! What was his brother's baby?! So maybe this book really does deserve 4 stars, it would have been better if perhaps it ended with a pregnancy. Ah well, it was a good light read but could have been better.
Faith Monroe is sooo relatable to every awkward moment you've had as a woman! I absolutely love her "realness" in this story. She has been catfished by a romantic interest from the internet and finds herself stranded at the airport. Enter Maxwell Masters- charming and all playboy. Exactly NOT what she needs, but the only one that can help her at the moment.
The exchanges between Max and Faith are absolutely wonderful. I love how their personalities play off of each other. I also love that, as sweet as Faith is, she gives Max a run for his money. Loved both these characters. Recommended reading!!
I loved this book. Faith is so funny and Maxwell although has a reputation of a player turns out to be so careful and attending of her needs. Ok, if we forget the initial blackmail... He is a famous NFL star and brother to Keeland from book#1 and she is the sister of Grace again appearing in book#1. Nevertheless. the story has action, humor and steamy scenes, making the book one of the most enjoyable I have read so far. It's standalone but reading # book 1 is a good idea as all the characters are appearing. Going heads on the rest of the books...
A bit better than okay, nothing really outstanding but this being my 3rd read by Ms. Miller and all 3 have been written with an easy fast flow. Enjoyable and fun reads that I may save for the days I am struggling to find a good read. Includes a bonus "Desire, Untamed (The Esquire Girls: Ruthie #1)" but as there are 3 other parts to the series, I am saving it for another day.
Side note, nice to see a clean-shaven face on the cover. I hate most beards.
I think the thing I had the biggest problem with with this story was that the author doesn’t seem to be American. She doesn’t seem to know where the different cities/sports teams are located. Also, the fact that it is the most important time of year for a football team, but they aren’t practicing or playing games. And just some of the vocabulary/word spellings; they aren’t what Americans would say/use.
Normally I do not care for the sports writing. I felt like, once you read one, you have read them all. Faith and Maxwell's story did not even come close to what I thought it would be. It was even better. Between my laughing out loud, to cursing at it, then enjoying the ending. I could read again.
Really funny storyline. I was hooked after the first chapter. While Maxwell takes a while to grow on you, he has his redeeming qualities. When he's not being insensitive, he's charming and he does finally grow up! Faith, ever the romantic, is just the right woman for this gorgeous bad boy with a Peter Pan syndrome.
Once I started I didn’t want to put it down. A player bad boy meets his match. Faith makes plans for the the holidays that blows up in her face. Her best friend’s husband’s brother Maxwell lives in the city she is stranded in. They end up on an adventure of a life time. Will it end in happy ever after or heart break?
Who knew when we met Faith and Maxwell in book one of the series that they would make such a good couple? Their story was fun and lighthearted with minimum amounts of angst that did not come out of nowhere and did not last for too long. I think the best part of this might have been Maxwell’s growth. Because he really was a cretin at the start of this book. But love changed him
Faith and Maxwell were so much fun! I'm a sucker for the fake relationship trope as is, but these two were an absolute blast. I love how original and unique Faith's character was, and though Maxwell could be a bit of an a$$, his sweet spots more than made up for it.
✔️ Small Town ✔️ Fake Relationship ✔️ Damsel in Distress (kind of) ✔️ Spicy ✔️ Football Romance
Good story. Faith is stranded at LA airport after getting catfished, Maxwell (Felixes brother) comes to get her and she spends some time at his home.
Some laughs, some sexy times and a whole lot of reflection in this one. There is also a little twist that makes them both realize their love for each other.
These is the second book in The Dirty Suburbs. I really enjoyed reading these book and how Maxwell and Ruth fell in love. I look forward to reading more of the series.
Decent story, though as others have said the characters aren't very likeable. Writing itself was pretty good. Also another thing that I really hate is when books have part of another book in them. It's one thing when it's just a chapter, but this book ended at 76%.
Thus is a good read. It was not time consuming and it was a great story. It is an HEA which I liked alot and it flowed great. Characters were funny and loveable. All around great read.
This is a gripping page turner. I loved the characters Faith & Maxwell as well as the secondary characters. Hot scenes mixed with real emotions. I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading this book. Maxwell & Faith are a hoot. The way they meet and the fake fiancee story. It was great how she changed his life. I cant wait to read more from this author.
Love this series. This book was way different than Book 1, it was still great! Loved the story, the characters and how things came along for them. I still want more of Daniel and family :)
Max and Faith’s story...FINALLY! I saw them in other stories and they were together, but I was interested in seeing how they came to be a couple. I love how Faith’s joyous, fun-loving attitude helped Max find his base. Time to continue...
Liked the meet cute. Both MC are snarky and full of fun. A crazy situation ends up out of control for this sexy pro football player and crazy friend of his brother who needs rescuing. It gets worse before it gets better and it's one hell of a fun ride. 3.5/5 stars
I liked hoe both Faith and Maxwell were a mess separately, but together they really did help each other. They were annoyingly immature, but together they were mature. Odd, but it worked.
