“Ormakalude pagoda”—a travelogue by famous story writer and novelist U A Khadar. The book is about the writer’s visit to his own land…The land were he was born!! In the book the novelist describes about his travel to Burma (Myanmar), where he was born in a small village. The writer left the place at the age of seven and was settled here in Kerala. The writer’s portrayal of his travel to the land shows the love and affection towards the land.

Ormakalude Pagoda has many photographs and a foreword by Dr P K Thilak. Afterword by Akbar Kakkattil.

About the author

U. A. Khader is an Indian author. He has written about fifty works in Malayalam, which include novels, novellas, short stories, travelogues and non-fiction. His works have been translated to various languages including English, Hindi and Kannada.

Born in Burma (Myanmar), Khader returned to India at the age of seven and grew at his father's native place in Koyilandy, Kerala.

ബർമ പണ്ട് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ഭാഗമായിരുന്നെന്നും (ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയുടെ), അവർ രാജ്യത്തിൽ നിന്നും വിച്ഛേദിക്കപ്പെട്ടത് പാക്കിസ്ഥാൻ രൂപപ്പെടാൻ പ്രചോതനാമയെന്നും എമ്പയർ പോടിന്റെ ഒരാധ്യയത്തിൽ കേട്ടതിന്റെ കൗതുകത്തിൽ എവിടെയോ, യു. എ. ഖാദർ പാതി ബർമ കാരനാണെന്നും ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു തിരിച്ചുപോക്കിന്റെ കഥ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും അറിയാനായി.

തുടക്കം കുറച്ചിഴഞ്ഞിട്ടാണെങ്കിലും, പതിയെ മേപീൻ തീനിയെന്നു സഹപാഠികൾ കളിയാക്കുന്നതുമുതൽ കാഥികന്റെ ഓർമകളിലൂടെ ആ നാടുമായി ഒരു ബന്ധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാനായി.

ഖാദറിന്റെ വിവരണത്തിൽനിന്ന് ബർമ ഒരു പഴയ ദുബായ് ആണെന്ന് തോന്നും. എത്രപേരാണ് ധാനംതേടി നാട്ടിൽനിന്ന് അങ്ങോട്ട്‌ ചേക്കേറിയിരുന്നത്.

പിന്നെയൊരുകാര്യം, പുരോഗമന സാഹിത്യ സംഘത്തിന്റെ പ്രസിഡന്റ്‌ ആയിരുന്നു ഖാദറിന്റെ ഭാര്യയും മകളും പർദ്ദ ദാരികളെന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോൾ എന്തോ പന്തികേട് പോലെ തോന്നി.
