This wasn’t bad.
It was, in fact, terrible.
It had no relationship development whatsoever. The two went from “enemies” to “friends” to lovers in the span of four days but primarily engaged sexually. The intention of the relationship’s directions were unclear, fast, and incomplete. The hate between the protagonists was caused by some misunderstanding and unclear intentions when they first met, but the characters took a full turn when everything was explained, and suddenly we’re expected to accept and understand the feelings they had of each other. While Stefan had found Rand attractive since the moment he saw him yet didn’t like him because of how rude Rand came off to be, Rand’s character felt foreign, even after he admitted why he acted and felt the way he did. I don’t like this structure. If you want me to accept your character and understand their poor actions from the past, at least give their progression and transition a natural flow. If you’re going to change them in one go and form a relationship after a small and sudden change, you might as well focus on the character's individuality and their relationship arc. But if you’re not going to give me enough moments between the two, I’m not going to believe in their love. It makes it feel empty, incomplete, and even dull.
The story also lacked more backstory and time, and the pacing felt real off. One moment the two hated each other, and suddenly, right after they had sex for the first time, Rand was telling Stef he wanted to take him home with him to see the ranch and that he’s waited so long. It felt like the two were literally planning their future despite the fact that they “hated” each other like, two minutes ago.
The two have a small push and pull relationship that was probably added for the sake of adding drama in the book (since everyone and everything in this is perfect, true Mary Calmes style). Even being aware of this repeated structure, I couldn’t get behind the points the story missed out on. It feels like we hardly got to know the characters too, and there’s nothing but the basic premise of who they are that we know. The story is low angst/no angst, there’s no drama, and everyone is perfect. I know this is the same formula Mary uses in all her books, and I’m aware that spacing them out is probably the best idea. I’ve only read one book from her which I actually enjoyed (albeit forgettable) but this had similarities to it from the start that I couldn’t help but notice. Still, it wouldn’t have affected me at all if I had actually liked other parts of the book. No matter how repetitive a book can feel like the author's previous works, the potential to still be an enjoyable read is there. Yet, while Frog and this have some similarities (both have perfect families, perfect characters, no angst/low angst, almost no drama besides at the end, some inner angst), Frog’s execution was much better and believable. Its execution was more structured, well-rounded, and developed. It also offered more substance, which helped add to the relationships growth.
I also didn’t like how involved the family was, especially Charlotte with Stef. They all took up so much page time that could have easily been replaced with the two main characters. There were some unclear situations and suspicious characters that felt like they added no purpose to being written the way they were.
For two men who are complete opposites, from different areas, and were supposedly enemies, the two hardly got to know each other. This was lust at its finest. Not even the jealousy and possessiveness could make up for the lack of feeling this story had the potential to provoke in me. I’m a fan of these types of stories, the kind with the grumpy, misunderstood character in denial who falls for the social, beautiful, and very-well loved city boy who is open and proud, but this lacked everything I love—emotion, background, sexual tension, and tender moments.

This book is classic Mary Calmes.
Mary Calmes books are like chicken soup for the gay soul. Perfect men that everyone love, toppy tops and bottomy bottoms, insta love, cowboys, and hot sex- I mean, it is just what the doctor ordered. The perfect M/M pick me up.
However, this isn't my first Mary Calmes rodeo. While I enjoyed this, I also found myself growing a bit irritated at the out-of-nowhere love, the over-the-top gregarious MC, and the sex that was the same time and time again. I want some variation, Mary, pretty please. Her books remind me a bit of Kristen Ashley's M/F books: They are always the same characters in other character's bodies. Invasion of the body snatchers, yo.
Though this book made me smile, the angst-free simplicity just didn't completely satisfy me today.

I absolutely love Mary Calmes' writing style. More often than not it is ott, ridiculous and one of the heroes always seems to be worshipped by everyone. It's what I call classic Mary and I adore it ! Which is why I also own the paperback version and why I re-read it all the time... It's like a comfort food that never fails to make me feel better.
What Jory is to the Matter of Time series... Stefan is to Timing
Just like everyone else in this book...you can't help but love him 
(Jory is still my fave though)I've got to say that I really love this new edition cover and it is exactly how I picture Rand to be... Handsome broody cowboy...yummy
Stefan and Charlotte meet in college and become roomies and the best of friends. Stefan is gay and when Charlotte's rancher brother Rand shows up one day to check up on her, the snide comment he makes to Stefan sets the tone for their relationship for the next years to come...
Stefan goes out of his way to avoid being in proximity of Rand, but he is shit out of luck when Charlotte gets married. Guess he will finally have to come face to face to the man and guess what....things aren't always as they seem
It doesn't take too long for Stefan to convince Stefan to ride the cowboy !!
This book had me rolling my eyes so many times, they were starting to hurt...but so did face...from smiling so much !!
I can't help but like the crazyness, Mary Calmes creates... I have read this book so many times already, I can not give it less than 5 stars...
Highly recommended to fans of Mary !!

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW 1/10/2016

I'm still figuring my way around this whole audiobook thing. The majority of times, I listen to books I've already read...and that's been working for me. It's a new dimension to the story.
Now here's a new lesson I've learned: DO NOT listen to a narration of a book where one of the characters is a TOP 3 BOOK BOYFRIEND. HEED THIS WARNING! Why not? Well, when a character is that beloved, it's risky-as-f*ck to hear someone put a spin on him. And well...it's likely to fail.
Rand Holloway...my main cowboy squeeze...was read like a...small-town-high-school-play version of John Wayne. I just...could NOT take it seriously. It was...*sobs*...just awful. And I was mortified.
Not to mention that the narrator also read a side character (Ben) like Kermit the Frog. And every female character sounded like they were in their 70's.
Oddly enough, the narrator's "regular" voice, the one he uses for the main POV, is pretty good.
I just couldn't accept his reading of Rand. So for that, I was disappointed.

While searching for a new book to start, I randomly opened up Timing. And though I rarely reread, I just wanted something to get lost in. I still enjoyed it. I think Stef irritated me more this second time around. But Rand took my breath away x1000000 this time, so it all evens out. I'll stick with my original rating of 4 stars. Yes, ridiculous. Yes, over the top.
And YES! YES! YES!....RAND!!!!

I don’t care that Mary Calmes is the queen-o-fluff.
I don’t care that every one of her books is a form of the other.
I don’t care that I may have cavities after reading this.
I JUST ADORED IT.
"Timing" (aka “Jory & Sam go to Texas”) was everything that I want and need from Calmes.
The equation is simple:
Stef (aka better-than-Jory, aka “the-most-beautiful-man-in-the-world-that-can-do-no-wrong-that-women-and-men-straight-and-gay-alike-all-want”)

I 've read this charming book so many times and (for some reason) have never sat down to review it properly... This is the book that made me a fan of Mary Calmes and one I return to often.
This is easily one of my favorite M/M romances ever written, showing economy, precision and fierce sexuality that rewards multiple rereads. Mary Calmes has a (well-deserved) reputation for writing delightful contemporary gay romance, and in truth this book may be the best single expression of her many talents for a reader who hasn’t taken a look at her work. The simplicity of the setup is deceptive, and a lot of the book’s success relies on Calmes’ mastery of “category” romance. It’s a stunner, but in a completely understated way.
EVERY time I read it I learn something about romantic craft. This get cited in hundreds of M/M lists as a "comfort read" for a reason. The dialogue is hilarious, the dynamics are warm and believable, even the suspense subplot is handled deftly. Calmes’ affection for her two heroes (Rand in particular) cooks off the page. The blistering sex scenes and the complex family around these characters only add to the experience. The first time I read the book I felt like I KNEW these characters and their world, and having grown up with a family ranch, that’s saying something. Even better, every reread has revealed more telling detail and rich specifics. Not only do I recognize these people, I feel like they would recognize me. LOL What’s most satisfying, is that when I revisit the book, the subtlety of the relationships seems to shift and refract and change. Stefan and Rand get me every fucking time, but they seem to change tactics, too, while I've been off reading other books. Amazing.
The sex is insanely hot, obviously. That’s a given with this author…but it’s also heartbreaking and visceral and human. Mary Calmes never gives any of her characters hollow “fucktimes” but in this book their escalation of intimacy is architectural and mindful. Calmes uses words and images to assemble kinks and vulnerabilities for both her men (and other characters besides).
Rand is an idealized cowboy and Stefan is an idealized hipster, but in a way the idealization is the point. Above all, this is a book about assumptions, romantic and otherwise. The thing that some reviewers seem to miss is that this book's two gorgeous, charismatic, beloved heroes may LOOK perfect, their appearances create all of the tension and conflict that makes this story so rewarding. Rand and Stef are NOT perfect and grow exponentially over the course of the novel. The story isn’t about a seduction that takes place in one weekend, but rather of a courtship that takes over a decade to complete.
TIMING, indeed.
Moreover, the rich backstory between the lovers makes for some heartrending intimacy. Stef and Rand are anything but generic or bland; how could they be? Each man comes with baggage and pain and a keen sense of time slipping away, of opportunities missed. Their growth is not external or blurb-friendly, but it's unforgettable. Both men are also cranky, blinkered, and hemmed in by their looks. The irony of readers making the same mistakes about these men that they make about each other is not lost on me. Beautiful people rarely find their lives made easier by bone structure and breeding.
Cleverly, Mary Calmes gives herself two intensely charismatic characters and then makes that charisma a source of anguish. Fucking brilliant and impossibly romantic. In one neat dart the book’s heroes can have charmed lives AND can be troubled by those charms. And their weaknesses and expectations reflect their upbringings and the (fabulous) people who populate the pages around them, an organic commmuity that keeps reminding them how charmed they are, for good or ill.
Those minor characters deserve mention as well; each cast member is memorable in voice, appearance, and actions…from the groom’s mis-dressed mother to an uncle who likes his women plump. And each one of those “minor” presences drive the story forward beautifully.
If you read gay romance you should have read this book already. If you haven’t read gay romance before, this book is a fabulous starting point.

He was right, I was very careful with my heart.
"But this mornin' when you first opened your eyes and looked at me, just for a second before you remembered that you're supposed to be on your guard with me... the trust that was there... Jesus, Stef. Your eyes were so soft and the way you look at me, the way you always do, like I'm a gift... how could I not be in? How could I not want you right here with me?"
RAND AND STEF LITERALLY HAVE MY WHOLE HEART. 💘💘
no bc this was my first Mary Calmes book and it was the perfect introduction for me bc it had all my fav things in a romance: possessiveness, jealousy, the passion, emotional and great banters/connection between the mcs. 🥺 so i'm definitely planning to read more of her backlist!! i just loved everything about this book tbh. <3

The sheer number of times I've reread this series makes me have to bump it up to 4 stars. Damnit, but Stef and Rand get me every time.
Stefan is damn-near perfect: gorgeous, inexhaustible charm, sarcastic and snarky, and of course everyone loves him and wants to touch him and both men and women want to be with him. His only flaw is he tends to disappear if someone tries to get to close, or conversely, appears to not need him anymore.
Rand is the practical, salt of the earth type who's always got the answer, a single-minded focus, and has to be right. Rand has always wanted Stef, but royally screwed up their original meeting, which set the tone for the rest of their time together. Though Stef has always viewed them as enemies, Rand's actually wanted Stef for years and has now lined everything up in his life in order to finally make his play. Their passion is explosive and Calmes makes the sex scenes scorching hot!
There's also a mystery side plot that has Stefan in danger that spices up the plot quite a bit as well.
This is a fun enemies-to-lovers romance with some mystery, suspense, and humor, a bit of angst, HOT sexy times, and a happy ending.

This, though still enjoyable, is not, for me, one of Mary Calmes' best.

This is a fun enemies-to-lovers romance with some mystery, suspense, and humor, a bit of angst, HOT sexy times, and a happy ending.

You know, I actually quite liked this one to begin with. The premise was interesting. Stefan and Charlotte are long-time BFFs. Rand is Charlotte's brother. Rand and Stefan seem to hate each other.
I usually dig the whole enemies to lovers thing.
Too bad they went from enemies to lovers faster than the speed of light.
IDK, I just didn't buy it.
And after a while Charlotte and Stefan's relationship, while just friends, started to annoy me. Charlotte was too clingy and dependent on Stefan.
I think it's me. Something's wrong with me.

A few things I learned from Mary Calmes' books.
- Mary Calmes does NOT like condoms. I’m sure she has a latex allergy or she is traumatized by a bad experience. Because no one is using them in her books. There is always some excuse as to why they should skip it, even the first time together. Come on, let’s just have unprotected sex NOW!
- One of the characters is a man with such charisma that everyone likes him, all the time. And this person is so beautiful that everyone wants to touch him all the time. And of course he lets them.

My first book by this author and I couldn't get enough. I really loved this one! I've read it in one sitting. The action was engaging, the characters were great. Loved the chemistry!!! Looking forward to reading the next book!

4.25 The look on his face, like I was just endearing and mesmerizing all at once, it was too much for me to resist. I stepped into him, my hand around the back of his neck as I eased in close and lifted up for the kiss. Stars.
“Aw, for crissakes,” I yelled hoarsely, holding him in my arms. Who actually fainted at the sight of blood?
Stefan and Rand have been enemies for years, taking each and every opportunity to annoy and shame each other. When his best friend, Charlotte, is getting married, her brother Rand and Stefan are forced to spend time with each other... and they may not have actually hated each other all along...
The narrator is awesome! He's very enthusiastic and fun to listen to. Although, it was hard to tell who was doing what, and missing parts- but that may have been the book itself...
Rand and Stefan are so cute! It's low on angst, really, it's light and fluffy... until 3/4 through, when Mary throws her trademarked punch; drama! Shootings. Stabbings. Drownings and I don't know what else!
Rand... num, num!
He was tall, probably six-four, built like a swimmer with broad shoulders and a wide chest that narrowed to lean hips, and from them way his clothes clung to him, he was covered from head to toe in thick, corded muscle. His hair was so black it had blue highlights in it, and his eyes were a piercing turquoise blue, like the sky on a cloudless day. From the chiselled features to the bulging biceps to the way his jeans hugged his long, muscular legs and tight ass, he was utterly breathtaking...
Really enjoyed the first half where their relationship was developing, although I didn't enjoy the last part, where
I really enjoyed the close female friend, and how they met! lol! Although I still want to know why she moved in with someone else, instead of just living with Stefan.
The sex scenes were hot... but I prefer intense kissing scenes, and there weren't any!
A really enjoyable listen/read though, and was perfect for my 8.5 hour train journey... although it didn't last the whole way.
My favourite quote...
“You comfortable?” he asked snidely after he told everyone else he was heading up to bed, since some people had to get up early in the morning to work the ranch. “Think you’d still be if everybody knew?”
“Knew what? That I’m gay?” I asked him, grinning like crazy. “I dunno, maybe.”
Watching his face fall was priceless.
“Stef told us about that,” his uncle Lincoln told him. “I say what a man does in his own bed is his own business. Ain't that right?”

4 Happy Stars - Super Über Sweet & Yummy Joy
I'd not read that many Mary Calmes (just three) and they might not been my favorite books neither, but nice, smexy and all "heartwarmers". As Heather said so well and wisely in her 3 stars review:
Well, I was in the mood for a "Pick Me Up" story. It was the right time to listening to a smexy sweet Mary Calves novel.
Lesse than a day later:
Wow! This was a audio-gem that made me so happy.
I'm actually surprisingly pleased. I loved this yummy sweet cowboy love story. ~ I want me a wonderful cowboy Rand-man as well.

Our main character Stefan Joss is visitning in Texas to join his best friend Charlotte's wedding. There in Texas is of course also Stefan's long time (10 years) 'enemy" Rand Holloway, the bride's big tough brother. If you ask Stefan is Rand a homofobic, but very manly sexy Texas cowboy. He is also the man who now is running the Holloway family ranch.
Stefan can't stand this awful Rand-man, but he can't keep dreaming (wet naughty..) and sneak peek at those muscular arms. Rand might also have some other feelings than we first thought.
It begins to steam tempting hot at the ranch...
Angry glances, harsh words, quips, one touch, one word and some far too intimate encounters etc. ~ Just guess the rest.

Timing felt like equal parts comedy as a hot romance. Maybe that made this story even better as an audio? Some of the narrators Sean Crisden character voices was quite silly and ridiculous but he made this to a really amusing story to listening to anyway. ~ I liked his style and way of reading this story for me.

I've to admit that I didn't think I should like this one so much as I actually did. As much as this is a kind of light, very cute, steamy gay romance is Timing also a entertaining story about a wedding week. Many nice second characters and indeed also some memorable stuff about a bride's last night anxiety, best friends and cowboy-life.
We get two MC's which actually dare to forgive, take the moment, feel big emotions and to try something new and unknown (GFY). I loved these guys and their wonderful love-story. I belived in them.
Sometimes is this almost "top limit", with a high risk of being silly cheesy and too sugary sweet. Yes, yes!! - well you need to have fun too. Right? ~ Though, which romance-loving M/M reader can resist these hot, pumping dominant top-men and these panting thankful bottoms? If you get it all served with a twinkle in the eye, as well. ~ Not this lady anyway.

Timing is a amusing and quite steamy "I Met a Cowboy" romance with a shorter (some years later..) sequel (After the Sunset). I'm convinced by now that I might have taken to hasty conclusions and should make further attempts to Ms. Calmes' books in the future. Maybe they fit extra well in the audiobook format as well. This was superbly enjoying to listening to.
A hilarious smexy audio M/M for 5:40 listening hours. Recommended if you need something simple.

Blonde haired, green-eyed Stefan is in his late 20s,
very handsome, and gay. Stef has gotten along with Charlotte's family, for the last ten years, he helped put her through college, and much more, but he'd not gotten along with her brother. He and Rand do not get along. Once in Texas, Rand offers to call a truce with Stef, so Charlotte's week of wedding fun will be fight free.
* Rand, 31, is a tall wall of muscled cowboy,
black hair, turquoise eyes, and strong, sturdy man, who has always given Stef a hard time.
For work, Stef goes to meet with the lovely lady who can't decide if she should sell her ranch, like all her neighbors did. Stef tells her to think more about it, and he's check back before he leaves town. He concentrates on Char's activities, and there is something everyday.
Little did Stef know that Rand had been preparing for his visit behind the scenes, setting up his ranch and businesses so that once he was ready, he declare himself.
turns out the powerful Rand, has set his sights on Stef, and won't be taking no for an answer.
* These two men's times together are hotter than a sizzling steak, and with emotions deeper than any well.
I loved Rand's plain talk, plus his demeanor is all cowboy, and Stef can hardly believe this is happening. Rand puts his cards on the table, and Stef cannot resist. Rand is a perfect example of GFY, gay for you, as he is only interested in Stef, no other man will do.
I loved the cast of divine characters. Charlotte's fiancé, Ben is awesome. The parents, Uncles, everybody is wonderful, and I loved this story so much. Mary Calmes beautiful writing, has captured my heart with he characters before, but this was special.
Much is happening, with the wedding, the resort deal they need the land for, a few homophobes, and Stef's missing boss. There is some fighting, violence, and a rescue, so we get a lot to see. There is never a dull moment.
Phil... Stef delivers him...
The wedding is splendid, fun, and the whole story is lovingly tender. I can't tell any more, so you'll have to revel in this amazing story for yourselves.
I highly recommend this cowboy romance and all that goes with it.

Best Buddy Read Ever with my pal Red!
The following review contains instances of squeeing, swooning and fangirling. May cause bleeding of the ears and eyes to roll right out of your head.
PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
I have read this book so many times, y’all! Seriously. I think my latest count is eleventy kajillion and one. This is my go-to comfort read. Whenever I have a book hangover and I need to cleanse my palate for my next read, I read this book. When I finish a particularly dark or depressing book, I read this to make me feel happy again. If I read a terrible book, I pick this up to remind myself there’s good stuff out there. Whenever I’m bored, I’ll read this book. And, whenever I’m jonesing for some good ole Calmes Crack, I get my fix right here.
So, when Red agreed to buddy read this with me I was over the moon! Immediately the emails started coming in.
Red: "It’s been killing me since that first day when I walked in and you looked up at me and it was like I got hit by lightning.”
“Fighting with you was all I had, you know?”
“You know how sick I am of watching other people touch you?”
The man had it really bad for me, and I never had a clue.

I read and re-read this book for many reasons, the biggest one being Rand. He’s the epitome of book boyfriends. He’s perfect in every way. The man can be such an asshole but the minute he opens his mouth all is forgiven and I’m swooning like a proper Southern lady.
“Kiss me,” he said, his eyes locked on mine, absorbing me. “Just once. If it’s bad, if I freak out or if you do… fine, we’ll forget all this.” It wasn’t a good idea. “Come on, you have nothing to lose. “I have you to lose, and I just got you,” I confessed, terrified. “You’ll never lose me, I swear.”
“Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited?”
“You’re gonna be mine.”
“You know, you look really good under me. I knew you would.”
“I have to be closer,”
“You fit me just right,”
“I can’t seem to let go.”
“You get that I’m not leaving your bed, right?”
See??? How can you not fall in love with this guy? Now, going by the quotes above, you would think Rand is a perfect gentleman. Maybe a bit mild mannered. You would be wrong. Rand is the Alpha male to end all Alpha males. He’s strong and confident and growly and bull-headed. He sees what he wants and takes it and fuck anybody who gets in his way. He takes not one single shit from anyone. But most of all, what makes him so truly magnificent to me is his heritage. You see, Rand is what we native Texans call a Good Ol’ Boy. A little bit of rough mixed in with classic Southern gentleman. And it is shown most clearly through his words. What I like to call Texasisms.
“That dog don’t hunt.”
...he got a wild hair up his butt…
“You’re gonna be sorry,” he growled at me. “I am fixin’ to put you over the hood of my truck if you don’t quit.”
It’s like music to my ears, that way of speaking. As I am a displaced Texan who has been away from my home state for far too long, I sometimes get a little bit homesick. But reading words like these eases the heartache some by making me feel like I’m home. I can actually hear the accent in my head when reading and let me tell you, Rand has the sexiest voice! Sort of a cross between Randy Travis and George Strait.
“You were made just for me,” he said, leaning back and panting, staring down into my face. “Only for me… this is gonna be a forever thing, Stef, me and you.”
*sigh*
Anywho, as hard as it is to believe, there’s a lot more to this book than just Rand. This has all the cracky goodness you’ve come to expect in a Mary Calmes book. There’s action and adventure, an MC who is golden-perfect and everyone loves him (especially women), orphans, murder and, of course, some seriously hot love scenes. I mean, hot damn Mary can write passion like no other! Makes me break out in a sweat just reading it.

Red: And I read it at work! It was so hot. I loved Rand being all I need to be inside you... He gets dirty when they do it in the laundry room too. SO GOOD.
And Mary Calmes writes mature, thought provoking literature that makes me feel smarter just from having opened the book. It’s so proper I feel as though I should get dressed up in my Sunday best before reading.

Last but certainly not least, I feel I must comment on the new cover. Because damned if that ain’t Rand gracing it. I thought about finding some hot cowboy gifs and pics for my review but really, what can compare with that cover? My mama always said don’t mess with perfection and that cover is so freaking perfect so no cowboys pics for this review.
So, what did we learn from this review? Probably not much of nothin’ except that Rand is perfect, Mary Calmes is a goddess and Jenni Lea has a serious addiction to crack. I am a Calmes Crack Whore and proud of it. If you're looking for a coherent review, you'll have to read Sara's below 'cause all I've got left to say is a bunch of squees and sighs and words of praise to She Who Can Write No Wrong.
Now, excuse me while I go read this again and again. I'll be gone awhile so don't wait up!

I got into this one after several people recommended it to me, and was it exactly what I expected even before setting my eyes on the first page?
Was that a bad thing? HELL NO.
If you haven’t read this but you’ve read any other Mary Calmes book, then you know the formula by now. Protagonist with Gary Stu tendencies (in this case Stef, the city slicker who accompanies his longtime BFF to her wedding by the countryside), and the grumpier, considerably more emotionally stunted love interest (aka the BFF's older rancher brother, Rand). Despite this not being anything new under the sun, however, I’m not afraid to say I’m the kind of basic bitch who falls for it every time.
The romance was front and center here, as it should, yet even when some of the drama ended up being a bit silly towards the end, I was way too busy swooning over the cowboy deliciousness that was Rand to give a crap.
My thoughts on him summed up in a single quote:
Because same, Stef. Sameeee.
The man was every romance fantasy of a stoic yet caring cowboy made reality. And he was surprisingly willing to communicate with Stef on several occasions where situations were primed for miscommunication, admitting wrongdoings and proving he was willing to do whatever it took to get his HEA with his man. For him, Stef was “the one that got away”, and while reading I definitely got the impression that these two were written in the stars from the start. As obvious as the title is, it really was truly all about timing for them.
And lastly, when these two came together, boy was it magic for me. The steam was off the charts, as well as the chemistry that just poured off from them whenever they interacted. They couldn’t keep their hands off once the hesitant first steps were taken.

For him, Stef was “the one that got away”, and while reading I definitely got the impression that these two were written in the stars from the start. As obvious as the title is, it really was truly all about timing for them.
And lastly, when these two came together, boy was it magic for me. The steam was off the charts, as well as the chemistry that just poured off from them whenever they interacted. They couldn’t keep their hands off once the hesitant first steps were taken.

I am soooo happy to be out of my slump!!!
Timing by Mary Calmes just pushed all the right buttons. This was a hot, romantic, with a sprinkle of mystery enemies to lovers story.
What I loved:
*Rand.
Loved. Everything. About. Him.
*Stefan. What can I say I loved him too.
*The secondary characters. Great family.
*As I'm sure you've gathered- the smoking hot sex.
*The relationship between Rand & Stefan. LOVED the build up.
*The friendship between Charlotte and Stefan.
*I prefer a dual POV but being only in Stefan's head worked. He was funny & witty.
*Normally I'm not a fan of mysteries but this one didn't bother me because it wasn't a huge part of the story. It was the perfect mixture of romance & suspense for me.
*It was a light fluffy feel-good story.
There's really nothing I'd change about this one, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a steamy fun read. There is a book 2 but this one doesn't end on a cliffy. It leaves off in a good place.

You know what?? Mary Calmes has a formula. It is consistent, it is expected, and I don't think I fully appreciated it until now. But I get it. I embrace it.
So this is a perfect example of what many of my peeps call "Calmes crack".
Take one popular, beautiful and coveted gay man. Add in a supposed straight, tough alpha. Mix and shake and toss and you've got a sexy, over the top, ridiculous romance that just works. Every time.

My first ever Mary Calmes book was a raging success!
I literally couldn’t put it down.
Granted, this was fairly corny, with a really strong insta-love feel to it (regardless of the fact that the two MCs have known each other for over 10 years – there coming together still felt very sudden and unrealistically intense).
But you know what?.... I loved every single minute of it!!
The characters were great fun. I pretty much adored everyone, except for the big-bad, because reasons! Rand may have been a little bit unrealistically perfect too, but that’s kind of why I liked him so much – I read to escape reality, people, so unbelievably romantic cowboys are what I’m after in this instance. Thanks!
I also had several really good chuckles! (Just me?!) This shit was funny!
I better mark this day in my calendar, because I have a feeling my forthcoming “book-affair” with Mary Calmes is going to be intense and memorable.
I'm a dismal excuse for a BR partner! My sincere apologies, dear R!

One of the most OTT books I’ve read lately.. I won’t bother mentioning all the OTT moments in this book, I will just summarize my review by saying that there is no relationship building here. They hated each other and then they suddenly didn’t; they were in love and fucking like bunnies. But what was really really OTT and kind of eww was Stef’s relationship with that woman and I really felt sorry for her husband because he was her second best . She would have gladly married Stef if he had agreed . I found it very weird and unhealthy her dependency and her clinginess on Stef. In conclusion, it’s a very enjoyable book of you like relationships with no depth or growly and perpetual horny alpha cowboys.

I have no idea what it is about the Mary Calmes version of over the top cray cray that makes me love it so much. Seriously, it's like her books are dipped in the strongest, most addictive drugs known to man. I can't get enough. I loved this the first time I read it, and that continues to be the case now. I love Steph and Rand (Jory/Sam, Jin/Logan, Nathan/Dreo, Cyrus/Weber, etc...). I love the dynamic that Mary creates. Mary's books are my crack. I am not ashamed.

I've finally popped my Mary Calmes cherry! And hot damn, it was good for me!
I've heard so many great things about Mary Calmes' books and have been told that her writing is like good street crack....and well, I have to agree! There's something easy breezy about her writing. It flows effortlessly and engages you from the very first page.
Stefan and Charlotte have been best friends since meeting freshman year in college. Stefan doesn't have any family and easily falls into Charlotte's. Well, with everyone except her homophobic, arrogant and ass of a brother Rand. The two men in Charlotte's life spend the next ten years butting heads and arguing at every encounter.
And now, Stefan is in Texas for Charlotte's wedding. He's excited to be spending the weekend with his best friend and stand next to her for the happiest occasion of her life. What he didn't expect was a from-left-field change of heart from her brother, Rand. But was it from left field? Has Stefan missed the clues that Rand has been dropping? Is there a reason for his behavior over the years towards Stefan?
It was insta-everything from the moment these two hit the page together. Rand's aggression was both hot and endearingly vulnerable. He finally decided to dig his boots in and tell.....and most definitely show....Stefan how he's felt all these years. And whoa cowboy, I'll take Rand's brand of show and tell any day of the week!
I absolutely lusted after these two! Stefan was so easy to like. He was fiercely protective of Charlotte and fit seamlessly into her family and gaggle of bridesmaids. His charm was hypnotic and adorable. Rand was a macho, Alpha cowboy with never-ending testosterone, a raging libido and an open heart.
Once Rand opened the door to a relationship with Stefan, he held nothing back. However, it was Stefan who had issues. Having no family, he's used to depending solely on himself. Never getting too close to any man. Why wait for them to eventually leave you when you can walk away first?
"You're so beautiful, Stef...and cold and hard and fiercely independent...it's scary how careful you are not to need anybody."
There was a wonky mystery/suspense element thrown in that felt oddly out of place with the easy flow and setting of the story. And on top of that, a past revelation from Charlotte about a dark day in her and Stefan's history that left me scratching my head. After a couple of chapters, I kind of understood why it was in there (though definitely not to that extreme), but I was still wearing my WTF squint.
Charlotte plays a prominent role in the book and I must say I had a 60/40 relationship with her. I loved her 40% of the time and the other 60% I wanted to reach into my kindle and choke the shit out of her. She was quirky and funny, yet ridiculously co-dependent and whiny.
Overall, this was a fantastically charming and steamy read. I'm so excited that I have a plethora of Mary Calmes books to sink my teeth into!

Back on the crack! The Calmes crack. Schmoopy and ridiculous, but so good. There's no understanding why this trope-laden Hallmark meets Lifetime book is enjoyable, but it is.
No shots were drunk, I lost the Emma game link and it's more fun to play while the DH is on travel. Otherwise, sitting, doing shots of booze alone while reading looks suspect.

What can I say? I love Mary Calmes's formula, I do! We can see Jory/Sam in this book, but in a different location, with different names, but here they are: incredible handsome man, everyone wants him, and the man he loves, one hell of an alpha male, powerful, possessive, beautiful, and that is completely in love with him.
And the sex scenes... amazing!
Even being the same characters/different plot, I loved it!
