"What if you didn't have to stop kissing him, Memphis? What if you didn't have to choose me over him?" --Brennan

Memphis
At thirty-four years old, ex-DEA agent Memphis Wheland has lived, loved and lost...everything. The ultimate betrayal by the man he gave everything to has left Memphis with no family, no career and a bone deep bitterness that refuses to release him from its icy grip. His work with an underground vigilante organization is the only light in his otherwise bleak existence. That and the occasional no-strings hookup with men whose only focus in that moment, and for as long as Memphis wants them, is him and only him. No clingy exes, no unrequited love, no relationship drama. Period.

Because Memphis has one rule that he won't break for anyone or anything. He doesn't share.

Ever.

Now if only someone had told that to the young man who would come into his life in the most unexpected way...

Brennan
With his entire life ahead of him, graduate student Brennan Devereaux wasn't expecting it to change in the blink of an eye. But when a case of mistaken identity nearly costs Brennan his life, it isn't just his future that's about to change, but his past too. Because for years he's been in love with a young man who only sees him as a friend and nothing more. And while he was content to love Tristan Barretti from afar, he hadn't expected to be drawn to the mysterious stranger who saved his life and changed it with a simple promise.

I'm not letting you go.

They were words spoken in the heat of the moment as the darkness of death had threatened to claim him, but even as Brennan's love for Tristan refuses to wane, his need for the intriguing Memphis Wheland continues to grow.

But any relationship with Memphis means he has to let go of the one thing in his life he's always valued above everything else...

Tristan
At nineteen, Tristan Barretti should have had the world at his feet. His musical gifts have garnered him prestige as well as admission to the famed Julliard School in New York and he has a family that most people would kill for. But the protective bubble his fathers have kept him in has burst and he's discovered that life outside his unconditionally loving family isn't as accepting of a kid born with HIV. A poor decision to find answers to questions better left unasked, along with the complications of living with his disease, have Tristan returning to Seattle and the solace of his family.

And to the young man he's wanted from the time he was barely old enough to even understand what that meant.

But with an uncertain future that leaves him nothing to offer the gorgeous and successful Brennan Devereaux, Tristan knows the best he can hope for is to keep building on the friendship they've shared for years and not get his hopes up that Brennan will be the one man who sees him and not his disease.

Except all bets are off when danger follows him home...

Choices
Even though a physical relationship with Brennan was supposed to be just that, Memphis finds himself unable to refuse his young lover's request to help put a stop to the threat against Tristan. Even knowing full well that Brennan's heart lies with the man he claims is nothing more than a friend, Memphis accepts the challenge of ensuring Tristan's safety.

Not my favorite book in the series: nearly all the interactions between the men were sexual, and the drama and angst felt overwhelming.

We have Tristan's HIV+ status, as well as the situation with his biological father, Memphis' guilt and painful past, and then the abduction and .

The latter especially was gratuitous; why go there at all? The villain was evil incarnate and came out of nowhere.

The steam level in this one was off the charts (the word "cock" was used 124 times!), but I thought much of the character and relationship development was sacrificed as a result.

The connection between Memphis and Tristan, especially, came out of nowhere. Memphis held his hand, and Tristan fell in love. The emotions rang false.

I also wish the age gap had been explored more. Tristan was only 19.

I liked Princess Tinkerbella, and the HEA was sweet as always (although the whole family witnessing the reunion was just weird), but overall the story didn't fully engage me.

Closer to 2.5 stars, rounded up.

I just can't get enough of this series (or any of the others)...I hope there will be many more books to follow, because once again, I loved this one !!

We were introduced to Memphis and Brennan in the previous book, when Memphis saved Brennan's life when all hell broke lose.

Memphis has had his eye on Brennan for some time (from a distance), but after saving his life and actually being close to him, he now knows he's very attracted to the man.

FOTO BEWERKEN - makkelijk online je foto's bewerken of aanpassen  FOTO BEWERKEN - makkelijk online je foto's bewerken of aanpassen

The problem however, is that Memphis isn't looking for a relationship. He's been in one of those and that didn't work out so well for him. Now he is only interested in sex, but only if it's by his rules. Being with Brennan would definitely break at least one of his rules, because Brennan confessed, when he thought he was dying, that he loved someone else. That someone being Tristan.

FOTO BEWERKEN - makkelijk online je foto's bewerken of aanpassen

Memphis is not interested in guys who are hung-up on someone else, or are in some other kind of man-drama and he will never ever share the man he is with, even if it is just about sex. So that would leave Brennan out.

Brennan has been in love with his friend Tristan for a long long time, but since Tristan is straight, he knows his chances are slim to none. When Memphis comes into his life, Brennan is happy that he finally feels something for someone else. Event hough he can't fully let go of Tristan, he feels an amazing attracting towards Memphis and he is ready to explore the chemistry that is sizzeling between them. He knows Memphis is only looking for a hook-up, but something tells him, there might be more....

But what will happen with the two of them, when Tristan is in need of help and the three of them will have to work together....

This is all you're gonna get from me, because I think it's best to read this book without any big spoilers.

I do however want to explain some of the dynamics, because all the characters can get a bit confusing after so many books.

Memphis works for Ronan (Salvation, protectors serie). He is former DEA agent turned vigilante. Brennan, is Dom and Logan's adopted son (Logan's need, escort series). Tristan is Zane's halfbrother (Freeing Zane, baretti security series)

Now you won't have to read all these books, to understand the storyline. This is written as a stand alone, but I do think you're missing out if you don't :)

I'm always a bit wary when it comes to mmm books, because I don't want anyone to be left out, but I enjoyed this one very much, just as I enjoyed Ren's book. These men were awesome together and very hot !!

I would advise everyone to read the warning that comes with this book though, because there are some scenes that could be a trigger. Which are scenes that broke my freaking heart !!

I loved all three characters in this book and they all had something that made me want to hug them. Tristan for how he felt about being sick. He has HIV, which is not a spoiler. Memphis for his heartbreaking past and Brennan for being the awesome stand-up man that he was, always ready to sacrifice himself for his loved ones.

I read the sneak peek of the next book and I'm so very curious...can't wait. Keep them coming Sloane Kennedy !!!!

This is the fifth book in the "Protectors" series !!!

This is the 5th book in Sloane Kennedy's Protector Series and it just seems like each one gets better and better! While I have loved each and every character she has given us in this series, I have a special place in my heart for these three men - Brennan, Tristan, and Memphis. These three are exactly what each other needs - they keep each other in line, they keep each other happy, they keep each other sane. While some may not understand why a relationship would have to have more than two people in it.. sometimes, I wonder are we - those of us in the heteronormative relationship wrong? Are we the ones who have it backward? If three people, four people, or even five people can find a way to be happy, in love, and have a committed, functional relationship then who are we as a society to say it's wrong? In this book, we watch as two men who have known each other for years, Brennan and Tristan - move beyond friends and also fall in love with Memphis, a broken man who doesn't feel like he deserves to be loved. So it makes sense it takes double the love to help Memphis come back from the edge.. and Tristan and Brennan have a lot of love to give!

tumblr_n4fut7whli1qdgudso1_500

These three find out that they are exactly what each other needs, Tristan who is very helpful in making both the hard-headed Memphis and the scared Brennan see that if they can only get over their fears they will have something amazing - together.
"I was exactly where I was suppose to be and so were Brennan and Memphis. Now I just needed them to see that too."
I really don't want to spoil this story as I think Sloane has done an amazing job with three complex characters. In addition, she allows us to catch up with characters from past books and meet characters that we will get to read about soon.  I find myself falling deeper and deeper in love with these guys as we get to see them off to their happily-ever afters.  I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this book - except, it ended.  Other than that - I HIGHLY recommend this story and the entire Protectors series to all of you avid M/M fans and even those of you who are not yet, take a chance and fall in love with these rugged, raw, sexy stories. You won't be disappointed.

Dissenting opinion ahead!

Ugh...not my favorite book by the author, I'm afraid. This was one of those cases that I would have prefered the story to not be MMM. Had it been just Memphis and Brennan, which is exactly what it was until 20%, I would have liked it much better.

We already know that Brennan has been in love with Tristan Barretti for a long time. But after Memphis saved him, he started crushing hard on him too, and the feelings were mutual. Despite the insta-love central, I loved these two together; they had real chemistry, a very strong connection, and the sex was so very hot. But Memphis had demonds (and stupid rules), so he couldn't give himself to someone.

Enter Tristan, and that's where the story started falling apart for me. Tristan is very young (only 19 years old), and acts stupidly, which is the excuse that brought the three of them together. Tristan's connection with Memphis was way too insta....something. The kind of thing that creates electricity the first time people touch, you know?

After that, it is one tragedy after the other. Too many external events, too little relationship development, too much sex! Which is not a bad thing, when it's not all there is. The only time these three were together as a threesome, was when they were having sex.

The villain (the second one)....man, he was not just a villain. He was the devil himself, staight from hell! And I don't even know what his presence had to offer.

And then 80% happened. I STRONGLY advise you to NOT read the spoiler below, if you 're planning on reading the book. I tried not to include it, but there's no way around it.

This left such a bad taste in my mouth, that the ending didn't make it better. In fact, there were some holes, like Again, this was an important scene that should have been on page, instead of all the lengthy sex scenes and the brutal stuff.

One thing I have to mention, though, especially after the editing issues we see in self-published books lately, is that despite the number of secondary characters, I didn't notice a name swap. Not even once! Kudos for that.

Anyway, that's my two cents. I'm definitely the minority. The reviews are mostly positive, just didn't work out for me.

Re-read July 2023

I was in the mood for some Sloane Kennedy. Nice to see I still really love her books.

------------------

This was quite the angsty ride. And I loved it.

I wasn’t too sure of the first half when Brennan formed a relationship with Memphis while Tristan wasn’t in the picture yet. Especially since Brennan felt torn apart between two men, Memphis was moody and scared because he felt as if Brennan wasn’t completely his, and Tristan was convinced he could never have Brennan because he was in love with another man. Holy inner angst, Batman!

But once Memphis and Tristan got to know each other too, thing started to work out between the three of them. They still had a lot of issues to overcome, but at least they were together.

This had plenty of sex scenes and they were smoking hot!

I also really liked the action and excitement we got in the second half. Although I was a bit surprised at the Not because of the act itself, but because it was so late in the story. I was afraid we might not get the full comfort for this hurt, and while it was a little rushed, I was still happy with the comforting parts.

Overall, an angsty MMM with some really hot sex. Oh, with DP. DP is good. We like DP.

This book was heartwarming and brutal all at the same time. I never thought that there was this darkness creeping towards me when I was reading this. It’s almost 3 in the morning and I’m still crying. Fucking beautiful down to the bone.

Rounded down, because that thing that happens at 80% seemed completely unnecessary. I was really enjoying this read before that point. But the last 20%? Not really.

Tough to do this review.

I’m a huge fan of Sloane Kennedy, no question about that. Trust her to make a story packed of tension, holly hotness and emotions. A tiny bit close to OTT and insta-lust, but it works so well with her. Her books are always an auto-buy and my regular fix and treat. Even if MMM is not my thing, I don’t care when it’s with Sloane Kennedy.

Well, this time, the recipe didn’t really work that well with me :-(

This is the story of Brennan, who has been rescued by Menphis during a shooting that took place in the previous book of the series. The attraction between Brenann and Menphis is strong, blowing away Menphis’s mind and fear of attachments. But still, Brenann has been in love with his best friend, Tristan, for a very long time. Not going any further for not revealing the story.

Even though there were a lot of emotions and, as usual, off the charts chemistry and hot sex (like, really hot sex), the insta-connection between Tristan and Menphis when they first met was way too unrealistic. Despite the fact the relationship develops nicely from there, it did bother me. And for once, I would have liked a bit more of time outside of the bedroom (or the bathroom) between the MCs.

Also, I do like damaged heroes and angst. But be careful what you wish for : the last twist and drama at 80% of the book was too much and, imo, totally unnecessary and then too quickly wrapped up.

I still give it 3 stars (but it's more a 2,5 stars) for the hotness and because the first 20% of the book made me salivating. But this story is not my favorite of the series, nor my favorite book from this author.
That said, it won’t prevent me at all to read the next installment about Dante & Magnus…I’m already drooling.

Thank you Sloane, for pulling me back in the Protectors' world, where I wanted to scream, plead, beg, pray and cry tears of happiness. Through this whole series I've ran the gamut of emotions and it's a rollercoaster of ride that I don't want to ever get off. This book tells Memphis, Tristan and Brennan's stories who we were introduced to in #4. These men are each damaged in their own way and have tragedy in their pasts but they are also bloody beautiful inside and out. I do love a menage, especially the part when the characters just begin to feel the attraction and start to fall. Sloane crafts this so beautifully in each of her books and I can't get enough of it, I literally sit there choking with anticipation as the story unfolds. As I wouldn't dream of including any spoilers, I'll just say that this book fits perfectly within the series, it's brutal, shockingly so in parts, and then lifts you so high, it's a euphoric feeling that not many authors can get the reader to feel; I could name only 3 or 4 out of the hundreds of romance books I have on my Kindle. I loved this book and definitely felt emotionally drained and battered after reading it, Sloane tells it's so beautifully and it does hurt, but it's worth every damn minute of your time.

Spoiler tagging and I mean it. I'm discussing specifics so consider yourself warned!

* leave now or be spoiled *

I didn't love this one. Bottom line, though, it came down to the villains were horribly bad in a way that defied reason, the dramatic angst was unnecessarily brutal and there wasn't enough pay off with the throuple to make all of it worth it.

We had two sets of bad guys here. Both were blasts from the past and that added to the "too vicious to make sense after all these years" feeling that I had. Particularly the second baddie, he came literally out of nowhere just for the sheer sake of continuing to be evil.

And when I say evil, I mean evil. There is a trigger warning and I didn't dislike the two (2!) rape scenarios because they were a trigger. We were all well-warned. I disliked the scenes because they were gratuitous. And both involved vulnerable victims (the first was a developmentally delayed person and the second was a MC but in the presence of a child). Coming on the heels of Eli's story, I'm starting to think this might just be a thing this author does but it's pretty horrible particularly when it comes out of nowhere and doesn't seem realistic.

So our boys get through all that. They fall apart. Time passes and they are all separate. Seems like they work things out off page (mostly with other people) and then the grand gesture of two coming for the third (how did the two hook back up to begin with? Why not on page?) surrounded by millions of people. Wait, what? A triad, broken up after severe trauma, and they make up with an audience of the entire family.

My last beef was that the pay off wasn't worth the brutal events. The first part of this is set forth above. But further to that, this triad was an awkward one. It felt very much like someone was cheating on someone for a large part of this book, sneaking around, sneaking kisses, the guilt. It just felt squicky. This isn't a general MMM problem I have. Misfits and Golden Dancer are two off the top of my head that navigated brilliantly. I think there needed to be less external drama and more relationship building to make it seem real. There was great sex, that's for sure. But there wasn't great triad building. (Example: Memphis would cuddle and share with Tristan, not Brennan. Why?).

All in all, not my fave.

*** Memphis was the hero who saved Brennan's life when he was shot. He's wanted Brennan from afar, but this event brought them together. Brennan wants Memphis, wants to know him, but there's a hitch. It's Tristan. Yes, it's complicated. They all go to Ronan and Seth's wedding where Brennan kisses Memphis.

Sparklers ignite and it's amazing. Brennan wants more, a hotel, and a night of passion before Memphis goes home. Memphis has rules, and he doesn't share, and Brennan's okay with that, because Tristan is straight and he can't have him, but he's always wanted him.

So, Memphis and Brennan share a scorching hot night. When Tristan tells what he's been doing secretly and he's injured, he and Memphis bond. Memphis makes sure both men are protected and guarded. Lots of raw, dirty talk and emotional sex for Memphis and Brennan. When Tristan has feelings for Memphis, AND Brennan, things get complicated. Tristan is HIV positive from birth, is a virgin, and those conversations were well done. We learn about meds, PreP, and safety. Tristan had secrets to reveal, as well as Memphis had his, his job, and his past.

We are engrossed in these lives, so full of deep thoughts, needs and wants.
Tragedy strikes, a rescue is successful, more therapy is needed to progress from the brutality of the kidnapping. Lives are disrupted, but love is stronger.
I love this series and it's connections to the escort series.
Marvelous ! Great epilogue. Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Out of all Sloane's men who come with horrible past I think I got Memphis' actions the most. His desire to keep everyone at arm's length, his aloofness all made sense when he told his story to Brennan and Tristan. OMG, that was horrible. I then understood how much courage Memphis had to even consider opening himself up to TWO men, not one. I really liked him. His tenacity, his drive to protect and those moments when he let himself be seen were just precious.

My sweet Tristan! That boy didn't have it easy since birth. It's my first time reading a book with one of the MCs being HIV-positive, and I really liked that this particular aspect of life was written in positive light, how safe Tristan was made to feel, how both Memphis and Brennan just accepted him and everything about him. Tristan was so sweet, with a bit of vulnerability but still strong in times of adversity.

Brennan while having to grow up faster that he should still had life relatively untarnished by any tragedy. He was loved and cared for by his older brother Zane and his family. I liked his protectiveness over both Tristan and Memphis, his drive to fight for the three of them. The sacrifice he had to make in the end nearly broke my heart. There were moments when I thought these men would walk away from each other. But thankfully with the help of friends and family they were able to pull through and find peace and happiness again.

Very emotional, angsty and passionate story. I am really enjoying this whole series. This book is no exception. I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book, Tristan, Memphis and Brennan were so good together.

I like how Sloane made me fall for everyone of them and I never felt like Memphis and Brennan had a deeper connection or Brennan and Tristan. They all share different things with each other and in the end they were perfect.

I loved the fact that a character like Tristan exist! This is my first time reading about a character living with HIV and I loved how they were careful but at the same time didn't leave Tristan out of the sexy times.

I would have given this book a 5 star rating easily because I liked everything BUT there is a scene that was a bit much for me.
I was like "yes! Finally a book without that thing that I hate" but no can do, Sloane made me suffer, honestly my heart broke and those last few chapters were hard.

The tease for the next book was everything I didn't knew I needed.

2.5 disappointing stars 😢. I'm sorry, but it looks like I have a highly unpopular viewpoint on this. This book was just a bit too much for me; from the very beginning I had a hard time feeling any chemistry between Memphis and Tristan. Memphis and Brennan seemed good, but the relationship with Tristan was too insta for me. Nevertheless I don't expect a lot of bonding-outside-of-bed from Ms Kennedy, so I was slowly becoming ok about the hot trio; but then she threw a huge angsty wrench into the fragile throuple towards the end and it killed whatever good mojo there was. 😢😱Needless to say that the last 20% were absolutely horrific for me and despite the trigger warning I wasn't prepared for how ugly it got💔 Something that traumatic needs a lot of healing.. so let the healing begin.. I need some sugary-sweet books now.. 😍💕

I'm in the minority :-/. However as always, I must remain true to my opinion. Beware of potential spoilers ahead.

Keep in mind I wrote everything quickly, without editing and revising before hitting "save". If anything needs revising and/or editing, I'll do that later when I'm in front of my computer. Cheers!

This was a bummer. I was good until we hit 79% [even a little bit sooner] and beyond ...
My rating has NOTHING at all to do with the fact that there is rape here (or in a book) ... and I mean, AT ALL!! So trust me, that is not my issue. Goodness knows I've read many books with dark and tragic content. When it's a truthful depiction of what an MC has gone through. When, as a reader, I get to witness the MC's journey, fight, bravery, survival and victory. When there's a story behind, alongside, and at the end of it all.

What I DID have an issue with is the fact that the tragic brutality seemed to come out of nowhere, just for the sake of tragedy. I DO have an issue with rape being an exploited plot device just for the sake of tragedy and instilling grief, not only in the MCs, but in the readers who adore them. Because rape, even when confined within the virtual pages of a book, is soul shattering, heart wrenching, and tragic!

There are endless tragedies in the world (unfortunately) and there are so many challenges, obstacles, and injustices an MC can go through that will make a story deep, dark, and compelling. Rape however seems to be the easy (read: convenient) knee-jerk choice, and that irks me. I'm not saying authors shouldn't include it in their stories, not at all, unfortunately (yet again) it's an ugly component in the lives of too many, and the stories MUST be told. I AM saying that it shouldn't be the go-to tragedy of choice, just because there's a conflict that requires resolution, or so an outside force will push the MCs together. People band together in happiness just as much as they do in strife, and there's a discerning difference between conflict and tragedy.

In this particular case, more than anything else, the rape felt like a device used to further the clusterfuck of tragedies these men should have been granted a reprieve from. ESPECIALLY when it's so out of left field; even more especially when it's at 80% and you're thinking they're well on their way to a well earned HEA!!
The light at the end of the tunnel should have been the entryway into a glorious HEA, not merely the light of an oncoming train. While tragedy, torture and rape are ALWAYS senseless, ALWAYS needless, ALWAYS TRAGIC ... to pull them out of thin air without giving that tragedy a chance to offshoot journeys and purposeful direction, not to mention an incredibly invested (and glorious) HEA, makes absolutely no sense to me!

Something like what happened at 79% (onward) should have happened at the beginning of the book, or even the middle ... but it happens at the end, why?!? For what purpose??? There was nowhere to go from there; the ending too rushed to give Brennan and his men the healing and closure they so richly deserved! Ironically enough, the mere WRITING of the last 20% in and of itself was a tragedy, and did NOTHING for the first 79% of the book. I felt Memphis, Tristan, and Brennan deserved so much more than that [and were done a great disservice]. They deserved much, MUCH more!!

Additionally, I felt like the progression of this triad was sacrificed in favor of what happens towards the end of the book ... if this book were a duology within a series (kind of like an M/M nesting doll), my rating might have been different. Seeing as that isn't the case, the rating is what it is :-/! I really would have liked to give it more.

I recognize that I am very much in the minority here and that's totally fine. I don't plan on letting this impact my enjoyment of every other book of Sloane's that I own :-). I also recognize that Sloane is a very talented author who has a great many awesome stories to tell, stories I look forward to, stories you can definitely bet your ass I'll be reading :-)!!

*****

I was warned about this one, so I decided to read this now and clear it from my virtual shelf full of Sloane Kennedy books ;-).
I own the whole series and haven't cracked any of them open yet, which I plan to do of course, but am enjoying looking forward to it for now :-P. Anyway, I was promised it didn't matter what order I read these books in, so I decided to jump right in.
This is the only book in the series that I plan to read out of order however, and every other book WILL be read in running sequence (without any additional exceptions)!!

Let's do this!

Overall book rating: 4 Stars

This was the most confusing menage book I have read up to date!!! The dynamics left me so confused and on edge through out this book. It was a good book - just because there were little things I struggled with to understand doesn't make it a bad book it just means this book will fall under his own classification.

The book started out slow and then it hit you - all the sorrow, all the hurt and fuck so much pain.

I did struggle with some of the dynamics in this book. It felt like poor Brennan put in all the work and Tristen just swoops in and received all the rewards, but after a wile it all becomes clear and each one becomes special and amazing in his own special ways.

It took me a long time to get the courage up to read this one. I have to be in the right frame of mind to read one of Kennedy's angst fests. I really was liking this one a lot, but I felt like the violence was a little over done. I also agreed with others that the Drake storyline was OTT. Sex was really hot though and I enjoyed this book overall.

There is just far too much happening in this book. And don’t even get me started at what happens at the 80% mark. Why???

I just don’t think getting DPd has ever fixed or addressed any deep emotionally traumatic event. I mean, I’ve never tried it so what do I know. I assume talking to a trained professional to address these issues and focus on long term help would be more beneficial.

I would think being shot and nearly dying from being misidentified would also warrant professional help.

Maybe being born with HIV and being outed to strangers and then being not only ostracized but harassed because of that would warrant seeking professional help. Layer in some childhood neglect and abuse and you have a bit of a trauma trifecta.

Perhaps having your family murdered by someone you knew would trigger the need to talk to someone trained to address trauma. Or being love bombed and duped into an open relationship that not only left you feeling betrayed but also not good enough and worthless would warrant seeking help.

Not here. Not here - apparently sex fixes it all. It was like sex was used as a bandaid. These characters deserved more.

But for real. Why do some poly books rely on sex to such a degree that it detracts from the bonding between characters and just becomes a sex fest. Throuples are allowed to have actual conversations.

These characters were deeply deeply traumatized for a myriad of reasons and absolutely everything is dealt with by using sex.

Also, I didn’t love that instead of giving Memphis one loving and devoted partner who wanted only him he ended up with 2 much younger men - especially one that was 19 just felt kind of gross. Memphis was truly traumatized by the former open relationship and while poly and open are two different things, this just felt like a really weird and uncomfortable way to address his experience. And the fact that Tristan was 19 and completely inexperienced made his naive and he was written young!! I just didn’t think this fit. And the instaLove didn’t work here for me. It felt desperate rather than deep connections.

This is book 5 in this series and I am still chasing that angst, stomach in a knots feelings that I had in book 1.
This book had three love interests like book 1, but their journey to love was overwhelmed by so much sex.

In the last book, Brennan had been attacked by bad guys looking for his roommate. Memphis had rescued him and a bond formed between Brennan and Memphis. The first half of the book was Brennan and Memphis hooking up while Memphis tried to keep it strictly physical. Then Brennan's crush, Tristan, came into the picture and all of a sudden there was a threesome.

All characters were dealing with pretty heavy emotional baggage and thus there was a need for an emotional connection. I just didn't feel that chemisty. It was hot between Memphis and Brennan, I didn't feel it with Tristan other than they were trying to including the leftout kid.

It was okay, but it made me want to go back and listen to book 1. That book was everything! I will keep going with this series though.

A ver, a ver, a ver...

A ver, a ver, a ver..

5. Me causa gracia que después del escándalo que hizo Vin con Mia por la diferencia de edad, nadie en esta familia pestañeara cuando Memphis de 34 se enrolla con Tristan de dulces 19. Hmmm...

I am still on my Sloane Kennedy reading binge and I was keen to start Vengeance after what happened in Forsaken between Brennan and Memphis and of course I wanted to get to know Tristan Barretti better and maybe spend some more time with Dom.

Vengeance has everything I have come to love about this series and in this there are three guys Brennan, Tristan and Memphis so of course this is scorching with all the sex rough and sweet.

The emotions I felt while reading this was unbearable I felt so much for Tristan at the beginning I just wanted to hug him, then finding out about Memphis's past was tough to read and then what happens to Brennan broke my heart I was crying while reading that chapter how he sacrificed himself to protect Tristan so I was emotionally drained, thank god it all came together at the end with a little help from Dom (my obsession) and little Matty.

I loved catching up with some old favourites and how they have all become one massive happy family so many HOT men together.

For some reason I did not read the trigger warning in this book so what happened shocked me as I did not know it was coming so should I avoid them in future for a more suspenseful read or not???

I liked this a whole lot, up until the gratuitous thing that happened to Brennan, around 80% through. Authors, please stop using as a plot device. These guys have tragic enough back stories, without having to see that shit on page. This book would have been a solid 4 star read for me. I'm just glad other readers pointed it out in their reviews, so I at least knew that it was coming, but it still felt totally unnecessary to the plot. Kidnapping and maybe a beating would have been plenty, but you had to throw the "r" word into things too. Again.

I think I'm going to create a new shelf, just for authors.

These books are angsty backstory on steroids. So much crap in these dudes' lives, they make daytime soaps look like Disney shows. I can't take more than one at a time.

Damn what Sloane Kennedy does to me is nothing short of amazing. Vengeance was another beautiful, heartbreaking and intense Protectors story. Memphis, Brennan and Tristan were explosive. It was a perfect showing of two becoming three.

The three of them were believable. They has immense feeling towards each other, but the doubts were just as real.

There is a very intense scene that will be a trigger for many people. It was hard to read, both while it happened and the aftermath. Leave it to Ms. Kennedy to slice you open then stitch you back together.

Simply put...beautiful story. Cannot wait for Dante and Magnus! *claps*
