Sweet picture book that features a young girl who is "taking" her mom for a walk. Readers see mom through the perspective of a young child's eyes. On their walk mom reads, draws, plays in the sand, whines when it rains and watches the ants. The narrator is also busy caring for her mom by watching out for traffic, encouraging her to meet new friends and explore the world around her. When the weekend roles around, this young lady might just have to do the same for her dad.
Charming watercolor line art is reminiscent of vintage books from the 50's and 60's. Book is appropriate as a bedtime story or as a beginning reader.
This charming book is about a little girl who explains to the reader about the walks she takes with her mom.
"What does mom do during our walk?"
Well she does a whole lot of things: reads, draws, knits, sun tans when she can, whines when it rains, plays in the sand if she finds a sandbox and explores the micro world around her up close and engaged, just to name a few.
"And what am I doing?"
Well I take very good care of my darling mom. I make sure my mom is supervised at all times, is getting enough fresh air into her lungs and is learning to play with other moms in the neighbourhood. It's not an easy task I can assure you. Whew!
Exhausted from her reverse-parental duties the young girl realizes it's almost the weekend and that's when she focuses on the well-being of her indoor, computer-loving dad. His turn next! Oh my! Being a responsible kid can sure take a toll on you but her beloved parents are so worth the effort!
I love the idea that the little girl is in tune with her parents needs and health and is so willing to be there for them and help them out. The illustrations are simple, uncluttered and yet so expressive. They perfectly enrich the text. I highly recommend this book.
Mom Goes for a Walk: Picture book for the youngest readers (Meet my family 3 Colorful children's book starts out with the things their mom does when they go for a walk. My favorite page is the knitting one as I have finished a vest for my grandson and he loves it! Each page where it tells what the mother is doing, the page also shows it-makes it easy for kids to follow along if you are reading with them. I loved our walks with the grandkids as we got to be kids ourselves, going down slides, playing with bubbles, etc. Hope author does write one about the walk with dad, be an awesome father's day gift also. I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review
This is a cute, easy to read book told through the eyes of a child. She tells all about the things her Mom does and even tells you about what she does too. It has bright pictures which will keep the children's attention. The book is easy enough that beginning readers can read with some independence, while more experienced readers will be able to read with confidence. It is sure to be one that pleases all who reads it.
I liked the bright illustrations in this book, but I feel a little like there was more of a message there for the parents, than a story for kids. And I think the irony of teaching the mum might be lost on kids. But it gives a different perspective on a parent/child activity, and it would be a good book to spark conversations about the reader's own family activities. My kids are grown up now, but if they were still young, I would enjoy reading this to them.
My youngest daughter loves Tanja's books as her sense of humour is always pitch perfect for younger children. This book didn't disappoint her at all and she could easily relate to the story. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and lifts the book to a 5 star.
The illustrations are well done and it inverts the perspective of a care-giver. Any story where a child is in charge of her grown-up is always fun. This one is no exception.
