This was a fresh and exciting Young Adult novel. It was unlike others that are flooding the market right now. I loved Amelia's character and how strong she was after having to overcome so much. She was such a powerful female lead.

The writing was superb. Everything from the setting and imagery to the flow and the timing of the suspense was well done. It was a novel that kept me engaged the entire way through.

Last thing, this book cover is absolutely beautiful!

I was drawn into the story from the first page of this young adult fantasy novel. A book that is full of action and drama with characters that are truly unique. The ending is a surprise that ends with a cliffhanger. I cannot wait until the next book! Overall, a truly intriguing read!

What a clever story with a wonderful balance of mystery, romance, and creepiness. The plot flowed nicely and the mystery kept me guessing and flipping pages.

Shina James has created a novel in which the main character shows growth. For me that is always something I look for in my favorite main characters. I liked flawed characters and if they can overcome things, it really speaks to me.

This was a quick read for me. I felt like the words and plot just flowed long effortlessly. I found myself flipping page after page, laughing, and guessing the whole time.

Going into reading this, I was excited but curious on whether or not it could top Like a Dream. Boy did it top Like a Dream! I was sucked in right away and could not put it down until I was finished. Amelia's journey was even more exciting than in Like a Dream. I CANNOT wait for book 3, Waking Amelia!! Is it Fall 2017 yet?

Ugh. Emotions.

I've got to say, Monstrous Ties brought on more emotions then I thought there would be. SPOILER ALERT!! I was so mad and felt betrayed because she fell in love with Joleus and stayed with him instead of Aaron. Then I was sad because I thought she died and she wasn't going to be able to save Aaron from dying. I was also really happy that Leona finally got what she deserves and Roland got his revenge. All in all, this book left me emotionally unstable, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next one.

This was a young adult novel that really made me think on a deeper level than most.

I think that Shina James really managed to keep her readers engaged with these characters the entire way through.

There were many surprises and the way that the author was able to keep the pacing just right really helps everything flow naturally.

I liked the pacing of not only this book, but the series as a whole. The story unfolded at a nice pace and I didn’t feel like anything was forced or missing. Wonderful job by Shina James.
James uses vivid imagery to help the reader feel like they are a part of this world.

I definitely recommend this series.

***Spoiler Alert***

Monstrous Ties is the second book in the Like A Dream series. The entire book (minus a few short sections) is set within the mind of a teenage girl in a coma. She must fight her way through several lands to complete a goal. That goal is to awaken/rescue her fiancee. This book again ends on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait until the third book is released.
