I found this book very tiresome to read. The main character, Hershal, talked in first person - oh, how I despise that in any book! And he went on and on and on about his insecurities, his lack of faith in the Lord, once he was saved, and I just found the book monotonous, tedious, and joyless. Whew, thank goodness the book is finished!
This is an unusual plot. I kept expecting to read of the rapture and it just told of the misery before. Not at all what I expected from reading the synopsis.
I really enjoyed reading both books in this series, yet I can't help feeling I have been left hanging. I hope there is going to be another book to give closure to what happens to certain characters in the story.
I thought the story would pick up by the second book, but boy was I wrong. Survival this, food storage that, wife blowing her horn every five minutes... bor-ing!
