HE SEIZED LIFE BY THE THROAT

Dubbed the Black Wolf for his raven hair, his fierceness in battle and his way with women, Sir Alexander of Talisand attacked life as he did the king's enemies. But acclaim on the battlefield and his lusty escapades did not satisfy. King William Rufus would bind him to Normandy through marriage to one of its noblewomen, but the only woman Alexander wanted was a commoner he had saved from a terrible fate.

SHE KEPT MEN AT BAY WITH HER BOW

The shame of being the child of a Norman's rape dogged Merewyn's steps from her youth. Determined never to be a victim of a man's lust like her mother, in Wales she donned the garb of an archer and developed extraordinary skill with a bow. Despite her fair beauty, men now keep their distance. No longer in need of protection from other men, can Merewyn protect herself from Alexander when he holds her heart yet can never be hers?

The King’s Knight by Regan Walker is a 2016 publication.

Enticing, captivating, and exciting!!

This is the fourth book in Regan Walker’s Medieval Warrior’s series, but can be enjoyed as a stand alone.

The opening paragraphs of this novel grabbed my attention, as a dire situation puts Merewyn in a very serious and tense situation, but is heroically rescued by Sir Alexander of Talisand, otherwise known as ‘The Black Wolf.’

This event, as well as her personal heritage, prompts Merwyn to take a personal vow to never be a victim a man’s treachery again. She takes up archery as a way of protecting herself and over the years becomes quite proficient, even able to hold her own against her male counterparts.

But, despite her ability to protect her body and virtue, her heart is still vulnerable to Alexander, but her commonality and illegitimacy prevent any kind of a legitimate relationship between them.

Alex is very amorous with the ladies, but his parents have chosen a proper bride for him, but once he returns home, and sets eyes on the beautiful Merwyn, he realizes she is the only woman he wants to spend his life with.

I’m a big fan of Medieval fiction and romance, and as I’ve said many times before, Regan Walker’s attention to historical details and authentic history is astounding!

This story has plenty of court intrigue added to the angst ridden romantic entanglements between Alex and Merwyn.

Merwyn is more than worthy of Alexander, but doesn’t have much confidence in herself in this area of her life. She is really stuck on the class differences, no matter how much Alex loves her.

Alex is the type of hero that makes my heart skip a beat. He must cope with impending war, honoring his father’s wishes, and his feelings for Merwyn.

As with all of Ms. Walker’s historical novels, this one is well researched and true to the era of time. For me, this one seemed a little more focused on the romantic elements than in previous chapters, providing a different sort of suspense, which is welcome and gives the story more potential to reach a broader audience, without sacrificing the authenticity and tone of the times represented.

I have enjoyed this series immensely and look forward to future installments as the series progresses into future generations.

King's Knight by Regan Walker is a tanalizling and intriguing tale. Book 4 in a mesmerizing series, "Medieval Warriors", can be read as a stand alone. However, I would suggest reading this captivating and powerful series!

Regan Walker's, "King's Knight", brings forth a tale of Medeival chivalry, intrigue, passion, duty, honor and romance. Once again, Ms. Walker's knowledge of history, shines through. She writes with vivid descriptions, masterfull storytelling, action filled, and fast paced.

Readers will be captured from the first page. I absolutely loved this first in "Medieval Warriors", which is the "tales of The Red Wolf's Cub".
Sir Alexander of Talisand is the Red Wolf's son, he is called "Black Wolf" due to his raven hair, his fierceness in battle and his sensual conquest.
King William Rufus wishes to attach
his fierce's warrior, the Black Wolf, to Normandy.
Enter....Merewyn, is the illegitimate daughter, due to a Norman Warrior's rape. But Merewyn is who The Black Wolf, wishes to take to be his wife. She is feisty, spirited and a beauty.

I enjoyed reading how Merewyn and Sir Alexander, meet with their challenges, faced them, and how each claimed the other's heart. But will the challenges and dangers they face bring them their HEA?
Masterfully and brilliantly written Medieval Historical Romance. A tanalizling and intriguing Medieval Romance, to be sure. Ms. Walker has a way of capturing the readers heart, and holds them in awe. She never disappoints me! One of my favorite Medieval Romance authors. A must read! Highly recommended for fans of Medieval Romance, who enjoy, chivalry, honor, duty, sexy Knights and the lasses who love and tame their hearts. Grab your copy today, up for pre-order now!

Merewyn of York, was illegitimate born out of a brutal rape. It is from a Norman Knight, who brutally violated her innocent mother. Her sadly mother died in childbirth, she was a good woman from a fine family. As that is what Lady Emma tells her.

Sir Alexander of Talisand the Black Wolf due to his Raven hair. His parents are Sir Renald de Pierrepont, the Red Wolf and archer, Lady Serena of Talisand.

Talisand 1082

This book centers on ward Merewyn of York, an illegitimate a a child born out of brutal rape by a Norman warrior. Her innocent mother, Inga of York. was not nobility born, but came from a the greatest sword maker in York! Sadly Inga dies in childbirth. Then Merewyn is raised by her mother's best friend Emma.

As a child of 12, Merewyn was nearly in the same predicament as her mother had been all those years before. Then a hero was born in Merewyn’s eyes. Some called him the Red Wolf's Cub, others called Black wolf due to his dark Raven hair. From that day on Sir Alex was her champion even as the girl turned into a woman. Merewyn also didn't want to depend on a rescue attempt - if ever in a dire predicament again! Besides the fact Alex left to go Squire, so was Merewyn asked to be taught the bow and arrow by Lady Serena Tailsand, expert female archer. Lady Serena is also Alex’s mother. Rhondi and Fia completed Merewyn's training in Wales. She now wore archers garb now and is one of best archers around.

Alex a favorite Knight and respected warrior returns home with his two friends Rory and Guy. His attraction to Merewyn is immediate and all consuming!

Now a woman Merewyn
knew of Alex’s reputation as a ladies man. Plus she was a realist, knowing they would never be equal in status. Plus she knew like his father, the King wanted to conquer Norman lands. The best way to do that was through a marriage alliance.

Merewyn just didn't see her worth. She is the finest archer, plus one of the most beautiful woman in the land. As soon as Alex came home and saw Merewyn as a woman - he instantly wanted her. He knew she wasn't a woman for a fast tumble. As they got reacquainted again, he saw her intelligence, strength concentration in chess and supreme talent as an archer. He knew she was the only woman for him.

The problem is the King has already picked a bride for him. One who was known to get rid undesirable husbands under suspicious circumstances. This woman also see’s Merewyn as a threat. Will she be in danger? Besides the fact all the Kings lecherous men seem to want the beautiful young archer, including a Wales Prince!

Will Alex and Merewyn have their HEA? Or is it doomed before it even begins - with an unwanted arranged noble alliance through marriage?

Plus with war around the corner there's always a chance Alex might not even survive. Plus Merewyn has to make s decision and is totally clueless when it comes to Alex.

Another Regan Walker fast paced page turning novel. It is full of surprises and upheaval, not knowing what to expect next. Again, weaving true history and a captivating star crossed romance. Picturesque settings, quick paced plots and breathtaking dialogue.

I Highly recommend readers check out King’s Knight and get totally swept away! You can read as a stand alone or in series order. Just more fun to read this entire mesmerizing and captivating (Medieval Warriors) series which I have absolutely loved!

King's Knight
By Regan Walker

Talisand 1091

Sir Alexander of Talisand is the Red Wolf's son he is everything his father was and more. He piled up conquests with women like he did bodies of the Kings enemies.
Heir to the Red Wolf of Talisand he's been away fighting King Williams wars, but there's always been one woman for him, he didn't realize it yet but his heart knew, ever since he saved her from the village ruffians.
Merewyn a young woman dodging her past, the product of rape feels unworthy of love especially the love of her heart's hero! He had saved her from certain harm in a long ago childhood .

Alex can't believe the beautiful young woman is Merewyn, she's a skilled archer a skill she acquired in Wales from Rhodri a freind to his mother Lady Serena and Merewyn's mentor, she had travelled to Wales to further her talent.
Alex can't control his attraction to her or the feelings of possessiveness.
As their relationship blossoms, there is turmoil between King William and the King of Scotland and with talk of war Alex is summoned by the King. Merewyn knows it won't be long before the King chooses a bride of noble birth, for his favourite knight.

She declares her love and they share a few nights of passion. Alex knows she's the one for him his hearts desire, but now the King has chosen a bride for him, how can he avoid his Kings ire and not marry the Kings choice?
Can he deny the Kings request and choose honour instead of the Kings edict ?
Will Merewyn's secret be devastating for Alex and his position as the Kings favorite once revealed?
This is epic storytelling by Regan Walker! Masterfully written you are pulled in a time of long ago where men were heroes and women were strong where love conquered every foe!
I received this book from the author at no cost to me and volunteered to read it, my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher.

Another wonderful well written medieval romance by Regan Walker. This book can be read on its own, but if you have read the previous ones in this series you will revisit old friends. One favorite, Maugris, the seer, has appeared in the earlier books and his prophecies should be heeded.

This is Alex and Merewyn's story. Alex, known as the Black Wolf due to his hair color and his father's nickname, the Red Wolf. He is a knight for King William Rufus and has been fighting in Normandy. Upon their return to England, Alex returns home to visit his family. Merewyn lives at Talisand as the ward of his parents. He had rescued her as a child from the village boys taunting her. At that point, she fell in love with him and learned to defend herself. She is an expert with her bow. He is drawn to her but can't stay long as they must all go to London. Then he has to ride with the King's army to Scotland. Merewyn loves Alex but due to her birth she does not believe she can be his wife. He must marry the woman the King chooses. Alex, however, is determined to wed Merewyn.

There is so much going on in this book. You won't want to put it down. I try to give you a hint of the story without spoiling it. Regan Walker is very accurate in the history of the time and weaves a wonderful story, not only with the main characters but the secondary ones as well. I can think of several from this book who may need their own HEAs. I highly recommend "King's Knight".

This is my fourth Medieval historical romance by Ms. Regan, and it’s just as exciting as the other three. This one, like the others, is rich in detail that can only be written about with a great deal of research. The author’s descriptive style is so vivid and era appropriate that I felt as if I were living in that period of history right along with the heroine, Merewyn, the bastard daughter of a Norman knight who fought with William the Conqueror. Merewyn is also the ward of the Red Wolf, the father of our current hero, Alex, who is a knight for King William Rufus, the Conqueror’s son. Alex and Merewyn were playmates as they grew up but meet again as adults when Alex returns from war in Normandy. Their romance gets complicated due to the King’s political agenda and Merewyn’s illegitimacy but their steadfast love and sense of honor overcome obstacles in this wonderful historical tale. A “must read”!

Talisand, the North West of England. 1082. Regan Walker’s King’s Knight (Medieval Warriors #4 - the last novel of this series) begins with a prologue that presents the two main characters to the reader when they were younger, but what takes place at this time sets the stage for this medieval story. Merewyn, the result of Norman rape of a good Saxon woman (Pease keep the date in mind.) is taunted and jeered by youths very close to her in age. She finds herself in the forest being bullied by boys who finally catch up to her. She is terrified. Will the same that happen to her mother happen to her? Enter: Alexander, the Red Wolf’s son. He is taller than the other boys, and his father, the Red Wolf, has an excellent reputation which appears to have spread over Alexander. In addition, Alexander can fight. He takes on all of the boys. The first receiving a hard fist in his face. The rest begin to disappear into the forest. Merewyn decides that she never wants to be in that position again, and she becomes extremely skilled in a medieval art which keeps boys then men away from her. The author gives the reader a realistic view of life involving the Normans, the Saxons, and even the Scots when Henry Rufus, the Conqueror’s son and heir, is King of England. She also keeps an eye on Merewyn, now Sir Alexander, and their relationship. Very enjoyable! 4.25 stars.

Well, if you read Red Wolf’s Prize, you’ve read this book. It is pretty much the same story. I was looking for more angst reading the blurb that the H is promised to another, but there wasn’t one and everything was too conveniently wrapped up. The same plot points were used. Alex is just like his father Renaud. Merewyn is just like Serena, in looks and archery skills, except her nobility status. Again, some random dude loves the h and kidnaps her. Again the H/h are written separated for extended parts of the book—like separated for 40% of the book. It just lacked creativity and effort.

It was nice however to read about old characters and their futures lives now.

If you want to read a good – no, make it a VERY good – historical novel with action and romance, then don’t miss Regan Walker’s latest release in her Medieval Warriors Series.

King’s Knight is the fourth installment of this great series and it can be read as a standalone as there’s enough background information included so that any new reader won’t be lost. Besides, the historical elements interwoven in the story make you want to know more about the years that followed the Norman Conquest of England – at least, it did for me.

Filled with fascinating historical details and unforgettable characters, King’s Knight represents a great follow up to Ms Walker’s previous novels in this series. As with all of her other books, this one is beautifully written and so engaging you won’t want it to end. Kudo for another book that will no doubt be a huge success.

A young girl with dubious beginnings in need of a hero and a young boy striving to become his own man.

Merewyn can outshoot any of the clan’s archers; something she learned while in her youth as a self-defense against all men, having learned from her mother’s unfortunate past. What Merewyn hasn’t overcome is the stigma of being the product of that past. Returning to Talisand where she hopes to make her home once again Merewyn comes face to face with the boy, now fully grown, she once looked upon as her hero. Spending time with this man is quickly playing havoc with her heart but she knows that she will never be good enough for one of the King’s Knights and the son of the Red Wolf.

Sir Alexander of Talisand has learned his duties well serving the King as one of his knights. Returning to Talisand after a long battle Alexander is brought face to face with a girl from his past. He quickly becomes fascinated by this woman’s demeanor and skill with a bow. A fascination that turns into so much more, her background be damned. Called back into battle Alexander must work to convince the King that someone else can link his kingdom with Normandy lands. That may be easier than convincing his fair maiden that she belongs with him no matter the past.

From the prologue to the end Regan Walker does an outstanding job of drawing me into Alexander and Merewyn’s story. The extensive research Ms. Walker does shows in the detailed descriptions of the time which made me feel if I was there (starting with heart racing in the very beginning).

As the fourth book in her Medieval Warriors series, King’s Knight can be read as a stand-alone. However; take if from this reader book 1 – The Red Wolf’s Prize; book 2 – Rogue Knight; and book 3 - Rebel Warrior are every bit as good and not to be missed.

King’s Knight is a wonderful addition in Regan Walker’s Medieval Warrior series. Once again, the world that Ms. Walker continues to build in this series is superb, as is her storytelling .

Merewyn is a character that you will immediately feel a kinship with. She took the shame she felt as a child and turned it into something beautiful: pride and determination. Fiercely protective and loyal to those she loves, Merewyn will, more than once, prove that her determination knows no bounds. Alex is just as loyal and fierce and protective, which he proved as a child when he and Merewyn were children. However, it is defiance in later years that will endear him to all who read this story. It is truly a fairytale come true for them both. The historical aspects of this story, more than any other in this series, leapt from the page. Let me just say, THAT is saying something. I’ve said before that one of the earmarks of a great author, at least for me, is being able to actually see the scene in your mind. Regan Walker is unparalleled in accomplishing that fact.

It was so great to see this series move forward several years and see the original characters from previous books happy and healthy and their children taking lead roles in securing their own futures. Regan Walker has once again written a sweeping tale that pulls you in at the very beginning and doesn’t let you go. Along with a wonderfully developed romance, there is political intrigue, along with a cast of supporting characters begging for their story to be told. This is true medieval romance at its finest. Well done, Regan Walker! Very, very well done!

My goodness, me this is good! In fact the word ‘good’ is too mild of a term to describe just how unbelievably great this book is. No wonder that this was the winner of the 2017 RONE award, it is fantastic and exactly how a Medieval Romance should be written! I always know that whenever I pick up a Regan Walker book, I am going to instantly fall in love with it, but there is something rather special about King’s Knight, it is an intriguing, seductive, edge of your seat and exhilarating romance set in a time where chivalry and honour reigned. This is what I love about the medieval era to start with that it was a dark, perilous and dangerous as well as being a time where the world was full of chivalric, loyal, honour bound with absolute love – once found.

This is the last book in the brilliant Medieval Warriors series, and it feels like we have come full circle, the series started with Serena and Raynard; (otherwise known as the Red Wolf) Lord and Lady of Talisand and now we are back where we started but this time with their son; Alexander – who I have to say, I am in absolute love with!

As children Alexander; the little lord-ling of the mighty Red Wolf saves scared, vulnerable illegitimate Merewyn when she was about to be attacked by the boys from the village who just because she is the result of her poor mother being raped, Merewyn is now seen only as a but of a plaything, that is until the devil himself turns up by her side. Merewyn then went on to train as an archer in Wales and Alex went to train to be the Lord, Knight and warrior he was meant to be.

Years later, it is now 1091 and the fearsome Red Wolf’s cub is now a full-grown man, a brilliant Knight in his own regard, he is now back at home after spending years away fighting for King and country and training to be the deadly Knight he is now. He has a sinful reputation as a most sought after lover and ladies man, something which he Alex has thoroughly enjoyed that is until he comes face to face with the one woman who has been in the back of his mind since he rescued her years before. Merewyn is a tantalising, mysterious and utterly breathtaking woman, she is so different to his usual conquests a brilliant archer in her own right and a woman a lot like his own mother who would much rather wear men’s clothes and go out in the hunt then stay at home in pretty gowns sewing. To say Alex is instantly attracted to her is an understatement.

The chemistry sizzles between them, the air practically crackles with pent-up sexual tension and mutual lust, you just know that these two are just meant to be together. They are like two sides of the same coin, both different but together are one. Unfortunately all is not on our love birds side, as Alex is devastated to learn that the King has picked his bride for him, a woman who will bring together the two mighty houses, but this woman has got a deadly reputation not just because she has a habit of ridding herself of unwanted husbands – which did make me think of a black widow spider, but Alex’s intended also sees Merewyn as a threat. Add a war expected at any moment which very would mean Alex’s death, will our destined couple be torn apart in the most cruelest of ways, or will the Black Wolf and the Archer have their happy ever after?

My goodness, if there ever was a moment for a #DoubleSwoon, then now is the time. I didn’t think that my all time favourite Regan Walker character; Jean Donet could be pushed down to number two, but Alexander has done it. He is a passionate, fearsome, intelligent, strong, sexy, loyal and protective man who loves his family above all else. The way he looks up to his might father; Raynard, The Red Wolf is wonderful, to Alex his sire is the one man in the whole world who he admires and aspires to be. I love the scene when Alex and his father have a sword fight in the Talisand games, it’s wonderfully to see the Red Wolf and his ‘cub’ go head on head and how playful Raynard is with Alex, wonderful scene. It is that particular personality trait; the family orientated one that I loved about him. The way he treats his fellow knights no matter what their rank with respect and friendship is another trait that I love about him and the fact that yes he has a reputation for being a ladies man but the moment that he is reunited with beautiful Merewyn, he is a one woman man. She is everything to him, she brings light into his life.

She really is an amazing young lady, after her early ordeal when she was rescued by Alex she swore that no man would ever touch her, she would protect herself. Which is where the always brilliant Serena; lady of Talisand comes in, Serena was and still is the queen of the bow and arrow – I have always loved Serena she is a strong, resilient woman who is so caring and she shares those traits with the younger woman. Merewyn fights for her place and she has worked hard to over come her unfortunate start in life, she is bold, resilient, loyal, brave and deadly as well as being vulnerable, cynical and passionate. When she chooses to give her love and heart to someone they are extremely fortunate. She has always held a light for Alex but being lowly born and illegitimate she knows that the heir of Talisand is too far above her, but that doesn’t stop her heart beating out a rapid beat when ever she sees him. Or when they secretly kiss – oh, my those kisses are incredible; sweet, tender, sexy, passionate, loving.

I love how Ms Walker has answered all the questions that I had throughout this series, such as what would happen with the young orphan Jamie, is my favourite Welsh archer and the other Knights such as Sir Alain happy? All of their stories are revealed and the series – even though it is sad that there will be no more ‘Medieval Warriors’ – has finished in a good place leaving the reader very happy and satisfied.

This is a tantalising, action-packed, atmospheric, engaging, passionate, powerful, compelling – I am running out of complimentary descriptive words – brilliantly written, an emotional page-tuner that I can guarantee will have you hooked from that very first page. The story sweeps the reader along at a marvellous pace, you are taken on an spell-binding journey which is full of thrills, twists and turns and a gorgeous romance all entwined with meticulously researched and rich history. Ms Walker as ever has put her heart and soul and many, many hours of love into this, it’s so rich in detail that it’s as though you have been transported from your armchair to Medieval Yorkshire.

This book is really too good to be true, fantastic characters, mesmerizing plot a superb ending to what is an amazing series.

Simply stunning!

Alex of Talisand known as the Black Wolf and the King's favoured knight and good friend returns home with his two best friends, Sir Rory and Sir Guy he can't believe the woman dressed in archer garb is Merewyn, the lass who used to follow him around when they were younger

Merewyn who went to live with Lady Emma when she was young after her mother died from childbirth and lived at Talisand, after Alex protected her from unwanted attention and he went off to squire, she was left feeling vulnerable and so, she asked Lady Serena to train her in archery, soon she became accomplished and Lady Serena felt she could'nt teach her anymore than what she already knew and so she asked Rhodri and Fia to complete her archery training in Wales.

Now she's back at Talisand and so is Alex, and they both discover things have changed, follow them on the paths set out for them, some are bumpy.

Regan Walker writes the most engrossing tale set in Medieval times that you can imagine being in them.
This is one you won't be able to put down and will read again and again.

Formulaic medieval romance set in the reign of William II of England. Young lord of the manor and girl from wrong side of the blanket secretly harbour feelings for each other; usual sexual tension and flirting; she leaves, he pursues; standard conclusion.

Neither of the main characters - in this instance, Merewyn (young girl archer) and Alexander (the Black Wolf of Talisand) - stirred any feelings of empathy - the standard cookie-cutter characters; the story was rather bland and as I said, formulaic. I persevered for six chapters then skipped through to the end.

Guess I am becoming a bit more selective - this was just not for me.

A very good story set in England in the last decade of the 11th century and I really had to keep going until I finished it this morning. The romance threads throughout and is beautifully written - not really 'steamy', just lovely and tasteful and slow burn. This is the 4th book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. If you've read the previous three books, then it is sort of a big epilogue for the three previous couples and their families, as it's set 20 years or so after and we find out what happened to them as they are all secondary characters or referred to. Historical details are excellent. 4.5 stars.

The giddy excitement that I get from reading a Regan Walker novel carries over until the last page. I absolutely love her stories and her ability to cast a spell over the reader, especially me. King’s Knight by Regan Walker follows the story of the Red Wolf’s cub, Alex. A knight in his own right, he must fight for duty and honor. He might also find himself defying his King. Lately, I’ve been having fun discovering quirky characters in stories. If you like those too, you will find it in King’s Knight, actually he plays a role in the Medieval Warriors series. Maugris, a seer, with visions and prophecies, will prove vital to both Alex and Merewyn. I can’t help but like him especially since he’s described like this: “The old one’s face could be both ancient and ageless, as if he had been born with silver hair and skin wrinkled from the sun. But as ancient as he looked, Maugris’ pale blue eyes sparkled with the excitement of youth.”

Listen to Maugris

“The wolf’s cub will wander, ever restless, until the wolf rampant flies above the red heart.”

That little prophecy was directed to Alex (Who, incidentally is called the Black Wolf ;) ). Of course Maugris never goes into much detail as it is up to the person to figure it out. I love these little tidbits throughout the story, it makes for enjoyable reading.

Our little cub, is duty bound to his King and on his return home, he finds that the little girl he used to protect grew up to be a beautiful woman who can take care of herself. Their love story is a sweet one. Her protector becomes her lover and it induced quite a few sighs from me.

She speaks to her bow.

Merewyn is cute. Her hardships as a child taught her to become strong and protect herself. She learns how to use a bow and carries it around with her. She even speaks to it. Well, she doesn’t have conversations with it, but she speaks to it as if it were a pet. I felt that the bow was a crutch. So of course, Maugris steps in and imparts some wisdom to help her break free.

“Remember, the archer controls the bow and not the bow the archer.”

We don’t see the traditional baddies in this story, just one instance of rivalry between Merewyn and another woman vying for Alex’s attention.

The sweet almost bittersweet love between Merewyn and Alex is what keeps the story going. Alex’s strong and open minded family brings them closer together and helps forge the happily ever after that will reward the reader in the end.

Just a little note...

I personally started this series out of order (I began with book #2). It's not necessary, but I do feel that reading the first book in the series, The Red Wolf's Prize, will make it more cohesive and the further out of sync you get the harder it will be to understand the complex characters and storyline. There are no cliffhangers.

Regan Walker's novels never fail to capture my imagination, to transport me to another time and place, and her Medieval Warriors series is definitely up there with the best of her work!

Alex is a young man fulfilling his destiny as the famous Red Wolf's 'cub'. He has a fearsome repuation to live up to, and is more than capable of the job. With his flowing black locks and striking grey eyes he is every inch the perfect warrior. Yet the moment he sets eyes on Merewyn we begin to see his softer, protective side, and I fell for him the moment he rode through the gates of Talisand.

Merewyn was a lovely character. Determined to shake off the 'damsel in distress' label and to defend herself from unwanted advances she takes up archery, and amazes everyone with her skill. She is fearless, unconventional, and yet vulnerable in that she can't seem to get past the circumstances of her birth. Her constant worrying that she wasn't worthy of Alex, and that he must marry a bride chosen by the King, really frustrated me - I just wanted her to see how great she is!

Whilst each novel in the series can be read as a standalone, it's lovely to see some familiar faces appearing now and again. Main protagonists aside, Regan has created a medieval world full of wonderful characters, all of whom are worthy of having their stories told, and some of which I'm sure we'll be reading more about in the future.

Wonderfully researched historical fiction, filled with romance, danger and intrigue. What more could you ask for?

*Thanks to Regan Walker for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for a review!*

The Black Wolf is a skilled knight well favored by the King however he finds loves pathway rocky when Merewyn catches his heart. Love this authors description and characters as she transports the reader to a time of long ago. Advice is to find a comfortable chair and settle in for a long spell of reading as you enjoy this Tale.

Ebook from Netgalley and publisher with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

I particularly enjoyed this book because it is set in one of my favourite time periods, in England in the years following the Norman conquest. The author has clearly done her research and portrays the period accurately, with no historical inaccuracies to jar the reader out of the story.

Merewyn, the heroine, is the illegitimate daughter of a Saxon woman raped by a Norman knight. As such she is seen as fair game to many men despite her birth being no fault of her own. She is lucky enough to be under the protection of powerful Norman noble, the Red Wolf, and his wife the Lady Serena who has taught her some archery skills to defend herself from unwanted advances.

The Red Wolf's son is Alex, now known as the Black Wolf, a knight who has gained some renown campaigning with the English king William Rufus in Normandy. In this time period, knights were often ordered to marry as the king required, to bind alliances, and landholders in England were often required to ally their families with those in Normandy. Merewyn knows that there is no possibility that she could be allowed to marry Alex, but she allows herself to fall in love with him anyway… and you'll have to read the rest of the book to find out how they get to their happy ending.

The author's style reminds me a little of Sharon Penman, whose wonderful books about the last Princes of Wales were really the first thing to actually get me interested in history, considering the history I was taught in school was incredibly dry. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will be looking for more of Regan Walker's work.

Five stars.

I really liked Alex but Merewyn almost felt like she was going for martyrdom w/the
whole,"O No! You Can't go against the King!" "I'm a girl of lower birth" ,constantly
like some tune that refused to leave my head.... I know maybe those are maybe the proper
responses for a good lil h to have in a time period like this but I want a h who a) isn't a
pushover or a doormat or someone who is led by her hormones or her ever increasing damp
panties but also want my h to fight for what she wants and to encourage her H to do the same...
Thankfully Alex didn't need to be encouraged and was gonna fight for her regardless but the
whole officially getting together was just d r a g g e d o u t way too long :(
I can understand her wanting to respect of the ppl she loved, namely his family but FIGHT
for what you want girl!!! All Girl power strong in Archery one minute, wanting slink away w/her tail between her legs the next..... Then there's the H and h spending more time away each other than
w/each in the book, most of the book Mere was running from Alex, trying to decide if she wanted Alex or not,or they were away from each other or just being rather stubborn and stupid.. I LOVED
the concept/idea for the story, how they met and started to love just children but it lost me w/how
Mere wasn't really prepared to fight for what she wanted, leaving her H to fight for them both..
Just wasn't for me.... Too little romance, too much worrying and inner angst and just plain TSTL moments.... I soo could have lived w/out the King and his Courtiers :(

"The King's Knight" is a powerful love story involving Sir Alexander of Talisand, the fierce, formidable son of the Red Wolf, Lord of Talisand ("The Red Wolf's Prize") and Merewyn, the beautiful, illegitimate daughter of a rape victim. Merewyn's mother was a dear friend of Alex's mother, Lady Serena, and lived, as a child, in the same castle. Bullied because of her background, Alex becomes her champion and protector until he is sent off to foster. Merewyn is determined to be able to protect herself and is taught by one of the best, Alex's mother, Lady Serena. Merewyn continues to master the bow while living in Wales with Lady Serena's Welsh family. It is when both she and Alex (now dubbed the "Black Wolf") return to their home and meet for the first time as adults, that our story begins.

As with all Regan Walker's work, this book is skillfully written. The romance is beautifully developed, filled with angst, court intrigue and sweet, tender moments. The cast of wonderful secondary characters add to the story line. And, it is always wonderful to visit with old friends (Lady Serena and Lord Renaud from "The Red Wolf's Prize" and Lady Emma and Sir Geoffroi from "Rogue Knight.") You never can go wrong with a book written by Regan Walker. Always an enjoyable adventure!

King’s Knight
By Regan Walker
Forth book in the series “Medieval Warriors”
Once again Regan Walker enchants us with a wonderful love story.
Sir Alexander of Talisand, known as the Black Wolfe is the son of The Red Wolfe and Lady Serina of Talisand. He is a favored Knight of King William Rufus. The King wishes to wed him with a Norman bride to tie him to his lands in Normandy. Black Wolfe falls in love with Merewyn and will have no other.
Merewyn of York is the daughter of Lady Emma of York’s friend, Inga and a Norman Knight who raped her. She becomes the ward of The Red Wolfe and Lady Serina. Merewyn has loved Black Wolfe since childhood. She longs for a love she feels she is not worthy of.
I love how in the end everything falls so perfectly into place. Sir Alexander will have his Lady Merewyn.
I have enjoyed this entire series. Regan does a wonderful job with her research and as always gives us a great history lesson.

I feel like romance novels need their own version of bechdel test but for the h and H. It fails if the h and H don't have one conversation about something other than their burning attraction for each other. This book would fail.

We are told that the H and h have known each other from childhood and have been separated for years. However, the old adage of 'show' don't tell holds. You never feel like these characters are real or even have any real connection to each other because it's never shown.

Do not recommend.

Have you ever read a book and didn't want it to end? Yeah, this is how I felt. I so enjoyed this story. It has all the right elements to keep you intrigued of what will happen next, plus a history lesson. I have read all of the authors books in this series. Try one you will not be able to put it down, and then you'll want to read the next one.

“Love wants a chivalrous lover skilled at arms and generous in serving who speaks well and gives greatly, who knows what he should do and say, in and out of his hall, as befits his power . .” This quote from the 12th Century poem, Be’m plai lo gais temps de pascor, by Bertran de Born introduces such a knight – a King’s Knight, the fourth in a powerful historical love series by Regan Walker.

Set in Talisand, in Northwest England in 1082, Sir Alexander, the son of the Red Wolf and Lady Serena of Talisand, returns home after winning the favor of King William Rufus for his distinguished fighting skills. The young knight, dubbed the Black Wolf, for his long black mane of hair, is still referred to as a ‘cub’ and feels the long shadow of his father’s great legacy. Yet, Sir Alexander has an easy charm with the women and an inheritance of youthful arrogance which leads him to believe he can possibly have any woman he wants.

Merewyn is not a high-born lady. The illegitimate daughter of the ruthless Norman invasion, she knows well that any lingering looks at the heir of Talisand cannot be anything more than wistful glances. Yet, Alexander stepped in and saved her from the humiliation and malicious intents of village boys when she was but an innocent girl. In that moment, he became the hero of her heart. Steeling herself against an unforgiving caste system as she approaches womanhood, she chooses her short bow as her closest companion – to assist in hunting; to prove a woman’s skill; and to protect herself, evermore. She would never be a victim.

When Sir Alexander returns home, his eyes sweep the bailey. After years of being fostered and fighting battles, he seeks to inquire about one young woman who seems missing – Merewyn. So, this love story begins. For fans of Regan Walker, this fourth book in the series is filled with the intense history, portends of the future and the familiar characters we love so much, including Sir Renault (the Red Wolf), Lady Talisand, Sir Jamie (no longer a squire, but Captain of the house knights at Talisand), Maggie (the beloved cook who keeps us fed with her warmth as well as exquisite food), Maugris (the wise seer) and Steinar (Lady Serena’s brother and hero of Rebel Warrior). For new readers, step into the pages and fall in love with characters who commit to honor and who learn that love connects us all, no matter what our fates may seem to be.

Cast against the landscape of medieval Britain, Scotland and Wales, this tale continues a tradition of courage, chivalry, court intrigue, honor and intense passion. For another endearing novel in the Warrior Series, I heartily give King’s Knight a five-star rating. Regan Walker does not disappoint in delivering a well-paced romance that beats the odds of its time.

King's Knight is book four in the Medieval Warrior series and it is great. I have loved the entire series but this is one of my favorites. Each book in the series is full of action and romance that captures your attention from the beginning and holds you captive right up until the satisfying end. The books are hard to put down.

In King's Knight we meet Merewyn who is the daughter of a girl that we met in a previous book. She is an archer and quite talented at it. At a young age, she was being bullied and Sir Alexander came to her rescue. She gave him her heart that day, only he did not know it.

As they grew up, Alexander became a knight and is now worthy of being the son on the infamous Red Wolf. Alexander has made a name for himself on the battlefield as the Black Wolf. It is expected that he would marry a lady the king selects and be gifted land with that marriage. But Alexander has feelings for Merewyn. When the two begin to spend time together, they can not deny their feelings. They begin a physical relationship and express their love for one another. Alexander is called to the battlefield. In his absence, a prince from Wales come to claim Merewyn for himself. She struggles with whether or not to return to Wales so that Alex can marry the lady the king has selected for him. Things become muddled when Merewyn decides to stay and wait for Alex to return. The prince will not take no for an answer and takes Merewyn against her will back to Wales. When Alex returns to marry Merewyn, he finds she is gone. But in Alex's eyes he is already wed to Merewyn and intends to let her know that.

I loved the romance in this book. Alex is such a tough man in battle but show Merewyn a much gentler side. All of the books in this series feature a tough man who yields to the power of love. Great series that I would highly recommend.

If you haven't read anything by Ms. Walker, you're missing out. Her writing is stunning and engaging. Her characters are well-rounded without being too complex.

This is another incredible example of her writing.

Merewyn is a woman meant to stand on her own. A child conceived because of rape she refuses to allow herself to be the victim. Ever. Archery becomes her source of defense and she is skilled at handling her bow and arrow, so much so men give her a wide berth. But physical weapons are useless when warfare is of the emotional and mental kind.

Alex was born to the Red Wolf and is known as the Black Wolf because of his dark hair. He fights with ferocity. He beds women passionately. He is destined for greatness, a fact not missed by his king. But betrothal to a woman of the king's choosing isn't what Alex longs for. His heart belongs to a woman he rescued when they were younger, a woman born from shame, a woman who holds his heart but doesn't know it.

I love that this story is rich with history without short changing the characters and their story. But Ms. Walker knows how to balance the two. As fierce and loyal Alex is to his king and country, he knew happiness was never in his sword or horse or gifts bestowed on him by his king. Happiness was in following his heart even if that meant defying a royal order.

People say love knows no boundaries. This story is a perfect example of that saying. Hate and royal decrees can't match love's overwhelming power. Where two hearts are attuned to one another and entwined together, there love is born. Alex and Merewyn achieve what so many couples probably couldn't at that time: everlasting love.

Wonderful

What a lovely ending to this series! I loved seeing most of the old characters and reading about Serena's son Alex, all grown and finding his own chance at happiness. I'm glad Inga's daughter came into her own and found her HEA! So nice to see the loose ends all tied up! But still, I hope to read of these characters again! Perhaps Rory's story? Or Jaimie's? Wonderful book! I loved it!

DNF 20% … just didn’t care. I’ve read all four books in the series and they have progressively gotten more boring and bigger wastes of time. I’m done with this author. Her stories start off good and get your attention but then they go down hill quickly. The chemistry is weak, the story is bland and predictable, and I have no desire to finish.
