Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.

She is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.

5 - "...You came home for Christmas." Stars!

Victoria James starts a new Shadow Creek, Montana series, with an emotive and heartfelt, Christmas read, and be warned, Christmas with the Sheriff is a book that you are going to need a healthy stock of tissues to cry into whilst reading.

Grief, unexpected loss and dealing with the aftermath of those things, are not something I would traditionally want to read in a Christmas romance. But I think when you take into the other aspects of Christmas that include, family, love, remembrance, and letting go of the past, when done well it can be a special sort of mix. Victoria James certainly hit the right note with Julia and Chase’s story, and for all of those aspects.

"You’ll be happy again… I promise."

I needed tissues right from the prologue with this story, and although after that point the book picks up five years on, you can very much tell straight away, that Julia is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of her husband and child, especially with the revelations that come to light afterwards. But she has forged on and made a life for herself, a very successful one in the city. Returning to Shadow Creek for Christmas brings back to the fore all of those long buried memories, but it also opens up the doors to new possibilities as well.

"I’m not a guy who wastes time wishing for things, but if I were, I wish you’d stay."

Chase; now a single father, and although being Julia’s deceased husband’s best friend, with her return to town he can’t deny that the feelings he buried for her all those years ago, are very much still there. But Julia isn’t planning on staying past the Christmas period, and he has his daughter Maggie’s feelings to take into account as well, getting attached to her may not be the best thing for either of them, but it’s hard to deny his feelings when he sees just how well she fits with him, and with Maggie.

"Now that you’re here, he doesn’t seem alone anymore…"

That extra dimension you get when adding a child into the mix is explored with great result’s in this book, and once again the author managed to pull more tears from me when Maggie’s vulnerable side came into play, I think it was all the more poignant, as she is such a sparky kid through most of the book.

There is a lot going on in this story, you can tell that the author is setting the scene for the series, with the introduction of a few characters, as well as giving a little back ground on a lot of them through the stories progression. But its done really well, the tidbits you are given are pertinent to the plots progression, and it leaves you intrigued to find out more about these characters as more books are released from the series.

Probably one of the best books I have read by this author so far, and I am looking forward to reading more from the series in 2017.

Five years ago Julia Bailey suffered the loss of her husband and young son in a car accident. Needing space and time she left Shadow Creek behind. Now she is back to spend the holidays with her family and friends. When she comes face to face with Sheriff Chase Donovan, her husband's best friend, and the man who helped her all those years ago, sparks fly.

Sheriff Chase Donovan has always loved Julia, but she married his best friend. Now she is back in Big Sky Country and Chase vows he will get Julia to take a chance on him and his daughter. With Christmas fast approaching, and Julia planning to leave again. Can Chase convince Julia to give love a second chance??

description

This was a bittersweet holiday read for me. My heart broke for Julia and everything she had lost. That said, it was also a very uplifting read. Overcoming pain and tragedy, to find a love worth taking a chance on.

I ADORED Chase, he was just such a sweet guy. The scenes with his daughter will melt your heart. Julia frustrated me at times. Because Chase was just so sweet and sexy, I wanted her to just stop dilly-dallying and take that leap of faith. Of course her fears stopping her from doing that were legit, so I tried to cut her some slack.

Overall this was a fantastic Holiday read. With great characters (both main and secondary) and it gets two big thumbs up from yours truly.

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Victoria James' writing and my Christmas wouldn't be complete without a festive themed read from her. Christmas with the Sheriff is, for me, Victoria at her very best; I'd go as far as saying this is the finest book she's written to date and believe me, she's written some keepers.

To be able to take such a heart wrenching subject which hits you where it hurts, and create an enchanting, heartwarming romance filled with hope and promise, is a gift. It was pitched perfectly and, for every moment that has you reaching for the tissues, there are many more that will make you smile.

description

For someone who has experienced such tragedy, Julia is one hell of a woman and her strength was quite humbling. And when she returns to Shadow Creek to spend Christmas with her late husband's family, who themselves are wonderful, one man is particular pleased to see her; her husband's best friend, Chase. I love a man who wears his heart on his sleeve, and Chase dons his with the best of them.

description

I have to say though, as much as I loved Julia and Chase, it was Chase's daughter Maggie who stole so many moments throughout with her smart, insightful, sweet, honest nature. She was so adorable I wanted to scoop her up and snuggle her and her relationship with both Chase and Julia brought much of the emotion.

Christmas with the Sheriff is the perfect opener to the Shadow Creek, Montana series and with Julia's brother-in-law Jack back in the fold, I can't wait to see what his story will bring. I have a feeling it may well be emotional.

There is nothing like a small-town Christmas romance from Victoria James. Her books make me smile the entire time I am reading them and Christmas with the Sheriff was no exception.

We got a glimpse into Julia Bailey when she was at her lowest- after losing her husband and child in a tragic accident. As the story takes off, five years have passed and Julia was finally facing her ghosts and going back to her hometown and the family and friends she left so she could grieve and heal.

It became clear as the story went on that Julia had evaded the pain and loss more than actually healed from it. Being back in Shadow Creek was tearing away at the walls she had built. I adored how her late husband’s family supported her and gave her space to mourn as they welcomed her back when with open arms.

While back in Shadow Creek, Julia also had to confront her once dormant but now growing feelings for Chase Donovan, the best friend of her late husband. Chase was so sweet and swoon worthy. I especially loved his sarcastic spitfire of a daughter, Maggie. Maggie stole almost every scene she was in.

“Math, which is so boring.”
“Oh I used to think so too. How much do you have left?”
“Five more questions! And then it’ll be bedtime! It’s like our teacher is the Grinch’s wife.” Maggie banged her head on her textbook dramatically once again.”

Chase, who had secretly been in love with Julia since they were in school, was determined to to get Julia to open her heart to him and stay in Shadow Creek, where she belonged. His backstory was heartbreaking and I wanted all good things for him. A better match for Julia couldn’t have been found, but he had a very uphill battle.

“The snowball that landed in his face, however, was a cold reminder he had no business wishing for things that would probably never happen.”

Loved this story! I am really hoping this turns into a series. I loved the cast of characters and hope to read more about them in future stories.

What a beautiful and heartfelt read Christmas with the Sheriff turned out to be, loved it!

From the first few pages I knew this book was going to take me on an emotional journey. I found myself crying and my heart breaking for this character I only just met.
I instantly connected with Julia, I felt everything she was going through. I wanted to reach into my kindle to hug her tight and comfort her.
But I wasn't needed, Chase was there to offer her the support she needed to get through her worse nightmare, losing her child and husband. :'(

After fleeing her beloved small town five years ago, Julia Bailey is back to spend Christmas with her family.

Coming back to Shadow Creek was an emotional time for Julia.
While she needed that time away to grieve and rebuild her life, it was overwhelming how much she'd missed her family and friends, especially Chase and his little girl Maggie.

Watching the relationship between Chase and Julia unfold warmed my heart. Their friendship slowly moved into something more and even though Julia was scared of the feelings she had towards Chase she also couldn't stay away.
Chase has loved Julia forever, he knows he needs to be patient and willing to let Julia take the lead if they stand any chance of a future together.

Julia Bailey left Shadow Creek five years ago following tragic circumstances. She's returning for the holidays for the first time since she left and her emotions are running strong. Chase Donovan was her rock when she needed him and now he's ready for a much deeper relationship.

This was sweet on the surface but, typical of a Victoria James story, some very tough issues roiled beneath. I loved the idyllic Christmas setting and how it juxtaposed against both Julia's and Chase's personal circumstances. His seven-year old daughter added comic relief and some very poignant moments.

It's a lovely story with a real emotional punch of both kinds. I'm looking forward to more stories in this series.

This was the perfect story to start my Christmas reading for the year.
A classic friends to lovers trope. Julia and Chase both had previous broken hearts and were reticent to recommit.
I loved both the main characters and Christmas With the Sheriff also has a wonderful cast of sub characters you will fall in love with also.

Victoria James slips some deep topics into this light romance; child neglect, single parenting, extended family, deep seated wounds and facing your fears.
My first book by Victoria James and I'm happy to say I've found a new favourite in the romance genre.

Julia lost her husband and son in a car accident and had to flee Shadow Creek. The memories were too painful for her. Fast forward 5 years and she's back to spend Christmas Holidays with her in laws.

Chase is the Sheriff and has a cute little girl. (Maggie) He has been in love with Julia the first time he saw her (in high school) But Julia dated and married his best friend so decided to hide his love instead.

It's very sweet of him to keep a picture of Julia in his refrigerator and she has no idea at all about his feelings.

This is a story about losing, moving on, second chances and finding love all over again. I thought they would make a happy family and Julia deserves to be happy again. She had her reservations at first, not wanting to get her heart broken but in the end, Chase and Maggie owned her heart.

This book was so cuteeeee! 😍
Although it has its sad parts, the love and the Christmas spirit were the strongest feelings I felt from this book.
Julia and Chase were so perfect for each other! I’m so happy I read their story. And little Maggie was such an adorable child. ❤️
The lesson I learned from this book is that no matter how hard life was for you until the present, you should never take decisions based on fear. You should face it and be brave. You should give a chance to happiness even tho the possibility of failure seems to be bigger than the one of being happy.

4 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

Well that started off with some crying! Or maybe, more like bawling. ;) It was an emotional prologue, that's for sure. And there was definitely a sorrowful thread throughout the story, but there was also lots of great romance and laughs.

I was drawn to both of our MCs right from the beginning. My heart broke for Chase knowing he had this unrequited love, and seeing him want desperately to make a try for a romance with Julia. He was just so sweet and caring and GOOD. Definitely book boyfriend material. I just wanted to hug him. And I kind of loved how he knew when to step things up and call Julia out on what he wanted for them near the end. My only problem with Chase was with his past...I loved that he had this past, but I didn't understand it. If he left his parents, where did he go? I got the impression this happened in high school, so how did he meet Michael, Jack and Julia? How did they not know of this past? It kind of felt like maybe it was added in afterwards, but the author didn't think it all through and provide continuity.

Julia was pretty fabulous too, with a good mix of sass and sweetness. Unfortunately her indecisiveness started to wear on me. She was so back and forth, and I didn't really get to see the growth I was hoping for with her. It was like I thought she was deciding things were worth it, and then she would revert to fear. And quite frankly, I don't understand what was so different at the end...*shrugs* So that kind of sucked. Almost had me thinking 3.5 instead of 4, but I really did enjoy the sweet romance otherwise so whatever...I'll do what I want. :)

I'm not always huge on kids in stories, and occasionally I couldn't help but feel a bit disbelieving of the age of Maggie, but despite that she was pretty adorable and incorrigible all at the same time...even if she didn't seem 7 most of the time. :P

The other aspect that makes me convinced of a full 4 stars is the secondary characters. I really loved the in-laws, from Edward and Cassy to Gwen. And I enjoyed seeing glimpses of future stories in this series -- maybe Jack and Lily? Gwen? I will probably be keeping my eyes peeled for them, I enjoyed this author's writing style and am intrigued by the different personalities.

So all in all this was a great book to finish off my Holiday Read-a-Thon. It had some good Christmas magic, some heart, some laughs, and delicious romance.

4.5 stars!! Chase, Chase, Chase, what an amazing man he is. Chase comes from a rough childhood but grew into a man any woman would be proud to have as her own. He's kind, patient, sexy and an awesome father.

And Julia. This woman went through one of the most devastating things a mother can go through. And it broke her, understandably so. She thought it was impossible to open herself up to love and life again all the while that's exactly what she was doing. She was strong, caring and totally amazing as well. I'm pretty hard on heroines and usually hate when they push away a great hero but I understood where she was coming from. I also knew that her feelings for Chase were second to no one and that helped.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm digging into the second in this series immediately. I loved all of the secondary characters and what they added to this story full of hope and healing. I always like books set in a small town where we get to know the people as well as the MCs.

If you're looking for a sweet read with just the right amount of drama that it doesn't overwhelm the story, then this is the book for you.

Side note: This book is not steamy and is pretty much fade to black for the most part but I didn't miss it or even really realize it until after reading. That's a testament to the writing because this girl loves the steam ;)

Side note 2: The scenes with Maggie were some of the best for me. That little girl stole the show. She reminds me a lot of my own son. She was an old soul and I adored that. She deserves someone to love her like Julia and Chase both did.

· “I’ll always come back to you.” ·

A couple of days ago, I was in the mood for a light, sweet and romantic read, so I decided to pick up this book. I was always a sucker for three things: Christmas stories, a main character returning home and characters secretly in love. This one, of course, seemed to have it all.

Don’t get me wrong—it did have all those things, only… It didn’t turn to be the kind of read I was desperately looking for (hence the rating).

First off, let me say what I loved about the book—the setting (♥), the loving and caring family, all the Christmas delicacies, and the friends-to-lovers story between Chase and Julia.

However, there were some aspects that I didn’t really like. In my opinion, the main female character, that’s Julia, spends way too much time mourning a great loss and now that she’s back, I’d have loved to see more healing than reliving the past.

Chase, on the other hand, a.k.a. the handsome sheriff ;), is a great friend and an amazing single dad. Honorable, loyal, sweet and unconditional, he’s very easy to fall for! Not to mention when you’ve been let down in the past, like Julia has.

Together, they make the perfect premise for a great romantic book. And here comes my main and only problem with this story—I felt Julia fell in love with Chase through his daughter’s stories (and that’s how the reader actually gets to know all of Chase’s best qualities). The time Julia and Chase spend together, on their own, is almost non-existant (except when Chase’s daughter is sleeping or on stage). And I wish I’d get to witness a whole lot more of just the two of them.

All in all, “Christmas with the Sheriff” was a nice read, although not as romantic as I was expecting.

4 Christmas 🎄 Stars!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

We have to let go of fear, I learned, or it will kill us and stop us from living.”

Bring on the festive Christmas books! I have honestly never really read Christmas Books at Christmas besides children's Christmas stories. This year is a first and I have managed to snag a few free Kindle Christmas Books this season. Christmas with the Sheriff is one of them. Here's a little bit of Christmas Magic- before I start my review :)

This was a story about overcoming tragedy and letting go of fear. A terrible accident happened to Julia's family a few years back and she is still struggling with moving on. She returns to her home town, where everything happened, after 5 years to help heal her heart. Enter Sheriff Chase- and the rest you'll have to read on your own! This was a heart wrenching, sweet, fun and quick read. If your looking for something fun and Christmas themed, I totally recommend this one! You can read in one sitting :)

3 stars. This is a cute book - it’s straightforward and pretty predictable (not my typical favorites but it worked for this story). I enjoyed it throughout, everything moved along nicely with a decent storyline, good MCs and interesting side characters (who will of course feature in the future books). The backstories of the hero and heroine are complex and sad, but the story really didn’t feel all too sad overall. I think the major problem that this book had was that it relied rather heavily on the time that the hero & heroine knew each other in the past, and they didn’t really spend all that much time together in the book. There was a lot of “other stuff” going on that didn’t always include them being together.

Safety is fine in this book but it depends on personal preference because H&h knew each other for a long time and she married his best friend. He never told her how he felt and moved on with his life. Heroine’s husband and son died in a car crash 5 years before this book starts. He always loved the heroine though. He also got married and had a child but his wife left him and their daughter about 4 years prior. Both celibate for years. No OM/OW drama in this book.
TW: loss of spouse, loss of child, cheating, child abandonment, child abuse & neglect, alcoholism

A short review to update challenges

This holiday romance is the first in the Shadow Creek Montana series.  While Christmas with the Sheriff is quite short, the characters are well drawn, mostly authentic and enjoyable.  Julia comes home to visit her in-laws for the first time after being widows 5 years ago. Both the emotional story and the career aspects are rather realistic.

Julia has known Chase for much of her life, so it is not surprising they are close, or how they spend time together now. Maggie is a great small addition to the story. The connection of family and long-time friends adds to this heartwarming romance.  The ending gives me ideas about the next one in the series. I'd like to read more.

"More than anything, more than his feelings for her, his wanting for her, he wanted a happy ending for her."

This wasn't a rave and flail read for me. It was, for the most part, just ok. I can't say that the story was bad, or the writing. I had no trouble seeing it through, and by the end felt invested enough in the characters that I needed to see how it ended. The small town aspect was right up my alley and beautifully done. I am an absolute sucker for the entwined characters in a small town romance. It is definitely a weakness of mine, and probably this books greatest strength.

What pulled it down for me was the emotional aspect. The emotions were written, the pain was of the kind that would absolutely be crippling, but I just couldn't feel it. I could read about it, but nothing crept off the pages to make me invest myself further. The feelings of the characters were not only obvious, but continuously stated in the minds of this dual point of view. I found myself skimming frequently through their inner dialogues, because it was nothing new.

The single dad aspect had me swooning a bit, and the efforts of a grieving mother to move on with her life had me hooked - waiting to see if she could achieve the “happily ever after” she so deserved after the hand life had dealt her. In the end, I did enjoy reading this book, I just didn't feel very much in the process. ~ George, 3 Stars

Loved this book!! It's a wonderful small town romance with characters that will grip you by the heart. Julia Bradley has suffered heartache that most people can never imagine. She not only lost her husband in an accident but her young son as well. Unable to stay in the small town they had lived in she fled far and fast. She returns to her hometown after 5 years to spend the holidays with her family. While there she sees Chase Donovan again. Chase has loved Julia for as long as he can remember. When she married his best friend he tried to move even marrying himself but one look at her again and he knows he's only been fooling himself. While in Shadow Creek Julia and Chase spend some time together along with Chase's adorable daughter Maggie. The relationship between father and daughter is wonderful and being with these two may be exactly what Julia's heart needs to heal and move forward.

You don't want to miss this incredible heart touching and uplifting story. I highly recommend it.

Get out the kleenex! Or at least I had to! This story just opens up your heart and gives you warm fuzzies and gets you in the mood for Christmas! I sat down and didn’t get up until I was done reading it!

Five years ago, Julia lost her husband and her son to an accident. She ran away afterward. Now she is back visiting her inlaws and her friends. Then Chase shows up there and both find themselves with feelings for the other. Although, Chase has always loved Julia. He just wasn’t the first to capture her heart. Chase’s daughter is also the same age as her son would have been. Julia loves that little girl. Besides, who couldn’t fall in love with her, she cracks me up with her humor and unfailing devotion to her dad. But Maggie and Julia need each other as well!

Julia finds herself still wanting to run away. She is afraid. She isn’t sure she could stand losing her heart again to the Sheriff and his daughter. Silly Julia!

If you want to get in the mood for Christmas, love a tear jerker, love children and their humor, love HEA’s, loving families, and finding someone who loves you totally then this might be for you!

Wow! Christmas with the Sheriff packed a punch. My emotions were all over the place. Tears, smiles, big sighs - I had them all.

Julia lost it all one rainy night. Filled with grief she left the town that held too many memories and hadn't returned for 5 years. Now she's back stronger and filled with guilt for not having been back to help her in-laws out, among other things. The one emotion she didn't expect was her developing feelings for her late husband's best friend.

Chase missed his best friend but his friend is gone but Julia isn't. He had always loved Julia but would never act on it until now. He had his own demons to battle but it was all worth it if Julia would just give them a chance.

I loved this couple. Julia was sweet and in so much pain, but managed to hide it and be a step in mom for Chase's daughter since her own mom abandoned her. Chase was so patient and so good. He was everyone's rock.

I definitely would recommend this book but be prepared to shed some tears along the way.

You want tons of angst and tons of Christmas cuteness? Try Christmas with the Sheriff! An easy read, but very touching. Julia hasn't been back to her hometown of Shadow Creek since she went through a terrible tragedy five years ago. Now that she's back for a visit, it's getting harder and harder for her to say goodbye again.

I loved the relationship between Chase and Julia, especially along with Maggie. I wish we got to see more than those three characters - yes, we got glimpses, but it was not enough for me. Definitely a great curl-up-by-the-fire romance, but not one I would pick up again.

Victoria James has a new hit series!!!!! Yes, that’s me shouting. It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Victoria James. She writes romances that are fun, charming, and hit on all the right emotions. Add in Christmas and a small child, I’m a goner. Victoria is one of those authors whose name I see and I just grab the book. So, I went into reading Christmas with the Sheriff not knowing what it was about.

Immediately, your emotions are on high alert with the Prologue. You’re left just a little shattered as the images of the scene run through your mind. Fast forward five years, to present day and you find yourself wanting to reach into the book and hold Julia’s hand for support. After the death of her family, she had to get away from Shadow Creek. In the five years she’s been away, she’s managed to slightly heal from her loss and the secret her husband hid from her. She finds herself wondering if the people she held near and dear to her heart knew about the secret all along. Julia feels guilty because life went on without her in Shadow Creek, and she wasn’t there when her friends and loved ones needed her the most.

Chase Donovan hasn’t always had an easy life. His childhood is one he likes to keep close to the vest so to speak. But Chase is really one of the good guys. When Julia’s world was turned upside down, he was there to support her, even as he himself was reeling from the loss of his best friend. In the five years since Julia has been gone, things for Chase has changed as well. He’s now a single father to a seven-year-old little girl named Maggie. But something that hasn’t changed is his feelings for Julia, which goes back to the day she first arrived in Shadow Creek her sophomore year of high school.

Julia can’t help but be reminded of what she lost every time she looks at Maggie and does things with her. She’s sworn that she would never leave herself vulnerable to love and loss again. But ever so slowly, a man who has always been in her heart and a very insightful little girl are going to make her realize that Christmas is truly a time for forgiveness, family, love, and peace.

Victoria James has given readers a closed door romance which if you didn’t believe in the power of love will make you a believer. This book was way more emotional than I thought it was going to be. I thought this would just be a sweet romance story, which it was, but there was there was a lot more to this story. Christmas with the Sheriff dealt with grief, coping, love, family ties, and much more. I personally would have like the sad parts to be a little less prevalent, but I understood that it was important for the characters to go through those emotions that everyone has felt before. It all felt very natural.

As I mentioned, there was a sweet romance in this book. I thought the author did a great job at building up the romance between Chase and Julia. The chemistry and the emotional connection between them was palpable. I was definitely shipping them! Chase and Julia had so many cute moments that warmed my soul. I thought they were perfect together.

Chase was the perfect love interest for Julia. I thought Chase was kind, loving, understanding, passionate, and basically perfect. Chase never pushed Julia into a relationship when she wasn't ready. He knew she was dealing with a lot, and he never tried to make her feel uncomfortable. I am so glad he finally got a chance at love. Julia was another great character as well. I admired her strength and love for those around her. My only issue with Julia was that she was very hot and cold with her feelings regarding Chase. I completely understood how she had difficulty dealing with her emotions, but it was also frustrating because I just wanted her and Chase together!

This was a great Christmas romance to read that made me feel all of the emotions, even if it was a bit predictable at times. One moment I would be feeling warm and fuzzy, and the next moment my heart would be breaking for these characters. Overall, I thought this was a charming and smile-inducing read. I would recommend this to anyone who loves adorable Christmas love stories!

This story was a great mix of bittersweet loss and new beginnings. The strength and effort Julia expounded in trying to start over from such a devastating loss pulled my heartstrings, while the patience and silent love Chase provided Julia melted my heart on the spot! I really loved how Julia clicked into Chase and Maggie’s little family unit like she’d always been there! The tingling attraction blended wonderfully with family dynamics, and I was thrilled to have a bit of closure from the epilogue provided in the author’s newsletter!

Christmas with the Sheriff is heartwarming and adorable - pretty much the perfect book to read by the fire this holiday season!

Christmas with the Sheriff introduces Julia Bailey and Chase Donovan, two longtime best friends reunited after several years. Julia has been running the last few years - running from the loss of her husband and son as well as her husband's heartbreaking secret. This Christmas, however, she's had to forgo the running - she's returning home to spend Christmas with her husband's family. Chase Donovan has missed Julia over the last few years - he loves her as a friend and maybe even something more. So when he runs into her and the sparks begin to fly, he wonders if maybe this year will finally be their time...

Christmas with the Sheriff had a lot of good going for it.

First of all, I loved the small town setting. Shadow Creek has some interesting, quirky residents. I loved the meddling to be found as well as the delicious drama over things such as the real estate situation.

Additionally, the characters had a lot of heart. My heart broke for Julia. At first, it's not said what her husband did all those years ago (I had my suspicions though). When it was finally revealed, I wasn't too surprised, but my heart still broke all the same for Julia - what a horrible weight to have carried all these years with so many unanswered questions. I truly respected how she wouldn't break his "image" in front of his parents. She wanted him to remain pure in their eyes, which was honestly the sweetest thing she could've done. Additionally, I enjoyed seeing her find her "grove" again with Chase and his daughter. She was awkward at first, especially given the child situation, but the more she left her heart open up, the more she became whole again. Chase, on the other hand, was adorable, sexy, and sweet. His relationship with his daughter was funny as well as "aww" worthy. I also loved how he was such constant source of support for Julia.

The writing style in this was simple and to the point - this book took me about an hour to read. I felt that Victoria did a great job of developing the characters as well as the romance; however, at times I did wish there was slightly more development in Julia's friendships with other side characters.

In all, Christmas with the Sheriff is another "win" this holiday season. I look forward to reading more by Victoria James in the future.

A lovely holiday read. You know one of those romances that just leaves you feeling warm inside. Thought it had it's difficult moments and I felt incredibly sad in the beginning. Nothing special but for an Amazon freebie it was a lot better than what I expected.

P.S. Still (Dec 18th) free so if you want to give it a try now's the moment.

This is a lighthearted, sweet story about love, tragedy, and romance. Chase has always been in love with his best friend’s wife and feels guilty about it. But he never would’ve done anything about it. Then his friend dies and Julie is left alone to mourn the death of not only her husband but also her son. It was emotional time for her so she just left town. Now she is back after five years and Chase has until Christmas to prove to her how good they can be together. It’s up to him and his daughter, Maggie to convince Julie not to leave.
Julie has suffered enough. It is not possible for her to let someone else in. She doesn’t want to risk losing loved ones the way she did. Although she cannot deny her attraction to Chase. He has been good to her. He is her rock, but she is scared to have her heart broken once more.
Will people she adores be able to convince her to stay or not?
I enjoyed reading it. It was a quick read for me. I’d recommend it to all contemporary romance readers.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

At 165 pages, I consider this more of a novella than a novel. Nevertheless, though a quick read, I enjoyed these characters and thought it was a sweet holiday story.

This was my first read from this author and I will definitely try another from her. I'm curious to see what happens to some other characters from this book, so I'd like to continue with this series, as well.
