deserved five star just for this moment
I definitely liked this edition more than the first one. The pacing, plot and characters were great. These graphic novels capture the aesthetic and drama of the TV show so well. I love that the creators thought about how they could write these so that they read like the show watches (if that makes sense). This had great pacing, weaving together many stories and plots whilst maintaining funny and interesting character interactions and growth that didn't take away from the plot.
Republic City is such a rich world to mine plots from and I really like what they're doing with this. It's a fresh and interesting continuation of the story whilst also keeping some of the original themes and complications from the show - like urbanisation, gang violence and political corruption. These themes are really interesting in this series since they're not so big in the original A;TLA
Korra and Asami ARE MY EVERYTHING. I also am loving Bolin and Mako working together in this. We're hoping my kids Kai and Jinora get more action though because I love them.

Yes, I'm biased, but that doesn't change the fact that this was a great installment to the series. Usually, the middle comic is where the story drops as it is setting up the third and final installment of the trilogy, but that's not the case here. Corrupt politicians, Indian and Muslim representations, romance trouble, supportive friendships and relationships, humour, action, plot twists and intrigue...
What more could I have wanted from this world I love so much?

"Zhu Li, you are the most tenacious, brilliant, inspiring woman I know! The people love you! If you really want this, Raiko doesn't stand a chance."
Whoever tells me Varrick isn't great has not read this.
I love all the female power that we get on this series! Zhu Li wanting to run for president is the most inspiring and wonderful thing. I feel so proud of her.
On other news, things are getting heated with Korra and her opponents and their latest move is bold and I'm kinda in love with it. I just know Korra will explode in the next issue.
Obviously, I know things are gonna work out for the best and things are gonna end up being solved and all that. Still, I love a good fight and as for now it appears we're gonna have a really good one on our hands. What with all the spirits debacle and all the other things piling up.
Oh well. Here I go!

In this second volume of Turf Wars we pick up right after Korra faces off against Tokuga who is Republic City's latest bad guy and is hell bent on taking over the city and getting revenge on her.
As I already assumed this book is packed with a lot more action than the first one. We also get to see Korra and Asami trying to find a balance between their new relationship and their roles as leaders in their respective fields, which isn't easy since chaos and threats seems to surround them in every direction. Luckily team Avatar is there to help. Overall rating for this book is a 3,5*

This was much more action and plot-centered than Part 1, but just as much fun! Reading these graphic novels really does feel like watching an episode of the show, and I loved how this installment took a little more time to develop the politics of Republic City. It made me especially happy to see much more of Zhu Li!
I can't wait for Part 3 in June!!!

Okay, stuff is heating up!
I liked the details of Korra and Asami's nascent relationship, it's realistic, and quite cute. And Mako and Bolin are an amazing duo - I just wish they had more nuance. The original Gaang had really great characters, but Team Avatar just doesn't quite measure up. I know I shouldn't be comparing the two shows, but it's hard not to.
The plot is carrying along nicely, though, so I'm having a lot of fun with this. 4/5 stars.

So good! The comic is a gift that keeps on giving! I love seeing Korra and the squad!
The illustrations are lovely and the plot is going strong, I love wars for powers, both between the gangs and for the presidency. I'm seeing a lot of ideas relevant to our modern society and I'm living for it!
The characters are amazing as always. I love seeing Korra and Asami in their day-to-day interactions, Bolin and Mako are being kickass cops. Special shoutout goes to Zhu Li, who is brilliant and I love her. Zhu Li and Varrick are so cute, I love them.

I mean I still love the world and the characters and KORRASAMI [and how awkward Mako is lmao] but overall there was just something missing from this volume and I didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. I think part of it was the art style which I thought looked vaguely hurried and unfinished, and also that the plot to me was suffering from 'middle book syndrome' where it just seems like it's kind of a bridge to get from the beginning to the end. But it's still a fun series and I'm looking forward to the next installment!

How can I only ever rate other than 5 stars for this?
I am honestly screaming so hard right now that I'm surprised my upstairs neighbors haven't contacted the police or something. I've been more than excited ever since it was announced that a comic about Legend of Korra was in the making. I wanted more of this incredible world and its character especially since the show ended just when Korra and Asami their relationship had begun.
The first comic focused a lot on Korra and Asami talking openly about their relationship to each other and telling others about it who've all been nothing but accepting. In this one they delve into further into that as they realize how much they truly care about each other. I just have to say that Korra and Asami have such a healthy relationship. I mean sure they argue with each other,,,
,,, but they learn from it.
I'm not going to talk too much about the plot of the story because I don't want to spoil anything. Only that this comic was a lot more action packed that it predecessor. Whereas the first one felt like a holiday in the spirit world, this one deals with a lot more heavier topics. Being the middle comic book in a trilogy it ended once again with a sort of cliff hanger. I truly have no idea how long I need to wait until the release of the final comic. A part of me doesn't want it to be released because then it would be officially over, but I have to know how this storyline progresses.
Once again all the stars for Michael Dante Dimartino for writing this story and for Irene Koh for drawing this beautiful comic and bring the story alive. I cannot praise them enough for everything that they've done.

This definitely feels like the middle book of a trilogy (which it is). I looooved part one, but this just feels like a bridge between the first and third books. (Also part one was very Korrasami focused, so of course I liked that more.) I'm looking forward to the conclusion, though!

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first, but I think that's on me this time. The art is still the same beautiful quality, the writing is still true to the characters, the worldbuilding is still impeccable. It's just, this volume happens to feature two things that I personally really dislike in stories. And on top of that there's a cliffhanger!
Number one thing that I don't enjoy in stories almost 100% of the time: stories about gangs and organized crime. I just, I just hate it. I don't know why. I find those stories dull and hateful. I become resentful when a TV show I like does a story that features story arcs about it. If you can get me to enthusiastically like a story about organized crime you have worked a miracle. And what does this volume center on? Organized crime in Republic City. Sigh.
Second thing: Stories about when the people turn on the heroes who are protecting them. I get that this is a thing that would be likely to happen, say, if we were to live in a world where people had magical powers, because people are fickle and stupid. But I still don't like it. And what do we have here? Another instance of Korra doing her best, and the people being angry at her for it. I didn't mind it in season three when the spirit jungle invaded Republic City because everything else that was going on either distracted or enhanced that storyline. But here, I dislike reading about the main storyline, and then Korra's arc is to yet again have the people turn on her. I just didn't find it a very fun reading experience.
Hoping that #3 features way less of things I personally dislike so I can go back to writing fluffy reviews about how pretty Asami is and how Zhu Li is a badass, and so on. And like, Meeko saves people with fartbending or whatever.

I was hesitant to continue the series, but enough is enough—being a fan of this comic, how could I not read it?
At first, I was afraid it might be as dull as the first book, but it turned out to be the complete opposite. It reminded me of the beginning, when the characters worked together to fix problems and mistakes. What made it even better was the return of some characters I had really missed. It brought me back to the days when I used to watch the show.
The ending was thrilling, and I think I’ll continue the series tonight.

I loved this volume. Seeing all the characters and their lives after the tv show really makes this something special. Of course, my favorite scenes were the scenes featuring my blessed OTP. Korra and Asami really make a kick ass couple!
The plot thickens in this issue and honestly with that ending, I’m super curious to see how it all wraps up in volume 3.
Overall, another brilliant volume.

Okay ... This part is even better than the first ... How is this possible !?
Tensions are still high in Republic City. Raiko is only concerned about his election campaign and people are anxious for security. He makes the decision to surround the spiritual portal with an army, Korra and the airbenders are against it, but they can't get the president back down on his decision.
Korra, Asami and Tenzin propose that Zhuli be compete for the presidency of the republic city and she promises to think about the case. Meanwhile, Asami works on the plan of building new housings, yet one of the city's criminal factions threatens her and asks for a tip not to attack her. Asami refuses and they promise to return.
When Asami says this to Korra, she becomes furious and tries to threaten the gang, however Asami calm her by saying that she doesn't want Korra to protect her.
Korra incorrectly understands this. It's interesting to see her so protective of Asami. It makes me wonder: is Korra being so protective because Asami has no powers or does she have stronger feelings for Asami than she had for Mako?
In the volume, Korra says she has never felt anything as intense about someone as she feels about Asami, so perhaps this protective side is because of her feelings and not just because Asami is a non-bender.
Can not wait to read the next volume!

I kind of forgot how much I liked Korra until I recently rewatched the first season of the show. The comic's a lot of fun, too. I'll be reading Part Three soon!

I don't know what to say except that I love all these characters so much (especially Lin Beifong) and I'm near tears at how happy I am to get more of them. The art is gorgeous, and the story is exciting and engaging, and Lin Beifong is a total badass. Also, hooray for my favorite bisexuals!

'Turf Wars Part Two' is very middle-book, with everything moving towards the conclusion in the next book, reaching no resolution on its own. There is less time for character development, and like the previous volume it is too short! The subplots are many as to make me wonder how each of them will possibly reach a real conclusion later on in such a mini-miniseries. There is less Korrasami as well, as this comic volume is mainly plot-driven (slowly-paced as it appears to be), but they do have a couple of nice scenes together. Hopefully it all leads up to something spectacular and mind-blowing in the finale, satisfying the needs of exciting, well-planned and well-thought out storytelling, and the needs of the passionate, progressive fanbase.
(The kidnapping plot at the end is cliche and predictable; a device that's a little lazy).
That being said, 'The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part Two' contains a lot to like about it. The Mako and Bolin scenes are funny and well-written - I think Bolin is receiving the most character development here. We see the devastating impact that both the industrialism and the turf wars are having on the spirit world, we learn more about how the turfs and gangs work, Lin Beifong is given more to do (albeit in her usual, impulsive, semi-competent style for a police chief) and so is Tenzin (at the expense of Kya, sadly), Zhu Li, now running for president of Republic City, is adorable and so is her oddball relationship with Varrick, and the artwork is as fantastic as ever. You can really see the tension on the character's faces, and their emotional state from their body language, and even their hair.
And same-sex relationships are still treated as normal. Bravo once again for a children's comic. Though the coming-out issues that were brilliantly, tenderly written in the previous volume, have become non-issues, at least for now, in the wake of everything else being jammed in.
I eagerly await 'Part Three'. How will it handle so much going on and with so many players? Whatever you think of 'Part Two', it will make you want to see what happens next immediately.

Varrick and Zhu Li are so great and I'm all for Zhu Li as president. Bolin's realization of him being the bad cop was great LOL. Gotta love that line about Mako's ex-girlfriends dating each other. He cannot get a break and I love it because it's what he deserves, ha. Tenzin and fam remain the most ridiculously lovable. I actually really like all the characters including the antagonist except that Raiko and his assistant are both annoying af.
SHOUTOUT TO ALL THE BADASS WOMEN OF THIS WORLD FROM KORRA, ASAMI, LIN BEIFONG (MY LOVE), ZHU LI TO EVEN JARGALA, LBR. I'm probably missing a couple because that's how amazing this series is.
The art remains top-notch. 10/10, no notes.

He cannot get a break and I love it because it's what he deserves, ha. Tenzin and fam remain the most ridiculously lovable. I actually really like all the characters including the antagonist except that Raiko and his assistant are both annoying af.
SHOUTOUT TO ALL THE BADASS WOMEN OF THIS WORLD FROM KORRA, ASAMI, LIN BEIFONG (MY LOVE), ZHU LI TO EVEN JARGALA, LBR. I'm probably missing a couple because that's how amazing this series is.
The art remains top-notch. 10/10, no notes.
Can't believe this ends the way it does, though. I'd have died if I had to wait months for the next volume. ;____;
