Having just finalized the divorce from her husband, Dana Darling feels uncertain and lost in life. As a woman in her mid-30s, where does she go from here? How does she move on? Dana knows the divorce was the right thing to do and these feelings inside can no longer be ignored. She’s certain real love is out there for her… but how can she find it?
When her good friend Maggie invites her on a road trip out west, Dana’s eyes begin to open. Maggie is a firecracker, a sweet, pretty, and sensual woman who Dana has always admired. And while Maggie has always been open about her own love of women, Dana has never been able to come out to her friend and admit her true feelings. Dana is about to find out, however, that when you’re on the open road with a fun and flirty woman like Maggie, things have a way of coming out like they never have before.
Will the freedom Dana feels on this road trip vacation allow her to finally open up and be free herself? Can this liberation from the responsibilities of life set Dana on the path she was meant to travel all along? Or will the coming out Dana has always deserved continue to be under construction? Some road blocks in life are difficult to navigate. But for Dana the call of the open road is too deafening to dismiss.
Never thought I'd say this but there was too much kinky sex in this book. Very little story line. Reading the synopsis it sounded like my kind of road trip. I loved the possible relationship brewing between Maggie and Dana but they were doin it like bunnies on almost every page and that just got old. I also forgot about Nicolette Dane's love affair with the butt (kinda gross).
DNF at 25%. The whole time it was just the 35 year old mc fawning over old her college bestie as if she were a horny teenager. Repeatedly saying things like she's sooo tiny, such a pocket rocket, so lithe, so taut, her thighs, her legs, her butt... Even went on to describe her shaved pubes and 'pleat'. Yep.
There was hardly any real story or personality just lots of sexualised fetishism from a 'straight girl' whose been pining for her tiny gay college roomie for decades. Made me uncomfortable.
This is an Erotica. It reads simple, and sort of like a YA due to their maturity combined with the lingo. Imagine reading a free online erotica. That is what this is.
At the age of 35, Dana is now officially divorced and headed on a road trip with her longtime friend, and crush, Maggie. She is so very excited, and can't seem to keep her eyes off of her petite friend, with the booty and the rack like whoa.
Dana is struggling with her sexuality, but miraculously hasn't truly questioned it in 35 years, though all signs point to Virginia (I'm trying to not be crude).
I honestly don't know how to react to this one. It's an erotic novel that is also trying to be serious, and bring the romantic feels, but how? No joke, the first night of their road trip then She feels liberated and wants to suddenly talk about how she might be a lesbian.
She lives in Chicago, her friend is an out and proud lesbian... I feel like this conversation could have happened a very long time ago.
Nothing is wrong with Erotica... at all. This one just seems to be reaching for something more, but so far it isn't getting there. I feel it could have been shorter and still told Dana's story.
The story got bogged down by some seemingly unnecessary dialogue. At times, it read like an extended advertisement for AirBnB. Readers don't really need play by play of minutia that doesn't contribute to the exposition of the story. With that being said, the characters are very engaging and the prose is steamy despite the authors insatiable need to bury it under heaps of mixed metaphor and overly precious descriptions. She out romance-noveled herself, and that led to some laughing and eye rolling. Not the best, but far and away not the worst. It's a relatively quick read. It is written in first person, so if that bothers you pick another book.
I found this book really well written. There wasn't alot of background given, but it's really not necessary . It was really all about letting go of past strongholds, being free to explore every part if ones sexuality.. .. It's very detailed.. I didn't find alot of romance, .. But it's a great story .... it made me blush a few times ..lol. I did like that the author was not afraid to talk about sexual desires so many people would not be open to. She took the time to really show how coming out and realizing who one is can be scary. There was nothing but acceptance shown. Once the trip was over. The book kinda lost it momentum And ended , so really this was the only part I felt rushed.. there really was alot more she could of built on. Like , what the family thought, how friends reacted, how well the main character relationship adjusted to "normal life".? All in all it's a very good read.
A very enjoyable fun and sexy story! When Maggie invites her friend Dana on a road trip, little did either of them know how right they were for each other. Both characters were great, and I loved the banter and wit and friendly back and forth. They were both pretty hilarious. Loved the road trip too; haven't read many books about road trips so I was concerned I'd get a little bored but the story is mainly visiting four locations and very little time is spent in the car, so that was nice. They visit Boulder, Salt Lake City, Mount Rushmore and somewhere near Madison. My US geography isn't great but it was fun to experience these little bits of America, and I sort of had the giddy feeling one should expect from a road trip, so that was a bonus. The sex was hot, and lots of it, which I love. This borders between romance/erotica, so if you're not a fan, you might want to skip this. But if you want a cheeky sexy story, dive right in! I look forward to reading another by this author.
Another excellent read from Nicolette Dane. Believable characters and a book full of self-discovery. Plenty of steamy scenes guaranteed to keep the readers happy.
This was a lovely story. Great characters and a very fun read. I loved the unbridled joy of Maggie and to see Dana opening up to herself was fantastic. A great read.
