Maddox finally has her life sorted. She’s happily settled in to hibernate, when a murder rudely interrupts her winter bliss. It seems a copycat serial killer may be using her ex-husband’s latest thriller as a guide to murder. She’s not convinced, but Joe is paranoid and determined to stop the next kill. What kind of ex-wife would she be if she didn’t step in to help? A road trip with her ex-husband and the sinfully hot Detective Bishop? A psycho serial killer. What could possibly go wrong?
The third book in the series is even more enjoyable than Book 1Worst Laid Plans and Book 2 The Butler Didn't Do It. Written in the same light-hearted tone as the earlier books, this easy to read novel is great fun and a quick read. The romance between Maddox Storm and the delicious cop Nate continues on it's rocky road, with a new complication popping up. Maddie's ex husband and her BFF add colour and background to the new murder story which has a clever plot. But our intrepid Maddie never gives up...! I often find individual books in a series sometimes leave me with a feeling of being unfinished - WORDS THAT KILL has a satisfying ending while still keeping me hooked on the overarching story of the romance between Maddie and Nate. A delightful read!
Maddox has all sorts of trust issues, so she is afraid to start a relationship with Hate a police officer. Her ex husband has caused a lot of the trust issues, so when she meets Nate's partner Sam it just brings back her trust issues. Her ex husband Joe wrote a thriller and now someone is killing people according to the book Joe wrote so Maddox , Nate, Joe and Maddox's friend try to hunt down TBE killer before they kill again using Joe's book to guide them. It is very interesting on how they go about it and the situations they get into. This book does not disappoint.
I enjoy this series and how Maddox might be awkward but she acts like an adult when it comes to the very serious things. She doesn't jump into one relationship before she finds herself after getting out of another. The main characters were back and just as funny. Nate has a partner and Sam isn't the most likable so we will see how her and Maddox end up getting along. A another great book!
Love these books, the characters, and the comedy/sarcasm. Keeps the heart pumping, the hope for Maddox and Nate going, and always has at least one surprise at the end. Some of the grammar errors annoyed me, and after so many ever-worsening scenarios, I expected a more flamboyant, tooth-gritting confrontation with the killer.. BUT it was still worth every minute of the read.
I love this series! Maddie's life is in flux. Her divorce is now final. She is really taking time for reflection, does she trust her self to make decisions? Her ex-husband finds himself in trouble so Maddie feels she has to help out and so the adventure begins. I have grown to love all the characters in Maddie's world including Burns! I can't wait for the next adventure.
Couldn't put any of the books in the series down. Murder, ex husband(I've got 2 of them) and romance. Throw in life in the crapper and you have a great book
It had been some time since I read book 2 in this series, and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I slipped back into Maddox Storm's world. She is living in a Bed and Breakfast/Inn that she used her ex-husband's money to buy into when she caught him cheating on her and they divorced. She has encountered some bodies in the past, and was able to solve the mystery each time as to who "done it." After her ex-husband looses his apartment in NYC, he also comes and lives in the Inn, making for some awkward moments! Joe is a successful author, and has continued his writing.
When the third book picks up the story, Joe has finished a major novel just as news breaks about a horrible kidnapping and death of a senator's daughter. Distraught, Joe calls Maddox to his writing space and ask her opinion as what to do. Being in the dark because Maddox never bothered to read his book, he then has to explain to her that the kidnapping/murder was taken exactly from his book. From this point on, Joe, Maddox, her best friend Jenna, and would be boyfriend Nate go on a road trip to stop the next kidnapping and murder and prove Joe is innocent of the crime. What a road trip!
Just when everything points to a vivid imagination, there is another kidnapping and a day early according to the book schedule. True to form, Maddox can't stay out of crime solving, and she can't wait for back-up from law enforcement Nate and his partner Sam. Now two people need rescuing!
In a terrifying and fast paced conclusion, I found my fingernails awfully close to my mouth...teeth waiting for a nibble. Ms. Robyns writes with humor and understatements, but when called for, she pens horror filled pages with aplomb. The characters are believable and right down to the wire with their resolution. I was revolted and amazed at what the murderer was actually doing. I have to say this was like no other cozy mystery I have ever read! Definitely kept me reading and rushing to the end.
This is a stand alone mystery, but much better if you have read the books in order-my recommendation is to do just that!
