The author documents challenges that black women may uniquely face in career building and leadership aspirations and what can be done to overcome, them drawing lessons from how other successful women did it. Although the context of the book is based on the US, I found relevant lessons as a black woman myself on a career building journey.

Exceptional Book for Exceptional Women

This book was a great read, and I highly recommend it for actual and aspiring Black women leaders. I plan to share it with my millennial nieces and mentees!

Excellence in Action

I am a black woman in executive leadership in the nonprofit sector ; the insight shared in this book is empowering. You are living in your greatness as you blaze trails by honoring your uniqueness. Thank you, Dr. Avis, for sharing your story and the stories of powerful black women who lead through excellence in action. I am ready to continue carving my path and lifting others as I climb. I will advocate for others to have opportunities to lead as I sit at tables of influence.

Loved it!

So many gems and nuggets of wisdom in this book. I did a lot of highlighting. There are tips I can actually put into practice.
