By reading and thinking, students can devise strategies to solve math problems. Through practice and reinforcement, math skills can be mastered leading to improved performance on standardized assessments.
The purpose of the Grade 1 math workbook is to prepare students for real world problem solving situations. The problems in the Grade 1 math workbook includes vocabulary and skills appropriate for students in grade 1. This is a math for kids book, providing the students a chance to check their solutions. Word problems are carefully constructed to align to grade 1 math standards and the math practices. Computation is appropriate to grade level expectations. Book consists of 12 chapters, each with 10 word problems geared towards specific concepts and skills such as addition, subtraction, place value and counting money.
Students should read problems carefully and think about what math operations to apply in order to successfully solve the problem. After devising a possible solution, students can check their answer and if necessary, revise their strategies and solutions. A student’s problem solving skills is one of the most important skills to master in order to obtain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Conceptual understanding is an essential factor in student achievement in mathematics.
I assume we can remember when we really started going to school in the first grade, and the Kindergarten has been our, thanks to our parents. Introduction to an environment which we had to learn to share with other children our age, who might have come from a different background.
We all can remember the reading primer where we not only learned to read but to begin to understand what we had read as well. Our teachers used to ask us questions regarding the reading for that day. For me, being a child of the 1950’s the book had been the quintessential primer of that time, “Fun with Dick and Jane.” I happen to possess a teacher’s copy of the book complete with lesson plans and questions, somewhere in my collection of books.
At the same time we also began to learn about numbers and the thing we had been told by our teacher was math.
Mr. Stephen Hill in this book has taken the simple math problems we’ve learned in the first grade and combined it with the simple primer language we used as we started learning how to with to give the book’s younger readers a book which contains 120 math word problems which to answer with the aid of their parent[s]. In this book readers have to take the words they read and then translate it into actual numbers and then do the math. Included in this book is also a section of math which we as adults take for granted and that is $$ MONEY $$. And in the beginning of the book there’s a note for parents and teachers on how to make the best use of this book.
For educating its young readers in this manner I’ve given this book 5 STARS.
The book contains simple easy to understand mathematical problems for children who can count to 10. Items used in the problems restated to include Legos, blocks, or other items that would help children visualize the math problem. For example, use real pennies, nickels, and dimes Chapter 9 exercises.
I sat down with some of the kids in the apartment complex and worked with those who had some trouble with math problems. This book helped them achieve success in working math. It's a very helpful book.
Great resource of exercises. Well-written, interesting, diverse examples, simple language. This is definitely a very helpful book, even for me as a non-native speaker. I definitely recommend it!
