Marked at Birth

Rate this book
What do you do if people say you are born with the “mark of the devil,” especially in Jamaica where many believe in the spirits of good and evil? If you are Isabella Pigmore (Bella), born with a birthmark so pronounced that she faces ridicule for most of her young life, you feel bad, very bad. Growing up feeling like a freak, Bella clings to the only support she has, her mother. But when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances and she is left alone with her abusive father, Bella suffers dearly at the hands of the man who should protect her.

Leaving her hometown of Clarendon, Jamaica, behind, Bella travels to a new town, hoping to become invisible in a parish where she isn’t known by anyone. But once again, the people she should be able to trust betray her in the worst possible way. Bella becomes a pawn in a twisted, treacherous plot with murderous ramification. As her life spirals out of control, will she find the power and resilience to fight for the only thing that now matters in her life? Will Bella be able to rise above her low self esteem to realize that she is beautiful and wonderfully made in the image of God?

Theresa A. Campbell is the author of the soul-fulfilling, entertaining novels, "Marked at Birth", "His Final Deal", "Are You There, God?" and its sequel, "God Has Spoken".

"Are You There, God?" was selected as a Must-Read HEA romance in 2015 by USA Today.

Growing up in rural Jamaica without electricity until she was about 11years old made Theresa read a lot. The lack of modern amenities did not detract from her creativity; in a sense, it improved her ability to see the ending of a story from a different perspective.

Theresa's sense of purpose is entrenched in the belief that God is always there for us, and she knows in her heart that she has to share this with her readers. It's Theresa's objective to keep it real at all times in her books so everyone can relate to her characters.

This book had my heart aching for the character Bella. She lost her mom to the abuse of her father; only to have him start abusing her. She was born with a birthmark on her face. Her father called her ugly names and beat her daily. After he died, she left the parish she lived in to get a new start at Life. Read the book to find out what takes place in her life for God to show her how beautiful she is.

Overall this was a good story, but there were a few things I didn't care for and took points off of my rating for. I mainly didn't like how Jesus' name was used in vain in this book a number of times, even by the pastor. This was supposed to be a Christian book. There is nothing Christian about that kind of language and it has no place in Christian fiction.

This was phenomenal , a beautiful, inspirational , heartfelt👏🏾👏🏾

There are so many more words that could be used to describe this book and I'd say that this is one of my top reads of 2023.

I went into this book blind because I never read the synopsis, I saw the cover and was drawn to it. I read it and was not disappointed.

What Bella went through with her worthless father had my heart heavy, her poor mother loved that man blindly and it caused her own death. Bella went through so many trails and tribulation from the abuse of her father to the deception of people who she thought had her interest at heart.

I'm happy that Bella got her happy ending with a man that loves her, she trusting in God again and her daughter and the good people that she met while in Port Antonio.

This is her testimony!

I could go on and on about this book but I'm just gonna say, there were so many lesson in this book. Your worst enemy could be the same person that you're sleeping with, polices often time ignore and turn a blind eye to the pled of a desperate person, always trust the lord for you don't know the plan he has in store you.

Well done Theresa A. Campbell 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. This book deserve more than five stars ⭐ ⭐ ⭐️⭐️⭐️!!

Whew, the scheming! But Good God

An emotional roller coaster ride as the intense trauma and plotting trickery unfolds throughout. Victory prevails, in the love wins, and seemingly unending wounds are healed. This book is full of depth, so many things to talk about.

This book was a decent book to read. I would put in a category of Christian fiction: It quick and has a lot of interesting twist and turns. As I began to finish up reading, I caught on to the pilot however some twists in the story had me like oh really. I would read it again (good summer read)💯

Pain, Deception, Greed, and Faith, words that resonated through the pages of “Marked at Birth.”

This was a surprisingly good read for me. I honestly did not know what to expect. The story starts with the ‘beating’ of Isabella Pigmore (Bella) by her father, beaten to unconsciousness. Such pain discouraged me from reading, as I was not interested in reading an entire story on “abuse”, nonetheless I kept at it.

Just as Bella thought her life was getting better, the deception crept in. Deceived by two (2) persons, who came into her life, whom she trusted dearly, masquerading as individuals they were not, causing Bella to give up something so dear and precious to her. Her baby!

The greed was unparallel, which of course led to death. Greed is a powerful tool, and this story exemplifies what greed can do to an individual, it they allow it to consume them.

I particularly love seeing faith expressed throughout this story, in the lives of various characters. Bella may not have expressed the same from inception, because of all she has been through, however, this is a true testament to growing faith in one’s life; and not just simply having faith but having faith in God.

An excellent ending, and, so glad that I stuck with it. Bella’s life came full circle, and to see her exude such happiness was most certainly worth the read.

I most certainly recommend this book. It challenges you to question how you trust after going through deception and hurt by individuals in your life who are to protect and guide you.

My favorite quote from this book:
“Encouragement goes a long way. It changes lives.”
