Eine wunderbar ruhige und unaufgeregte Geschichte über Liebe und Familie. Die Geschichte bietet zwar auch alles andere als Harmonie pur, aber irgendwie hatte ich dennoch ein Wohlgefühl beim Lesen :)
Es geht um Emily und Ryan, die sich auf Anhieb sympathisch finden, aber es steht etwas zwischen ihnen... Emilys Schwester Lilly ist mit Ryans Vater zusammen, und die beiden trennen gut 30 Jahre. Das sorgt für Aufregung in beiden Familien...
Eine mal etwas andere Liebesgeschichte mit einem schönen Setting und sympathischen Charakteren. Hat Spaß gemacht.

My Kind of You is the first book I've read by Tracy Brogan and, with a writing style which was easy to get along with and a cast of quirky, funny characters, she's an author I'll be checking out again.

I love an enemies-to-lovers story and this is one which doesn't bring too much drama. Divorcee and single mum, Emily Callaghan is returning home to help her Gran renovate a rental property and repay her 10k loan when, whilst stranded at the airport, she meets developer, Ryan Taggert, also on his way to the island to find out what his wayward dad is playing at. And they have a lovely rapport from the start with little nudges from Emily's fantastic 12-year old daughter, Chloe.
Whilst enjoyable, my slightly lower rating is for two reasons: I felt it was a little slow building in the romance department, and whilst Emily and Ryan were endearing, at the same time I was a wee bit irritated by some of their actions--I actually preferred the secondary characters who bolstered the story up by providing some great humour.
"Private fireworks are far superior to public fireworks."
Overall My Kind of You is an easy, engaging read in a beautiful setting which has set things up nicely for more the Trillium Bay series, which I look forward to reading.

Twelve years ago, Emily left Wenniway Island. She ran off with her summer romance, and burned all her bridges on the Island. Now divorced and with a twelve year old daughter she finds herself flat broke and back on the island. Her grandmother has offered her a lifeline, a job renovating one of her cottages and turning it into high end tourist accomodation.
Ryan is a project developer who finds himself on Wenniway Island when his recently widowered father takes up with a woman. A woman he is convinced is a gold-digger. When he meets Emily there is an immediate attraction but his home is Sacramento and her home is San Antonio. And as they get to know each other the complications just keep piling up.
Contemporary Romance is very much a safe place for me. But in the sub-genre that is CR there is both good and bad. Tracy Brogan is well and truly in the good camp. Her stories are about family, relationships, love and home. She always delivers exactly what I want from CR.

ARC Review
I began reading Tracy Brogan's MY KIND OF YOU last night around 10 pm. At 2:30 am, I was still awake reading and laughing so loud and hard I was sure I was going to wake up the people in the condo next door. I finally called it quits when I fell asleep while reading and my Kindle fell on my face and split my lip. That's the only reason! I went right back to reading as soon as I woke up today and finished it with a smile and a satisfied sigh. This funny, heartwarming, can't-put-it-down story is just what you need to brighten your day...as long as you don't fall asleep holding a Kindle. ;-)

I needed something light and romantic and this was perfect. It was also funny and I needed a laugh. I love a good rom-com that's actually funny, and Tracy Brogan's book are.
I enjoyed getting to know these characters and the tiny island town of Trillium Bay. I enjoyed reading the parts where Ryan and Emily try to bust up his father's relationship, for reasons I won't reveal here because of spoilers. I was a tad disappointed that they didn't keep up this ploy for longer, because it could have led to many more hilarious scenarios. That being said, there was still plenty to make me laugh in this book.
I also enjoyed reading how the relationship between Ryan and Emily progressed, as they not only teamed up to try and bust up his father's relationship, but also as they worked on the house project together. Emily's daughter was also pleasant to read about and I think her character was a great addition to the book.
This is the third book I've read by this author and I've liked all three. My favorite is still Crazy Little Thing.

This is a pretty standard fare small town romance. Emily has returned to her quaint little home town on a small little island. This town is so quaint that it doesn't allow motor vehicles, so it's a bit of an oddity in our speedy world. Emily left town in a bit of a scandal, choosing to run away with an out-of-towner suddenly instead of sticking around to marry her high school boyfriend and stay in the community. As far as scandals go, this is pretty weak, but I guess in the world of this story it is enough of a big deal that it even leads to a falling out between Emily and her father. But, anyway, Emily is back to help her grandmother renovate an old house, and it comes at an opportune time for her since she has just broken up with a long-term boyfriend who is now sleeping with her cousin, and losing some money after a disastrous house flipping project. We are supposed to feel like Emily is a mess in some ways, but her "problems" are so minor to me that I had a hard time feeling like she was ever all that bad off.
Ryan is not from the island, but he has shown up to try and stop his father from getting involved with a woman who is at least half his age Ryan and his brother are convinced that this woman is out to scam their father out of his money, and Ryan is going to do what he has to do to make sure that this doesn't happen. Well, it turns out that this younger woman is Emily's sister, and Emily is not so keen on her sister dating an older man either, so the two of them decide to try and sabotage things and break the couple up. As far as plots go, this doesn't go far. The moments meant to be humorous aren't. The drama and danger of the relationship is never written with enough depth to ever make Ryan and Emily's partnership here seem to matter at all. For two people trying to break up a couple, they really don't put much heart or effort into things. It's a wasted plot point, in my opinion.
As for Ryan and Emily's relationship ... well, it was pretty vanilla. It was obvious that they got along nicely. It was nice to see them make things work. But, I don't know ... it just seemed there. Just there. There was no tension. No deeper uncovering of characters to show how they were drawing closer to one another. There was a slight mention of the trouble of making a relationship work due to their living in two different cities, but that issue was basically dropped. There was a potential conflict of interest that could have been interesting, but even that was resolved super fast without it becoming a deeper part of the story. They just floated along together.
But here's the thing ... if you are looking for great depth or epic relationships this is not going to be the book for you. But there’s a reason that these small town romances are so popular. They fit a need that some readers have for a return to a simpler life where everyone knows their neighbors, even if that means that they are in each other's business all the time. They like the idea of these small little towns where Wal-marts are non-existent and every small business manages to thrive. They like uncomplicated romantic relationships where two people are just good friends who turn into lovers. And if you are a reader who is looking for that sort of story, this is the one for you. There is a sweetness to it that manages to overcome a lack of depth in characters or plot.
Amy McFadden's narration is lovely, as always. She adds a light to this story. I'll give it three stars. I liked it, and if I'm more in the mood for this sort of story I could see myself giving it four.

Best narration EVER.. You gotta listen to this book. BUT don’t listen to it unless you have a good sense of humor.
What can I say about this book? Other than I absolutely loved it. Why? Because of Amy McFadden. She was just phenomenal. So many characters she was able to do and so many emotions. This was the best narration I’ve ever heard. You can’t go wrong with a book that’s free with KU and $1.99 through Audible.
It was a story about a 59 year old man having an affair with a 26 year old woman and the problems the son of the man and the sister of the girl have trying to break them up, all the while falling in love with each other. And the man, Tag, and the girl, Lilly, you couldn’t help like them both with their May/December relationship. And while Ryan and Emily tried to break the couple up there were times, many times, I had to stop to wipe the tears from my eyes from laughing so hard.
This story was warm and loving and caring and there was always the grief that came from trying to make up for your past mistakes.
And the characters in this book were great, especially Chloe, the 12 year old daughter of Emily you couldn’t help but love. She wasn’t a snot-nosed little witch that you hated. She didn’t pout or whine or cry. She was just a cool kid. And the others: Gigi, the grandmother, was an awesome old woman. Brooke, Emily’s sister, was stuffy but sweet. But the best of all was Mrs. Meisterburger. She was the funniest book character I’ve ever read about.
There was desire throughout this book, which I love, but the sex was all fade-to-black, which is OK by me as long as there is desire and sexual tension. The F-bomb was used about 11 or 12 times.
I couldn’t complain about one thing being wrong with this book, unless it was that I hated to see it end. However, I don’t think you’ll enjoy it near as much just reading it as you would listening to it.
The relationship between Ryan and Emily is left at HFN but the May/December one has no solution whatsoever. Tag and Lilly just stopped being mentioned so I'm assuming they'll show up in the next book.
As to the narration: Awesome, phenomenal, wonderful, emotional, funny, etc, etc.

This book reminds me so much of That Second Chance. Old small town community who make their business to knows everyone business. Do I like it? Nope. I think the story is too much of characters and not much characters development. The romance is also dim in the background. What I can not really stand is the dragging.
I mean yes i know that is shocking a 59 years old dating 26 years old especially in a small town. But does it have to be the highlight of the entire book? It bored me to tears. I listen to the audio book until 75% then I have to give up.

A laugh a minute!
This book was addicting and I couldn't stop laughing during some parts. Perfect romance with little angst.
I just have to mention the horseback riding scene had me in stitches!

This was such a funny book. As you know I love family sagas. This one did not disappoint at all. The standout character would have to be Chloe. She was a hoot.
This story was about Emily Callaghan and her daughter Chloe going home to a small island in Michigan for the summer. Emily has been a single mother for the last 7 years officially but since day one unofficially.
She has had basically no family support of her choosing because her father (Chief of Police) did not make it easy to reach out and ask for help. All because being young and impulsive. She ran off with a non-islander and got married. At the time, she thought she was in love. About the time, she realized she made a mistake it was about the time she was pregnant. Not really ideal.
She would never regret her marriage ever for just that reason. When a risky business deal fails beyond bad she asks Gigi (her grandmother) to help her out (not a handout). To pay her back she agrees that on top of paying her back when the house finally flips that she will remodel her rental cottage.
On the last stop over they meet Ryan Taggert. They can’t make the last thirty-minute flight due to engine trouble. They share a taxi to the actual nearest town. In route, they find out Ryan’s on his way to the island to save his father from marrying a money hungry bimbo. Who was putting his claws into his millionaire father?
Well, let me just say there is a lot more than her claws sinkin’ in, on and around his father that is for sure. There is a lot of things going on in and on that small town too. But the best part is Chloe is making new friends and is accepted for who she is and Emily has a work crew with personality and quirks but a lot of heart. Most of all there’s laughter. Loved....loved....loved this book! I was reading it and couldn't stop laughing out loud. Finally my husband asked me what was so funny and as I was reading him a scene about horse back riding he started to lose it too! I love when a book makes me feel so happy!!!!!

My Kind of You by Tracy Brogan is a highly entertaining contemporary romance with a great island setting. It is the hilarious story of house flipper Emily Callaghan and land developer Ryan Taggert.
First, I want to share about the idyllic locale. Michigan’s MacKinac Island served as Tracy’s inspiration for this story’s fictional Wenniway Island. In Tracy’s words: “Trillium Bay is located on Wenniway Island, a place so small that cars have been banned and everyone gets around by horse, bike, or on foot. Most of the 600 year-round inhabitants are from families who’ve lived on the island since the 1700’s. Naturally this gives the town a very distinct and unique personality. Everyone knows everyone’s business and secrets are a luxury. Tourism is their main source of income and during the summer there are as many as 15,000 visitors in one day. They’re called “fudgies” because they come for the famous Wenniway Island fudge.” Seriously, I could smell the fudge while I was listening to this book and I want to spend my summer there too!
As the story opens, we meet single mother Emily and Chloe, her daughter, as they are traveling to Wenniway Island, Emily’s hometown. It’s not a happy time for Emily. She is flat-out broke because a project of hers took a dive. She is also uncertain of her welcome once they arrive. Their chemistry flared from the beginning and the sparks only got stronger as they spent more time together. But, there were obstacles to any lasting relationship for them. Would they be able to overcome them to have a chance at a future together?
I had literally loads of favorite scenes but will only mention three…
There’s a segment where Ryan and Emily go horseback riding with grandiose plans to sabotage his father’s romance relationship. OMG. I know people around me on the bridge thought I’d lost my mind. The scene includes a laugh-out-loud discourse on farting and, in addition, readers are treated to a vivid sexy image of Ryan coming out of a lake with water droplets accentuating his muscles. I can still conjure the picture even though I listened to this a couple of months ago. Needless to say, their plans backfired stupendously.
I will never forget when they first the visited the lighthouse….
AND I actually teared up with the story about the fireflies…
There were many wonderful supporting characters. Emily’s grandmother was a hoot. I choked laughing when she admitted to being “good at burying men.” Chloe, Emily’s twelve-year-old precocious daughter, was a standout too. She liked Ryan from the moment they met and her matchmaking skills were on full display herein. In addition, there were the quirky characters who made up Emily’s work crew and Dmitri Krushnic, the man who is never without his beekeeping hat even when he’s nowhere near his bees.

Amy McFadden is the narrator for My Kind of You. Her voice is crystal clear and easy to understand. She exuded the proper emotions and differentiated between the characters to where I had no issue discerning who was speaking at any one time. That said, I didn’t care for Amy’s male voices - only because they sounded too female to me; I got used to her interpretation as the story progressed. Other than that, she did a great job and I look forward to hearing her again. I might even pick up this book to listen to again sometime.
I can’t wait for the next installment which will be Brooke’s story. She’s the eldest Callaghan sister and was running for mayor in this book. It seems that she will win her election, but holding public office is not what she expected. In addition, in her book, there will be a jewel theft and a funeral for a guy who died ten years ago. The third book will feature Tag’s and Lily’s May/December romance. I’m pulling for them! Whatever ensues, Tracy has promised more secrets, more reveals and more fun!
My Kind of You is a sweet romance with some heat and oodles of comical overtones. It’s also a family saga that emphasizes forgiving and reconciling. I listened to the last fifteen minutes of this audio at home in my garage because I just had to hear the ending before exiting my car. The ending was a complete surprise, until the very last. I highly recommend My Kind of You to anyone who enjoys small-town yummy contemporary romances with plenty of humor and a family focus.

My Kind of You by Tracy Brogan is a highly entertaining contemporary romance with a great island setting. It is the hilarious story of house flipper Emily Callaghan and land developer Ryan Taggert.
First, I want to share about the idyllic locale. Michigan’s MacKinac Island served as Tracy’s inspiration for this story’s fictional Wenniway Island. In Tracy’s words: “Trillium Bay is located on Wenniway Island, a place so small that cars have been banned and everyone gets around by horse, bike, or on foot. Most of the 600 year-round inhabitants are from families who’ve lived on the island since the 1700’s. Naturally this gives the town a very distinct and unique personality. Everyone knows everyone’s business and secrets are a luxury. Tourism is their main source of income and during the summer there are as many as 15,000 visitors in one day. They’re called “fudgies” because they come for the famous Wenniway Island fudge.” Seriously, I could smell the fudge while I was listening to this book and I want to spend my summer there too!
As the story opens, we meet single mother Emily and Chloe, her daughter, as they are traveling to Wenniway Island, Emily’s hometown. It’s not a happy time for Emily. “Really, are you sure because I was hiking with my Dad and I’m sure I saw one? Either that or it was a humongous man-eating badger, with fangs. It might have been frothing at the mouth.”
“Man-eating, huh? No problem then. I’m a girl.”
Tracy Brogan’s first in the Trillium Bay trilogy about the three Callaghan sisters has a lot in common with a Hallmark romance movie. A really good one. It is set in a picturesque and authentic vacation spot. Because let’s face it, Winnaway island on northern Lake Huron is Mackinac Island on northern Lake Michigan. Horses and bikes and no cars, ferries, fudge, and the view of Mackinac (Petoskey) bridge, etc. Our heroine is a spunky single mother obliged to come home from the big city to the small town she grew up in. She has some family reconciling to do, there’s an eccentric granny and a couple of big secrets that add suspense and tension. There is a big misunderstanding close to the end of the story which threatens the lovers and is tidily cleared up at the last minute. The romance is relatively angst-free with them professing their love without mentioning marriage, and everyone’s super nice. There’s even a festival!
I enjoyed it. It was lighthearted, fun, and well-written without digging too deep emotionally speaking. It was amusing with a downright funny horseback riding scene, among others. Emily’s inner dialogue was cute as well as her descriptions of the local eccentrics. I’m not sure how much the narrator contributed to my enjoyment but Amy McFadden was fantastic and including her authentic Michigan accents. She added to the humor for sure with her delivery and made Emily and Ryan very likable and relatable. Almost 4 stars.

For most of this book, I was waiting for something to happen, but nothing really does.
Emily and Ryan’s relationship never really develops as they don’t really get to know each other or spend time together. There are some short scenes where they might be doing something together, but they don’t really talk. It was said that Ryan often came to see Emily at the cottage she was renovating, but you don’t really see those interactions, which made them seem not real.
There were some side characters, but it was very clear that they were only ever mentioned to move the story along. The only side characters who were mentioned more often were Lilly and Tag and I really didn’t care about them, so I found the constant talk and drama surrounding them to be annoying. Also, I didn’t like how Ryan treated Mrs O’Malley because he took advantage of her. I know that it was supposed to be funny, and some of it was, but I was put off by the fact that he deceived her. Emily’s father was talked about a lot but when he’s finally shown in a scene, he doesn’t fit the description that has been repeated throughout the whole book.
I didn’t like this book; none of the events are shown in detail (such as the Lilac festival), the characters weren’t developed, and neither were the relationships. I’m definitely not going to continue with this series, and I don’t think I’m going to want to try any other books by this author.

I picked this up at a local independent bookstore where I always peek at local authors and interests. I bought it strictly because it was loosely based location wise on the island where I got this book that is right near us. It is the first in a series and based off of Mackinac Island in Michigan. I was honestly just curious about the representation of the island since we frequent it often. Unfortunately it wasn’t a huge hit for me and it included quite a few errors. I felt like the conversations of and with the preteen/teen daughter were a little forced and juvenile. They didn’t necessarily feel realistic to me and felt awkward. Not awkward as in an endearing character trait, but awkward as in didn’t fit in the book well. It felt a bit disjointed. I was hoping to have more of an attachment to the characters and the premise sounded amazing to me. It was a quick easy read and I’m glad I got to experience the setting and location.

This was a fun story and I look forward to reading more about Tiny, Gigi, the bat crazy library lady and the guy that always wears a bee keeper's hat with the net down.

This book was ok. The writing was fine and the characters were likeable. My problems were that the plot was far too predictable and the descriptions of Emily's romantic intentions were too long and drawn out.

I love all of Tracy Brogan's cheesy romance books. But this one was slow. Took too long for me to care about the characters. And one I did, it was over.

this is not my 1st read by Tracy ... but I truly think her style is so fun .. her ability to swap to another kind of story ... i loved the airport scene... i love all these characters ... their quirky personalities are just too too much ... I love anything Michigan ....so this was a such a pleasure to read. I love the cover. this was in my 4th Romance Reveal Book Box ...such a fan. A great summer read ... I guess summer is coming to a close for some many but maybe by reading this book it can hold on to it for a bit for ya??!
I think quotes from a book really give ya an idea of what or how the author does write see this visual "Emily peered at him at little more closely, suddenly wondering if perhaps his old soul had wandered off to that big airport lobby in the sky." Here is the old guys I would think 80s at least in a John Deere hat ... so my grandfather, just resting wait for the time he can get home to his bride for dinner ... so precious!!
Is "manspreading" a thing? I gotta google that? Is that??! Google says: "the practice whereby a man, especially one traveling on public transportation, adopts a sitting position with his legs wide apart, in such a way as to encroach on an adjacent seat or seats." ... Do women never do this? I guess we are all prim and proper? This gives ya a great visual. MEN!!
Here is another funny quote from the airport scene ... DID I MENTION I LOVE THAT SCENE SO MUCH??! "She's buying airplane parts at Walmart?" Can't you buy all things at Walmart? This is a real gem of a book - I definitely recommend it to you in all circumstances except one ... if you have had surgery and it will hurt to laugh, because truly some of the things you read will have you in fits of giggles.
When we speak of genres we never mention the "island off the coast of" romance - and yet there are some truly superb examples - and this is clearly going to be a winning series in the game. There is a huge advantage of course on an island, as the characters are, to say the least, curious, quaint and hidden treasures. Ms Brogan has had great fun creating a whole host of entertaining islanders for our delectation. She threw in a few rather fabulous ones too - and then stirred the pot with two men from outside, who are getting involved in things that may burn their fingers.
What with family feuds, issues of ageism, and two people in particular who have chemistry in bucket loads, this is a refreshingly funny and passion-filled read. There are some scenes which will have me chuckling for weeks, possibly years to come, and I cannot wait to see where the Trillium Bay series leads us next.

Predictable with complicated family, going home after years, divorce, single motherhood, love story (sometimes over the top in my opinion), Island living, flipping houses. It was a cute read but a little too coincidental with everything especially Emily meeting a man (Ryan) in the airport to go to the Island, and lo and behold, he's there to visit his father who happens to be 59 years old who she finds out is dating her 26 year old sister, and the same age as her father, the Chief of Police on Island who she hasn't spoken to in years. I loved Chloe who was Emily’s daughter. She was smarter than some of these adults, especially for a 12 year old.
Though this was a pretty good first book in the trilogy, not sure if I want to read about her other sisters Brooke and Lilly.

Cute start to a new series...
This is a cute and sweet start to a new series. An story set on a charming lakeside town, with a host of quirky characters., makes it an easy albeit predictable book. My complaint is that it felt very rushed towards the end, and we didn't get any resolution to a couple of issues. The ending is HFN at best, I would have liked a little more time with the main couple as an actual couple, they come together officially at the very end, and we don't get to read about anything beyond that, which was disappointing. I'm thinking the author's intention was to leave everything set for the next book, but it felt like I didn't get a proper ending in this one (it wasn't a cliffy though). There was no mention of what happened with Lilly and Tag, which was one of the central storylines, so that was up in the air.

After reading 7/8 horrible books in a row, I thought I was never gonna find an interesting book ever again! My Kind of You was a breath of fresh air!!! I loved it! I just totally fell in love with the plot and the characters! And my God, Chloe is just so adorable!!! The reason it didn't get a 5 star rating was cz I found the ending a bit lacking,,
but but but ...
I still loved loved loved the book! I can't wait for the second or third or I dunno how many books this series is gonna have!
I want Bryce and Jack's stories too! and maybe a separate book for Tag and Lilly!

A nice, fun, an easy read. A perfect book when you don't want to think too much about plots and storylines. With that being said, a plausible and believable storyline with interesting characters. Yes, you will guess the ending, but who doesn't in romance books?. I will read the next one in the series!

This was the first book I read from this author and I will be reading more. There were several parts of this book that had me laughing out loud. I love the setting of this book, it is based on Mackinac Island which is my favorite place. The characters were fun and relatable. The storyline was great. I cannot wait to read more.
