Daniel Palmer is an orphan adjusting to his new life; a new home, new school, and a gift that has drawn the attention of a powerful entity. Ben Johnson’s family is falling apart, his company weeks from ruin, and a dangerous business partner might want him dead. One can peer through the veil of human perception and discern the force manipulating events in Pine Creek, the other is blinded by his past. As their lives collide, the conflict between Good and Evil intensifies, leaving a path of carnage that threatens to destroy them and those they love. Before it is finished, both will learn that some choices have eternal consequences, especially when Darkness Watches.
I'm a storyteller working at the crossroads of psychological horror, Southern Gothic, and dark folklore, where every story begins on the page and sometimes escapes into sound. My fiction explores obsession, guilt, rumor, and the quiet violence people do to one another — often set in small towns where secrets rot slowly and everyone swears they’re innocent. My short stories and poems lean into choice vs. consequence, moral collapse, and the thin line between the spiritual world on this one. Under the name Wordslinger, those same stories (and more) are reimagined as music. Each track is a narrative — a short story set to brooding hip-hop, hard rock, or eerie atmospheric beats. The writing, structure, and direction are mine; the voices — human or synthetic are part of the cast.
I've not read this author and don't normally read this genre, but I'm so glad I did! I gave 4 stars because there were several times I was confused, but still the story was awesome! I enjoyed the characters and had a hard time putting this book down! Will definitely look into other books by this author!
This book was so enjoyable. I couldn't put it down. Beautiful story about faith, steadfastness, and trusting in God. Makes you give glory to the "Author" (as mentioned in the book), Jesus Christ. I recommend this book.
I love it. It's interesting how the author describes devi's hatred for humanity. Also agree how the enemy, the darkness or the devil has the power over those humans who are evil incline, weak of spirit and have the lack of a relationship with God. It also made me wonder how many of all those evangelist in the religious networks or radio are the real deal or false teachers. Anyway this book is just as good and not as scary as Frank Peretti's The Visitation and This Present Darkness and its sequel Piercing the Darkness.
Love this type of book. Supernatural, but based on the real battle happening every day. Would have liked to get to know Daniel a bit more! Will definitely read further books by Jason Parrish.
