A Westwick Witches Cozy Paranormal Mystery

Win, lose, or draw…

Cendrine West can’t catch a break. She’s close to landing a new job, and things are getting cozy with sexy sheriff Tyler Gates. All that changes when she is kidnapped by renegade witch Aunt Pearl, who is hell bent on avenging a friend’s untimely death. Its Las Vegas or bust…for all the wrong reasons.

Rocco Racatelli is a hunky Vegas kingpin—and the next mob target. Lady Luck has dealt him a losing hand and he wants revenge. When Aunt Pearl is a little too eager to help, project Vegas Vendetta quickly escalates into an all-out mob turf war. As the witches are thrust into Sin City’s seamy underworld, bodies pile up and secrets are exposed.

It’s not just the Las Vegas heat that’s scorching...Rocco is intent on winning Cen’s heart. But she only wants the man she left behind in Westwick Corners. All she has to do is solve a murder, out-magic her ornery aunt, and take down the Las Vegas mafia. What could possibly go wrong?

When organized crime meets unorganized magic, anything can happen! As the body count climbs, it’s clear that Cen needs more than a miracle in the desert to set things right.

"...a bewitching, supernatural treat. If you love witch cozy mysteries you'll love Cendrine West and her wacky family!"

Rags to Witches: A Westwick Witches Cozy Mystery
By: Colleen Cross
Narrated by: Petrea Burchard
This is an audible book and the review is voluntary.
I love this cozy witch series. It is a fun mystery with twists and silly situations. It is a family of witches except the main gal isn't very good at spells. This lack of magic ability gets her in to trouble. But the magic ability of her Aunt gets her into a lot of trouble! Her Aunt drives me crazy but it makes for fun stories.
The narrator is awesome and keeps the voices straight and despite having a pretty voice is able to make a gruff voice for men. Great performance.

Rags to Witches
Westwick Witches, Book 2

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: Hoopla via HPCL
Dates Read: 5/1/23 - 5/2/23
Stars: 3
Narrator(s): Petrea Burchard

The Characters:

Cendrine West:
Aunt Pearl:
The Sheriff (Tyler?), Rocco Racatelli, Cendrine’s Mom Ruby

The Story:

I know I should not start a review with a negative but OMG I dislike Aunt Pearl so much. Like enough to stop reading the series. I can’t take her lies and manipulative ways, I do like the way Cendrine and Tyler(?)’s relationship is unfolding. The realizations at the end of the book felt special and if I do continue the series it will be because of this relationship alone.

4/5 stars for this Witchy Cozy Mystery!

I received this book in exchange for honest review.

I enjoyed this book even more than book 1! Also, can I just say how much better the audible cover is than the kindle version? lol Major upgrade! Crazy Aunt Pearl makes this series! I loved this storyline and the characters are just as fun! Where will they go for book 3? Narration is great! Highly recommend this series if you enjoy cozy mysteries :)

I listened to this on audiobook.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't usually read Cozy mysteries, however this four part book series appealed to me because of the Witches and magic contained within said stories. So because of that I decided to give the first book "Witch You Well" a go and I'm very glad that I did. So it was a no brained to continue on with the series.

So book 2 Rags to Witches was even more fun than book 1. It was full on entertaining again with all sorts going on, but this time the story was set in Las Vegas and we all know what they say about that place lol. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. I thoroughly enjoyed being reacquainted with the characters of Cen, Pearl and Ruby. It was also great to see the return of the Sheriff whom I didn’t think would be featured much in this story with it being based in Vegas, so glad I was wrong on that count. The character of Pearl always makes me roll my eyes at times, some of the things she comes out with and gets up to, she really is quite a handful. So it's all happening in this story and definitely never a dull moment from start to finish. Plus a couple of the scenes did make me giggle.

So all in all, I very much enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to continuing the series with book 3.

Vegas, the Mob and death

A solid read but unfortunately not as good as the first. Cen is really just too easily overpowered by her aunt. Where is her backbone? The death of an old friend throws everyone into the path of the Mob. Then with the second body things are thrown into further turmoil. A really convoluted plot that lost a lot through being too twisted. Shame.

What happens in Vegas - stays in Vegas BABY!

I listened to this narrated by the fabulous Petrea Burchard right after listening to Book 1. I really enjoyed Book 1 and gave it 4 stars but this one gets 5. I loved it even more. I think the character of Aunt Pearl and the antics she gets up to were responsible for the extra star!

I know a lot of people discuss plots in reviews. I don't like to do that because I've had lots of stories spoiled for me by reading a review which gave something away.

This is just such a great romp. A well-written, easy to listen to and sometimes funny witchy mystery. I particularly loved the ending with sexy sheriff Tyler Gates! can't wait to start Book 3!

Weer een heerlijk boek om lekker weg te lezen. Af en toe een beetje warrig met alle verschillende dingen die er gebeuren en alle twisten, maar uiteindelijk komt alles bij elkaar.

I love a cozy mystery but I didn't like any of these characters and didn't like the path of the story. Finished it because I hoped it would get better.

I'm of two minds with this book. I'm very irritated with Aunt Pearl's constant harping to Cen about not doing magic and refusing to help her; I'm getting irritated with the author's constant repeating of the same thing over and over again - Cen doesn't want to do magic, Pearl insists she does magic or she won't help; constant repeating of the plot highlights of the book.

This book really doesn't seem to have a point. Pearl kidnaps Cen and takes her to Las Vegas, refusing to say why until they got there, then telling her she wants Cen to solve the mystery of her friend's death. Cen just wants to get home. Combine that with a pimply faced teenager who race cars an RV to Vegas because Pearl 'hires' him, and an attraction spell Pearl puts on Cen and Rocco, the grandson of Pearl's friend. There doesn't seem to be an real investigation of the death, just this ongoing fight about magic between Pearl and Cen.

Dumb

It was a free book, but still, this was really dumb. There was little to no plot, no backstory. You didn’t care about the characters and the scenes were repetitive. Don’t waste two minutes reading this book.

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:
story - ***, narration - *****, overall - ****

This is one of those audiobooks which are difficult for me to rate; on the one hand, the narration is wonderful, on the other, the plot is just OK - likeable but...

Well, I can't really explain what the "but" is about. Is it that the book generally just didn't grasp my attention to the extent of me forgetting the world around and focusing totally on the plot...? Or is it that the main character seemed a little bland, without that sparkle of character that would make her attractive to me as a listener...? Or maybe it's just that some scenes seemed to jump almost out of the blue and felt like being there for the sake of (unnecessarily) complicating the plot...?

It's not that the plot is uninteresting - because it is, with the mafia involved and a murder to be solved, and aunt Pearl with her belief that the use of magic is a wonderful solution for everything (by the way, the character of aunt Pearl is one of the funniest I've met in cozy mysteries so far)... There are also several good twists in the story, as we might expect from a crime plot; still, somehow it all didn't work for me so well this time. I found myself rewinding a chapter now and then to listen again as I seemed to lose focus more than once. So even though I truly liked the book altogether, as it was a really relaxing, pleasurable listen, I can't give it more than three stars for the story.

The narration, however, is wonderful. It's my first by Ms Burchard and it was a fantastic experience. I especially loved the voice of aunt Pearl - I just saw her, a 70-year-old witch who wants everyone to dance to her tune:) It was a flawless performance from Ms Burchard. The other characters' voices were equally good, and the narration had a perfect pace. Ms Burchard is definitely a narrator I'll come back to.

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.

This is the second book in the Westwick Witches series. It is a standalone story with no cliffhanger ending. There are some references to events and characters from the first book but the author graciously provides a recap. However, to really get a feel for this madcap family - start with the first book.

Here, Cen has a job interview and a date with the Sheriff - but Aunt Pearl has other plans for Cen [and her mother] as she kidnaps them in a "borrowed" RV, claims to have won the lottery and takes everyone to Las Vegas. But that's not all, Aunt Pearl's friend - with mob attachments - has died under suspicious circumstances but no one is investigating, Cen is now mysteriously attracted to the friend's grandson and the deceased's friend's husband has disappeared. And Cen is in the middle of it all trying to get back home and keep her family out of the crossfire.

This series is such a hoot! Aunt Pearl just can't help herself with all her misdirections, misleading statements and spells are wreaking havoc - she is my favorite character in this series. Then - the funeral scene where Cen has to take Aunt Pearl's place as a pallbearer was shockingly funny. It's just one crazy thing after another with Aunt Pearl - and lots of fun. So grab yourself your favorite beverage and sit back to enjoy the ride.

I listened to this book - the narrator is great, as always. She does different character voices and clearly is having just as much narrating this book as you will have listening to it.

Rags to Witches is the 2nd book in the Westwick Witches series by Colleen Cross. This is a cozy mystery featuring Witches, Murder, The Mafia and more. The story moves along at a good pace with lots of twists and turns. Petrea Burchard narrates this audiobook. She is great with her different voices, Aunt Pearls voice is awesome. There is no harsh language or sex, but there is some mild violence, after all it is a murder mystery.

Cendrine West has a job interview and a date with the sexy Sheriff Tyler Gates. But Aunt Pearl has other ideas for her. Aunt Pearl kidnaps her for a road trip to Las Vegas. An old family friend has passed away and also unbeknownst to Cendrine it was under questionable circumstances.

When they arrive in Las Vegas they are thrown into a Mafia turf War. It's up to the Witches to find the murder as the body count rises. Hopefully their bodies doesn't add to the count in the mean time.

I got this as an audiobook from the library. Well, I was frustrated with Cen. I don't know why she feels she is an outsider just because she is a witch. If I have the power, you bet I would magic my gas and save my money! I wouldn't avoid to learn about magic, it runs in the family, it is what makes a person special.

Then there is Aunt Pearl. Cen knows aunt Pearl cannot be trusted so why did she gets on the mobile home? its obvious she agrees with aunt Pearl just didn't realize it.

The end though, is what saved the book. it turns out his mother is a witch. hmmm. so wouldn't that make him a witch too!

this audio book is lazy i have to keep on jumping forward in order to keep the book going. so annoying. you think audiobooks won't have mechanical problems because it is digital, think again!

Audiobook review: Oh my! Cen and the gang are back in an adventurous trip to Vegas to attend a funeral of a long time friend/ mob boss. This story is like a maze with many twists and turns. If I had an Aunt Pearl like Cen’s, I’d probably leave the continent to get away from her shenanigans, half truths, and miss directions. Though Pearl’s heart is in the right place, the way she goes about accomplishing the task would leave me shaking her and consider cutting family ties. The story has an unexpected twist at the end that’ll leave a smile on your face. This book can be a standalone but I’d recommend starting with the first book. Oh, Cendrine! Embrace your Inner Witch! Taking off on a cross-country romp with her mother and aunt to Las Vegas in a "borrowed" RV, Cen encounters gangsters and gamblers and a high school jerk who's become a handsome hunk. Or has he? Practice your magic, Cen!

This is the second in the Westwick Witches series and I had the pleasure of listening to narrator Petrea Burchard [AUDIO] again lovingly voice the characters as they attempted to unravel the murder mystery. It all comes together nicely in the end--very nicely--but you are not going to get ahead of the cast in following clues, especially with several surprise twists skillfully inserted.

This book was a lot of fun to read. Twistier that a pretzel this story kept me guessing, many of the characters are keeping secrets that come together to create a mystery that is not obvious.

The characters are really easy to like (or dislike depending on their nature), the settings are vividly described and easy to mentally picture. A fun way to spend and evening.

The narration is well done, the delivery is smooth and natural and the character voices are clear and recognizable.

I just cant. I hate everything about it. Its like there is zero charakter growth since book 1 page 1. And the one person I liked, aunt Pearl. Has transformed from a exentric sweet lady who causes trouble becous of her "i do before I think" way of life. To a; I lie, do not respect my family and just do what I feel like, and you will help and accept me, becous i say so. And she is using magic on her niece and het niece her mom, just to get what she wants. While being everything but acceptant of the mc her own life choices. Be it a partner, job or anything els in her life.
I cant do this to myself any more. Guess there will be 3 new open spots in my bookcase.

If you like your mysteries full of laughs, twists, and characters who really are, you'll love this one as much as I do! Without going all spoiler, there's the 18 hour drive to Vegas with a lunatic driving a large RV, the crazy Aunt Pearl who is a witch without filters, Cen dropping the casket at a mob funeral. Recapping the plot wouldn't really be capable of doing justice to the humor or the truly imaginative plot twists, besides, you wouldn't believe me anyway.
I was lucky enough to receive a free audio copy in a giveaway and think that Petrea Burchard is marvelous as narrator.

Another light-hearted murder mystery staring the Westwick Witches.
Aunt Pearl kidnaps Cen and her mother and drags them off to Vegas to spend the lottery money she just won and to solve the murder of her old friend who ... oh by the way, just happens to be part of one of the biggest mob families in the nation.
The story twists and turns, keeping the reader guessing right until the very end but the biggest surprise comes at the very end of the story ... and it has nothing to do with the mob or the murder.
Thoroughly entertaining and well worth the relatively short reading time.

OMG I love these Westwick Witches cozies! This is my second, and I hope there's like a zillion more!
Witches, mobs, and Vegas... now if that doesn't sound like fun, I don't know what does!
Cendrine gets kidnapped by her crazy Aunt and they head for Vegas. It's bound to be an adventure!

Grab a glass of wine, sit by the fire, and LISTEN. It's so fun!
Great story, quirky and fun, great narration, all in all a VERY enjoyable listen :)

Give it a try! :)

Is it bad that I want to be aunt Perl when I grow older?
Witches in Vegas. As I dive more into this series I fall more and more in love with the characters. The steady down to earth mother, the outrageous aunt Perl, the young insecure witch main character and all of the others. Nothing is what it seems in these cozy mysteries and I don’t want to change a thing.
The narrator are great as always and really good at changing her voice.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I liked this even more than I did the first book in Colleen Cross's series, Witch You Well. The characters are wonderfully consistent with the way they're depicted in book 1 in a new setting that adds new colour and intrigue without taking anything away from who each person is and how they think. The struggles and conflicts that the main character, Sendrine, encounters are a constant reminder to the listener that she is human, over and above anything that marks her as being different, and she is all the more relatable for this. At the end of the day I enjoyed this and look forward to Book 3.

A great second instalment of the Westwick Witches. Cendrine is travelling to an interview when Aunt Pearl intervenes and she ends up in Las Vegas attending a funeral. Things quickly go downhill as the funeral turns into a murder investigation and all the suspects are mobsters. Sheriff Tyler Gates comes to the rescue and romance is on the cards for Cendrine but the Sheriff has a shocking secret of his own! I am quickly becoming fond of the Westwick Witches and look forward to the next instalment.

I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first one actually.
It’s made me laugh out loud one moment and the next it’s made me curious and suspicious!
Once again I’m looking forward to listening to the next in the series.
I just love that it’s set in Vegas, like a road trip. It’s made me miss Vegas and want to go back!

The little twists at the end made me gasp! I just loved it and wasn’t expecting it! To be honest I didn’t expect any of the book, I was unsure where it was going.
I’m so glad the reader of the audiobook was the same as the first, she has great voice !

Westwick Witches #2

The second book is this cozy witch mystery series has Cen being kidnapped by Aunt Pearl and taken to Las Vegas. Aunt Pearl has won the lottery and is going there in her 'new' RV. Oh and a friend of the Aunt has died and Cen has to take Aunt Pearl place as a pall bearer in the funeral. Oh and the friends family has gangster ties. What possible could go wrong on this trip?

A great, light, fun read with Aunt Pearl being her secretive self of what is going and causing trouble as she goes.
