Érik Orsenna, pseudonyme d'Erik Arnoult est un romancier français. Après des études de philosophie et de sciences politiques, il a fait des études en Angleterre (London School of Economics). Son pseudonyme Orsenna est le nom de la vieille ville du Rivage des Syrtes, de Julien Gracq.

Érik Orsenna, nom de plume of Erik Arnoult is a French novelist. After studying philosophy and political science, he studied economics at the London School of Economics. His pseudonym Orsenna is the name of the old town of The Opposing Shore by Julien Gracq.

A very erudite diary. Mr Orsenna travelled around the world to learn everything he could about the paper and during this trip on the "Paper Road" wrote a collection of anecdotes, most of them very interesting and instructive, with a touch of humour and a certain witticism. Unfortunately this book has its limits and lacks a real writing plan : it is divided in several chapters, each chapter for a new destination and not really related to the others. I'm sure it's been a lot of fun to write but sometimes not so entertaining for the reader who didn't have the chance to see what the author did.
Don't get me wrong, this is a nice book but I know Mr Orsenna can do better.

Dire que l'on suit la route du papier serait beaucoup dire. L'auteur se promène plutôt à travers le monde à la rencontre de fabricants du papier.
Il manque du liant dans ce livre (un comble...)

E Orsenna est incontestablement un intellectuel fort érudit qui écrit très bien ; aussi prolixe que J Attali mais sur des sujets plus légers. Il est parfois un peu pédant, comme tout intellectuel français. Mon principal reproche est que le livre n’est pas construit, il n’y a aucun plan, péché mortel en France. Ce qu’on a est une suite d’anecdotes qui nous sont livrées de façon parfaitement aléatoire qui permettent à l’auteur de déblatérer sur tout un tas de sujets mais qui n’aboutissent à rien.

original way to look at globalization and its effect on a quasi commodity (now) whereas it was very expensive 5 centuries ago (refer to M Kaku's book on physics where he deals with evolution of prices over time).
