Lucky for this sleeping beauty, her hero has the recipe for True Love!
Briar Rose Jorgenson has always been much more comfortable with her best friend’s family than her own. Her mother and grandmother pull her in opposite directions, demanding her attention to “proper” pursuits… when all she wants to do is bake. Well, that and spend time with Everland’s newest resident, scrumptious Gordon MacKinnon. Now that Gordon has made a home for himself in the quaint western town of Everland, he’s working hard at fulfilling his dream of owning a restaurant. Plagued by memories of a childhood of crime on the streets of Edinburgh and a decade of servitude, Gordon’s determined to create something special for his neighbors in Everland. And he knows just the woman he wants to share in his dream: Briar, the sweet temptress who puts the icing on his cake. But when Briar’s family starts making decisions about her future, Gordon’s dash of despair turns into a heaping spoonful of desperation. It will take an unlikely—almost fairy tale!—solution to make sure that these two have a chance at their succulent Happily Ever After.
The Everland series has a Heat Level of 1/5 (suitable for all audiences)
A cute and quick retelling of Sleeping Beauty. These little romances are a nice way of just mixing things up. It gives a great sense of accomplishment to finish a book so quickly. And the plots are feel-good stories, leaving you satisfied.
This was another clever, witty, funny retelling of a classic fairy-tale.
This retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story was entertaining, heartwarming, and all around wonderful.
Briar Rose falls for a Scottish cook, and because she's a baker, they two are the perfect match. Toss in interfering godmothers (who happen to be named after the Seven Dwarves) a madcap plan to get the hero and heroine together, and you have the makings of a fun read.
Caroline sent this book so that I may read and review it. It's a little late, but here it is. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more fairy-tales from Everland.
Briar and Gordon's story was so sweet. I love that even though they aren't considered the typical "beauties" that heroes and heroines are described as in most fairytales, to each other, they are the most beautiful people because of their love for one another. That's not to say that they are ugly by any means, but everyone finds true beauty in those they love. The fairytale twist was amusing and Doc was a great addition. Briar and Gordon had reactions to the scheme that were real and this further presented them as caring people who could easily be someone a reader knows in real life. I loved the development of their relationship and the sincerity of the story.
This is a fun series, especially if you enjoy the retelling of fairytales. These stories are all linked together so it is helpful to start at the beginning so you can see all the connections as you get to know the characters better. Hope you enjoy this version of Sleeping Beauty.
I love this retelling of Sleeping Beauty! The fairy godmother is hilarious and keeps you guessing. Briar Rose wants her happily ever after but can she get the right guy to come wake her up?
A good book which was fun to read and helped to see how Rapunzel’s friend got her own happily ever after. I am enjoying all of this series and look forward to reading more.
A story about a woman bossed by her grandmother who wanted her to marry a rich person, the guy she fell in love with who was working his fingers to the bone so he could reach his dreams, a confrontation that could risk it all, the plan, and so much more in this enchanting story
4 stars for Briar and Gordon. 1 star (or negative 1000) for the bitch of a grandmother. I really really hate controlling people, it really taints an otherwise cute story for me.
I am really liking this series but there is always something In them that relates it to the actual story. (In this one briar pricked her finger, fell asleep and was woken by true loves kiss)
Gordon MacKinnon- a child thief from Scotland turned servant/friend to a famous blind violinist who's retiring and now married, he wants his own thing in life-his restaurant Briar Rose Jorgenson- mother and grandmother pulls her in opposite direction. Sh's a wonderful baker.
Now I have to say first off, that Caroline Lee has done it again with her Briar Rose story I loved this story like all her other ones in this series but this one really strikes at the heart of what it is like to be controlled by a family.
This is a story that also shows how a servant, Gordon, is no longer needed as much as his employer got married and even though he still helps out and lives in the big house, he is at a loss and has been since the wedding.
Two people who really don’t know each other and both don’t really feel they belong anywhere are suddenly looking at each other at a friends wedding. They have one really good thing in common, or are there more than one thing?
Read this story and you will also fall in love with it and find out what happens. It is so good and the ending is amazing. I think you will be surprised.
If you haven’t read any of the Everland stories you can read them alone but I highly recommend you start with Ella and continue in order to get the background stories of the town of Everland, Wyoming and the towns people. It is a very unique and you will love it.
Caroline Lee has a way of incorporating fairy tales in a brilliant way that is very unique. When I heard about this book, I was skeptical how she was going to incorporate the spinning wheel and have her true love wake her with his kiss. How could this possibly happen like the Disney version I grew up watching? She exceeded my expectations exponentially. Highly recommended to all, especially my fairy tale friends! Her family wanted her to marry Roy, who was wealthy, while her heart told her to marry Gordon, her soulmate, but who would she choose? Would she be able to go against her parent's wishes?
Briar wants her own true love after her best friend Zelle got married. She just needs to find a guy who will love her for her and not just her delicious baked goods.
Gordon has had his eye on Briar for a long while. He hasn't really spoken to her because he gets tongue tied in her presence. He wants to open a restaurant and her desserts would make her the perfect partner for him.
The story had fairy godmothers, mettling grandmothers, friends and a sweet happily ever after.
I received this book for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I love the way Caroline writes. This book was SO fantastic! Such a sweet clean tender romance, of true love! It just makes you feel good and warm inside. Do yourself a big favor and read this book. It has up and downs and twists and turns and will leave you with a big smile and a sigh. My favorite kind of story "happy ever after". :)
I loved this story! This one had a little more magic woven in and I was completely enchanted. Usually, this doesn't top my favorite fairy tale list, but the way the author wove it all together had me dying to see what would happen on the next page. The Fairy Godmothers played a little more of a role in this story. It was just fantastic !
Once again Caroline Lee hits a homerun. After Rapunzel's HEA, I wanted Briar to get her own. And that it was Gordon from Beauty and the Beast was wonderful. Another beautiful story from Everland Ever After.
I enjoyed this book so much that I finished it in just 2 days. It's one of those stories that you don't want to end. Caroline Lee is so talented! I really enjoy reading her books. I know everyone will love this story!
John Wayne meets the Brothers Grimm. A brand new take on age old fairy tales. A must read series for fairy tale fans as well as lovers of western historical fiction and romance.
