Sara's life had been a precarious one, touring the world with her grandfather, who lived on his wits to support them both. It was a way of life which was to have far-reaching consequences for Sara.
Once it would have seemed preposterous that she would become a "Bride of the Rif" with such wedding ceremonies as the "cleaning of the wheat" and being painted with henna. But now...
Heroine is kind of awful because she goes along with the dumbest schemes. First, she travels the world with her grandfather as he gambles and wins money from dumb, rich playboys. Then when grandpa dies, she conspires with the hero's nephew who is being forced to marry a woman he doesn't love. She agrees to pretend they're engaged so the hero will let nephew choose his own bride (!?)
Hero thinks the heroine is a prostitute who jumped from her elderly client to his nephew. He tries to buy her off and then eventually kidnaps her to the desert where they are married in a pagan ceremony. (But not consummated) This will keep her from his nephew.
When a herd of horses stampedes and puts her life in danger, the hero realizes he loves the heroine and insists she marry him in a Spanish ceremony.
Yes, it's ridiculous. No, there is no sign of love - only lust and punishing kisses. Heroine must be beautiful because she's not endearing.
H/h marry. As do the nephew and the "forced" fiance. HEAs all around.
