Anne Hampson was born on 28 November 1928 in England. At age six she had two ambitions: to teach and to write. Poverty after WWI deprived her of an education and at 14 she was making Marks & Spencer's blouses at one shilling (5p) each.

She retired when she married. Later, when her marriage broke up, she was homeless with £40 in her purse. She went back to the rag trade and lived in a tiny caravan. But she never forgot her two ambitions, and when Manchester University decided to trial older women she applied, and three years later had achieved one ambition, so set her thoughts on number two.

In 1969, her first novel, Eternal Summer, was accepted five days from posting and she soon had a contract for 12 more. From the caravan she went to a small stately home, drove a Mercedes and sailed on the QE2. From the first book, came over 125 more written for Mills & Boon, Harlequin and Silhouette. Alan Boon (the Boon of Mills & Boon) and she came up with the title for 'Harlequin Presents' over lunch at the Ritz. She suggested to Alan that they have a historical series. He told her to write one - it was done in a month, entitled Eleanor and the Marquis under the pseudonym Jane Wilby. She has the distinction of being number one in Harlequin Presents, Masquerade and Silhouette. Many of "Presents" have been reprinted many times (some as many as 16) and are now fetching up to $55, being classed as "rare" books.

She has had 3 awards, one at the World Trade Centre where she received a standing ovation from her American fans, who had come from many states just to meet her.

She was retired, but in 2005 she wrote two romance and crime novels, both of which were published by Severn House.

She passed away on 25 September 2014. She has been written her autobiography, entitled Fate Was My Friend.

Setting aside the ick factor of a 35-year-old man becoming involved with a 17-yr-old as best we can, this novel was surprisingly mild, even stunningly so when you consider it is an Anne Hampson book set in GREECE. Anne Hampson is heavy on the psychological torture in some of her books, and Greece is where some of the worst of this takes place. There are a lot of aspects of the Greek Hampson books that make them particularly anguished:

1. The heroine is often trapped there without resources or friends.
2. The heroes often have legitimate feelings or ties to the OW that they refuse to acknowledge, but at the same time are sending out signals to the very sheltered h, and are abusive when the h timidly suggests that it is hard for her to understand.
3. The OW is actively cruel to the h, sometimes at the H's instigation.

The net result is that these heroines go through the tortures of the damned before the HEA. By the time the book ends these women are broken in spirit and sometimes even physically broken.

This book, on the other hand, has an H who is genuinely kind to the h, and an OW who makes no progress. There are only a few small bumps in the road. If you can get over the fact that the H calls the h "child" throughout the book, it's a very mild offering.

Old is gold and is extremely charming. I think M&B should republish these books with new cover page. The cover page characters looks nothing like that explained in the story. What a disservice...

I read it because it's set in Skiathos, my favourite Greek Island. There's not much else I can say really.

I'm glad the wicked stepmother got her just desserts.☺️

Kathy was left with nothing after her father died, she only had a cruise she was suppose to be going on with him before he passed. Her evil step-mother was kicking her out and her evil step-sister was enjoying the free ride. When she got lost in Greece, she met Adam and from there he changed everything for her.

I thought the book was weak but in a way hilarious once Adam got a hold of Kathy. It was sweet watching as him go after her evil step-mother and step-sister. Other than that, it was pretty far off. I don't know if this would EVER happen in real life.

this was dreadful, tedious, n mighty boring ! the heroine, kathy had no character n got on my nerves. she was so helpless n malleable !i mean any1 cud mould her into what they wanted. i really dunno what adam saw in her apart her beauty. he was better off wid stella, at least the latter was a woman. kathy was a complete child, not yet ready 4 a relationship wid the opposite sex. let alone marriage ! der was no chemistry bet them n kathy was so sexually unaware, dat i felt really disgusted wid the age difference; kathy being 17 n adam 35.

Maybe the book is just extremely out-of-date, but I wasn't digging the whole innocent teen virgin and benevolent much, much older man. She was way too childlike and I wasn't sure that he loved her as a woman. The evil stepmother and stepsister brought color into the book, thank god.
