Rate this book
Lucy Cotton lives in her ancestors’ old Colonial plantation with an endless stream of restless spirits and her shaman-boyfriend Maddox. Supernatural thriller meets magical realism in the addictive Cotton Family Series where a woman learns alarming secrets about her family’s past and discovers she is no longer a normal person with a normal life. She is a witch, and the powers of her ancestors have been handed down to her through her bloodline. In Hungry Spirits, Book 2 of the Cotton Family Series, we continue Lucy’s story following her initiation into the craft. Lucy rises to greet her newfound powers and life seems to be falling into place. She’s running her ancestors’ colonial plantation, cultivating a beautiful romance with her childhood friend, and learning the ways of her witch-ancestors. But loose ends were never tied up, and Lucy has to come face to face with reality – the spirits at the Cotton Plantation do not rest. The spirit that haunted her as a child and tried to take her life refuses to give up his vendetta. In search of the truth, Lucy discovers it’s not just the spirits who have it out for her, but another family whose ancestral roots run as deep as her own. Will she be able to protect herself and her home from her enemies? Will she finally solve the mysteries that held her family in turmoil for centuries? Or will she succumb to the pressure of a town’s hatred, a spirit’s malice, and another family’s revenge? What fans are saying about the Cotton Family “Nicole really has a knack for developing her characters in such a vivid way---I could see their faces, really relate to them, and it was like I just wanted to be a part of their world. Not to spoil anything, but the ending definitely makes you CRAVE more! I can't wait for the next one! The Cotton Family Series is my new guilty pleasure!” – S.F. “I love this book! Completely unexpected. Never bored, I couldn't put it down. A few parts sent chills down my back, so creepy! And one in particular really hit home with me as I lost a childhood friend as a teenager. I can't wait for the next in the series, I just want to get back into that house and figure out all the mysteries and hear about the history of the Cotton Family. I can totally see this book becoming a movie.” – J.

The second book to the Cotton Series will keep you on your toes! A great mystery with a twist that I should have seen coming, but didn't! Full of some serious magick work and some great topsy, turvey paths. I loved this storyline and look forward to the third book and some answers!!

The second book in the Cotton Family Series starts off a few months or so from where the first book ended.

Once again the bright points of the book were the flashbacks to the historical points of view. I really enjoyed reading those - as I love historical fiction. Without mentioning too much, I really enjoyed the Native American "ceremony"...um how do I even mention this without saying too much? The other thing I like about the series is I always want to know what is going to happen next, this really is a great story.

I also really like the addition of Genevieve (Vieve), she adds a sweetness with a bit of kick to the cast of characters that, which I think replaces the departure of one of the key people from the first book, I wondered how Lucy's mum might have viewed Vieve - I have to think despite the initial shock and sense of hurt, she would warm to her, as she genuinely is a lovely character.

I have to say though, I'm not a massive fan of Lucy Cotton; one of the reasons is I don't really get why she's overly aggressive, like she's headstrong to a fault - and I kind of feel for Vieive and Maddox sometimes when she gets up in arms. I like that she's a strong female character and I get that she's the heir to the Cotton Family, but she's just really ornery.
