Fifteen years have passed since Juliet fled from Hawaii after uncovering a secret that ripped her family apart. Juliet returns to confront her father, but nothing goes according to plan. Nothing in Hawaii is as it seems, including Dominick Bryson, a self-contained man with secrets of his own. While Juliet tries to come to terms with her past and family, she finds herself falling into an unexpected relationship with Dominick who is her exact opposite and makes her wonder if she can have a happily ever after.
A.P. loves to read, write, travel, watch movies, listen to old timer’s talk about the good old days and daydream. She has two dogs who are world travelers and tolerate the long hours she spends in front of the computer.
This rage inducing story but still entertaining novel is more suspense than romance although it does have a strong case of insta-lust/love. Like many good suspense stories it moves quickly
The heroine left Hawaii under a huge cloud as a teenager and is now back fifteen years later for her adopted brother’s wedding at his invitation. She’s also there to square off with her adopted father and his machinations in ruining her life. Things get ugly quickly with her adopted family, and only the actions of her foul-mouthed and promiscuous best friend and the hero save her that night.
Things get even uglier when her older adopted brother visits and makes filthy accusations and tries to bribe her to leave. Other than the brother now on his honeymoon, no one in her family is happy to see her. The reactions run from ugly hostility and slut shaming to uncomfortable dismay.
Her best friend and hunky hero stop her from leaving each in their own way. As she settles in to life on the island she has to deal with the guilt of her adopted mother’s suicide, a pregnant adopted sister’s very abusive husband, the besotted H, raised eyebrows and random slut-shaming over her wicked ways as a teenager acting out. Looming over everything is her adopted father who has ruined her every attempt to make a life for her own over the last fifteen years.
Events come to a very brutal and ugly end with a family confrontation. If you’ve read other reviews, you may know, but it brings up secrets from the past.
I would have give this four stars except for a couple of things. Towards the end the heroine falls into the I’m going into the garden and eat worms and am guilty of the world spinning pity party. Yes, evil doers are dealt with and there is some retribution, but it’s off page for the most part and half-baked at best. The story would have been a lot stronger if they had been confronted with a real showdown.
All in all, entertaining. A word of warning though, there are a couple of scenes that are both emotionally as well as physically violent if that is a trigger.
Wow...what a book it was! So much pain, too many emotions, a loneliness filled teenager who grew in to a mature, strong woman but still can’t find any closure, a hate filled family, so damn supportive friends and a gem of a hero. This sums up the beautiful story with a dash of mystery. I loved how Juliet fought for each and everything. And finally she got everything back. Her family, her dignity, her hometown, the hero and my piece of mind. The way hero went after her and supported her through EVERYTHING, without ever judging or doubting her was indeed a rare thing in romance these days. The villain in this book was one piece of sh**t. I was so happy when truth finally came out. Safe, I think heroine had more partners than hero. She was somewhat wild in her teens. Recommended.
Narrated in Third Person Dual POV and a Standalone with No Cliffhanger.
I really loved the book and felt so emotional while reading.
Juliet was strong, a survivor but she, like any human had fears and insecurities too. I really felt for her. As for Dominic, I love him. His character was penned so beautifully. He just was everything a girl needed.
I also loved reading about all the different equations Juliet shared with other persons. Her siblings behavior could not be justified but I am glad to see how much it developed.
Only problem was repetitive use of names in a single paragraph. Also writing could've have been a little mature too.
Juliet is back after leaving Hawaii 15 years earlier under a cloud of anger and suspicion. She is there to confront her father but really spends the time mending fences with her family and having them understand the truth of what happened all those years ago. She also catches the eye of one of her brother's friend's Dominic who wants Juliet and not just for a few weeks but forever. I really enjoyed this story. It ended up having a bit of a complicated plot but it had some action, a bit of suspense, a strong romance and some steamy times which made for a very entertaining story.
Wow, the heroine was really emotionally abused by her adoptive family - most of them were jerks for most of the book. But thank god for Dominick stepping in! Juliet really needed someone in her corner!
