'Dark Days Inside The Light While Drunk On Wine' is a collection of writings that are some of James' more brooding work. It comes from a darker period in his life. He was upset and depressed about the state of the world as well his own personal situation. The poems were chosen from a time period in-between 2010 ~ 2014. James has been writing since the age of fifteen, and has seen many ups and downs that attribute to his poetry. His previously published book, 'Metaphorically Esoteric,' is a bit more light-hearted in nature.
James Dennis Casey IV is a poet, artist, and founder/editor-in-chief of Cajun Mutt Press. His work has been published in print and online by several international small press venues and literary magazines. Links to his newest books are below.
The 2016 La Voce dei Poeti, La Catena della Pace international poetry contest gave his entry "Warriors of the Rainbow" a critic's choice award, and his poem "That'll do Pig" was nominated for the Pushcart Prize by New Pop Lit in 2019.
James was born in Colorado, grew up in Louisiana/Mississippi, and currently resides in Illinois.
Mr. Casey's second book of poetry is just as beautiful and intriguing as his first. The way he paints with his words gives perfect mood and ambiance to each and every poem. I can see, feel, taste, smell, hear... everything he is giving us to discover with his perfect selection of words. I find all of his works so uniquely captivating. I highly recommend this book and any others of his. Thank you, James Casey, for your phenomenal poems.
Here are James Dennis Casey IV's journey through the dark days of his life. Here, too, is his journey into the light. He says it well with skeletons and whores and vampires down the streets of the Big Easy. He says it well with a few familiar tombstones and a few familiar ghosts. And he knows as well as I do (for I have also had my own dark days) that sometimes you have to make friends with the beast in order to defeat it. And always, always there is that lonesome stairway toward the light.
Here is one of his poems full of hope and wonder -
-Let It Shine-
Close the door tight Bring the dead Last gifts of the living Let them go
Do not deny The burning truth Of the son Let him live in you
This moment A monument To outlast The past is gone
Giant slayer soul Clutch my charred bones Light the candle Let it shine

I urge each one of you to go out and buy this book and read this book. Read this man's journey from darkness to light. Then rise like a phoenix fresh from the flames.
