Worried about her sister's involvement with Burt Sharaton, Charlotte attempted to tackle him about it - and for her pains found herself virtually kidnapped aboard his yacht in the Caribbean. And if she didn't cooperate, he told her, he would ruin her father. What did she do now?

I was enjoying this til around 85% or so… the hero is a kidnappy bulldozer who does what he wants and isn’t particularly interested in the word “no”…. So imagine my surprise when the h runs from him and he doesn’t lift a finger to find her for 7 months. 😵💫 They only see each other again by chance, and their reconciliation was rather meh. 🫤
Feeling lazy, (as always), so here's a Mini-Review hacked together from my reading updates:
I don't share the opinion that this book should be rated so low. (But then, my tastes do run contrarian.)
It has everything that makes a classic HP so much fun:
--A wealthy, arrogant hero, whose brutish ways are just a defense mechanism for his troubled past. --A virginal heroine who's intelligent, a working woman, moral & strong-willed. --A married older sister trying to get her hooks in the hero. --Blackmail, kidnapping & a quickie marriage to avoid scandal.
What's not to like?
Plus, this drunken confession of love from the stoic, brutish hero really got me...
"You're warm and soft and rounded," he murmured. Again his speech was a little slurred and she wondered if he were lightheaded. "I've been looking for someone like you for a long time, a long, long time..." He broke off and stiffened.
"Who was that talking?" He demanded suddenly, very clearly and coldly.

"You," [she informed him.]
I warned you from the start,"
Burt Sharaton said. "You had no right to come between Nancy and me."
But putting an end to her sister Nancy's affair with him was a responsibility Charlotte had just had to take on. She'd told him her sister refused to cruise with him on his yacht, the White Cockatoo.
Unfortunately, her plan hadn't worked and Charlotte was caught in a trap of her own making. For Burt was determined that if he couldn't have Nancy, he would take Charlotte instead!
Not quite 4 stars maybe but more than 3. I like this trope, good writers can do a lot with it.
Reread: does not hold up well on reread, H does nothing to show he cares, acts like all he wants is physical and h doesn’t know how to handle this. On the plus hand H is blonde, a welcome change.

Heroine travels to the Carribean to check up on her widowed father who is managing a hotel and her married sister who is refusing to return to her husband in England. It sounds promising, but H/h are more caricatures than characters, unfortunately.
Heroine is so overcome by her feelings (love, self-righteousness, shame) that she does the most impulsive, violent things - she clocks the hero in the head with a boat winch, she blurts out relationship details to all and sundry, she hides in a closet when she sees hero again, etc. ..
Hero is so cynical that he thinks he can kidnap the heroine (instead of her willing, married sister) and in two minutes she'll respond to his seduction. All because he's rich and good-looking. Also, he didn't lift a finger to find her after his evil father split them up. They met again by chance. Not romantic in my book.
Heroine's sister has no morals. Heroine's father is a theif.
There just aren't any characters worth reading about. This one is not for me, I'm afraid.
He is an arrogant, rich, alpha male and she is a naive virgin. They fight a lot. It’s obvious he is really into her from the early beginnings. But how and when she fell in love with him, that is the question.
You learn a lot about sailing through this novel! It has some funny parts, but mostly illogical events! Prepare yourself for shocks if you read it, especially at the end!
