Single mom Rachel Hunter has not one second to spare in her day between rearing two daughters, running a thriving goat farm, and keeping tabs on her eccentric brother. Not to mention an ex-husband who's in prison for murder and a local gang leader harassing her at every turn!
Then a gorgeous, tattooed man crashes into her fence and she finds out exactly what it means to have her hands full. Pruxnae Dyuvad ab Mhij is sent to Earth by a mysterious Net telepath to protect a young girl, from what, the 'path doesn't say. He arrives at the girl's home expecting the worst, and is greeted by the young girl's mother, a honey-haired, plain spoken temptress whose mountain fortitude makes her a perfect candidate for the Choosing.
Dyuvad's first duty is to his mission, protecting a young girl from dangers unknown. It doesn't take long for the danger to become apparent, however, and soon, he and Rachel are embroiled in a reckless game led by a man who will stop at nothing to control Rachel and her children.
Lucy Varna is a former professional genealogist and a one-time astrophysicist-wannabe turned anthropology major. She's been a reader for as long as she can remember. As a child, after devouring every suitable book in her house, she moved on to newspapers, encyclopedias, and telephone directories, and finally to her grandmothers' home libraries.
In addition to reading, writing, and studying dead people, Lucy enjoys knitting, music, and long drives through the countryside during autumn. She lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northeast Georgia, surrounded by a large, extended family, where she also writes Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Mystery under the name Celia Roman.
This was a very good story. I liked the characters and the story was very enjoyable. This is the first story I've read by this author and I liked it well enough that I'd be willing to try more of her work in the future.
Rachel is a single mother of 2 girls and owns a goat farm. Rachel has her brother as a next door neighbor and a best friend but not much of anyone to reply on other than that. Rachel's Ex is in prison because he got involved with a gang and committed a crime. Unfortunately, He went to prison owing a debt to the gang and they're trying to get the money out of Rachel.
Dyuvad is an alien from a planet far from Earth. His civilization doesn't have many woman so men of his race frequently look for wives off planet. Dyuvad is contacted by a "path" (telepath) that sends him on a mission to protect a young girl on a far away planet for unexplained reasons.
Dyuvad arrives on Earth and at Rachel's farm, posing as a foreigner that is looking to rent the spare room she has available. There's a strong attraction between them and soon they're both thinking about more than a tenant/landlady relationship. Dyuvad does get along well with the girls and soon is fitting into the family while trying to figure out where the danger will come from. The story pretty much goes how you'd expect but despite the known route, it was still interesting enough to keep me on the path (so to speak). The relationship between Rachel and Dyuvad was good and most of the drama came from the external dangers and wondering what would happen when Dyuvad's task is completed. But that doesn't last long as the story does end with Rachel and girls making a family with Dyuvad for a HEA.
This was a very enjoyable story. Rachel was a very good heroine...smart, self-sufficient and a good mother. It was nice to see Dyuvad come and help her out though because while Rachel can take care of herself in most situations, should she really have to? Dyuvad was good guy and made a good help-mate to Rachel, more than willing to take some of the weight off her shoulders. The story wasn't perfect but overall, I liked the characters and story very much and wold recommend it. :)
I liked this sci-fi romance. There were a couple of times That Rachel was almost tstl. If you know a very bad gang leader is out to get you and your kids and you hear someone on your front porch at 3am, don't even think about friends or lost tourists. C'mon.......the first thing Rachel thought of should have been the gang members not stupid visitor scenarios. Other than that I thought the story was very good.
Dyuvad was competing with his friend for a red-headed female for the Choosing when his friend shot him, a delaying blast just to make sure that he would escape with the girl. As Dyuvad reset his armor’s computer, he was contacted by a Net telepath for an urgent assignment to protect a child from an unspecified danger. It seemed like an impossible task – how would he ever find her in the uncivilized frontier region among all the people living there? Why was she so important?
Rachel was awakened at 5 a.m. by a loud crash. She assumed her brother’s dogs next door got out again and were chasing the livestock. But her daughter, Kelly, excitedly ran back inside and reported that an unconscious man was outside and the goats were eating his backpack and clothes! When Dyuvad opened his eyes, he recognized the rural farm setting as similar to what he had grown up with at home. He figured that was why they assigned this job to him so he could blend in.
As Dyuvad begins to meet the people in Rachel’s life, he sees why his protection is needed. Her ex-husband’s involvement with a gang has put them all in danger. The boss is coming after them in payment of Juan’s debt, but they have to get past Dyuvad first! Will he be able to fend off an entire gang of thugs? And what about the family Dyuvad has bonded with – will he leave them when his job is completed and they are finally safe? And again, why was Tiny so important to the Net telepaths?
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Rachel and Dyuvad as they teased each other and a beautiful relationship formed among each of his temporary family members. He knew he would miss them when he had to leave. I laughed at Rachel’s shy reactions and constant blushing as she witnessed some of Dyuvad’s playfulness. Before I had read even half of the book, I quickly purchased the rest of the series! This author is definitely great at what she does! High praises, and I unequivocally recommend this story! I voluntarily reviewed the book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.
In this continuation of the series, we meet new characters (or, if you already read “A Warrior’s Touch” get context), but do still have a few cameos of previous characters at the beginning. The book mostly takes place on Earth so if you don’t have the context of who the Pruxnae are, you may be a bit confused as to why Dyuvad does some things. As such, I recommend starting of the beginning of the series if you’re just hearing about them!
I would say this one is slightly lighter on the sexual content than some of the others, and a little more for setting up the foundation of the relationship. Since there’s a full family involved, I think this makes a little more sense to make sure that Dyuvad has a relationship with Rachel’s daughters as well. The munchkins are adorable and I’m particularly interested to learn more about Tiny and how she fits into the bigger picture of the story. For some reason, I don’t think we’re going to leave it off where it is now, but that that story might be revisited. Having read this one, I think I’m due to re-read “A Warror’s Touch” and remember what happens with Yasmin!
Warning: Contains sexual content and some violence.
Who should read it? Science fiction fans looking for a romantic twist! I do, however, think this one could be a bit confusing without the context of previous book.
Title: Alien Mine Author: Lucy Varna Format: Audio Narrators: Paul Brion, Angel Clark Genre: SciFi Alien Romance, military, bodyguard, single mom, southern, comedy Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: Book two of The Pruxnae POV: Dyuvad and Rachel Steam Level: Slow burn to steamy 5/5
Alien Mine is my favorite so far of this series. Alien Mine is a standalone but if you've read The Choosing (book 1), you find out who the other man was in Ziri's house and you understand a little bit more about the Choosing referenced in Alien Mine. I loved Rachel and her creative non-swearing curses. The building tension throughout kept me listening long after I planned to stop. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I received this audiobook for free from StoryOrigin. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This is book 3 in Varna's The Pruxnae series and I have to say, this one is my favorite so far. I loved the characters, especially single mom Rachel and her daughters. They were strong and sweet I just loved the devotion and innocence they were able to maintain. The southernisms were so much fun to hear, especially since the translator couldn't translate them and left Dyuvad to figure a lot on his own. I loved the devotion to family and I loved that Rachel and Dyuvad made their connection and he was upfront with her on what to expect before "kidnapping" her for the choosing. Narration was smooth and easy to listen to and with the dual narration really brought the two main characters to life!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
I listened to the audible version of the story and the narrators did a fantastic job. This is by far my favorite book in this series thus far, and that's saying a lot because none of the books I've listened to blew me away. I do however, wish that the ending was better. I wish it ended with me absolutely knowing that Rachel, her girls Kelly and Tiny, and Dyuvad were a family instead of it ending with no real closure. Yes, they were all together but the author could have let us know with certainty that Rachel won the battle and claimed Dyuvad. Over all, I enjoyed the characters and liked storyline but I wish there was a bit more closure to this story.
Romantic suspense with human alien hunk and single mother goat farmer with two daughters and dangerous ex-husband. Moves very quickly. FYI, don't bother trying to pronounce the alien names, places and words, they are impossible and it doesn't change to the story.
The characters are fun. I felt the colloquial speech was a little exaggerated, which was distracting. The secondary characters needed more fleshing out if they are going to be leads in future books.
Enjoyed this one. Loved the relationship between Tiny, Kelly and Dyuvad. Glad they got a 'second daddy'. Will continue reading series of only to find out why Tiny is so important.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Rachel and her two girls have you giggling at times and Dyuvad just has you drooling. He's been sent to Earth to protect Rachel's youngest daughter but he ends up falling in love with Rachel in the process. I look forward to reading more soon. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The next book in the pruxnae series. This one centres around not only the Main characters of Dyuvad and Rachel, but on Rachel's family including her two daughters.. one Daughter the reason Dyuvad has been contacted by the netmind and sent to earth to protect. No spoilers..
This instalment of the series was not as steamy ( oh there is still a level of sexual content) just not as much as the previous books.. the fact that family were more involved in this book it made sense that the storyline included the relationships not only between Rachel and Dyuvad but with the children and extended family as well..
Another fantastic instalment to the series, the author has an amazing ability to paint a world ( alien or otherwise) with wonderful details and captivating storyline..
I'm intrigued to see what happens with Tiny and her role in the bigger Pruxnae scheme of things..
I would recommend this Sci-Fi romance to all fans of the genre, if you haven't started the Pruxnae series, I would suggest you start at the beginning.
Dyuvad discovers a whole new world when he is charged with protecting Tiny
The family dynamics of this story captivated me. The siblings trying to understand one another, and navigate their friendships, a mother's love, and a man coming to realize what having a child in his life could mean.
I haven't read the previous stories in this series, but felt this done in one story stood well on its own.
I was gifted with a copy of this story, and switched to the Kindle Unlimited version when it was published. I enjoyed the characters a great deal, and was intrigued by what was shared of Dyuvad's culture in this story, I suspect that is further built up in other stories, and because of that I am tempted to look for the other books in this series.
I've read a few books where kids seemed to accidentally disappear at times, where as I was really impressed not only with what fun characters Kelly and Tiny were, but how they were always in a logical and story appropriate place.
He is sent to Earth to protect a young girl but not given much more information. The family is facing a serious threat and he begins to really care for them all. Will he find love too?
Rachel and Dyuvad make a very good couple. She has a tough set of circumstances and can certainly use some help to keep her kids safe. I really liked how the author developed the relationship. There are many surprises in the story which keep it interesting. I have not read the other books yet but was able to enjoy the story.
Wow this series only gets better and better! Ms. Varna, is a very talented writer. The characters are awesome with a strong personality. This is a series that makes you smile and laugh out loud? Highly recommended and keep them coming.
This is a new author for me. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from her. There was a good mix of humor, action and romance. I would have liked to learn more about why Tiny was so important. This review is my own opinion, voluntarily given.
First book that I've read by this author. Characters caught and held my interest. Starting the next story immediately then going back for the earlier stories.
