The local humans don’t know it, but they live among a growing community of shifters, mages, dark elves, and even vampires. San Fransisco may look like a beautiful city by day, but when the lights go down, the streets are crawling with paranormal creatures, of all kinds.

Angela Mason works for the Order of Protection. This means that it’s her job to protect the city from dark supernatural forces, and do whatever is needed to keep the people safe, including partnering with the irresistibly handsome stranger, Cole Avery.

Cole is a shifter mercenary, a ruggedly handsome were-bear, who is dedicated to getting the job done. His reputation as a ruthless warrior speaks for itself, so when he is called to help Angela out on a missing person report, she knows his help is needed…even if she’d rather go it alone.

What she doesn’t expect, is to feel such a strong connection to the dangerous shifter. Thankfully, Cole Avery’s rule of never mixing business with pleasure should keep them focused on solving the mystery. Or so they think…

Readers: This title was previously published as Bear Meets Girl, and is a stand-alone novel that features a sexy heroine, and the half-bear, half-mage that can't get enough of her curves. I hope you enjoy this BBW paranormal romance story that is filled with just enough magic, and a lot of love.

This was a fun and fast paced shifter read. I liked the characters and plot. I wanted more with an epilogue but I'm guessing we will get more of a follow-up with this couple in future books. It was an enjoyable paranormal romance and was a kindleulimited.

This book was great! Shapeshifter goodness with romance, magic, and action thrown in.

I finished this book within a few hours of starting it. I could not put this book down. I could picture everything perfectly. My world blurred away into the world of this book, and I was taken away from daily stress which felt great. I am starting to fall in love with shifter stories now.

The love story in this book was perfect. The relationship was one that everyone would believe to be real. In some books the relationship seems to perfect, and without flaw, but this book convinces you of just how real the romance, love and relationship are, because everyone know that relationships all have their flaws and spat's no matter what.

Not only was the love story believable, and very real, but everything about the book was completely realistic. I can't say all of my thoughts about this for fear of a spoiler, but I can tell you that the book felt real while I was reading it. Every little emotion in this book became my own, and the book was my reality in those hours that I read it.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!!

The cover is a work of art! Love it!!

This book has been edited and extended since it was originally published as Bear Meets Girl. This is book 1 in the Order of Protection series. This book is for adults only due to the steamy content.

This book has plenty of action and twists and turns. I really like Angela and her devotion to friends and family. Cole has had a rough life never being accepted. I really liked both of the main characters. This book definitely keeps you guessing. The ending was a bit of a let down for me, but the book is well worth the read.

I recommend this book to shifter and paranormal fans looking for a different world filled with shifters, mages, magic, and more!

Flame throwing, Mr. Growly meets Ms. Badge

Bear Meets Girl is the first in a new series, the Order of Protection. You get the gist very quickly that Angela Mason and her partner Raina Madison are Protectors. Already I was intrigued, two kick butt female supernatural cops, this one promised to be good. On their first night off in an age, the two meet up at the local bar for supernaturals. Raina quickly gets distracted by an enticing dark elf and wanders off. Soon after a bar fight starts and Angela has her hands full dealing with a shifter and a vamp with no back up, that is until a tall hunk of hybrid mage-bear shifter intercedes. When the dust settles, her rescuer disappears without a thank you and Raina is missing. When a search turns up evidence to the fact that Raina has been kidnapped and Angela’s family is involved, Angela is determined to get her partner back whatever the cost. When Angela gets to the precinct to report the matter, it’s to discover that the Commander has hired mercenary, Cole Avery to assist her in a secret mission to get his daughter, Raina back.

Angela walks a fine line between her loyalties to her Kodiak bear clan and the Order of Protection that she works for as a Protector. In her capacity as a protector she is responsible for maintaining the peace between all the various factions of supernaturals; shifters, vamps, mages, fae and demon. At the same time, she’s tasked with keeping the supernaturals hidden amongst the humans. It’s a tough job, one that is often fought claw and fang or in the case of her partner with just a bit of magic. When she first encounters Cole she knows that interest she’s feeling is the mating call. The problem… hybrids are taboo. But damn this is one fine taboo she’s about to take a walk on the wild side with.

Cole Avery is a two thousand year old Black Bear-Mage hybrid. Considering the total aversion both the shifters and the mage community have for hybrids, Cole has learned to suppress his bear for the most part. He lives his life as a solitary mercenary and tends to work alone. Well this is one time he isn’t given that choice. To say he’s feeling the bite of the mating call would be putting things mildly. Reality though tells him to steer clear. He’s been down this road before and has the emotional scars to prove it. Getting past those scars and learning to deal with someone who doesn’t look upon him with total aversion is going to be a challenge. Good thing he’s up for it.

Bear Meets Girl has its list of nefarious characters and some are rather close to home for Angela. There is a city to save and a partner to rescue. These story elements blend nicely into the building relationship between Angela and Cole. The two are kept on their toes while the heat between them continues to skyrocket. Bear Meets Girl is a great start to a new series and I’m looking forward to seeing what Ms. Vale comes up with next. So if you’re looking for bear shifters, a bit of magic and the pursuit of law and order, look no further. Bear Meets Girl delivers.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story shows us how love can overcome any kind of prejudice.

Cole is a Hybrid werebear and mage, he has been surrounded by prejudice on both sides all his life. A thousand years of no hope of ever finding a woman to love him. He has been so shunned that he has turned into an untrusting person, a man that has the powers of both, he works alone as a mercenary, thought to be a legend. Will he be able to accept what the fates have sent him when confronted with his true mate or will he choose to continue living a life of loneliness?

Angela is a pureblood police officer working for the Order, the Supernatural Police tasked by the government to keep the paranormal in order in a world where both para and humans coexist. Then she sees a man conjure a ball of fire, but she has only heard of him in stories, but her bear recognizes him, he's their mate?.

Will Angela be able to break down that wall that prejudice has constructed around his heart, show him that there are those who will accept him whatever he is?

Great story of betrayal and love.

Bearly Magic Bearly Magic Bear Meets Girl Catherine Vale

Reviewed by SFF Dragon*

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes their heroes hunky, their heroines feisty and their endings happy.

'Bearly Magic' previously released as 'Bear Meets Girl', is the first book in the new Order of Protection series by Catherine Vale. I was hooked from the first page and really couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next one.

Out at the Crazy Horse bar on their first night off after two weeks of double shifts for the Order of Protection, the government sanctioned supernatural law enforcement organisation, Protectors, partners and best friends Angela Mason, a werebear and Raina Madison, a mage, are both bone tired and more in need of sleep than booze. Things take a turn for the worse when Angela tries to break up a fight, and gets unexpected help in the form of taboo legend and werebear mage Cole Avery and then she discovers that Raina has been kidnapped by her deranged adoptive brother Garrison Hendricks. Forced to work together to rescue Raina, and ignoring their initial reaction to each other, true mates Angela and Cole seem to be at each others throats....

I'm not going to give any spoilers, but this is an absolutely terrific action packed paranormal romance with humour, sadness, steam, bad guys to fight, a rescue to complete, a city to save and, of course, the HEA we all expect. I loved this book and highly recommend it to everyone who likes their heroes hunky, their heroines feisty and their endings happy. 5 well earned stars and I really can't wait for the next one.

this was great paranormal romance with a bit of action thrown in.

Angela/Angie - Bear Shifter working for the Order of Protection - a government-sanctioned organization whose job it is to police all shifters, and supernatural beings. Workaholic, daughter of an overprotective pack leader, and can hold her own in a fight. Is out for some down time with her friend and work partner: Raina - when a bar fight breaks out and her partner disappears.

In walks...Cole - 1/2 Bear Shifter 1/2 Mage (pretty much an outcast from both groups)- he lends her a hand in the fight and then the room heats up and sparks fly between Angie & Cole - both know and feel the connection of a potential mate - but he's a rogue & sometimes mercenary.

They are thrown together for the investigation and retrieval of Raina - this only strengthens the connection they are trying to fight - so maybe they don't fight too hard! And both the investigation and sheets heat up as they work together.

loved the relationship between Angie & Cole - yes, there was instant attraction and lots of steamy tension and great chemistry - they did resist - but it was pretty much a forgone conclusion. I did enjoy how Cole seemed to draw Angie out emotionally and also let her do what she was trained for and was good at - really didn't sense that he was trying to hold her back even though he wanted to make her HIS.

Hot Shifters - Check
Instant Attraction - Check
Steamy Chemistry - Check
Good Action Scenes & Plot - Check
HEA or HFN - Check

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this Advance Reader Copy and was not compensated in any way.

I'm a huge fan of Catherine Vale books so when I got a chance to read this book I was so excited and it was wonderful. Bearly Magic was fantastic.

In this book we follow Cole and Angelina .The main reason why they first meet is because they have to work together to find Angelina's best friend who's just been kidnapped. You can see the chemistry between these two from the very beginning, it almost felt like it was a promise from the author letting us know that we were in for a sexy ,thrilling ride with these two in this story. I love the romance in this book if I had to describe it in three words they would be sexy, fun and heart pounding .Every minute I spent with this couple had me rooting for them more and more .I loved the world that Catherine Bell creates with the shifters and the mages and all the order of protection ,Its all so very fascinating. There was so much happening in the story, It held onto me and did not let go. With the sizzling hot romance ,all paranormal creatures and a plot that will keep your eyes glued in this book Catherine Vale creates an excellent story with Bearly Magic.

Bearly Magic is a sexy, thrilling ,paranormal romance. Iam so excited to get my hands on Catherine Vale next book . If you love all these things in your books I suggest you get a copy.

You know Catherine Vale never ceases to amazing with ever book that she writes. This was such an amazing story. Loved ever minute of it. There are a few surprises along the way but I am sure you will fall in love with Angela and Cole as much as I did.

Angela is this beautiful, over worked, bear shifter, She works for the Order of Protections who's job is to be police to the supernatural. Angela no matter how tired she feels talks her partner/friend Raina into going out to the Crazy Horse with her. Angela could not even know the danger that was waiting to happen at the Crazy Horse.

Cole was this sexy Hybrid. He was part shifter and part mage. The one thing he could not do is relationships. He just did not fit into either world. How lonely it must to be to be such an outcast and not be waited and feared by human, shifter, mage, or any other supernatural being. The connection he felt when he was around Angela was undeniable, but he could not allow a relationship to form. Now here Cole is having to work with the one person he needs to stay away from, Angela.

This is a great series-beginning story! Normally, most of the PNR books and stories I read, the paranormal characters are of a singular type—wolves, bears, big cats, vampires, magic-users, etc. This time, we get a mercenary bear shifter who’s also a mage. He ends up being partnered with a pureblood female bear shifter who works for the equivalent of a PN police department and the sparks fly! There are political undertones, decoys, misunderstandings, and an attraction stronger than the characters themselves can handle. Being someone who never really had a place to belong for quite some time and often misunderstanding people my own age because I didn’t really interact with people from a similar background, I can definitely sympathize with Cole. I can’t wait to read more!

Family can become estranged
In this well written story you have a team of supernatural’s that are part of a protection agency. This story is about Angela and her partner Raina and a stranger named Cole. Raina get kidnapped by some radicals and it’s up to Angela and Cole to find and retrieve her. But the kidnapper is someone Angela knows, or at least she use to. And there’s more going on than meets the eye. I loved this story that keeps my interest throughout the book. Very entertaining and makes me want more about this agency and the world it’s created in.

Angela Mason is a bear shifter and paranormal cop. Cole Avery is something else. In this tale we enter a fascinating world of humans and supernaturals trying to co-exist. I love Angela. She is a strong woman who is doing a job she loves and a heart the size of Texas. Cole is the one with the angst. This is not your typical shifter story and although it is short it is a full tale with a happy ending. I can’t wait to revisit.

I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.

Fast paced and packed with action this book i can say was enjoyable.

Still at times i found it boring and dragging and it failed to keep my interest at points still at others i just couldn't let the book be.

The attraction between the two characters was very realistic and the story was intresting enough to want to read a second perhaps book that would dive more into world and the agency.

A sexy fun paranormal read. I enjoyed both the plot and the main characters; take charge bear shifter Angela and sexy half mage half shifter Cole.
Although it was shorter than I would've liked I still loved it and would recommend it.

A Lovely Paranormal Romance

Catherine Vale has written a wonderful paranormal romance. With a strong heroine, and a hero that isn't afraid of his feelings, these are a characters that you want to follow until the end.
The story itself is fast paced, with an intriguing storyline that sucks you in from the beginning.
As with all this author's books, I didn't want it to end. It has well written love scenes, sass, heart, and an HEA. I truly enjoyed Angela and Cole's story, and highly recommend this to paranormal romance lovers.

Good story!

I really enjoyed this story-the characters, settings and plot well thought out. These are definitely characters that I would like to read about again in a series. Down side? Whoever was in charge of placing the "," commas needs to be fired. It was a willy-nilly field day of commas in some sentences! There was also a need of better editing. Errors were missed, and while I try to ignore them I'm just too darned picky to not have them affect me. Still, I recommend it. Enjoy! 🐺

first off I had this book under a different title.. "bearly magic" is what it was called and aside from wondering if I had the right book at first I really enjoyed this one. the characters were very interesting on their own and together they made a great team. the chemistry between Cole and Angela was instant and electric. there were a few mistakes made like referring to a character by a different name but other than that it was a solid story with just enough heat.

This book takes a look at possibilities in shifter society I had never even considered by introducing us to a magic-wielding bear. Then drop him in the middle of a political crisis and partner him with a fiercely independent full-blooded she-bear and you have the perfect recipe for chaos, action, and adventure. By now, I’ve read these all completely out of order, but I think this is one of my favorite series by this author.

I definitely enjoyed this one. However, it was probably a bit too much of an unexplained insta-love for me, plus the way it was written (I really had no idea which POV I was supposed to be reading at times) got me confused sometimes, too. But it was still a nice, shorter read which I liked (can I just say - finally, Catherine Vale? :D)

Great book.

An unusual combination of bear and mage have made an abomination, as far as both worlds are concerned. Two thousand years he has lived, never knowing love until he is hired by a Protector to find and save his daughter and has to partner with her best friend Angela.

Soooo. Hmmmm. First book of 2017! I was somewhat disappointed by this book. First it was way too short for everything that happened in it. It also did that thing where the characters, especially Cole, kept showing powers that perfectly fit the situation which made it feel rather unrealistic. The feelings between the MCs just came out of nowhere and moved way too fast for my taste. The writing style was also rather tedious, it did the whole list thing with it's sentences and i wasn't a fan of it. The plot was interesting, but somewhat badly written.

Angela Mason was a purebred shifter and a Protector, the equivalent to the police to the paranormal. It was her day off and she was at the paranormal bar Crazy Horse with her Protector partner, Raina Madison, the commander’s daughter. Raina went after an elf looking for fun and a fight broke out in the bar. Angela was alone and needed help but she could not find Raina. Lucky for her a shifter was there to help her subdue the fighters. But he wasn’t only a shifter he was also a mage. She recognized him and was surprised and...aroused! There was a sexual tension between them and she knew he felt it too. The backup Protectors took care of the fighters and the shifter mage left leaving Angela thinking that she had touched him and felt a shock of desire racing inside her. But, it wasn’t impossible! That didn’t mean that he was... She could not find Raina and talked to the elf Raina was after but he didn’t remember what happened with her. Back to the Precinct, dragging the elf, she knew Raina was kidnapped and worse the one designated as her partner in the rescue mission was Cole Avery, the mage shifter from the bar. Cole was annoyed by the reaction she was stirring up in him. He trust no one and would not let his guard down. He was sure she would be prejudice against working with him. But more surprises waited for them because Angela recognized one of the kidnappers. He was from her brother’s clan! Very interesting the chemistry between this two characters. There was no blinding attraction between Angela and Cole unlike other mate stories. They were fighting all the time even when they had sex. Umm...They kept a close eye on each other expecting things go wrong. It seemed like they have a choice whether or not accept their mating as we learned with Laura’s narration. It was through acceptance and trust that their feelings were rooting. It had been hard for Cole by being a rejected hybrid but he was doing his best for Angela. Interesting story with action, intrigue, sex, suspenseful plot and a different hero character. Cole’s character made me think in Tom Cruise’s movies. That “don’t trust but I’m really attracted” fit some of the movie actor films. Liked the development of the story and it have some twists that added more interest to the story. Also, the end was more realistic. Love the shifter’s stories and how Catherine Vale made them so interesting.

Bear Meets Girl by Catherine Vale

Angela is a bear shifter and a Protector and works for the Order of Protection, a government-sanctioned organization whose job it is to police the supernaturals. When her partner and friend Raina goes missing, Angela's shocked to find out her adopted brother has something to do with it. When she gets outside help, in the form of a sexy hybrid male, she's taken aback by the strong attraction. But things are never simple, especially when she has to work with a man she is fiercely attracted to, while trying to find her partner.

Cole is a hybrid mage/shifter, and a freelancer. He has been hired to help Angela find her partner. His ruthless, deadly and unforgiving when it comes to his work. Cole has always been called an abomination to their kind, life has been difficult and lonely and has made it tough at times. Then he meets Angela and his life changes. When she accepts him for who and what he is, giving him her trust, his heart starts to soften and warm. He can't help but feel the strong attraction between them. It's interfering with his life and work, and he doesn't know how to deal with it.

Cole knows it can't go any further than sex between them, because a full-blooded shifter doesn't tie themselves to a hybrid. But he clearly doesn't know Angela very well, if he thinks she will give up so easily. So they don't only have their feelings and attraction to contend with but also finding Angela's partner and brother, to stop him from causing destruction and chaos.

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline had action and suspense. It was an interesting story, which I really liked and thoroughly enjoyed. The characters were awesome, I loved them. Cole was the deadly broody type and Angela was sweet, accepting and loving. They complimented each other perfectly. I loved the chemistry and the urgency they shared in their relationship, you could feel the attraction. It was a nice easy read and was very enjoyable!

I WAS GIVEN THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW AND THIS IS MY HONEST OPINION .... OVER 18 READING
A MUST READ, CATHERINE HAS A GREAT STORY HERE !!!!!
Angela Mason,a protector(bear shifter, who basically was a supernatural cop) was waiting at the club for her partner Raina Madison (a mage and the commanders daughter) Soon after Raina arrived she saw a dark elf enters and she ends up going to him to dance. But a few minutes later a fight breaks out between a panther and a vampire, Angela shows her badge and tries to stop it. After taking the panther out ,she turns to the vampire who doesn't intend to calmly get arrested (and she wonders why her partner has showed up to back her up) when this huge guy steps in to help. Something tells her he is a shifter but do that, but he handles magic like a mage, and shifters can't do that , but something in her head says there is one who can but no that's not real. She called for back up to take them to jail and went in to do the paperwork,Angela goes back to look for her partner once more before going to the station ,as she is almost done she finds the dark elf, who seems to not remember anything,so she takes him to the station too. There is a shock about who could have done this and can Angela put things behind her and do her job to find her partner. The commander had another surprise for her a temporary partner,Cole Avery,(a bear shifter mage hybrid) the man who had helped her at the club.So now you got the chase of a life time to try and find and rescue Raina before any thing bad happens to her and time is running out. You also have Cole thing he's not good enough for a purebred shifter or a mage for that matter,2000 years have taught him that, but he had not met Angela yet.During the search it becomes plain they must go to talk to her father (Cole doesn't really like that). Many die before they can free Raina and themselves (as they both are captured too). But I hope there will be more too there story even if it's part of someone else 's story.I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more.
