Kink! I'm reading about kink! Well, nothing hardcore, but still. Spanking! French maid costumes! Light bondage!
Donna Jay has done what few are able to do: appeal bdsm elements to me. I fully support consenting adult sex, but that's not normally my thing, ya know? Nonetheless, Jay painted vivid pictures of desire from Zoe (fictional character crush, ahoy!) and her subtle reactions to paddles and butt-slapping. In fact, the kink in this story is mild and palatable for noobs like myself. Reading it was hot, too! Per my usual whining, I wish it'd had more sex scenes, especially after all that buildup in the former half of the book.
Zoe's a dream. She's pure and timid and derives pleasure from being smacked around a bit. Basically a PERFECT character. Claire, however, didn't manage to get too much of my love. I didn't hate her, yet well into the story, I came to the conclusion that she wasn't my cuppa tea. No biggie.
I present the biggest of thumbs up for the overarching theme of consent! Bravo! Well done without preachiness. The writing is well done along with the Canadian vs NZ vernacular bits. I liked that a lot.
Unfortunately, I loved their sex, but I didn't fall for their love. So, unless a re-read will change my mind, I'll keep this in the 3.5 star section. And my eyes are now open to more flavorful sex in my reading life!
