Billionaire research scientist Victor Franklin made his fortune selling inventions to extend and enhance the lives of the richest people in the world. But fantastic wealth and success can’t protect him from haunting memories of the tragic accident that killed his wife. Now a fatal degenerative disease threatens his only son, and Franklin is desperate to cure him.
But Franklin is convinced that his new experiment will do more than save his son; he believes it is the greatest leap forward the human race has made since first crawling out of the primordial slime. If he succeeds, Franklin will have the power to change the course of human history forever.
As the experiment unfolds, however, unforeseen events force Franklin to improvise. Will he be able to maintain control of his work and save his son?
Or will he lose everything he has been striving to achieve?
"Monster" is a contemporary re-imagining of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley’s classic novel "Frankenstein."
When not traversing the imaginary worlds she creates in her fairy tales and fantasy stories, Cela Day lives in a tiny cottage with her husband and a lot of plants, all of which ("whom?" she adds hopefully) have names. She believes reading The Chronicles of Narnia cover-to-cover countless times as a child taught her more about grammar and readable syntax than any English class she ever attended. She's also drawn many "architectural" renderings of the castle of her dreams, which will feature plant-friendly southern-facing windows and a lush meadow for Talking Horses.
In recent years she's enjoyed reading up-and-coming indie fantasy/fairy tale authors, and to the best of her ability (i.e., time/budget limitations) is committed to encouraging other writers (particularly those who tell stories from a Christian perspective) to develop their talent.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Victor Franklin has a subject and believes he now has given him eternal life. What happenes when he wakes his subject up is interesting to read. I won't give anything away but it's all good. Everybody wants to live forever but they don't want eternal life the right way. I love some of these reads that are original. This is a good read.
