No one knows why the district attorney is gunning for Susan Wilson, but Clint Wolf is determined to find out—even if it’ll get him in trouble. While he works to clear Susan’s name, his crusade is sidelined when a bar manager is murdered during an apparent armed robbery. The method of operation is eerily similar to those used by the ruthless gang who killed his family, and Clint might soon have to face down the demons from his past to solve the mystery.
Will Clint walk that fine line between good and evil, or will he abandon his principles to settle an old score? Whatever choice he makes, one thing is certain…it’ll come at a hefty price.

I just finished another good book in this series. As usual I liked the main and secondary characters in the book. I thought the story moved at a good pace and for the most part made sense lol. He did a good job with the location and the dialogue. I gave this book a little lower grade than the first two books in the series for a couple of reasons. I thought maybe the action scenes were too many and maybe a little over the the top. I do not think that is his best talent when it comes too writing, he is ok at it but not great maybe that will improve in future books in the series. I also thought he tries to hard sometimes at the end of the book to surprise the reader with who the bad guy was lol. At least for me the murder case part of the book was too twisty confusing and turning. I did like the book it is worth reading . I would give it around a 3.3 stars. I will read the next book in the series and I do say give it a spin.
Bourg’s final offering in his Clint Wolf police mystery trilogy completes important narrative arcs. As a result, the plot has to move fast as it covers plot-points presented in the previous two books, as well as the new ones introduced here. His wife’s and daughter’s murderers, the Parker Brothers, are released from prison. Clint was able to kill one of them during the initial confrontation, so they are out for revenge with a capital R. There are other murders that seem to point to the Parker Brothers too. Clint and his deputy Susan have to endure not one, but two shootouts with the brothers that rival the ‘OK Corral’. Enjoy!
But Not Forsaken is another excellent mystery by Bourg; it’s well written and capturing from the start, which is why I love this series so much. Also, I love Clint Wolfe! This book has a bit more action and suspense than the last two, which made it even better. It’s filled with many twists and shocking discoveries.
But Not Forsaken is an excellent stand-alone book, but I feel knowing the history and Clint’s past experiences made me love it even more. However, I did notice this book didn’t lead into the next book, like the last two, so I’m not sure if there will be another. I hope there is because I’m not ready to let Clint Wolfe go yet. I want to add that I love the narrator, or should I say his voice, as much as the stories, if not more.
I rate this with 5 Boundless stars, and I highly recommend this to all mystery lovers!
I really enjoyed this story, it's the best in the series so far. It has some shocking surprises, heartbreak, loss, great action and heart pounding suspense. The twists and revaluation will keep you glued to the story and your heart will both break for Clint Wolfe but also rejoice for him too. The narration fit the bill perfectly, bringing the characters to life and keeping you engrossed in the story. This is a really entertaining story with characters you can not help but like and feel for.
What’s not to like about this book?: 1] I like crime fiction, 2] B.J. Bourg is a good story teller and accomplished writer, 3] I am familiar with humidity, mosquitoes swarming, Louisiana swamp gas, and people with names ending ..eaux. Although I thought the earlier books in the Clint Wolf series were great -> each subsequent novel is even better!
The third book in BJ Bourg’s series about Louisiana Police Chief Clint Wolf picks up nearly exactly after the events in the previous novel. One of his best officers, Susan Wilson, is under indictment for a shooting that was clearly self-defense and warranted. The district attorney, Bill Hedd, took a year to bring the case before the Grand Jury, but now she is off the squad as the wheels of justice turn slowly.
Clint can’t sleep until he gets her out of jail on bail, and then figures out why Bill Hedd is gunning for Susan. He enlists the help of his girlfriend, Chloe, who is a news reporter, trying to dig into Hedd’s background. While he’s working on that, he learns that the gang that murdered his wife and daughter, the Parker brothers, have been released on a technicality. Since he killed the youngest of the brothers on the day of his family’s mirder, they are gunning for him. He’s ready to take them on. When a bartender turns up murdered and it matches the Parker brothers modus operendi, he immediately shifts gears.
Susan’s mother turns up and tells Clint a story about seeing Hedd react negatively to a picture of Susan’s father, a former boxer who is deceased. This sends Clint to Tennessee for a conversation with her father’s best friend. Susan is reluctant to use anything he comes up with, though. She’s afraid of smearing her father’s good name. However, that could be the clue to spring an innocent man from jail.
Sigh...this series is one where you can hardly wait for the next book!! No secret that I love Clint Wolf...our love able, slightly flawed & cracked, police chief in small town, LA. Clint has been notified that the men who murdered his family, have been released and are probably heading to his town to kill him. The men arrive into town with a bang...injuring a police officer and threatening everyone who is close to the chief. Meanwhile, Detective Susan Wilson has been indicted by a grand jury for 2nd degree murder and Clint is trying to determine the motive behind the trumped up charges. Got that so far? This book is so chocked full of action that, if you’re not paying attention, you’ll have to rewind! The Parker bros...aka murderers...are not afraid of the small town police force...as a matter of fact, they stage an all-out assault on the building. After recovering from that assault, Clint is faced with the death of yet another who is close to him. Needless to say, Clint is super busy...and at the end makes a life altering decision. Always enjoy how each book wraps up but also gives a teensy glimpse into the next book...evil genius...lol. I accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Three books in and I was wondering whether it was time to take a break from the series - too many cliffhangers for starters. And then B. J. Bourg picked up the pace with a casual disregard for his characters that saw familiar bodies dropping at a rate never indicated by previous books in the series. The murderers of his wife and daughter have come to town to hunt Clint Wolf down - and they've brought some serious weaponry with them. Susan is still staring down the barrel of a prison sentence. Cliff and Chloe are working things out. 'But Not Forsaken' is a slow burn at first but rapidly ignites into a conflagration. Just as you think you've reached the end there is an explosive restart involving infidelity, double crosses and murder. One thing that became increasingly clear is that feelings do play a part in police work, bad people are immediate suspects but your friends and acquaintances not so much - it takes a lot of investigation to make you change course mid-stream. The first half of the book is probably 3 Stars, the second closer to 5 - overall it's a very solid 4 Stars, And this time there is no question of a cliffhanger.
20 years ago Jolene Hedd, DA's Bill Hedd, wife was murdered in their bedroom. Lance Duggart found guilty. I originally gave this a 4 star because I generally enjoyed the book. However on further thought I dropped it to a 3.
While I never really liked Chloe’s character, and I figured the author would eventually do something with her, what the author ended up doing with her was completely unnecessary and didn’t add anything to the story.
There was no reason she had to be a cheater. She could have been killed in exactly the same way without there being any sort of relationship between her and Reginald (was that even his name. I can’t remember for sure but I think so). The plopping of that one out of context tidbit and then trying to backfill in some character flaw in her from a one time runaway situation when she was young was very weak. Frankly it would have been MUCH more believable if it had come out she was using Clint to somehow further her career. The gymnastics the author had to use to insert this angle to the story just really didn’t fit. It didn’t fit with the plot and it didn’t fit with all the prior character development (which there wasn’t much) And again, it really did nothing to further the story.

This third book in the Clint Wolf series wraps up a story arc that woven through the first three books. It also deals with a murder that has connections to a twenty year old murder. It’s interesting and good plotting and holds the reader’s attention for the duration.
There are a number of moving pieces here that all circle each other and intersect. The men responsible for the death of Clint’s wife and daughter are released bc the DA decides there’s not enough evidence for a trial and they come looking for revenge on Clint. There’s also the twenty year old murder of the DA’s wife that pops back up on the radar as a result of his vendetta against Susan. Then there relationship issues and trust, lying and cheating become predominant themes.
It’s exciting on all fronts. It all comes together in a satisfying ending that could wrap things up but fortunately there are more books to come in this small town with these main characters.
This is the third Clint Wolf story, the second I've listened to. It picks up right after the events of the second book. Susan Wilson is now being arrested on the command of the district attorney, and Clint needs to find out why he seems to hate Susan so much.
Add to that, a family from his past comes gunning for Clint and they will take down everyone in their path to achieve the most harm and heartache for Clint.
I like the books, they are easy to listen to, and definitely have twists and turns to the plots. There is two plots in this one, the one involving Susan and the D.A. and the one with Clint's past, and both of them collide.
This has the feel of the ending of the series; a wrapping up of plot lines.
Fast-paced and well-narrated mystery. This one was interesting and had a lot of mystery to it. One of the things about this book that some will like and some won't, is that it has several mysteries that are basically consecutive, not concurrent, so it really could be two to three books instead of one. It could make the storyline a bit hard to follow at times, but not terribly so. Lots of different characters and plenty of intrigue. As always, Bennett's narration was excellent - he always does a wonderful job of voicing characters with just enough difference to keep the reader engaged without being overwhelming. ***This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.***
A mans brother was killed by a cop and he wanted revenge for it - the cops life too. There were 3 men in this group who made a massacer out of their fighting the police station where these cops were. The police station is destroyed and innocent people were killed in it. Clint the cop they were after knew it was them that did this and they wanted him dead. But they could provide enough proof yet. Lots of adventure and mayhem in this story. A lot of wifes of cops sleeping with other cops and DA's -boy what a mess trying to figure it all out. Lies and deceit all around . At the end after all those deaths and destruction some handed in their badges, they had finally had enough of being a cop.
Love BJ Bourg books! The story flows, and I enjoy reading books where the setting is Louisiana, and non-stop action. This author knows police procedurals, especially from his personal background in law enforcement. The characters and the quaint Bayou towns make it even better! A great “mystery suspense who done it.” I read this one into the wee hours of the morning because you just can’t put it down. Ive enjoyed books 1-3, and will definitely read this entire Series! Highly recommended!
A lot happens in this edition of Clint Wolf, Chief of Police for a small town in Louisiana. When his Sargent is brought up for murder for an action that saved Wolf's life, he finds himself torn between seeing her absolved and dealing with a murder investigation. On top everything else that could consume his attention individually, he learns the men who murdered his wife and daughter during a failed robbery are coming to seek revenge for Wolf killing the younger brother of the men.
What a ride! This book is even better than the previous one in the series, if that is even possible. Fast paced, I could not stop listening doing the housework with my earbuds in. So many unexpected twists and what an ending, HFN (happy for now) I was hoping for YAY Please tell me book 4 is coming soon. - 5 stars
Mr. Bennett has the perfect voice for telling the story, I could listen to for hours. I hope he does the next book too. - 5 stars
But Not Forsaken is an intense hunt. But who is hunting who? Just as one murder is solved another crime takes place, then injustice as Susan is arrested as Abigail's and Michelle's murderers are released. Murders start piling up in small-town Louisiana. For Clint, caring about his new friends and trusting them seem to be his downfall.
The ending took me by surprise. Totally unexpected!
Book 1 & 2 we’re very exciting, I had a hard time stopping reading because I wanted to find out the ending. When I find a book that captures my emotions it’s exhilarating. Book 3 had more action packed unbelievable scenes than one book should have. There were so many twist and turns it was hard to follow. Maybe if I had taken notes on the characters I could have followed the plot better. I loved the ending , but I can’t give this one a 5 star.
5+*stars I DON’T WHY ANYONE WOULD WANT TO LIVE IN THAT SMALL TOWN. THIS WAS A 3BK SERIES EACH ENDING BUT A TINY BIT OF SOMETHING NEW TO MAKE YOU WANT TO GET TO THE NEXT BOOK.LOVED HOW IT PLAYED YOU RIGHT TO THE END, BRILLIANT. THAT WAS ONE HELL-OF COMBO SMELL ROTTEN FEET & DISINFECT . . . PHEW! I REALLY HATED FOR THIS SERIES TO END I LOVED EACH BOOK. GREAT! ;D
I love reading about Louisiana and the Clint Wolf mysteries are very exciting. This one basically involved the whole town, not just the police department and Clint. The crimes involved go back decades as well as recently. The investigation runs the length of the book and you'll be shocked at the outcome!
I like Clint The main character very much. He's homey and down to earth. This book was full of twists and turns. I never figured out 'who done it' until it was explained by Clint. I won't spoil the surprise But It was a doozy. I really enjoyed this book.
'But Not Forsaken' pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let go. Full of action, thrilling scenarios, great characters, mystery and quite a bit suspense. Clint is thrown in the middle of so much, but as only Clint can, he prevails. Well written and well played out. Definitely a must add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
This book had a lot of the things I like in a book...romance, suspense, action and mystery. I loved the action in this book especially. The scene at the police station was very engrossing. I loved everything about it. I look forward to seeing where Clint Wolf goes from here. Btw...I love Achilles!
This was a twisted, intriguing, and complicated story with a lot of twists, and unbelievable conclusions. There was a lot of grief, heartbreak, but in the end, everything worked out exactly how it should be. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
Each mystery in this Clint Walker novel is almost a stand-alone story. As you move from one solved crime to the next you'll remember a vague conection to one of the previous stories. The fliw is unbroken and you actually get several stories in one master tale. The book was enjoyable but you never knew which of the important characters would be killed off next.
This story is full of action and intrigue. A small town under siege by two different forces that are killing the good people and the officers. This reader could picture the parish and bayou area as if they were there and the winding roads and dangers that it all presented. Great cast of characters.
Too many twist. Even in BF Louisiana, if criminals were after cops, every cop in the state would have been there to take them out. The crawfish boil would have been canceled and every citizen would have been walking armed in a mood to kill something. Sorry for spoilers.
This is a really good book. It had some complicated twists and turns but that makes a great mystery. So many great characters in this book. Even Clint's dog has settled into the family. The gator lives on and so do these books. I am really looking forward to the next adventure in this quiet little town.
